George Springer was hit in the head with a 96mph fastball. Was down for a bit but got up and walked off on his own along side the trainers.

  1. Bounced off his shoulder then hit his head. He says he’s ok. Was what the manager said.

  2. Come on guys, have some tact here. Getting hit in the head is one of those things that could very well be life-changing and a bunch of y’all can only talk about something that happened almost a decade ago on a different team.

  3. The pitcher Kade Strowd just got called back up from AAA a few days ago. Tough way to break back in.

  4. 96 to the noggin has to be absolutely terrifying. I caught a 85 mph heater to the shoulder in my adult league game last week and that things still a rainbow of colors.. I can’t imagine what 96 to the helmet would do/feel like.

  5. This happened to me in college and makes me flinch every time. Hope he is all good.

  6. Never what you want to see. I hope he’s ok.

    And the pitcher too honestly.

  7. I know players didn’t throw like they do now where everyone hits high 90s, but it’s amazing that our game for the majority of time players just had their old regular hats up there.

  8. First and foremost I hope he’s okay, safety-wise.

But beyond that…man. After Sammy Sosa, Jayson Heyward, and Kris Bryant, I hope when he comes back he’s the same hitter. Some guys who get hit in the head are just never good at hitting again. First concern is health and well being of course.

  9. I took EIGHTY six off that spot on the head, and I can tell you, helmets just keep you from getting killed. I had a concussion and some ear bleeding. Intermittent dizziness for over a year after. 96 makes my gut turn.

  10. Was there for this tonight.. the air was sucked right out of that ballpark

  11. So like….. honest question here. How come when this happens, pitchers don’t join the downed player, especially when it’s unintentional?

If that was me I’d be feeling so fucking bad I’d be over there immediately like “bro I am so fucking sorry, dude I’m so sorry.” and in cases where it’s as severe as this and the guy needs immediate medical attention, I’d at least be close by on a knee or something.

I get it that sometimes these guys have to do their best to not show emotion or play their hand close to their chest but I still feel like when it’s controversial to begin with that an honest gesture of respect would chill out a lot of tensions.

  12. New to baseball so maybe a dumb question. Based on the pitcher’s reaction and body language this was not intended at all. Are pitchers not allowed to leave the mound to check on a batter?

  13. This is terrifying. You can definitely see the ball just got away from the pitcher. Is George okay?

  14. Anyone in this post celebrating this over a fake made up scandal should legit be banned from reddit

  15. So Scary, glad he’s ok. Never want to see this happen, even to a jerk like Springer.

  16. Serious question: if it is a genuine accident, why do the pitchers never seem to go up to the batter and see if he’s ok? Are they not allowed? British guy asking, I’m clueless

  17. When I played as a freshman in HS, one of my teammates got hit in the head. Shattered his jaw.

  18. We can clearly see that the Orioles pitcher and other players are affected…

If it had been against the Rockies in Sunday’s game, it would have been hot, Dodgers Padres style, an Orioles batter narrowly avoiding a headshot

  19. Did the ump call this one a strike after the missed call to Ernie Clement earlier in the game?

  20. Looks like it hit the helmet right on time if you go frame by frame, incredibly close call, but also extremely painful even if it hit the helmet. Think vest and bullet.
