MLB LIVE🔴 Detroit Tigers vs Arizona Diamondbacks – Jul 29, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

joined by my partner Chris Singleton. I’m John Shabi. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about ready to roll here. Towing the slab in today’s game. Brennan Hanny and Singi. It’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strikeout. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that that can keep a good tempo, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s gotten this one. Corbin Carroll, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Man aboard on the leadoff single. He was all over that one. Absolutely smoked that baseball. What a swing. Sent it out way faster than it came in. Of course, 113 off the bat. And no matter where you hit it at that speed, it’s tough to make a play on. And now let’s see if they force some action with good wheels on the bases. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. Throw save. That’s a stolen base. Swinging a ground ball towards first, but foul. No outs. Runner on second. Swinging a foul straight back. That one way inside. Carol at second with nobody out. Got it. Definitely not a parte for Catel Marte. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do is to hit her like this. Known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. So the go-ahead run in scoring position next to hit for Arizona. Heraldo Peromo. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. Hitting better than 350 this month. One ball. No strike. Man at second. Swinging a ground ball. And that’s just fouled. Let’s go Tigers. Move to second and he’s back in safely. Ground ball left side and it goes just foul. One out and a runner at second. down. That’s down and in. A slider missed out to short. Bayz throws to first in time. Time to take a look at the Diamondbacks lineup. And a key piece, a guy having a big season for them. Catel Marte. Yeah, he’s been swinging it really well over the last few weeks, man. And OPS over 900 last month. He’s put the team on his back just carrying these guys. Definitely the guy you want up there right now, especially when you need a big swing of the bat. Au Heno Suarez the next to hit takes ball one. That one finds the zone and the count even one and one. Fouled off down the right side. And now two and two. Two balls, two strikes. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Man on second, two down. Got him swinging. Oh, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. Back here in Detroit and on the hill today, Ryan Nelson. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. And you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this. He’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. Swinging a foul out of play. Hit on the ground up the middle. That’s a base hit. So, runner aboard to start the inning. Everything came together for him. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defender to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Here’s Glber Torres. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Rudder at first with no outs here. And that misses now. 2 and0. That one missed. And ball four to a board. Definitely lost the handle during that sequence. Four pitches for the walk. And that last one didn’t even threaten the zone. Catcher might want to go talk to him. First and second, no outs. Here’s Riley Green. Definitely scuffling at the dish lately under the Mendoza line so far this month. No outs. Runners at first and second. And a strike in there. 0 and2 now. fights it off. He’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Rips one to right and foul ball. Next offering upstairs. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. Swing and a line drive and that’s a base hit into right field. The throw home safe and the runner from second scores on the play and it’s one- nothing. A perfect example right there that plate discipline. It pays off. The deeper he gets into account the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. Now, here’s the Tigers cleanup hitter, Spencer Torqulson. And there’s a foul ball. It’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game, but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on. Let’s see if they can cash in. First and second here, no outs. Misses off the inside and it’s two and one. Tough spot right here. A couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. And there’s one down. Let’s take a check of the Tigers lineup. The guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Wel Perez. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Wel Perez at the plate now. That’s ball one. At this point, the clean inning is over. Got to settle in, focus on the hitter, and get out of it with minimal damage. One out. Runners at first and second. Ground ball could be two to second. That’s one. And that’s two. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the DH Adrian del Castillo Castillo Hannipe back to work. And there’s the strike. First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. That’s off the inside corner. And that’s ball one. Larry Bullard, our umpire behind the plate. Bullard’s got a pretty standard strike zone. Sometimes they’ll have you guessing a little bit, but overall well respected umpire in the league. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball two. There’s the strike. Fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires. I mean, you see them a lot. Yeah, B. They’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level. So, when you respect that, I think over time you can develop a relationship with them. One up, one down. As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubouses where they have pictures of all four umpires, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great. Runner on at first with one gone. Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. One ball, no strike. Guriel leads off first with one away. And it’s even up 21 and delivers outside. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Fired to second and that’s all they’ll get. Good that they weren’t overzealous there. Just take the shirt out. Keep the run out of scoring position. First baseman Tristan English. So up next, Tristan English. Let’s go Detroit. Runner on the go. Pitch misses. Throw to second. Sing. That was close. But Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts. Chris. Yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases. Runner on the to go again. Pitch misses and the throw’s off line. Safe at third. And another ball. Jose Herrera in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. There’s the strike. Three and one. Right through there for a strike. Careful. dives but it kicks off his glove. The tying run is in to score from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s one tying run on third. He’s looking to find a way to bring him home and he gets it done with an infield single of all things. And that’s probably not how he imagined the at bat played out, but they’ll absolutely take it. Stepping in, Jose Herrera. whips it across and that is the inning. They get a run on two hits, no errors and a man left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. All tied 1-1. Bottom of the inning at the plate. Zack McKinstry. He’s already set a new career best for stolen bases in a season. Chris There’s the strike. This to third. Suarez tosses to first. Leadoff man retired here in the second. And up next for Detroit, Dylan Dingler. Dylan Dingler. Going to one. One out. Base is empty. A little bit high. And that’s ball one. Swinging a miss at a slider. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. Line drive. McCarthy racing over to make the catch. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run. And you saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. Parker Meadows stands in now and watches strike one. Swing and a miss. And it’s on. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just is having a hard time catching up that one way outside. One and two to count. Rarely will you see a pitcher just to waste a pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. And that one missing inside a sharp slider. That one misses and the count is filled up. Popped up left side for Domo. Sizing this one up and that’ll do it. Tigers fail to make any noise. Score remains tied 1-1. Back at Kam. This is Corbin Carroll singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him track balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Ball one, no strikes. And I would say that most great defensive outfielders, it’s kind of natural. There is some work that you can do to it uh to improve your game, but ultimately you either have it or you don’t. Next pitch misses way outside. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boo, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial Gord lover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Meadows on the move and it’s caught for the owl. And as well, lots of pop in that bat. So you combine the slug with really good defense. Here’s Marte. His first at bat was a strike out. Singing. He’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Well, just look at the back of my bubblegum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys are great, man. They have the ability to look out there, but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch. Those that can really sharpen things on the outer half, those are the ones that become elite. One down, base is empty. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Righty delivers. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. got him looking and he didn’t like the call. So, he gets the call and picks up the strike out looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that, but just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. Heraldo Purdomo will hit next. Grounded out to short in his first trip. The shorts stop takes a ball. These two offenses can put up runs in a hurry. Two out. Space is empty. Next pitch in for a strike. Going to count one and two and he grounds one to the right side and that’s just foul. Though Chris through the early stages he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s a swing and a miss that retires the side and that’ll do it. So one, two, three go to Diamondbacks. Still tied 1-1. Set for the bottom of the third. Here’s the shorts stop at the plate. Javier Bayz Bayz measures 6 feet even 190 lbs and he was born in Puerto Rico. Out to center. McCarthy settles under it. He’s got it. One down. Now batting designated hitter Colt Keith. Back to the top of the Detroit order. Next to the plate is the Tigers DH. Colt Keith one for one. He let off the bottom of the first with a single and that’s in the dirt. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. Now the throw to first on the run. It’s there and that’s a great play. Now batting second baseman Glab Torres. Glabber Torres up to the plate. He reached out to walk his first time. Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers. But this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Pitch misses inside. Ball one. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. And that one pulled foul. Singi, one of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So, when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you And he’s got it in right field for the third out. So, that’ll do it. We played three full innings and we’re tied at one. And we’re back. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Auo Suarez. Come on, you can do it. Up and in ball one. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. That one fouled off. One of the things that Jim Leland used to say when I was broadcasting with the Marlins, the longer a plate appearance goes for a batter, the more likely it is that something good will happen for the hitter. Yeah. And I figured you would get Kay into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. That was a really nice pitch call for that putaway slider right there. You look at the sequence in that at bat and he hadn’t thrown it yet. So just makes it really tough to recognize and fight off with two strikes. I’m sure it looked like a fast ball all the way until it wasn’t. And next is the Diamondbacks DH. Adrien Del Castillo delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. And a foul ball. Make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. And here comes the Tigers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Brennan Hannify out of the game. And that’s an excellent job from the reliever in the starting role today. Gave him some length. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching. New pitcher for the Tigers, Kaider Montero. and he’s been hit pretty hard at times this year. So, he’s looking for better right now. Giving up more than a hit per any. And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. one for one with a single so far. Fast for a strike. ball swing and a miss and it’s one and two. I think he was sitting off speed there. Started after the one-two pitch. Appeal to first and he went around. Not an easy call there, but that puts an end to the inning. Three up, three down for him there. We’re midway in the fourth. All tied 1-1. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Down the left fielder, Riley Green. Riley Green. There’s a strike. Next offering is fouled back. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. That one just misses. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Line drive and foul ball. Swing and a miss and he struck him out. One away. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Spencer Torqulson. So now it’s the four-hole hitter Spencer Torqulson popped out and foul ground first time through. There’s the strike. Next offering is fouled back. All tied up. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. And a curve is down and in. Bows it off. Still one and two. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Very dominant with that fast ball inside. Hitters going to be conscious of that. Now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Wel Perez up now for the Tigers. 0 for one so far. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Oh, one strike. Come on. Let’s go. Two down. Nobody on swings and misses. and he strikes out the side here in the fourth. Down in order go the Tigers. Score remains deadlocked at one. Back here in Detroit now at the play, Jake McCarthy. If there’s nobody on in front of him, you know, a single for him many times is a double. This guy is off to the races, ready to steal a bag when he’s on first base. swing and a base hit. And they had their first base runner since the second inning. Tristan English stands in now for the Diamondbacks. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. McCarthy aboard here at first with nobody out. Monttero throws over and he’s back in on a dive. swings through that one for strike one. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Nobody out. Runner of first with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Spoils the two strike pitch and he’ll see another. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Slider got him for strike three. That’s a really great job of sequencing. Pitch before good fast through the zone and as a hitter, you got to be ready to get on that with two strikes. He breaks it off. Good slider to the outside corner of the plate. Tell you what, that was a really good pitch. Now the D-Max catcher, Jose Herrera, grounded out his first time up just off the inside edge. Man at first, one away. Check on the runner. He’s safe. grounded to third. Could be two over to Torres. And that’s two. One hit in the inning, but nothing more than that. Last half of the fifth coming up. All tied 1-1. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the third base, Zack McKinstry. Zack McKinstry. Nelson back to work. Just missed. One ball. No strike. That’s out the corner. And now three and one. This game has been so tight. Feels like the next team to score will win it. Tigers. Tap foul at the plate. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Now batting catcher Dylan. Now here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler. He’s 0 for one. that misses and it’s one and0. Maybe losing command a little bit after the walk. Next pitch, not even close. just missed. Way to lay off that pitch down on the ground is second. Might be two over to Pertomo. That’s one. How about that double play? They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaders. They make tough plays look simple. Parker Meadows getting ready to hit. Flat out his first time at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Next offering is fouled back. Ground ball right side. Marte throws to first in time. Out number three. Tigers are shut down there. We played five full. Tied at one aside. Top of the sixth inning. Now it’s the right fielder Corbin Carroll. Leading off for Arizona. Right fielder Corbin Carroll. And that misses. And that is ball one. Activity in the bullpen for Detroit. Tyler Holton getting loose for AJ Hinch. Canley also getting ready. The one swing at a highf fly ball. Well struck. That one back there. And that is gone. He leaves the yard to right and they jump out front. It’s 2-1. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Let’s break out the statcast numbers. And Singy, it tells us this home run was projected at more than 450 ft. Yeah. And not many players can hit home runs as far as this one. That’s a special feeling. And I’m sure he was giggling a little bit as he was jogging around the bases. That was one heck of a swing he put on the baseball. Marte in the box again takes the strike. You just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. Ball one there. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. The next pitch miss is two and one. Swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Now batting short stop. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Heraldo Peromo. First pitch misses. Monttero, a righty that throws with power. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a slur, a change up, and he works in a sinker. Check swing called strike. Foul ball there. That misses and the count is two and two. Fast ball is outside. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Marte gets his lead at first with nobody out. tried to check his swing there. Appeal to third. No swing. Now batting. First and second. No. Here’s the cleanup hitter for the Diamondbacks. Auheno Suarez. 0 for two in this one. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. He’s looking for a strike out or a ball on the ground for a double play to sort of calm this situation down. A little out front there as he swings through it. Two really good backto- back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. Now it’s belted deep to left. Way out of here. Home run. A towering shot. It’s their second home run of the inning and they tack on three. It’s 51. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over, stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Kaidder Monttero won’t go any further. And as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now pitching Troy Melton gets handed the rock out of the pen. He’s making his second appearance of the season. Next is the designated hitter, Adrien Del Castillo. And that’s in for a strike 0 and one. Next offering is outside. in the dirt. Two and two. Swings, threw it in. That’s a strike out. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. Here’s Guriel. One for two. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Next offering is fouled back. hit on the ground to short dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and he reaches safely. Trey Sweeney coming into the game now as the injury replacement. Now playing shortstop number 27 at first. Now here is Jake McCarthy. missed with a change up. One and0 in the air center field and there are two down. now batting the first baseman Tristan English. So, a man aboard and now the first baseman Tristan English one squirts away a little bit. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. Two outs and one at scoring position. The one two knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 51. Back at Kame Park leading off Trey Sweeney. out Trey Sweeney. Well, a big lead like this is comfortable many times, but not when these two teams are matching up. You got to continue to keep your head down, play catch with that catcher, and just try to move through this lineup. This is a very important inning here. After scoring all those runs, you want your pitcher to come out and just mow them down. The offense has worked hard. It’s shut down inning time. Laser could be troubled. around first and hustling for second. And he starts the bottom of the six with a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. Colt Heath up now for the Tigers. singled and scored back in the first. He’s one for two. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Come on, let’s go. Man at second one in the dirt. And now the count one and two after the swing and the miss. Sweeney stands at second with no outs. And that’s outside. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming in the air left field down the line and that will drop foul. He’s mixing his pitches really well. Late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. I think if he does, he’ll get the swing and miss in the dirt. Blocked. Eighth pitch of the bat coming up in there. Got him looking and that one split the plate. frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter. And I’m sure that’s gonna sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Pitch misses outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Number 43 up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. Woodford the right-hander loosening up as well. One out and a runner at second here in the bottom of the six. Tigers. Next pitch is outside. That’s to third. Suarez jumps, throws on the money. Nice play. Oh, he’s doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air. Lets the defense work behind it with another ground ball. Good execution. Riley Green up now for the Tigers. And the curve is down and in. And that one hammered. That’s back there. And gone out to the deepest part of the field. And they’re chipping away. It’s 53. That swing just injected more drama into this one. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. Two outs. Space is empty. Here comes Torque to the plate. Bottom of the zone and a cold stride and foul ball. Two outs. One and two. Good job to fight that one off. Next pitch way upstairs. swing and a miss. Struck him out. Now five strikeouts for him on the mound, but two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. It’s now a 53 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Tommy Canley hasn’t pitched in the last three days. Jose Herrera stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Jose Herrera. And a pitch. That’s off the mark. And that’s ball one. fouled off. He was late. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. One ball and a swing and a miss. Down on strikes, one out. Up next for the Diamond Back right. Here’s the Diamondback’s leadoff hitter, Corbin Carroll. He had a big swing back in the six. The solo shot that figures into this game in a pretty big way right now. Yeah, that was a big swing of the bat and he’s going to be looking for more. Trying to add on to this lead right here. And it’s fouled away. Next offering is fouled back. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. Chopper right side and it goes just fouled. The 02 smoked on the ground to second over to first and two away to start the seven. Now batting second baseman Catel Marte. Catel Marte up to the plate. One for three. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One and0. That’s a ball. fought off foul. Two down. Nobody on two low and it’s ball three. in one. And that drops in for a strike. Reo strike. Hard hit left side. Throw on to Torlson and Arizona is set down. One, two, three. Diamondbacks down quickly. Yet it remains 53. Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. John Curtis. John Curtis. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. Leading off, Wel Perez up now for the Tigers. The parade just missed one ball. No straight. Oh, two and0. just missed. Three in one in for a strike. Now it’s three and two. Now, just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. Fouled off and they’ll do it again upstairs. And that is ball four. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Almost a coin flip for the umpire in that call, but most umpires just don’t want to give pitchers a break up in the zone like that. Now the third baseman, Zack McKinstry. He’s over one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But, you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Tying run at the plate and a big swing and a miss. One and two. the tying run at the plate and a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. Typically that high fast ball if it’s close to the top of the strike zone, a hitter he’s prepared for it can get to it. But that one just had that little jump at the end which indicates there’s a good spin rate on it and it didn’t decrease in velocity as that hitter’s internal clock would expect it to. And that’s why you see the swing and miss. And now Dylan Dingler. Yeah, that’s fouled off with the tying run at the plate here. The bottom of the seventh. stays alive. on the outside corner. Got him looking. Well, big strike out right there. And maybe a little controversial with the call. I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound. No question about it. It’s not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that. And I’m sure there’s some chirping going on from the dugout making it clear that wasn’t his best call behind the play today. Now the Diamondbacks manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. John Curtis departs two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching for so out of the pen for the Diamondbacks number 43. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. And next to hit for Detroit, Parker Meadows edge of the zone for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Swing and a miss as he was out front. going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball outside low. It’s a ball in two strikes. Perez off of first with two away. Swings through it for the K. Chase the fast up the ladder for strike three. Nice work from the snake pen there. Eighth inn. And coming up, it’s the Diamondbacks five and the Tigers three. Now pitching. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Chase Lee. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So the defense should be active. Peraldo Pomo now at the plate. Off the mark there. Ball one. One and0. A short stop. Takes a ball and another ball. Was good pitch there. really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Next offering is in for a strike. Now fly ball to right center. Meadows sizes this one up, reaching for it and brings it in. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Suarez at the plate and takes high there. Oh, let’s do it. Up the middle. Torres over to first and there are two outs. So, next is the designated hitter for the Dbacks, Adrien Del Castillo. 0 for three in this one. Inside. Just missed. Two down. Nobody on and we’re in the top of the eighth. Runner at first with two away. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. And that drops in for a strike. Come on, let’s go. Griel gets a piece. struck him out swinging. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Back here in Detroit. Now it’s the shortstop. Trey Sweeney. Trey Sweeney. and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Right through there for a strike. Good eye right there. Too close for me partner to take that O2 fast ball, but for whatever reasons he let it go by. He’s still in the at bat. I don’t think he’ll let the next one go. Off the mark there. And the count now even up. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Goes down looking. Now it’s the DH Tigers designated hitter Colt Keith rolled softly but that goes foul. One down. Base is empty and a foul ball. And that’s outside. Swing and a ball lifted left field. Guriel handles the chance and there’s two away. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He’s saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Number 43 won’t go any further tonight. And as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. A new arm into the game, the righty Anthony Dclifan. And if you dig into his walk rate, his numbers are really impressive. He’s really filled up the strike zone this season. So these batters better be ready to swing the bats. Here’s Glamour Torres. MVP swinging a foul straight back. Two outs on the corner for a strike. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count and foul ball. The D-Max holding on to a two-run lead here. bottom half of the eighth inning. Rips one to left. That’s a base hit. Now that here’s the left fielder, Riley Green. He’s already homered here in this one. That one outside. That’s ball one. Tying run at the plate. Bounding ball here. Rolls. Foul. That one off the bad part of the bat. Just a lazy fly ball. And that’ll fall for a base hit. And now first and second with two outs. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Making a move at second base coming in as a pinch runner. Matt Beerling. Matt Being. Spencer Torqulson up now for the Tigers. Clips the corner. It’s 0 and one. 0 and one. Two on, two outs. Swings and misses. Go and two. Man, I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear down. Those last two pitches were well executed. Here’s the O2. Activity in the Arizona bullpen. Kevin Ginkle up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. Woodford warming up as well. The other way. He’s got it. And that’ll end the inning. Tigers strand a pair. They’re still down 53. Now pitching. Here comes the closer here in the ninth, Will V. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the park. Not an easy guy to take deep. Jamai Jones comes on defensively now as he takes over as the new second baseman. number Jake McCarthy stands in now for the Diamondbacks and First Offering is fouled off. Two of the most potent offenses in the game. Squaring off the one and there’s a ball. That one misses and it’s two and one. And that’s in for a strike foul ball left side. He’ll see another outside corner. Got him looking. Tremendous job of bringing that ball back over the plate. He gets just enough of it to get the call. And tell you what, as a hitter, it starts out of the zone. It looks really far away and forth to catch the outside corner. You just have to tip your cap to the pitcher. English. The next to hit takes outside. Base is empty, one away. You’re in the top of the ninth. Best a six-foot righty. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a sinker, and he works in a change up. One down, base is empty. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. fights that one away. Still one and two. Battling here as he fouls it away. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. set down on strikes. Fast ball at the letters frozen for strike three. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. He’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. And first off is fouled off. in the air pretty deep out to center field. Meadows sizing this one up. He’s got it and that’ll end the inning. Offense held in check there. 56 and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Diamondbacks five and the Tigers three. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Kevin Ginkle. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. Number 37, Kevin Gle, Wel Perez now for the Tigers. Like fielder Wel Perez. That one finds the zone. Strike one. One strike. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Strike two. One attempt. And that one upstairs two. Swing and a high-fly ball to left. Guriel handles the chance. Now batting third baseman, Zack, let’s two outs away. Here’s the third baseman, Zack McKinstre. Close but called a ball and it’s one and0. The Tigers trailing by two here in the last half of inning number nine. The next offering misses and that’s ball two. in there at the knees. That one not close. And that’s ball three. Popped in the air. left field. Guriel handles the chance. That’s out number two. Now batting the catcher Dylan. So it’s their last chance in this one. Dylan Dingler up now for the Tigers. Known for his rocket arm behind the plate. In there for a strike at the top of the zone. They’re down to their final strike. Well, so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. The Tigers down to their final strike and a swing and a miss. And that is the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching, and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. A 53 final score in this one for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show. I’m John Shami saying so long.
