Wow what’s sad day
Yeah, suddenly Matthew Boyd having an off game doesn’t matter at all.
Good god. This is the worst.
Cubs legend.
Damn. Just, damn. I don’t know what to say.
The first Cubs legend I ever saw play. RIP Ryno.
Rip
RIP to a legend
I am so heartbroken.
Sad sad day. Was always my favorite player. 23 😢
Ugh… One of my all time favorites. Grew up watching him. This sucks
He is the only Cub I ever met in person as well, as he did a signing here at a West Michigan Whitecaps game years ago.
He and Grace and Dawson had posters hanging in my bedroom growing up. Ryno made me a Cubs fan, for better or worse.
Raise a glass tonight, gents, for one of the better men to have ever played the game.
This was my childhood hero. He is the reason I had to have #23 whenever I played. Whether it was LL or coed beer league softball. To me he is the original 23 of Chicago sports.
Oh no, my favorite player as a kid, so sad. Man, fuck cancer. RIP Ryno
I was really hoping his recent update wouldn’t lead directly to this news. Very unfair and very sad.
This is killing me. My brother passed away 4 years ago, when we were growing up Ryno was his favorite player. I’m sad.
As a kid from Illinois in the mid ’80s learning to love baseball, Ryne Sandberg was an important part of my life. Thanks for the memories, Ryno. Gone far too soon.
We had to put our dog down today too. Fuck this Monday in particular.
Brewers fan coming to tell you guys my heart goes out to you. That dude was awesome and a great ambassador. You/We lost a real one
Got out of the shower, picked my Sandberg jersey to throw on. Made dinner and sat down and saw the announcement on the TV. RIP Ryno
RIP from a Yankees fan.
I saw him hit a home run off of Frank Viola in 1989
I’ve never shed a tear over a celebrity or athlete dying. Until today. The man who got me into the sport and into my Cubs. I’m not sure what else to say. This, fucking hits hard man.
This will get posted often, I’m sure, but here goes….
As a Yankees fan living on the east coast in the 70s-80s, the Cubs on WGN were one of the only national broadcasts we could always count on. Ryno was a huge attraction, no matter which team you favored. His Hall of Fame magic was a big part of early baseball memories for all of us.
Condolences, long-time Cubs fans. Hopefully some day-to-day baseball can help with the grief. Have a great second half. RIP Ryno.
and with his passing it feels like my childhood has passed on as well. rest in peace Ryno, you were my favorite cub, saw you homer at Wrigley after return from retirement. no more health issues for you, hope you and santo are having a good sandlot game right now.
He called in to Danny’s cancer telethon thing to announce he was cancer-free. That wasn’t even a year ago….
Brewers fan here, but grew up watching tons of Cubs games on WGN in the 80’s and 90’s. Ryno was as likable a player that’s graced the diamond. He played the right way, he so often wore a smile, and he was one of the greats of his generation. The only thing not negative about this is that he won’t suffer anymore. RIP to an icon and a superstar. I’m truly sorry for your loss Cubs fans.
My all-time favorite Cub – – he was so steady, graceful and clutch.
This hurts as much as when Walter Payton passed.
Fuck cancer.
Mom died December, huge Cubs fan
Dad died last week, even bigger Cubs fan
My childhood hero died today.
This has not been a good year.
Reds fan here, offering deepest sympathies and condolences. There will never, ever be another Ryne Sandberg.
Heaven’s Baseball Team just picked up an incredible mid-season roster addition.
R.I.P. Eternal Respect.
Damn. Brewers fan sending condolences. I used to like watching him growing up.
Sandberg and Jordan were the 23s growing up.
As a Cardinals fan, this is sad news. The Sandberg game. One of the greatest single game performances in the history of baseball. How could you not root for a player like that, regardless of what uniform he wore? Rest in peace, Ryne.
