Exclusive Interview with Pat McAfee | Pittsburgh Steelers

All right, Pat, was this as simple as Aaron Rogers said, “Hey, why don’t you guys come out to training camp?” And I got the ball rolling and that’s how you guys ended up here. First of all, Missy, uh, we’re all Mustangs here. Yes, we are. Uh, Plum, where the ballers ball and players play. It is an honor to be back here in Western Pennsylvania. Yeah. Aaron invites us on the air and then feel a little public pressure from the people at Pittsburgh, family as well, friends, uh, back here. Tom, everybody just kind of reach out like, “Do you want to do this?” And it made too much sense to showcase the Yinszer people and what this training camp is versus what other places might be? I think was a beautiful thing. And uh we had a blast. Hot as hell, but it’s supposed to be supposed to be. So it’s been a blast. Yeah. You said on air, were you and your brother here at some point when you were younger? Yeah. Sorry. Do you know what year? I don’t remember the year. I was like nine or 10. We’re trying to figure it out. Uh we’re also going through a bunch of old photos, which was a fun time with my mom and dad. Uh looking back at my childhood. Couldn’t find the photo that I remember, but me, and my brother, my dad, I think we were on that hill right over there. I don’t know. I’m not 100% sure, but yes, I was here as a child, which I think every Pittsburgh kid is kind of forced to do. Right of passage. Yeah, exactly. This being here since 1966 is crazy. And it’s one of the beautiful traditions I think of uh all sport. Did this exceed your expectations, the fans that came out, the hospitality, or what do you think? So, I’m friends with a father now. Uh the priest, CEO priest, Father Paul. Uh, he’s been great. I don’t have a lot of priest friends, so that’s been fun to talk to him. I saw a monk. I got a chance to talk to a monk. I did not expect monks to be here. They look like they live a pretty chill life. Uh, it looks like fun. The people that showed up though with how hot it was definitely blew away all of our expectations, you know, because especially with the hills, you know, Western Pennsylvania, the hilliest place on earth, and I think it’s why we all have big quads and asses. But, uh, with the way it was set up, the people showing up for us, yeah, it exceeded all expectations. And uh yeah, I would love to do it again. All right, we know you live in Indie, but what’s your take on this team? All in, bro. All right, come on, Missy. Aren’t we all in? You tell me. I’m I’m all in. You’re all in every year, though. Yeah, I’m like really all in though. There’s something different. Feels like there’s a little bit of a buzz. I mean, we talked to Omar Con about it today about how like this is not how the Steelers operate. Pay a wide receiver 30 mil a year that hasn’t been a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers before. Let just pay any wide receiver 30 million a year. DK Mechaf, Jaylen Ramsey, Derry Slay, then the Jonnu trade, and then Aaron obviously. I mean, it’s just like it’s awesome, and I appreciate the team acknowledging that they’re good. I mean, it’s like we need to be great, and I think that’s kind of been the message. And why not the Pittsburgh Steelers? All right. Well, we want you guys to come back every year. Standing invitation. Yeah, that’d be cool. I just talk the talk the I mean, just handshake and dampening up the Roies. That’s crazy, isn’t it? That give us a crazy hands are. Exactly. That’s what I’m saying. So, it’s okay. Like, I got We were on a little dorm room up here before the show and uh somebody knocked on the door and they were like, “Uh, Mr. Rooney wants to come talk to you. Is that okay?” I’m like, “Oh, yeah. Yeah, it is a-okay that anybody from the Rooney family wants to talk to me, especially being a kid from Pittsburgh. So, yeah, it’s been a great day. Would love to come back.” And, uh, we’re having a blast. I think I might end up on Mike Tomman’s Instagram, too. That’s a big Yeah, that might happen. No spoilers, but that might happen. I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen. That’s a big deal. It’s hard to get on there. It’s hard to get on there. You might make the grid. Love you. You too. All right. Goodbye.

  1. Pat is the man๐Ÿ˜… No one puts on for Pittsburgh nationally like Pat. It always seems like when someone from Pittsburgh does something big and they go on to be something in the mainstream, they seem to try to supress their yinzer accent. Pat leans into it, and you have people all over the country saying "Dahn!!"๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Shout out McAfee, making Pittsburgh prahd!!๐ŸซกโœŒ๏ธ

  2. There's only two question marks on this team: #1- How good is the O-line? #2- How old will Aaron play? Well…the line was young as hell last year but one year older and better, Aaron played pretty damn well down the stretch for the Jets, and the skill position players and defense are STACKED. If the O-Line and Aaron can show up this year? Then this team is a Super Bowl contender.

  3. Pat is a Colt, but he's forever part of Steelers Nation
