Sheldon Rankins reveals what derailed his time with Bengals

  1. “A lot of people don’t know I was laying horizontal in a dark house for probably about a month and a half before I could really even sit up,” Ranks said, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. “You know, it was really kind of crazy.”

  2. “Rankins revealed that a combination of viral meningitis and shingles kept him sidelined and caused around 50 pounds of weight loss.”

  3. I understand its personal and private, but man it would’ve done his reputation a lot to have said this last year.

  4. I had shingles in 2021 and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Since it primarily affects older people, a lot of people don’t realize that you can get it when you’re young and it can be debilitatingly painful.

  5. Wow, that’s scary and miserable. Glad he’s doing better. I’ll be interested to see if he plays much this season, I’m not sure how you rebound quickly from losing 50lbs

  6. This was reported at the time but maybe it just didn’t register with fans how serious and debilitating viral meningitis is and how long it takes to recover.

  7. Glad he finally spoke up. All the assholes in this sub that bashed on him so hard with the implication he was faking it.

Meanwhile the dude was fighting a very scary and potential tally deadly virus. Glad he’s doing better and wish him the best

  8. Nothing really to say here except that truly sucks for him. Glad he’s healthy enough to be in somebody’s camp again

  9. Omg poor guy! I know someone whose shingles have ended up giving them long term nerve pain. I hope he’s symptom free and has no lasting effects!

Meningitis is no joke and scary AF also, just glad he’s ok.

  10. No hard feelings with him and his time with the Bengals. I hope he balls out this year.

  11. Should of just told us last year, we would have understood my man. At least I would as a nurse but I think most good human beings would. Glad he’s better though. I never had it but I know people who have and sounds like a terrible situation to deal with. I remember my ex’s aunt had it in her eyes or around her eyes or something. That sounds like the worst place to have it.
