MLB LIVE🔴 Seattle Mariners vs Oakland Athletics – Jul 30, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome to an ALS matchup on the show. It’s the Seattle Mariners going up against the Athletics. And now, please welcome your All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So, just about set now and today’s starter, Jacob Lopez. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble. trust that his stuff can have late life in miss barrels of bats. Okay, all set to go. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit and that misses and we’re underway. And that is out of play. and delivers outside. Next offering upstairs three in one. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. That’s a good bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Well, he opted to go with the off speed stuff on that 32 with the bases empty. Close pitch, but now he’s got to work out of the stretch. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez and that one fouled off. Come on, Jacob. Crawford on it first. Nobody out. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. fights it off. He’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Man, it’s so difficult as a hitter to get on plane with that pitch. It’s breaking down and in, and you’ve got to find a way to match the plane. And if it’s nasty like that one, bite at the end, most times you’re swinging over the top and walking back to the dugout. In now is the Mariners DH. Cal Raleigh not getting the results he’s wanted at the plate recently under the Mendoza line so far this month. Man at first, one away. Now one out to right. Cortez sizing this one up. And there’s two down. And now we check out the Mariners lineup. And Chris, this offense is facing a defense that is well known for kicking the ball around a bit. How aware are you offensively of a bad defensive team? Well, you’re not like completely aware because you’re really focusing on your approach. But I think when you know about a team and how they can be sloppy and as it plays out in a ball game, you’re more intent on saying with two strikes, I got to make sure that I put the ball in play because even if I don’t get a knock, there’s a chance they commit an error and it leads to us scoring more runs. Right through there for a strike. One and one. Pop dump. Schuman. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. Mariners leave one. And now the Athletics offense gets its first shot here. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here with my pal Singi and on the mound now, George Kirby. Chris, what should we keep an eye on here with him? Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Bottom of the first and now the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. And that’s in the dirt. Sometimes pitchers working backwards starting with the breaking ball, but it’s a tricky approach. He almost wants to bait you out there to throw that stuff to start the at bat. Fast ball is outside. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with the fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And that’s downstairs and outside. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. man aboard on the leadoff single. He was over that one. Couldn’t get any air under it, but he smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it, and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it. Now it’s the rookie first baseman, Nick Curts on a line. Base hit. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Back to back singles that pretty much split the zone down the middle leg. Those are the ones where you got to make them pay. First and second, no outs. And next is the designated hitter, Brent Rooker. Pitch misses there. And that’s ball one. No straight. Let’s go. And that one fouled off. can’t connect on the curve ball. Struck him out. Well, that’s a curve ball that I’m sure he wants back at the plate. Two strikes, the sort of pitch you’re hoping for. A bit of a mistake and I’d say in a very hitable location, but clearly the break was enough to get him to swing through it. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. That catches the zone for a strike. One and two. Now just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. Strike three and that’s two in a row. Toughest pitch to hit. Fast ball on the outer black. Man, sometimes you just got to tip your cap. Sonstrom Tyler Soderstrom getting ready to hit. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Two aboard, two outs. Just missed. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you get a broken bat, you jog back to the dugout. One ball, two straight. Knocks that one away and will do it again. And a one two just off the outside part of the plate. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Gets a piece and stays alive. Butler the lead runner out at second. Kurts at first. Two out of the inning and that’s the swing. It’s a strike out. Oh, this guy competes hard. We see the emotion there. I love it. Great job of getting out of the jam. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now it’s Josh Naylor. You know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate, try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. Lopez back to work. And that is in for a strike. One and that’s down and away. Rusty Valentine doing the umpiring behind the dish for us. Maybe the best name in the league. Yeah, that’s a solid one. No doubt. I mean, who’s better to ask than you? I kind of wonder if Rusty is his actual name or just a nickname. Yeah, no clue. Next pitch is outside. Anyways, Rusty’s got a good zone. Very good on the corners of the plate, but he’ll give pitchers a little bit above the letters and below the knees if they’re earning it. That catches the outside corner and the count’s even at two outside. That one misses. So a leadoff walk. batting six batter. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Come on, that one’s upstairs. Ball one. Next pitch is downstairs. Runner on the go. Popped up. Foul territory behind the play. Has room and he makes the catch. Mitch Garver up to his catcher Mitch Garver. And a foul ball. Second inning here. No score. Swaying in a miss and it’s 0 and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. And a one two in the air left field. Sodrom under it. makes the catch. Two down. Betting eighth, right fielder Dominic Kenzone. So up next, Dominic Kenzone. Baby, let’s go. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Two gone, but the go-ahead run is at first here in the top of the second. Swing and a miss. No balls, two strikes. That pitch started in and ended up on the outside edge. Just changing planes and very difficult. A threw it by him. A swing and a miss at the fast ball to end the inning. One left for Seattle. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. And we’re back. Bottom of the second. Here’s Miguel and Duh. Third base, Miguel Anduhar. That smashed towards center. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one away. Batting seven right fielder Carlos. And now here is Carlos Cortez. And that one’s a little bit low. And that is ball one. One out. Base is empty. Next pitch in for a strike and it’s one and one. Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. The first move felt like a bit of a guess. You have to be right in those spots or things can get away from you awfully quickly. Shortstop Matt Schumman. Man at first with one gone. Max Schuman up next for the A’s. Fought off. Foul. Let’s go. Go. lifted in the air right center field. Rodriguez tracks it down for the out. They trust him in center field because he’s capable of making plays on the run and we saw it right there. That’s a player you want patrolling center field. Someone who can attack the ball off the bat. Here’s Luis Oas. And that one almost hit him. Cortez the runner at first with two gone. And there’s the strike. One. And this one bounces away from Garver. And now a man into scoring position. Runner at second. Two down. Bottom half of inning number two. Ground ball up the middle. Toss to Naylor. Bang bang play and the inning is over. The A’s strand one. We’ll move to the third with no score. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. And stepping in for the Mariners, Ben Williamson. Slider misses outside. Williamson in his rookie season, 24 years old, and he was a second round pick in 2023. That catches the corner. That one the other way. Urias fires over to first and one away in the top of the third. Up next for Seattle, shortstop, JP Crawford. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s the Mariners leadoff man, JP Crawford. Walk to open the ball game. Swinging a foul straight back. Swinging a foul straight back. One down. Base is empty and he grounds one to the right side. Urias tosses to first and a couple of quick outs. Deceptive slider right there. Stayed in the tunnel a long time. Got that hitter out front. Rolled over it. Put it on the ground. Julio Rodriguez the next to hit. Went down on strikes his first time through. Off the mark there. And it’s one and0. That was the sweeper, but it missed. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. There’s the strike up high and it’s two and one. swing and a miss as he was out front that time. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Butler on his way over, makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. Home half of the third coming up. No score as we go to the last of the third. Now, here’s the lead off hitter for the Ace, Lawrence Butler. Butler inside just missed. Next offering in there for a strike. That’s strike one. And the slider catches the zone. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. That one just misses and the count is two and two. Really good take especially with two strikes. Ripped in the air left field and a touchdown for a base hit. So a board to start the inning. That’s back to back singles for him. Handled that down and in breaking ball very well. Oh, he saw the break early coming from the other side and just let it get deep enough and dropped the barrel on it at the very last moment. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts, one for one with a single so far. Splits the plate. Strike one. Still tied at zero. Last of the third. Swanging a high-fly ball right field. Kenzone on the move. Pulls it in. And there’s one away. Now batting designated hitter Brent Rooker. Now it’s the DH Brent Rooker. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. Take it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect label over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Kirby checks over to first and he’s back. That’s too low. Ball one. Line to right and that’ll be a base hit. The throw to third and the throws off line. Safe at third. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game. Runners in the corners here. One away. And now here’s the A’s catcher and he can’t come up with it. But he wins the foot race to first. Good job of knowing how much time he had there. Now the left fielder Tyler Sodroer. Tyler Soder. And that’s in there at the knees. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Rooker on it second with two down. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball out towards right center. That’s well struck. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases. The run comes in from second. It’s two nothing. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at bat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. That’s a good sound coming off the bat, man. And as he connected out front, lifted into the outfield. That’s one of those swings where you just don’t even feel the ball hit the barrel. That’s a pure stroke. So, runner at second, two down. And Duhar will hit next. He’s 0 for one out towards right center field. And that’s a base hit. Brown’s third headed for the plate. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and they’re up by three. Oh, no waiting around right there. He was ready to swing it on the first pitch. You know what they say, he couldn’t have thrown it out there any better than that. And certainly the case that time. Just flared it back behind the second baseman and dropped it in there. Two outs, runner at first. Carlos Cortez up next for the A’s. hammered down the right side but foul already three runs across in the frame here in the last half of the third close one doesn’t get the call and the count is one and one and a strike on the outside edge. One ball, two strike. Got him. Rusty Valentine rings him up. Three runs for him here. And they move ahead on to inning number four. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners nothing. as we go to the top of the fourth. Stepping in the long ball threat, Cal Raleigh. is middle of the order. Second time through. We’ll see what kind of adjustments are being made. Next pitch is outside. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Nope. All three. Expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball, something in the zone because he does not want to allow the leadoff walk. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. Come on, Athletics. That one ripped but foul. swing and a miss. Had him out front for the strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Now it’s Randy Rosarena 0 for one with a fly out. And first offering is fouled off. Late on that fast ball. The Mariners still looking for their first hit in this one. And that one upstairs. Up and in. Two and two. Two and two. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. And they’ll do it again. Let’s go to gold, baby. Let’s go. This one chopped up the middle. Whips it to first on the run in time. Got him. Up next for Seattle. First baseman Josh Naylor. Two outs. Base is empty. Here’s Josh Naylor. Walked his first time. And that is downstairs. One and0. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. Just missed. Swinging a miss. And it’s two and one now. Good two- change up right there. I mean, as a hitter, you have it in the back of your mind, but you have to sit fast ball. And based on the swing, you got to think that’s what he saw out of the hand. Well, I think the key, I mean, if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So, a two out knock keeps the inning alive. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. Palano swings through that one as he comes to the plate for the second time today. Two outs. Highf fly ball out to left field. Sodestrom under it. Nabs it. And that is that. Mariners leave one. Still down three nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Chabi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Max Schumlet. That’s to third. Tosses across to first and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off. Second base Luis Urias. Next up for the A’s, Luis Urias. Grounded out his first time up. Let’s go to baby. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Base is empty. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. He swings and hits a fly ball center field. Nice grab on the run. Two away now. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Butler in the box again, takes a strike. Strike two. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Two out. Space is empty. Goes down looking. Three up, three down for him there. We’re headed to the fifth. It’s the Ace three and the Mariners nothing. New inning getting started. Here’s the catcher, Mitch Garver. Lopez back to work. That clips a corner. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Oswaldo Beido, the young right-hander, up and throwing. Sears, a left-hander, also throwing. Out to center Butler and out number one on the grab. Now batting right fielder Dominic Kenzone. Dominic Kenzone up next for the Mariners. He was a strikeout victim his first time. And the sweeper is off the plate. The A’s leading by three. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And another ball. That one called just inside, I think. And on the mound. He’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation. Doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it, though. But he clearly thought it clipped the corner. One down. Base is empty. And that’s a little high and he walked him on four pitches. Thought he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot. Hitter didn’t offer at it. Now he has somebody to worry about over at first. Man at first. Now the third baseman Ben Williamson 0 for one so far. That one clips the outside corner and it’s 0 and one. Kenzone the base runner at first with one out. Fast ball is outside. One. And look out as that one ran in and got him. Thank you. Back to the top of the Seattle order at the plate. JP Crawford. He’s 0 for one. And a foul ball. Come on. Knee high. That’s in for a strike. runners at first and second with one gone. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Two on, one out. The shorts stop takes the ball. him out. Fouls it back with two strikes. Well, he’s not afraid to fall into a two- strike count. Knows the strike zone very well. So much so that I think umpires will look at him and determine whether it’s a ball or strike if he swings or not. Good battle here. about to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Popped in the air left field. Sodrom and there’s two down. Now batting the center fielder Julio Rodriguez. So two down now and here is Julio Rodriguez. Bowl for two in this one. Fast ball in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Foul ball there. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. strike him out and a swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. Still nothing on the scoreboard for him after five. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners nothing. ready to go for the last half of the inning. And now Nick Curts. That one catches the corner for a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Ryan Woo preparing to come on if needed. Kar also getting ready. That misses and one and one swing and a miss as he was late. They just threw that fast ball by him, elevated and if you’re not looking up in that location, very difficult to catch up to, especially with that velocity. And there’s a ball. on the ground to the left and foul ball and a swing and a miss down on strikes and that’s sixks for him in this one. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Rooker in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. He swings and fouls one off and a ball in two strikes in the air right side. Kenzone hauls it in for the out and there are two down. Now batting the catcher, Shay Langers. Two down, base is empty. Shay Langalers up next for the A’s. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. This to third. Williamson slings it across. That ends the frame. A’s go quickly and quietly there, but they lead it three nothing. Now pitching. So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Now it’s the Mariners DH Cal. is one of the best players in the game. Yeah, the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Pitching has been pretty dominant in this one, but you got to be careful not working with too big a lead. They could get right back in this ball game if you’re not careful. on the ground. Urias now one gone in the top of the six and as well lots of pop in that bat. So you combine the slug with really good defense. And next will be the cleanup hitter Randy or Rosarena and that one fouled off. Beo goes 6′ 3 in. He features a fourseam fast ball, a slider, a change up, a cutter, and he works in a sinker. One ball, two strike. The M’s trailing by three. And we’re the top half of the sixth. That one down the line on Duhar over to first. Two quick outs to open the top of the six. Now batting the first baseman, Josh Naylor. Two outs. Base is empty. And up next for Seattle, Josh Naylor. The walk and he’s also singled. And a slider in there for a strike. I say it’s the best pitch in baseball. Strike one, you get ahead on a good hitter as well. Gives you a little bit more confidence to move through the at bat. Two down on quickly into an 02 count. Both pitches were down in the zone. I think you set your sights a little bit higher cuz you’ll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area. Throws to second. He’s in there. back against the wall with two strikes but found a way. Pitch was in and off the plate. So hard to do anything with a pitch in that location, but somehow he got the barrel to it and hit it well. Pretty amazing. So runner at second, two down. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. Just missed. Two outs and one in scoring position. Next offering is fouled back. That one way inside. Mitch Garver on deck for the M that one back up the middle and it gets through. Headed for the plate now. A long throw home. Safe at the plate. And now just a two-run deficit. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. She didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Runner at first with two away. Mitch Garver now at the plate. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. and there’s a foul ball. Palano leads off first with two down to the inning. Swing to a miss. Stripped him out. Slider got him for strike three. So, one run in the inning on this base hit and this is now a 31 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back down for the bottom of the sixth. And there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Ryan Woo just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Sod. Athletics, left fielder. Tyler Soderstrom. And that’s through there for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. And the righty deals on the corner for a strike. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Ooh, he missed a mistake right there. And that’s a little bit high. One and two to count. Battling here as he fouls it away. Got him swinging. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Just a mid90s challenge fast right there. Not much to it. And I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. Those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say, “How’d I miss that?” But you know, it happens. That one fouled off. One down. Base is empty. Foul ball. swing and a highf fly ball left field. A Rosarena sizes this one up, brings it in and there’s two away now. Batting right. So digging in, Carlos Cortez, one for two. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. Fast ball is outside. The 1-1 is fouled off. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking and it’s a three up, three down inning. Offense held in check there. We’re through six full. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners won. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Shawn Nukem. He’s averaging more than one hit allowed per inning pitch this season, and that’s not where you want to be at all. So, we’ll see how he does here. So, digging in, Dominic can zone struck out, and he is walked. That one’s in there. Going along. Well, on paper, it’s favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side, same side he throws from. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. So, up next, Ben Williamson. in there at the knees. One and one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Justin Sterner up and throwing. Sears also throwing. The tying run at the plate. A little bit high. And it’s one and one. Uh-oh. Backto back batters hit by a pitch. Now first and second, no outs. Crawford getting ready to hit. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. First pitch doesn’t find the zone on the ground left side. Six four three and they turn the double play. They made that double play look so easy but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Shawn Nukem gives way and he leaves a runner at third. So we’ll see how the next pitcher deals with that when we get back. Now pitching. So a new pitcher on the mound for the A’s, Justin Sterner. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. Julio Rodriguez coming to the plate now in a big spot. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. And that one finds its way through. Runner from third in to score. And it’s an RBI single. And now they trail by one. Well, back within one as he brings home the run. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. Nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. In now is the Mariners DH. Cal Raleigh 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. And things could change quickly here with one swing. That’s a big run over there at first base. He’s got some speed. Let’s see if they send him. Strike on the inside corner. Well, in this situation, hitter knows that he’s got to find a pitch that he can drive in order to drive in that tying run all the way from first base. So, if he can’t do that, keep the line moving through a walk or just a base hit. But you got to stay within yourself. Next offering upstairs. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the discipline so that you’re not popping up pitches that are just a little too high in the dirt. fast ball for a strike. If you were an average catcher behind the plate, I’d say take second base, but this isn’t a catcher you want to run on. His quick release is unreal. Move to first in the air left side. Sodestrom pulls it down and that is that. But they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s 32 A’s. Back after this on the show. And we’re back. Bottom of the seventh. And now Max Schuman. And it’s fouled away. Now the one movement in the bullpen. Gabe Spire appears to be getting loose. right through there. Got him. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. You got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. Next up for the A’s, Luis Urias. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Garver calls it in. Two away. Up next for the A’s. Center fielder Lawrence. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. Let’s go, baby. Let’s go. Swings through that one. 0 and one in the on deck circle. You really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball. Last thing you want to do is miss a good hitable fast ball early in the count. Drill out towards left center field. Rodriguez makes the catch and go over. Now pitching number 49 into the game. He last pitched two days ago. Digging in Randy Rosarena. three. That one misses. And that’s ball one. And it’s fouled off. looking to get the tying run on base and that’s off the inside edge and the count two and one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. And now the count filled up three and two. Josh Naylor in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Tapped in front of the plate. Throws to first in time and that’s one away as the leadoff man is out in the eighth. You want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff just like we saw Naylor in the box now takes strike one. No need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes. It’s just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and away pitch. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this back of his Got him. And now two gone. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. Jorge Tolano. There’s the strike. He’ll one and the pitch is outside. Ball one. Way to go, baby. Let’s go. Two outs. Out to short. Schuman zips it to first and the Mariners set down. One, two, three. Nobody left for Seattle. They trail it 3-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now Nick Curts. Nick Curts. Woo. Back to work. There’s the strike. Late on that fast ball. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. One ball, two strike. Fights that one away. Still one and two. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Foul ball still a one and two count. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. And that one is lifted in the air. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. One down. Now batting designated hitter Brent Rooker. Now the A’s designated hitter. Brent Rooker. A former first round pick. And he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. That’s off the mark. Ball one. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off- feet pitch. And another ball. You get to this part of the order. Yeah, there’s some pop there, but more likely there’s some base hits. So, very important to be patient. Let the pitcher walk you, if you will. The next offering misses and now 3 and 0. Outside corner. There’s a strike. Eddie Watton. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on the team, you’re going to take that pick because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. Swinging a foul out of play. Got the bat going too soon at strike two. That’s a leading by a run. the one two. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Swings and misses. Struck him out. came inside with that two strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. And the first pitch misses for ball one. in the air right field and that will drop foul. Next offering is in for a strike. Rooker off of first with two away and a foul ball. He stays alive. bows it off. Still one and two. Let’s go. Oh foul ball left side. He’ll see another and it remains two and two. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Grinding AB right here. About to see pitch number 10. Next pitch is outside. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Foul ball and it remains a full cow. Stays alive. in the air. Right field pretty well struck. Raging back towards the wall. Pulls it in on the warning track. So, it’s no runs, no hits, no errors, and one left on. Ninth inning coming up. It’s the A’s three and the Mariners two. Now pitching for we’re back and on the mound is the closer Desmond Swinganger. A chance at his first save of the year. Now the Mariners catcher Mitch Garver 0 for three with two fly outs and a strikeout. And that’s downstairs. And that is ball one. And that skips in the dirt right now. Behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that. In the air, center field, makes the catch for the up next for Seattle, right Dominic. And here is Dominic Hanzone. Little surprised we don’t see a pinch hitter here with the lefty lefty matchup. Pitch misses and that’s ball one. Little bit low. That’s a really good take. And that’s his strike out looking now. Only one out remaining. Yeah, that’s a tough pitch to stay on. You don’t want to get beat inside. And as you see that pitch continue to run away from you, by the time it’s in the catcher’s mid, you think it’s a ball off the plate away. So, last chance for the Mariners. Here’s the third baseman, Ben Williamson. First pitch and he just misses. Swinganger only 18 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. Two down on. If you’re the pitcher, you’ve got to go right at this guy. It’s the number nine hitter in the lineup. You can’t be afraid of contact in this situation. That one almost got him. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t groove one either. Swinger is just one strike away. lifted to left and that should do it. And that’ll do it. The A’s hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. The ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house. I mean, it’s kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall. You just can’t forget your first save. Heat. Heat.
