MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 29, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Chris Singleton with you. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. Hello and welcome. Thanks for joining us. An ALO matchup on the show. It’s the Seattle Mariners going up against the Athletics. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Just about set to go and on the mound now, Jeffrey Springs. What do we have on him? Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trusted, and really go after hitters, not nibble. trusted his stuff can have late life and miss barrels of bats. Now it’s the shortstop JP Crawford. Hit hard on the ground is short and an easy out to start the game. And now we check out the Mariners lineup. It features one of the sports true superstars, Cal Raleigh and Boo. He’s a big time run producer for these guys, man. Leading the team in homers, runs batted in, doing damage on the regular, man. Making opposing pitchers just sweat out there. It’s kind of fun to watch. Get ready for a show when he steps into the box. Julio Rodriguez batting with one down, takes the strike. That’s a ball. Tried to attack with the sweeper. And that’s off the inside edge. Two and one. Tap foul at the plate. That’s down and in. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Foul ball and it remains a full count. The wind to the pitch. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. One down. Base is empty. And that’s ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. A great back and forth in that at bat. He had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Cal Raleigh the next to hit takes ball one. If it were an average catcher behind the plate, I’d say take second base, but this isn’t a catcher you want to run on. His quick release is unreal, man. at first. One away. Step off throw to first. Rodriguez back in on a dive. Next offering is in for a strike. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. Pulled the string of the change up. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way. But that time a little anxious. Here’s Josh Naylor. And that misses and it’s one and0. swing and a miss as he was late. I think he was sitting off speed there. The one-1 is fouled off. The one two out to center. Butler under it. And that is that. Mariners leave one and the A’s will get their first opportunity in a scoreless ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. And we’re back. And on the hill in this one, Logan Gilbert. Chris, how about a scouting report? Well, he’s putting together a really nice season on the mound. Erra in the low threes. very respectable when you consider guys are looking to do damage. They’re not trying to just walk and hit singles. They’re trying to hit homers and draw walks and score runs. So, when you have a guy that can limit the other team from scoring more than a few runs, that’s really tough to beat game in and game out. Carlos Cortez, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Next pitch is downstairs. Swung on. Belted way back there. And that one’s gone. So he blasts one out the other way. His first homer of the year. And the A’s jump in front. It’s one- nothing. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. It’s like he’s playing whiffle ball up there. And that’s typically not the easiest way to hit a home run. To the slight opposite field into the gap, man. Making it look easy, that’s for sure. Here’s Luis Orias. Came into the game on defense. So, his first trips to the plate here. And that drops in for a strike. No balls, one strike. That misses and that’s ball one. With the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered, he’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. Comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. One and two is the count. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. The next pitch misses. And now two balls and two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. That’s a pretty nasty pitch right there. I’d call it a power curveball in the 80s. It’s got so much spin on it and you really don’t have a lot of time to sit back and watch what it’s going to do before you have to commit. It was a good one for the swinging strikeout. One out. Base is empty. tried to check his swing there. Now it appealed to first and yes, he offered at it. 0 and2 now. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Foul ball still 0 and two. fouled off and they’ll do it again. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Slice to right and foul ball. Swanging a popup. Crawford right there to make the grab. And there’s two away. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. This has been a good productive lineup so far this year. Currently ranking among the better teams in terms of total hits and runs per game. Well, you know, this lineup sees it as very important to put the ball in play. Boo. I mean, this is an age where strikeouts are up so high and guys are swinging and missing going for the fences. But if you can increase that contact rate, you can be a dangerous club. You get more guys on base, then all of a sudden when that big swing comes through, you’re plating more runs. So, we’ll see if this pitcher can get some soft contact, let the defense work behind it. Shay Langalers stands in now and watches strike one. Slapped foul. Two down. Do on. Good job to fight that one off. Just misses with that one. Way outside. Two and two. Two outs. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Pitch misses. And now it’s three and two. Wow. This guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. Knocks that one away. and we’ll do it again. Gets a piece and stays alive. Tough start for him so far. Already at 30 pitches here in the first and that one off the inside edge. He walked him. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. It’s been a little bit of a shaky inning, but he’s still in a good spot to get out of this thing without giving up any more runs. He’s just got to turn the page and go after this next guy. And now Tyler Soderstroke swinging a foul straight back. Oh squirts away a little bit. One ball, one strike. Here’s a 1-1 foul ball. That’s a ball. Move to first. Legal dives back in safely. Here’s the pitch. Runner goes. Ball outside. Throw to second. Out there. And that ends the inning. The A’s strike first. It’s now one- nothing. You’re dialed into the show. Second inning set to go. And stepping in for the Mariners, Randy Arosena. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. Springs back to work. Little chopper rolls foul. A Rosarena 30 years old now and he was born in Cuba. Here’s the O2. Fouls it back with two strikes. The O2 stays alive. Stuck him out looking with the off speed stuff. I don’t know about you, Chris, but that felt like a weird at bat right there. Didn’t give much to hit until the final pitch and he still got the backwards K. Yeah, not a single pitch was actually inside the strike zone, but he was being very aggressive in the box and fell behind in the count. Then they finally do challenge him and he couldn’t get the bat off his shoulder. Kind of a strange strikeout for sure, Bo. And now here is Jorge Palano. Slider misses outside. Next offering is fouled back. One down. Base is empty. Right through there for a strike. And that’s way high. And that’s ball two in the air. right field. Cortez coming on, makes the grab on the run and there are two down. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Dominic Panzone now at the plate as he swings through strike. in there at the knees and that’s strike two. Two out. Base is empty. That missed by going to count one and two inside. Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. And that’s downstairs. And now three and two. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. And one, two, three go to Mariners and it remains one- nothing. Bottom of the second and here’s the first baseman, Tyler Soderstroke. He set a new careerh high in home runs this year and Sigy, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now. That’s off the mark. Ball one. That’s to third. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. He beats the throw and he reaches safely. Now the A’s designated hitter, Jacob Wilson. It’s been a tough stretch for him at the plate under the Mendoza line so far this month. Little bit low. That missed. That’s the ball. Sodstrom on at first. Nobody out. Keep it going. And another ball. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. And a foul ball makes the count two and one. here. This one in the air right field. Kenzone coming on. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out and there’s one down. That is seven. Lawrence Butler. Next up for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. swings and he pops it up near the pitcher mouth. Naylor makes the grab. Two down. That is third base. Gio Urella. Gioella steps in. And first offering is fouled off. Lifted in the air down the left side. A Rosarena puts it away and that will end the inning. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. We play two full. It’s the A’s one and the Mariners nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. On to the third inning. And now for Seattle, Ben Williamson on the ground to third. Ursella sends it to first and one away in the top of the third. Second base Cole Young. And now the rookie second baseman Cole Young. Ball. No, that’s down ball. just missed. Oh, that missed on the ground right side. Urias over to first and a couple of quick outs. Now batting short stop JP Crawford and the batter will be the shorts stop JP Crawford grounded out his first time up. That’s off the inside corner. One and0. And that is out of play. Got it. And the Mariners set down one, two, three. So they go quietly there. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the A’s one and the Mariners nothing. And we’re back. Here’s the shortstop at the play. Max Schum. breaking ball through there for a strike. You know, these A’s doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. and ball one. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Just off the outside part of the plate. Well, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike if he swings or not. And that’s a base hit. So a man on base to start the inning. Everything came together for him. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Now, here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Carlos Cortez. He’s already homerred in this game. There’s the strike. 01. Schuman gets his lead at first with nobody out. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And now it’s even one and one. Now move to first. And he’s back safely. Let’s keep it going. The 1-1 is fouled off. And down on strikes and one gone. Oh man, just locked him up with that slider even though it caught a lot of the zone. And I think that tells you all you need to know about what he was looking for in the box. And it clearly was not that pitch. Yeah, that’s fouled off. That one missed. Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. That’s worth the price of admission. his second homer this series and they add to the lead. It’s three nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. Clearly some frustration out there on the mound right now. I mean that ball was so close to going foul. Would have been a long strike, but instead batter gets rewarded. did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence. And here is Brent Rooker. And that’s in there for strike one. Well, Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. One down, base is empty. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Swing and a miss. Curve ball on the dirt out on the drop. Third strike. Two gone. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. Langelers in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Swaying and a miss. No balls, two strikes. No balls, two strikes. Ground ball Naylor. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. The A’s with a two-run blast. It’s now three nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show as we go to the top of the fourth. And stepping in for the Mariners, Julio Rodriguez. That pitch gets the corner and that is strike one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there and have a real quick inning. Get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. The one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Next offering is fouled back and they’ll do it again. The wind, the kick, and the one-two. Got him looking as the fast ball runs back over the inside corner. Well, definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. And now the big time power threat, Cal Raleigh. And first off is fouled off. The A’s leading by three. Top half of inning number four. And that one is downstairs and the count is one and one. Next offering is outside. That one fouled off. Two and two. One down. Base is empty. And that’s outside. B another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Really tight bite on that slider and just couldn’t get the barrel to it out front. You’ve got to try to pull those hands tight to the body to get it through. And I’m thinking he probably wanted that pitch to end up even more inside to keep it out of the danger zone. But it had enough late break and deception to get the job done. And a foul ball. Two down. Nobody on in the air left field. Rooker on the move makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Bottom of the fourth and now it’s going to be Tyler Sodro. Tyler, first pitch misses. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. And that one misses up and in. Now two and0. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Williamson makes the catch and there’s one gone. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. So now the DH spot, Jacob Wilson flyed to right his first time. Ball one there. Bases empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. had a foul ball. There’s a 1-1. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Puts it away for the out. Now, center fielder Lawrence Butler. Two out. Space is empty. Next up for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. First time up was a pop out. And takes low for ball one. One and0. Just missed. That’s the ball. That one finds the zone and it’s two and one. Cold night like tonight, last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bat. Tell you what, you’re going to be trying to keep tosses to first. That’s the third out. Inning over. A’s go quickly and quietly there, but they’re on top by a count of three to nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the fifth now. The left fielder Randy or Rosarena. Springs back to work. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center. And that one hops the wall. Safe at second with a leadoff double. Well, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Now Jorge Palano. And that’s outside. Well, these Mariners from what we’ve seen, I think it’s fair to wonder if they’ve been too patient at the plate. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count, and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense. And there’s a foul ball. Swinging a ground ball and it stays fair. A Rosaredo flies around third. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single. It’s 3-1. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. Caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. And now the right fielder Dominic Panzone 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time and that hit him. I don’t care what some players might say. Nobody likes getting hit by a pitch unless you’re in an 02 count and there’s a knuckle baller out there on the mound. Rolled to short. Possible two ball off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. Well, an aggressive slide at second base, but it was legal. I like it because you’re trying to break up the double play and it looked like the slide impacted the throw a little bit. Nice job by the base runner. Now it’s the second baseman Cole Young. Fast ball is outside. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Brothers at the corners. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. That one finds the zone and it’s one and one on the ground down the line and it’s fouled. Swing now. An appeal to third. No swing. Just held it back there. Palano on third. Williamson at first. One gone. Battling here as he fouls it away. Lefty out of the stretch. Runners at first and third. Misses. It’s a strike out. That was a tough slider right there. He couldn’t get a piece of it just to try to keep the at bat alive. hitters will tell you that slider when a guy’s able to really tunnel the pitch where it looks like a fast ball and then late has really good bite. So tough to lay off of because you’ve made the decision you don’t want to get beat by a fast ball and then you swing and you miss you go back to the dugout shaking your head. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Corners are occupied with two down. Swing and this one’s bounced on the ground. They take the force out. They limit the damage here. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth now. The third baseman, Gio Urchella. Urchella in his eighth season, 33 years old, and he’s a native of Colombia. And that drops in for a strike. The next offering misses and that is ball one. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Trent Thornton up and loosening in the pen. Legina also getting ready. Hit in the air left field. A Rosena. He’s there. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Manager out of the dugout now. And it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Logan Gilbert won’t go any further and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. They hand the ball over to a new arm, Trent Thornton. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Matt Schuman up next for the A’s. Singled and scored his first time. And that one fouled off. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Carlos Cortez will hit next. He’s already homerred here in this one. That misses the zone. Ball one. One ball. No strikes. And that one is in for a strike. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five. Next offering misses and it’s two and one. Yeah, there’s a ball. draws the walk there. Take your base. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass. Next up for the A’s, Luis Rias. There’s the strike. Swinging a foul straight back. to third. And that is that. The A’s strand one, but they still lead it 3-1. Top of the sixth inning. Now the number two hitter, Julio Rodriguez. And there’s the strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Next, Auburn in there for a strike. And that is strike two. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. That one just misses. Out to short. Schuman sends it across to first. Rodriguez out on the play. Now catcher Cal Raleigh digs in now who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. just that struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. Just that’s the ball. Next offering is in for a strike. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. That one ripped left field. Out of here. He jacks that one out to left. Home run number 40 on the year. It’s 3-2. Oh, that one won’t stay below the radar. That made a lot of noise. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. Base is empty, one away. Josh Naylor up next for the Mariners. And the first pitch misses for ball one. There’s the swinging a miss. Yeah, I don’t think anyone’s got good numbers swinging at pitches in that location. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Ben Bowden up and throwing. Alvarado getting loose as well. One down, base is empty. Outside low. Two and one. Two balls, one strike. And that one fouled off. Still two and two after the foul ball. outside with a breaking ball. A’s leading by a run. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Pitch count’s getting up there now. And not saying that’s the reason for this walk, but this is the point in the game when every sign of wavering starts to get everyone’s attention. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Jeffrey Springs gives way. Gave him a good effort as he exits with a lead. And we’ll have a new pitcher when we come back. So, a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Justin Sterner. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs. Runner on at first with one gone. Here’s the left fielder Randy Roserena. One for two. Popped up left side. Er, he’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting Jorge Palanco. Now at the plate, Jorge Palanco. And that’s off the inside edge. ball well with a tying run on at first and we’re the top half of the six and that’s in for a strike. Two outs. Tap foul at the plate. right side and that chance handled to second pulls him off the bag. Well, things that lead to big innings other than hits or home runs are of course walks and errors, free base runners, and they’ve been gifted with both so far this inning. And that will make any manager in the dugout just stew a little bit. And I’m sure he is right now. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Dominic can zone. So with second and third occupied, they go for the intentional walk. Bases now loaded. And there’s a force at every base. Two outs. Bases full. Ben Williamson getting ready to hit. Full for two in this one. And that one fouled off. Swings and misses. 0 and2 and two. Naylor the runner at third. Palano at second. Kenzone at first. Two out of the inning. That one missing inside. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in an 02 count. Just tried to overthrow that pitch. Swinging a highf fly ball deep left field back there. Drops in for a hit. Couldn’t run it down. One runs in. Three runs are in. And they take a two-run lead. Well, this one started with a bad jump, a bad read off of the bat. He ends up having to try to leap out of desperation. Can’t come down with it and it turned into extra bases. Cole Young the next to hit and first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Rudder at second. Two down. 0 and two now in the air out to center. tracks it down for the out and that’s the third out. But four score in the inning, three of them on this bases clearing double. It’s now a 53 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Well, we go bottom six. And now Brent Rooker. And that one ripped into right and foul ball. ball that’s outside. And that’s off the outside edge. And that’s ball two. Activity in the bullpen. Matt Brash, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Bizardo warming up as well. up the middle and he knocks it down. Gets it there in time though. And that’s out number one on a tough play. Now that the catcher Langers Shay Langalers up next for the A’s, he’s 0 for one. check swing and he went. And that’s strike one. 0 and one. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the six. Next offering is fouled back. swings and misses. Struck him out. So, two down now. And here is Tyler Soder Stroke. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Gets the slider in there for a strike. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Two down. Nobody on. Good eye right there. Jacob Wilson. Next to bat for the A’s. 3-2 now. Fights it off. You’ll see another ripped to short in plenty of time to first. The A’s go quietly and the A’s are gone in order. They’re still down 53. number 49 taking over on the mound. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. off man JP Crawford 0 for three with two ground outs and a strike out baby. That one outside. One and0. One and0. Right through there for a strike. Yeah. Tap to first. Sodro takes it himself. One up, one down. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. And now the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. First pitch misses. And fires in a fast ball at 95. There’s the strike. 95 of that one. The one two keeps the bat going with a foul ball. swings here and drives one well left field way back and you can forget it. He sends it out of here. That’s his fourth home run of the series and they add to their lead. It’s 63. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I could feel that swing from the boot. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside. Fast ball. So direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. And up next for Seattle, Cal Raleigh. First pitch and he just misses. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in the top half of inning number seven. Next offering is fouled back and now two and one after that missed inside. That one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Foul ball. Another two- two upcoming. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. Five foul balls in this at bat so far. And these two are going headto head. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. that one 95 to finish him off. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Two down, base is empty. And now it’s the cleanup hitter for the Mariners. Josh Naylor missing inside. And that is strikes. That one ripped. Gone. That one felt good. It’s their second home run of the inning. And they tack one on the board. It’s 73. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. And they’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. That one was a hanger and pitchers typically don’t get away with making a mistake like that. And right there, he made him pay. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Number 49 won’t go any further tonight. And as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. A new pitcher in the game, Jacob Lopez. Big swing and miss stuff right here. Boo. Averaging more than one strike out per inning this season. So far, he’s been pretty electric. Next to hit, Randy Roserena. out of line out towards center. Butler hauls it in to end the inning. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 73. Back after this on the show. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh, Jackson Kowar. And he’s got a nice lead to work with. So he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. So now here’s the DH Jacob Wilson. The Athletics in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. Just missed. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. Big bat right here. He did the team thing. Took until he got a strike. Now he’s got to go to work. Shorten up that swing a little bit. Do whatever it takes to get on base. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And it’s two and one. There’s a strike. Foul tip. Oh, that got our umpire. And it looks like it got him upstairs. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the bat alive. This one smoked could be trouble around first and hustling for second. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Got to love the resiliency he showed in that at bat. Battling with two strikes. Good pitch hard and inside, but he showed off some quick hands. Got the barrel to it and was able to yank it into the outfield. So up next, Lawrence Butler. That one missed. Man at second. ball. Boo. He never moved because he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Next offering misses down and away and a 3-1 on the way. Swinging a foul straight back. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here. The bottom of the seventh. tapped out in front of the plate. Throws to first in time and one away in the bottom of the seventh. Third base Gio Urella. Gioella to the plate. I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone here. Pitchers looking for a strikeout or a ground ball, hoping to keep that runner at third. first offering and it just misses. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. The one in the dirt. Well done behind the dish. Wilson takes his lead at third with one away. He swings and fouls one off. And it’s fouled away. Get on the ground to short. Crawford tosses to first there for the out. Runner scores from third. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jackson Kowar out of the game. It’s a three-run game. And we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. So, out of the bullpen for the Mariners, Matt Brash. He’s certainly been one of their better relief pitchers this season. The numbers are really solid, so they feel great about handing the ball over to him. Two out. Space is empty. Now it’s the shortstop. Max Schuman. First pitch swinging. Oh, that’s that slurp right there. Threw it extremely well. Talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. Chopper to second. Young on to first. Inning over on the ground out. Took just two pitches to finish the frame out of the bullpen. So they get one run, one hit, no errors, no one left. Eighth inning coming up. It’s the Mariners seven and the Athletics four. We go to the eighth. Digging in, Jorge Palano. And that misses and it’s one and0 late on that fast ball. One one That one hit to right. Cortez sizing this one up. Corrals it. One down. Right. Dominic. Now it’s the right fielder Dominic can zone. Hard hit left side and there are two outs. Now batting third base Ben Williamson. Ben Williamson up next for the Mariners and first offering is fouled off. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. And that drops in for a strike. Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch. Swing and a miss. Got him to go up the ladder for the K. Mariners are down in order. They hold a 74 lead. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready for the bottom of the eighth. And now the right fielder Carlos Cortez. And that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. Action in the pen down there. Andres Munoz, the closer, is getting ready and perhaps looking at a long save opportunity here. Spire, a left-hander, also throwing. This one in the air and out number one on the grab. Couple of pitches and a quick out. Luis. Here’s the second base, Luis Urias. Fresh in his third season. He features a slider, a four seamer, a slur, a cutter, and he works in a sinker. Next offering is downstairs. Hard hit right side. Toss to Naylor. Two up, two down. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff. Just like we saw. Two down, base is empty. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. And that’s off the inside edge. And that’s ball one. The Mariners leading by three here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Swing and a miss at 99 miles an hour. Boo. That’s cheddar, baby. to go, baby. Let’s go. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. Rodriguez going back on this one. Pulls it in on the warning track. No runs, no hits, no errors. Through eight full, it’s the Mariners seven and the Athletics four. All set to start the ninth in this one. Now it’s the second baseman Cole Young. Lopez back to work. Swings through that one. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Shawn Nukem, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Number 50, a right-hander loosening up as well. And a base hit up the middle. Man aboard on the leadoff single. JP. And now for Seattle. JP Crawford. 0 for four with three ground outs and a strikeout. There’s the strike. Andy one and that one lifted in the air center field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. One away. Up next for Seattle Julio Rodriguez. So man aboard. Here’s the center fielder Julio Rodriguez. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. And now it’s even up. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Young leads off first with one away. That one way outside. Two and two. to first and he breaks for second. To second and he’s out. Spoils that one. And it remains two and two. This guy’s seen two change ups in a row. Could be a little vulnerable for a fast ball right here. Shot back to the mound and he gloves it. Tosses to first and that is that. One hit in the inning but no one left. Onto the bottom of inning number nine. 456 coming up. It’s the Mariners seven and the Athletics four. Here comes the closer here in the ninth, Andres Munoz. And he’s done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year. The numbers stack up with some of the best in the game. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. breaking ball in there for a strike. And now two and one and a swing and a miss. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied them up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another two- two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. That one back up the middle and it gets through. And the leadoff man aboard Singy. That’s a start. Yeah, as soon as that ball got through, I could see down in the dugout guys pumping their fist. They know that they got a chance in this ball game. So digging in, Tyler Sodstrom, one for three. Tyler Snerstrom. That one almost got him. Ruer at first with no outs here. That’s a slider for a strike. Pretty rare location right there. Right down the middle. This guy paints the edges. I’m not sure if you’re going to see that pitch again as a hitter outside. fouls one off. Two and two. Nobody out. Runner at first. Goes down swinging for the strikeout. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. Jacob Wilson will hit next. He’s kind of an outlier, especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power. Hit in the air center field. Rodriguez settles under it and puts the squeeze on that one. And there’s two down. The Athletics down to their last out. And now the center fielder Lawrence Butler 0 for three in this one. Foul ball. The M’s trying to close out a three-run lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. One and one in the dirt. One-1 now. Fought off foul. all slider so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. They got him and that’s the ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. This one finishes with a final of seven to four. For Chris Singleton and our entire crew here at MLB the show, thanks for stopping by. I’m John Shami. Talk to you soon.
