Nationals vs. Astros Game Highlights (7/30/25) | MLB Highlights

Not officially reported by the Nets just yet, but it’s all over the country that Andrew Chaffen and Luis Garcia, the pitcher, are on their way to Southern California. And you got to make sure you have to separate that right between the relief pitcher and the second baseman. Yeah, it’s uh it’s that time. Big right-hander for the Astros has spent time both in that bullpen and out of that rotation. He’s going to have a total of 23 games. Erra is 5.18 the record at six and four. You see those 80 innings is eighth among amongst rookies. But it’s the third most innings pitched in this rotation for the Astros just behind Robert Valdez and Hunter Brown. CJ Abrams, one of those Nationals left-handed hitters will lead off. Short stop. All right. Four pitch walk to start game three. Yeah, nothing forced again. I mean, you talk about great at bat after great at bat leading into the next day. I mean it’s that’s been CJ hits the ball hard backhanded by Alt. Flips to short and that’ll be a double play. Jos Alt getting a start on the infield turns a double play on a sharply hit ground ball. Oh for McKenzie Gore think his 22nd start on the year. 352 RA a 127 whip in four starts has a 579 RA giving up a leadoff hit to Jose Altuve. continuing a rough July. But what’s interesting is he has 14 walks and 15 strikeouts in that time. Here’s Yiner Diaz, the catcher, batting second today. Yiner puts it in play into right center. That’s going to be down for a hit. Trying to go first to third is Altbe. He’ll get there. Throw comes back into second. Astros in business early against McKenzie Gore with a couple of base hits. Bring in Christian Walker, the DH. He went that time. Drew Millis, another nice block. for space occupied. So a very important first out. Cam with that double to drive in the run yesterday in the first inning. Hits this ball into center field. Coming in Jacob Young makes the catch out to base tagging. He’s coming home. Throw is not in time. Zack fly for Cam Smith. And the Astros in front one to nothing. So Josh Bell hits a dribbler up the third base line for the Nationals first hit. Now it’s Nathaniel Loe batting 226. 294 on base percentage, 15 homers, 63 RBI’s. In on the hands a bit. He’s going to muscle it out to right center. Josh Bell will touch second and make the turn. Mats have a corner situation with nobody out. That would be Dalen Lyall. Left-handed hitting right fielder who had a couple of hits yesterday, including an RBI double. And the 2-2. Lyall will lift it to center in his tracks. McCormack going to run into that throw. Here comes Josh Bell. hits the mound and the game is tied. Outstanding plate appearance by the rookie and that’s RBI number 14 to tie us up at one. Got him. Finally got him with a breaking ball down in the zone. That’s the first strike out for Gusto. Devon at first with two out for Zack Short. Right-handed hitting shortstop. Ball hit sharply. Knocked down. And how did he come up with that? D Young somehow came up with it, but he throws it away on this bounce throw that got by low, but it bounced off his glove and then he recaught it after the ball popped out of his glove. A good play, but then the throw was just off the mark. Now Jose Alt bats with an opportunity to give the Astros the lead again. Altuve skies one to left. All the way back is Wood. He is looking up. He’s watching a three-run home run. 41 Astros out number 18 on the year. He knows July is coming to an end. That’s why he’s getting some big hits. Keep increasing those hit totals. Keep increasing those RBI totals. Good vibes coming off that game last night. Now, Tuve getting the Astros going here in the second inning with a big three-run home run. Two infield hits for Josh Bell. Nobody had that before the game, right? No. Delivers. Got him. Strike three. Got a cutter up and away. Not sure that’s where he wanted it, but it worked out perfectly. Hit hard to center. Coming on Chaz McCormack. He’ll roll around on the ground after going down with that diving catch. Four to one Astros lead the Nationals. Bottom of the fifth. McKenzie Gore. 63 pitches so far. Three hit game for Jos Alt. Another base hit to left field. Jose with a three for three day going here in the fifth inning. All right, so Alt at third, Walker at first, still flexing that right knee. One out for Cam Smith. Runner again, moving, swinging a miss on a pitch up. Little delay and just strolling into the bases. Walker. He’s out on a strike him out. Throw him out double play. It’s almost like Walker wanted to get in a run down, but he didn’t stop in time. And despite Milis’s double clutch, he guns down Walker to end the inning. Astros with a 4 to1 lead over the Nationals. Top of the six. Got him. Ryan Gusto getting better as the game goes along. That’s now four strikeouts in the first out of the sixth inning. Wave and a miss. Ryan Gusto finishes his afternoon with a strikeout. Six innings. A one-run baseball for Gusto. Bottom of the sixth inning. Astros leading four to one. A run in the first on a sack fly by Cam Smith and a three-run home run by Jos Alt has the Astros in front. Punch shot and that’s going to work. Duban with a fivegame hitting streak as he knocks one into left center field for a one- out base hit. Cooper Hmel has struck out and flyed out down the line and left. Cooper Hmel third home run of the season. All rightanded. He connects on a 3-2 pitch and the Astros lead six to one. What a swing by Cooper. Humble with his third home run of the season, but that’s going to end Gore’s day. He’s out after five and a third innings. And Short draws a walk here. Will be a two- out base runner. And go back to Altu at the top of the order. Three for three today. And he bids for one. And it’s going to be a fourth hit. Alt hits one into left field. He’s four for four. Three of them have been on first pitch swings. And the Astros have runners on first and thirds. Here’s Yiner Diaz. Yer drives one high. He drives one deep forget about it. Threerun home run. Yer Diaz. The Astros step ready this game. It’s nine to one. Astros piling on. Offense got going last night and they have continued it right here into this day game. Teamed off. Eighth inning at Dyken Park. Astros with a nine to one lead over the Washington Nationals trying to take the rubber game of this three-game series. He’s getting after him pretty good. This ball sent pretty well to left center. Can Chaz find it? Yes, he can. Had just enough room and caught it right up against the bench. Chaz kept looking to see how much room he had and he got there just in time. Swinging a miss. Wood goes down on the slider. That’s the first strike out for Oak in the second out of the inning. Two out, nobody on for Luis Garcia Jr. Another left-handed hitter. 0 for three. And he waves and misses. Good inning for Steven Ocher. Getting the top third of the order in order. Ninth inning. Astros looking to take the rubber game from the Nationals leading nine to one. And Luis Contrus on to get the final three outs. Down goes Nathaniel Low. That’s the first strike out for Luis Contrus. One away here in the inning. Timman on for Washington with one out. So the Nationals with two on. Bring in Dalon Lyall in the air. Shallow left playable for Taylor Trill. Second out of the inning. Drew Millis is the last hope. Milis has a single in three trips. Luis Contrus trying to start the handshake line and we get a ground ball to Alt. four hit day and he makes the play for the final out. Astros win it nine to one. They often say it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. And this home stand started a little rough against the Athletics, losing all four of those, but they finished strong against the Nationals, winning two of three. And that’ll make that off day that much more enjoyable. The Astros needed it coming out of the break playing 13 strong. Big road trip coming up.
