I saw this picture in an auction this weekend. Never heard of Bob wearing the ‘C’ but here it is. Anyone have any info on this?

  4. This has got to be a preseason game, cant even find a headline or article showing Probert as wearing the C.

    Edit: possibly September 20th 1990 preseason game in Pittsburgh.

  5. I was still pretty young so my memory may not be the best on this, but I would bet it is from the 87-88 season. The Wings were really good that year, we took the Norris division, but Yzerman got injured pretty late in the season. Stevie ended up coming back for the tail end of the playoffs, but only managed to get into 3 games and was still not himself.

    Probert was an absolute beast that season. He set career highs with 29 goals and 62 points, and led the team to the conference finals where we lost to eventual champs Edmonton. Probie had 8 goals and 21 points in 16 playoff games.

  6. Either a preseason game, or maybe sometime in 1987-88, when Yzerman was out with his knee injury?

    EDIT: This doesn’t make sense, either, as Probert wasn’t even an Alternate Captain until the 1990-91 season.

  7. This must be a preseason game. The only regular season game against the Penguins that Bob Probert played in that Yzerman was out was on Nov. 13, 1993; however, that is Bob Errey wearing number 12 and the A for the Penguins and he wasn’t on the team for the 93-94 season.

  8. I remember him wearing the A for a short bit but I can’t think of a reason why he would have the captain C on his sweater.

    September 25, 1992. Red Wings 5, Penguins 1.

    The Penguin alternate captain wearing #12 is Bob Errey, who was Alternate captain from 1990-1993.

    Probert was only an alternate captain for the Red Wings from 1990-1994, so it had to be during that span.

    The goaltender is almost certainly Chris Osgood, Still wearing his Medicine Hat goalie pads. (He turned pro in 1992)
