Longenhagen was pretty high on Doyle going into the draft so this ranking isn't a huge surprise, but still feels good man.

All of the Cardinals in the updated Top 100:

  • Doyle (13)
  • Wetherholt (23)
  • Rodriguez (46)
  • Mathews (76)
  • Crooks (81)
  • Hence (89)

Wetherholt smashed A-ball last year and smashed AA this year and now is smashing AAA even harder in his first 12 games there, so he's also looking like a legit anchor of the infield going forward.

  1. While this is awesome, it might give some fans a false sense of optimism about our farm system. It’s still very top heavy and still very bleak on the pitching side…it’s probably around 15th league-wide and toward the bottom of the division

  2. I absolutely loved the pick but this seems ambitious. Given TINSTAAPP, unless it’s Paul Skenes, I’d REALLY hesitate to put a pitcher who hasn’t thrown a professional inning in the top 20 prospects in baseball.

I’d fully expect him to be there by mid next year, but these lists generally don’t put draft prospects super high until they have professional stats to back up their draft position.

Sky is the limit, and he’s the most exciting arm we possibly have ever had. But I’d like to see more than one college season of dominance before rating him over a guy like Wetherholt.

  3. I know he kind fell off people’s radar the past few yrs but Josh Baez has really found his groove this yr which is exciting to see. He got promoted to AA and has raked so hopefully he can keep this up

  4. I think he could be that high but we really need to him to develop a solid third pitch.

  5. I hate how we rush to rank guys so early. It’s just setting them up to be torn down because it puts him in a no win scenario. Either he is what they say he is and it’s business as usual because we expected this or he struggles and he gets labeled a bust.

    There is no benefit.
