REPORT: Josh Reynolds Leading The WR2 Race | New York Jets Latest
All right, guys. What’s going on? Welcome in. So, there was a report that came out over on ESPN. Believe it was for Mike Reese, if I’m not mistaken. Rich Sini touched on it as well, but it seems like there is a clear-cut favorite to win the wide receiver to job, Josh Reynolds, who obviously was just brought in this off season. There’s been some question marks surrounding Alan Lazard. Malachi Corley has been hurt. He’s had some disappointing moments. Arian Smith, um, obviously he’s a rookie mid-rounder, so it that’s, you know, obviously a lot to, uh, put on someone like that walking into a room. Hey, you’re a wide receiver, too, all of a sudden. And then, of course, we do have Tyler Johnson and he’s made a couple plays here and there. Seems like him and Justin Fields have a solid connection. But when we take a look at Josh Reynolds, it seems like it’s been nothing but positivity, right? Him and Fields have a connection going. Uh, he’s making plays. He’s turning heads. I remember uh there was a a story that came out, I think it was a couple days ago where he, you know, just one-on-one against Gardner. He got the best of him. And so, right now, right, as Jets fans, there’s really, you know, two ways to kind of take this or interpret this news. There’s the positive/optimistic side, and then there’s the realistic side of it. So, let’s talk about the positive side of this, which is Josh Reynolds, right off the bat, has experience working with Aaron Glenn, Tanner Ringstrand, Steve Hayen, as well as Darren Muji, right? Josh Reynolds was a part of the Detroit Lions, a part of the Denver Broncos. Seems like there’s a lot of familiarity there. I know a lot of the reporters suggested Tim Patrick, right, for a similar reason. He was in Denver, he was in Detroit, but it turns out it’s Josh Reynolds who was brought in. And if we take a look at Reynolds as a player, he’s never really had that monster thousand yard season, 900, 800 receiving yards, but he is someone that you always just kind of feel like, man, this guy’s body type, he has a lot of potential, long strides, lengthy, can high point the football. But the one thing I will say about Josh, even though he’s never had those, you know, f like absolutely dominant seasons, he’s been pretty consistent when he’s on the field, he provides consistency, which I like. Um, I mean, we’re taking a look at the contract that the Jets signed him, just a cheap one-year deal. I mean, you’re not going to expect,00 yards out of a contract like that, obviously. Um, speaking of his body type, though, it’s very different than Garrett Wilson. So, in the event where, you know, you’re just imagining, okay, the Jets offense is lining up. We understand, okay, this team wants to run the ball. Uh, they want to stick to the run game, commit to the run game, build off of the run game. You utilize Justin Fields legs. you know, Garrett’s going to get his targets. You know, Mason Taylor is probably going to be targeted based off of, of course, the camp that he’s having, but also, uh, the utilization in the tight end, uh, tight end in this style of offense, as well as Justin Fields, uh, maybe tendency to target tight ends in the past, Cole KT most notably. So, at that height at 6’4, 6’5, I like the overall size. I like the length that Reynolds provides. He gives you something different. You could you could hi uh throw Reynolds red zone fates, right? You can really give him one-on-one matchups on the outside, right? Solo. I mean, if there’s a significant height difference between him and a corner, you kind of like that matchup if you’re Justin Fields. Um, you know, the focus from opposing defenses again is going to be trying to keep Justin Fields in the pocket, stopping the run. What’s going on with G5? We always have to make sure where he is uh pretty much at all times. I like his potential and I like his fit in this style of offense. Uh it just gives it defenses a different look. It gives them something else that they have to worry about. Reynolds best year was back in 2023 with the Lions. 608 receiving yards, 40 catches, five touchdowns. Those numbers don’t really scream wide receiver, too. But has Reynolds really been in this position before where he is or you know assuming that things kind of continue on here if he does in fact win this job? You could definitely argue okay you know what yeah you’re right he doesn’t have these super super impressive numbers but he’s never been given this type of opportunity. So with this opportunity do those numbers potentially shoot up? I think you can make that argument. And also too, one of the biggest questions coming into training camp, uh, one of the biggest things that kind of was just on my mind personally, something that I was hoping for, uh, could one of these wide receivers, again, a Lazard, a Tyler Johnson, Josh Reynolds here, could one of Aaron Smith, could one of them start to separate themselves from the pack, you know, and be that go-to wide receiver, too? I don’t think anyone’s asking, you know, Josh Reynolds or any of these guys to become T. Higgins or like one of these elite number TWS, Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall if you will. Um, but can you just give us consistent play? Can you give us productive play? Can you just be someone that Justin Fields can rely on? Um, or are you out there making mistakes, maybe headscratching plays, drops, and just be not being able to get open? Just overall a liability at that spot. And again, that was one of my questions. Can one of these guys pull away? And it seems like Reynolds is in fact pulling away here. Now, we do have to, of course, look at the realistic side of it, which is if you’re in a position right now to where Josh Reynolds, who throughout the course of his career has always kind of been that wide receiver three, wide receiver four, if he comes in in one camp and is your wide receiver two in just one off season, I I think that um you know, you could if you’re not a fan of the Jets, say for example, you’re a fan of the Ravens or the Saints or the Dolphins, I take your pick and you’re looking at the Jets saying, “Man, Josh Reynolds, the career wide receiver 3, four, is the wide receiver two for this football team.” Yeah, they’re going to need more help. They’re going to need more firepower at that position. Now, of course, you can never cross off every single one of your team needs in one off season, right? Especially if you’re a five- win team with the amount of dysfunction and holes like the 2024 Jets. Like, you know, we I I personally think that Darren Muji did a good job of addressing team needs while at the same time trying to balance that with BPA. You know, if you think about all the team needs that we had coming into the offseason, like when Glenn first took over, man, there was a long, long list. Tight end, uh, right tackle with Armanu, DTackle, quarterback, both safety positions, bringing back Jamie and Sherwood, I, you know, I felt like was a pretty big priority. And we did a lot. I mean, like these, tip your hat to these guys because they did fill a bunch of needs. Um, but again, you’re never just going to say, “Okay, you know what? The Jets have six, seven different team needs and in one off season, one shoot, we’re just going to go A+, A+, A+ right across the board.” So, it seems like wide receiver is one of those positions that just got the, you know, like they kind of just made the best of what they had available to them, you know, with bringing in Josh Reynolds, with bringing in Tai Johnson here. Um, so it definitely feels like wide receiver is going to be one of those like hot positions come next year’s draft. Overall, Josh Reynolds leading the race to become the wide receiver too for this football team. On one hand, presents a good good counterpart to Garrett Wilson. Size, length. I like that about him. He knows the coach, he knows the system, he knows the guys. So, I mean, it seems like Josh Reynolds has been labeled as a really, really good teammate, not only just, you know, this offseason cycle, but uh, you know, throughout the course of his career. Obviously, he knows Darren Muji as well. There is that connection. So, yeah, we’ll see what happens here. The last thing I will say is I am impressed that Reynolds seems to be earning this job and it’s not the approach of okay, we just have to roll the the, you know, best available option out there despite none of them actually impressing us. It seems like Reynolds is stepping on the field basically saying, “I deserve to be wide receiver to watch me work.” And the work is is, you know, proof is in the pudding here. So, preseason’s going to be huge. I cannot wait for preseason. I cannot wait for that joint practice against the Giants. But uh anyway, thanks so much and as always, go Jets.

Josh Reynolds IS the WR #2.
Has always been since the moment he signed.
No competition there at WR2. also heard he's been cooking Sauce Gardner in camp battles.
Thank you for your amazing videos! They always add bright colors to my day.🟥🐕🦺🌕
I think AG and Mougey looked at Reynolds and said the same thing. Consistency. Our WR, TE and RB room is filled with talent and what ifs. Reynolds has the experience with so they know what he can provide. If A.Smith can show up, if M. Taylor and Breece ball out, if Corley or Gipson put it all together, Rather than having two STUDS like the Cowboys, Bengals, or Eagles and picking someone else up.
They snagged someone who will do the job of WR3 almost guaranteed. Leaving WR2 to be whoever pulls away from the pack and even on the WR2s off days(Can't get open, drops, misteps) Reynolds is a stabilizing force.
He's not here to become the best WR2 on the planet, he's here because he is going to be a consistent presence. And consistency is the breeding ground that lets talent flourish. (And no lie, I do want to see Corley truck a safety or two before we give up on him).
Just look at Amon-Ra. He wasn't doing much at the start of his rookie year, and turned it on late. Now we all agree he's one of the best WRs in the league, but his rookie year he was not what their offense was built around until later in the season. (Amon-Ra was also pick 112th funny enough, we snagged Smith with 110 so who knows, maybe he plays better, here's hoping!)
No surprise he knows the system i just want everyone to stay healthy
Crazy to say, " You don't expect an 1100 yard season out of a low contract ". The freaking contract is not on the field, the player is dummy, sorry but that was the stupidest comment I have ever heard. Respect that player. You throw him the ball and let him make plays.
Yes
Yeah reynolds is good 6-800 yards 4-6 td is what I expect from him
JD and Saleh high-fiving over the Corley pick is their Butt Fumble.
Peace n good energy always bro JETS JETS JETS TILL THE END. It's hard to believe Malachi Corley isn't good anymore, I watched him in college and was a beast , idk what is going on w him . I know it was 100% aaron Rodgers last year and whoever he wanted etc . I'm rootfor u Yak God
As a Detroit fan he’s a solid dude. He’s not the big flashy kind of WR making the biggest plays but he is a solid dude who gives it his all and keeps the chains moving.
I’d still get a veteran I’m sorry there some good players on FA. I’d sign Noah fant and Amari Cooper
Super concerned about our wr room. Our next receivers after GW r wr 4s on other teams. Should absolutely go after Keenan or Amari to help out. Just a 1 year deal
Josh Reynolds is a sold WR.
Reynolds is a dawg.. greatly underrated..
Josh definitely i think has a leg up on the competition because of his experience in the system.
It definitely feels like Reynolds and Tyler Johnson are the two likely WR2 candidates
Reynolds has an injury history, not sure he can last 17 games
Corley will be traded or cut. Jets will pick up a veteran WR at cut deadline.
Reynolds can be a good WR3. Arian Smith might be a decent WR4, useful for when the Jets want to stretch the field in 3- or 4-receiver sets.
The Jets offense won’t be solid until they get a real WR2.
Need to know where to get that hat
My hope is Arian Smith takes his time to learn a lot from Reynolds and insert himself as a WR4 to later WR2 next year.
The Jets skill position management is an abortion. Never changes
Thanks, Ian!
Reynolds is what Mims should have been!
Barring injury I feel like WR2 will see at best the 4th most targets (behind G5, Taylor, and Breece) in a run heavy offense so as long as Tyler Johnson or Reynolds can be better than Charone Peake I won’t be too too concerned lol
The fact he's our wr2 just shows how bad our wr core continues to be
Get Amari Cooper..Cooop 📢📣 🏈
No surprise there, been a fan of his for awhile.
Why can't the Jets ever play like this in the regular season?
Blewett likes him as a WR.
