Phillies vs. White Sox Game Highlights (7/28/25) | MLB Highlights

Martin making his second start since coming off the injured list. First one here at home. Be fun to watch him deal with some tough lefty hitters in this Phillies lineup. Turner hitting .293 with 11 home runs. 44 runs batted in called strike three. Martin starts it out with a K. Kyle got a nice round of applause when he was introduced a moment ago. Two-2 from Martin and an awkward swing by Schwarber. Make it backto back strikeouts for Davis. Martin now Bryce Harper with Martin cruising through the first two hitters. Martin home swing and a miss. He got him. Three strikeouts from Davis Martin. He got Turner. He got Schwarber. And he got Harper. How about that start from Martin here at home. Christopher Sanchez ready to tow the rubber. He’s finished up his warm-up tosses. Nine and two on the year with an RA of 2.45. He has been one of the best pitchers in baseball and the Phillies love to lean on him. Pitched the third complete game of his career his last time out. Here’s Chase Maid. Ground ball shorts stop waiting back on it is Turner and he throws across the diamond. He’ll get a lot of ground ball outs. I want to know the count. Here’s the pitch and it’s swung on. Hition near center field. It’s deep. Back is Marsh at the track nearing the wall. He has room. And Austin Slater, a long fly ball out for the second out. And the batter will be Edgar Caro, the catcher, youngster, just 22 years of age. The one pitch swung on, popped up. Plenty of room. He’ll get there and make the catch. So, an easy start for Christopher Sanchez. Quick outs are really uh going to help Davis Martin get into the seventh inning hopefully tonight. That’d be a great outing, especially against this lineup, which is not that e easy to figure out and set down. And Martin has gone six up and six down here to school this game. Bottom of the second inning in Chicago. Miguel Vargas will start it for the White Sox. One ball, two strikes. Swinging a miss. Change up. Got him. There’s the first strike out of the game for Sanchez. Another one, two, three inning. Six up, six down for Christopher Sanchez. We’ll move on to the third. Go to the third inning. There’s no score here in Chicago. Going to bring up Max Kepler. One away. The 2-2 swung on. Line sharply to center. There’s a base hit. Good swing on that one from Max Kepler as he singles to center and he becomes the first base runner of this ball game. Bryson Scott is the batter. Martin sets above the belt and his 01 pitch. Scott swings, lines it to right. That one is sinking. It’ll fall just out of the reach of Sosa. First and second with one out. Two on, one away. One and two on Trey Turner. The pitch swing and a miss. Strike three on a hard change up. So Martin with five early strikeouts and that’ll bring up Kyle Schwarber. So three and one. It’s up and away ball four. So the bases are loaded with two outs and Bryce Harper coming up. Keeper off third off second. Schwarber off first. But a hit here would be big and get the Phillies on the board first. The two two pitch back toward the middle. Base it to center field. Kepler will score. Here comes stop. Harper’s thinking about second. The throw is high. He gets in there. It’s a two-run double. He just kept on going. He’s so aggressive running the bases again. He knows with two outs, take a little extra chance. The so White Socks defensively, I think, were really caught off guard that he was going to take second base. And it’s two nothing Phillies and Nick Castanos steps to the plate with two in scoring position. You go through these first seven batters, no problem for Davis. And then all of a sudden it becomes a little more difficult and you’ve got to locate. They have a plan. and they’ve adjusted well. One-two pitch, swing and a miss. Good cutter by Martin. So, he’s able to limit the damage somewhat. It’s two nothing Phillies. Phillies have a two nothing lead as we go to the home half of the third inning. Lennin Sosa. There’s a swing and a soft line drive. Base hit to right. First hit for the White Socks. Sosa with a leadoff single. So, in this situation, you got a left-hander against a left-hander. They just don’t hit the ball hard against them. It’s 24% hard hit lefty on lefty. League average is 40%. You can tell how dominating he is when he faces a man who swings from the left side as Montgomery does. He puts a charge into one deep to right and it’s gone. Coulson Montgomery with a two-run shot. Ties it up for the Socks. It’s the first home run allowed by Sanchez this year to a left-handed batter. Fourth home run of the year. He’s now driven in 15. Unfortunately, Coulson didn’t hear how difficult it was to square up Sanchez. And just like that, it’s a brand new game. Two- two tie through three. JT Real Muto leading off the fourth. Real Muto lines out toward right center. Diving catch. Luis Robert Jr. That ball slicing away from him the whole time. I honestly thought there’s no way he catches that. Luis Robert Jr. Woo. You know why he’s won gold in the past. Bottom four now. Miguel Vargas. Vargas turns on a slider and cracks a base hit into left. He’s aboard with one out. And that’ll bring up Luis Robert Jr. Seen Robert use the legs today already defensively. A spectacular catch out there in center. 2-1. Robert with a high-fly ball in the right field corner. Back toward the wall and this will float over the fence. Robert with a two-run shot. The White Socks have gotten to Sanchez for two two-run homers and they lead four to two. Well, it’s the first time since April 6th that Sanchez has allowed four runs in a game. The Socks have a two-run lead. Sixth inning. And I would think this is going to be it for Davis Martin, who was just brilliant here tonight. Davis Martin exits with a 4-2 lead. Seventh inning, Sanchez is still in the game. He’s trailing 4-2. This is old school. Second and third, one out. Socks lead 4-2. Two and two. Bouncer over to third. Gobble up by Kent coming home and they get Sosa. That is going to bring Rob Thompson to the mound. Christopher Sanchez is done for the night as he will depart. Phillies will go to the bullpen. 4-2 White Socks. Bottom of the eighth. Socks lead 4-2. As Seth Johnson is the new pitcher for the Phillies. So, an infield hit now a walk and all of a sudden White Socks with a opportunity here in the eighth inning. Here’s Sosa with two down. One, two, pitch. Sosa through the box and through for a hit. Around comes Vargas. He will score. And Sosa does deliver that insurance run. And a 5-2 Socks lead. And a chance for more here too with Coulson Montgomery who’s got a two-run homer. Montgomery waits, strikes one to first. Harper off the glove, can’t find it. Montgomery hustling will beat the play. Benendi will score and Sosa heads to third. Hustle gets it done for Coulson. That is an allimportant insurance run. It hits the bag. It’s a good thing it did. Socks lead 62. We go to the ninth as Grant Taylor comes on and tries to nail it down. He’s on for the 17th time, his RA of 466. And Otto Kemp needs to try to get on base. The Phillies are down four now with 2-1. Swung on and hit out in the deep right in the air and it’s caught by Tuckman on the warning track for the first out of the ninth. Kepler’s one for three. Two- two pitch. He struck him out swinging. Two down, ninth inning. And it’ll bring up Bryson Stock. They want the video for the moment. Cold strike three. He got him. Taylor pumps a 100 and the White Socks win it. A rare blemish for Christopher Sanchez tonight and the White Socks have taken game one of this threeame series by a final score of six-2.

  1. Every single MLB game is controlled by betting conglomerates. It is obvious if you just take the time to watch. Learn mathematics and probabilities, and you will understand. Wake up and change the world. Stop supporting rigged sports.

  2. That pitch to K Harper in the first was filthy. Pitch to K Realmuto(?) in the 2nd was nasty, too. Our defense was horrendous, the Sox deserved to win. We'll get 'em tomorrow.. Go, Phils!

  3. Cubs fan here. Great respect to the White Sox. You guys have been playing great since the All-Star break. Even bombed us the first game of our series. Hope you guys continue on!

  4. This is a beautiful come-from-behind win for the White Sox. Loved it! Although I'm a fan of both teams, I do hope they don't trade Luis Robert Jr to the NY Mets.
