MLB LIVE🔴 New York Mets vs San Diego Padres – Jul 29, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
So just about set now and towing the slab you Darvish. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Yeah, he’s definitely had a struggle so far this year as evidenced by that inflated whip. But he’s going to have to find a way to limit the base runners, put his team in a position to win a ball game. So we know he’s prepared. We know this guy’s a competitor and we’ll watch how he works in this one. Brandon NMO, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Pitch misses there. And that’s ball two. Two and0 in there for a strike at the top of the zone. late on that fast ball. Struck him out looking on the back door slider. Tremendous job of bringing that ball back under the plate. He gets just enough of it to get the call. And tell you what, as a hitter, it starts out of the zone. It looks really far away and forth to catch the outside corner. You just have to tip your cap to the pitcher. Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate. Upstairs. Lindor in his 10th season, 31 years old, and he was born in Puerto Rico. Darvish delivers. That one missed. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. And that skips in the dirt. One out. Base is empty. in the air. Center field. Makes the grab. Two down. All right, let’s take a look at the lineup. This is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks, Chris, so we’ll probably see a very patient approach from them. Yeah, Boo. And that’s often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored. You get runners on base. You work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers. And then you take advantage when they make mistakes. You get into that bullpen. You could tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack. A lot of patience just like you said. Juanto now in the box. Comes up empty with a swing there. Just off the outside edge and it’s one and one. Two out. Base is empty. The one-1 is fouled off. Highf fly ball lifted into right field. Tatis makes the catch and that’ll do it. No score as we head to the bottom of the first. And we’re back towing the slab in today’s game number 50. Well, he brings into this one an excellent strikeout to walk ratio on the season. And when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets and the fact that he’s not issuing free passes, that’s going to make him more economical in his pitch count allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games. So we’ll see if that remains true in this one. Now it’s the right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. First pitch not close. Boo Tatis is so athletic he probably could have carved out a career in other sports if he wanted but he grew up in a baseball family with baseball in his blood. And a foul ball. Swings through that one. One and two is the count. Got him swinging. Just a mid90s challenge fast ball right there. Not much to it. And I’m sure he’d love another swing at it because it was in a very hitable location. Those are the swings where you can sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say, “How’d I miss that?” But you know, it happens. Base hit and the Padres’s have a man aboard with one out. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Manny Machado, the next to hit, takes outside. Swing and a base hit. And that forces the runner to hold on at second. Two on with one away. Batting fourth, the center fielder. First and second, one out. Merrill the next to hit. On the ground to third over to Mcneel over to Alonszo for the inning ending double play. Poetry in motion there as the second baseman turns the double play. Nice throw to first and that’s the way to end the inning back here in San Diego. Here’s Pete Alonso Alonszo. Darvish back to work right through there for a strike. It’s 0 and one. That’s a ball that’s down. Our umpire for this one, Freddy Ferguson. A consistent umpire by all accounts. Yeah, I think the book on him is that he’s not necessarily by the book with his strike zone, but once you figure out where he’s calling strikes, you can pretty much count on him to stay with that throughout the game. And that one is inside. Fans don’t really understand the familiarity and relationship players and coaches have with umpires. I mean, you see them a lot. Yeah, Boo. They’re all out there trying to do their best and perform at a high level. So, when you respect that, I think over time you can develop a relationship with them. Here’s the 2- two. That one is absolutely belted. Gone. That’ll fire up the dugout. His 23rd of the year. It’s one- nothing. It’s really impressive how he’s able to take an outside fast ball, get around it, and hit it with authority to the pull side. Most guys are popping up weakly to the opposite field. Jeff McNeel stands in. Late swing, fouled to the left. Always exciting to see a laid-off home run in an inning. kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning. The wide to kick the pitch. That one ran inside. Almost got him. ball high. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the top of the second and it remains two and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. outside loan. Full count now. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Inside and that’s ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. A great back and forth in that at bat. Had to play off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. And the batter now, Brett Batty. And that one fouled off. Darish kicks, delivers, gets the outside corner with that one. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you’d have to wait for the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. Here’s the catcher, Francisco Alvarez. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. swings through that knowing that the pitcher wants a ground ball double play opportunity here. You’ve got to lay off pitches down in the zone right there. Swinging at that pitch. That’s a no no. the other way and it stays fair. McNeel headed for third and they’ll have runners at the corners after a one out single. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the atbat after being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. He really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing. Foul. One thing that was great about the approach, his head was down all the way through the pitch and that’s how you do it. Now Ronnie Mauricio and that’s through there for a strike. Oh and one. Two on, one out. Here’s a highf fly ball out to center. Merrill nabs it. Runner tags from third. Now a dive for the tag and he gets it. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s an early one- nothing lead. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Petco, here’s the veteran shortstop. Tap foul at the plate. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit. Just not able to square it up. Outside low and it’s one and two. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. The short stop takes the ball. Next offering is downstairs. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. Not the best location with the fast ball on strike three, but when you’re pumping high 90s, you get away with some of those more margin for error. You know, the fast ball has become such a huge strikeout pitch in the sport. And I think a lot of it has to do with all the attention and emphasis on improved spin rates. These fast balls are just exploding out of the pitcher hands and jumping through the zone. And now Gavin Sheets and the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strikes. fast ball is outside. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When he elevates, hitters aren’t touched. And that’s way high. And that’s ball three. That one ripped and that gets down in the corner around first and hustling for second. And that’s a double. Well, when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. Jake Croninworth the next up for the Padres’s. Croninworth a seventh round pick by the Rays in 2015 out of the University of Michigan where he was a two-way guy and in fact the Rays used him that way. Man at second just ball Next offer in there for a strike. Now he’s in a one-two hole. That one the other way and it stays fair. Headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Oh, the throw is over his head and he’ll reach second with one away. A costly mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen. That’s a play you just want to forget about. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Josea Glacius the next up for the Padres’s. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. right through there for a strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two and ball two strikes. And that just misses. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Two two now. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. That misses the zone and it’s three and two. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the bat. Line drive and this might be trouble. Here comes Croninworth around third and it gets by him. Throw cut off to third. The throw is late and a run is in to score. He was all over that one. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Elias Diaz the next up for the Padres’s. That’s through there for a strike. Ground ball up the middle. Toss to Alonzo. Now two away as they get a run across. And the batter will be Fernando Tatis Jr. let off the game with a strike out. Junior and that’s a little bit high. One and0. One and0. What a stop. What a play. Inning over. Three runs for him here and they move ahead. We play two full. It’s the Padres’s three and the Mets won. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the inning. And stepping in for New York, Tyrone Taylor. The pitch. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. Next offering in there for a strike and the count is 0 and two. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shut down inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Breaking ball misses down and away. Ground ball right side and foul ball and a fast ball misses outside for a ball and the count is filled up. That one misses. So a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that one. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s the Mets leadoff man, Brandon NMO. Fouled off left side. Well, these Mets doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only given up one run, but the starter’s pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. One, fouled off. He was late. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another. I love this part of the game. Does he really want to try and steal second against this catcher? I know he’s fast, but it’s pretty risky. Two in the dirt, but kept close. Chris through the early stages. He hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Here’s a 2-2. battling here as he fouls it away. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Makes the catch for the one away. Here’s Francisco Lindor to center his first time. Darvis checks on the runner and he’s back safely. Just missed. That’s the ball. Taylor leads off first with one away. ripped to third and caught. They put a really good swing on that pitch and hit the ball hard. You know, line drives won’t always find a hole, but the more you can hit the ball like that with good exit below, the better off you’re going to be in the long run. Here’s Wanoto. He’s 0 for one. ripped on a line to center. Makes the grab and that’s the third out. Met strand one and it remains a 3-1 ball game. And we’re back as we go to the last of the third. Now the number two hitter, Luis. Chris, baseball today, so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers, but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. That one fouled off. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. a change up missing and a cow two and one. When you look at the elite teams in the game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss and that’s down. A base hit and a good start to the inning. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Nice line drive to the full side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. So, a man at first. Here comes Manny Machado. One for one with a single so far. And Manny gets a piece. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. This one popped up right side. Alonso sizes this one up and there’s one down. And Chris, beyond the fact that he’s so incredible defensively, he also can swing the stick. Jackson Merrill, the next up for the Padres’s. He hit into a double play his first time up. And there’s a ball. The one runner on the go and foul ball in the air out to center. Taylor hustling after it. Got it. Really had to move for that catch and there’s two away. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. It’s Xander Bogarts now. Andoul ball. That one finds the zone and that’s strike two. 0 and two and a curve misses outside. Two outs. Stays alive. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Lifted in the air down the left side. And that is that. Padres’s leave one, but they still lead it 3-1. Start of the fourth. And here’s the first baseman, Pete. Alonsozo. Alonsozo. Swinging a foul straight back. And the sweeper misses and that is out of play. That’s to third. A Glacius whips it across. That’s the first out in the top of the fourth. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. McNeel in the box for the second time. One ball, no strikes. Base is empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. This one in the air. The Glacius settles underneath it and it’s caught for the out. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Brett, now it’s the DH Brett Batty. He struck out swinging at his first at Batty, 25 years old, a former first round pick back in 2019. That’s a strike and it’s 0 and two. All right. Now, he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire’s calls, but at this point, he’s going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Good job to fight that one off. Two down to outside corner. Got him looking. Nothing across here this half. We’re midway in the fourth. It’s the Padres’s three and the Mets won. Back here in San Diego. John Chi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Gavin Sheets. And that’s a little bit high. Ball one. I’ve gotten to call some incredible NLDDS games here at Petco Park between the Padres’s and their fierce rivals, the LA Dodgers. NLDS game four here in 22 when the Padres’s knocked off LA and then game four in 2024 when the Dodgers started their comeback and eventual run to the World Series. One of the great fan environments in baseball. fouls it off. Still one and two. Yeah, that’s too high. Just outside and it’s a full count. Really good take especially with two strikes. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Stretches out and hauls it in. Got to love the over the shoulder catch. I tell you what, those are really fun to make. Cronin. Jake Croninworth getting ready to hit. One for one with a double and a run scored. Pitch is in there. Strike one. Ball one there. Swang and a miss. Missed that by a mile in the count. One and two. ball and down on strikes he goes. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. The third base number for the Padres, Josea Glacius. Glacius, one for one. He tripled in his first trip. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. 01. He swings and fouls one off. Two down, nobody on. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Just misses the mark outside the zone. Really good two- strike pitch right there. Surprised he was able to spit on that thing. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. Padres’s go down quietly as the lead remains 3-1. back here at Petco Park. And here’s the catcher, Francisco Alvarez. Alvarez. Darvish back to work. that finds the mark on the inside corner. No, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. And that’s in the dirt. Two strikes. And that skips in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. Line drive, balls it in, and there’s one away. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact, and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. So, up next, Ronnie Mauricio. And that one is downstairs. Ball one. Foul ball there. Justice. That miss. That’s a ball. The Padres’s leading by two and we’re in the top of the fifth. That’s ripped. Base hit. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. man at first with one gone. Now it’s going to be Tyrone Taylor. He reached out to walk his first time. There’s the strike. And now let’s eat it up. Activity in the bullpen for San Diego. Adrien Morome, a lefty looks to be getting himself ready. Cole getting cranked up as well. The 1-1 is fouled off. The one two quick throw back in. lead runner holds at second with one go up. Next for the Mets, the left fielder, Brandon NMO. Back to the top of the Mets order, Brandon NMO will hit next. That’s the ball. This one in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate there. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Next one misses. Ball two. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two on, one out. And another ball. Back door breaking ball just missed right there. And boy, umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. Francisco Lindor in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Next offering is in for a strike. Mauricio on second. Taylor at first one gone late that time it’s strike two just threw that fast ball by him elevated and if you’re not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity that ball is foul and the pressure is building here comes a 3-2 strike three got him with the back door breaking ball and the Padres’s manager making his way towards the mound as he will make the move. That does it for you Darvish. Gave him a good effort as he exits with a lead and we’ll have a new pitcher when we come back. Now pitching for out of the bullpen for the Padres’s Adrian Morome. And we all know about a slider. It’s just dopey, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rates very high and it just breaks a ton. Francisco Lindor up now for the Mets. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. Just missed. Well, don’t count. Look for him to be aggressive here. He got some runners on base. An opportunity to catch a mistake and put some runs up on the board. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even one one. That’s down and in. A slider missed. swings through that one out in front that time. Two. Two on, two outs. 3-2 now. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Two on, two outs. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Foul ball and it remains a full count. Knocks that one away and will do it again. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. About to see the 11th pitch of the ifab here. Swing and a miss. And that is that. So, a job well done from the Frier bullpen that time. Last half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Padres’s three and the Mets won. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. Stepping in for San Diego, Elias Diaz. That one finds a corner. Strike one. Stirring in the bullpen for the Mets. Shawn Maniah getting ready to go. Garrett the right-hander also getting loose. Foul ball. That missed by a lot. Going to count one and two. Swinging a ground ball and it goes just foul and a breaking ball misses outside. Well, he might have to look for a different putaway pitch right here too, too. He’s already seen the curve ball a couple of times in this at bat, so might have it timed up and ready for it. on the ground. McNeel gets it to first and that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth. The right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. Fernando Tatiz Jr. to hit here. Hole for two in this one. And that’s the inside edge. And that’s ball one. One ball, no strikes. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. line drive and that should be extra bases around first heading for two and he’s in with a stand up double. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump up. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. And here comes the Mets manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Number 50 out of the game and a decent effort considering he’s normally reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. Now pitching taking over on the mound for the Mets. Sean Mania. Still pretty early in the ball game. So this bullpen has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs. Kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. One out, runner at second. Luis Arise stands in. That’s outside. And that is ball one. One out, a runner at second. Last half of inning number five. That one missed now. A pop up on the infield. Lindor makes the grab and there’s two gone. Now batting the designated hitter, Manny Machado. Here’s Manny Machado. One for two. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. Man on second, two down. Fouled off down the right side. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. One left for San Diego and the score stays three to one. Top six. And now the right fielder, Juan Sodto. Yeah, that’s fouled off. comes up empty. It’s been tough for the offense so far, but you can’t get frustrated. You got to find a way to shake it off. Go up there and relax. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to put runs up on the board. Swaying at a ball popped in the air. That one gets down for a hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. You know what they say, he couldn’t have thrown it out there any better than that. And certainly the case that time. Just flared it back behind the second baseman and dropped it in there. And next will be the Mets cleanup hitter, Pete Alonzo. He’s already homerred here in this one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike with the tying run at the plate. And we’re the top half of the six. And now the count is even. And that’s downstairs and outside. Way to lay off that pitch down. Hit in the air right field. Tatis drifts towards it, brings it in. And there’s one away. So, up next for New York, Jeff McNeel. Jeff, you know, this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher. And what you tell yourself is, I want to stay square to the plate. Try to hit the ball over the shortstop’s head. The slider just misses. That pitch clips the outside corner and the count one and one. the other way and a base hit. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. Two on, one out. Brett Batty up now for the Mets. Not even close there. One and0 at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning ending double play boo. Two on, one out. Grounder might be two. Quickly to second for one over to first. Safe. Well, that’s great hustle out of the box to get down the line knowing that a double play will end the inning. Good job at the finish reaching out for the bag. Now they got runners on the corners and still an opportunity to pick up some runs. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Adrien Morah home won’t go any further tonight and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. So the Padres’s with a new arm on the mound. Jason Adams. He has a great slider with tons of movement. And now the catcher comes up to him. Francisco Alvarez. Alvarez. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. And that one fouled off. Two outs headed towards the corner and that is a foul ball. hit on the ground to the right side. Boots it, but they get the out at first and that’ll do it for the inner. No runs on two hits, no errors, and two men left stranded. To the bottom of the six we go. 456 coming up. It’s the Padres’s three and the Mets one. And we’re back. And now Jackson Merrill. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Ryan Stannic getting loose out there. Garrett also throwing. Next offering is fouled back. Ball. Ground ball left side and that’s just foul. Squeaks through that one. It’s a strike out. The batter number two. And here comes Sander Bogarts. Bogart. And first offering is fouled off. One down, base is empty. And a foul ball. Spoils a two strike pitch. And he’ll see another base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the sixth. And that one moves his feet. Hit in the air. Center field. Taylor moving under it. Two down. Now batting left fielder Gavin. So digging in Gavin Sheets. on the inside corner for a strike. Man, this guy’s got a great feel for his breaking ball today. And that one sliced fouled. Two down to got him. And it’s a three up, three down inning. We go to the top of the seventh. Here’s the third baseman, Ronnie Mauricio. Adam in his fifth season, 33 years old and he was a fifth round pick back in 2010. Action in the pen down there. Ron Marinacio, the young right-hander up and throwing. Estrada getting loose as well. No ball. Swang and a miss. One to count. Swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. What a big first out here in the seventh via the punch out. Yeah, it just does so much to change the outlook of an important inning like this when you got the leadoff hitter so critical in setting the table when you got a tight game like this. So, a strikeout really puts him on their heels. And next for the Mets, Tyrone Taylor. The walk and he’s also singled that one outside and it’s one and0. swing and a miss at a slider. One and one and he drops it down the third baseline. picks it up with a bare hand. Nicely done for the owl. Perhaps he rushed just a little bit. Didn’t set the angle as the infield’s back right there. And that’s pretty much a gimme for a blunt base hit. Just didn’t quite put it where he wanted to right there. Here’s Brandon NMO 0 for three in this one. And first off is fouled off. Two down, nobody on here in the top half of inning number seven. Not close with that one. And the count is one and one. Pulls that one foul. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. And they’ll do it again. The one two on the ground right side and foul ball. Almost got him. Straighten him up a little bit. Eighth pitch of the at coming up. That one misses and now three and two. Wow, this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. And that’s ball four. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Now pitching out of the bullpen for the Padres’s Jeremiah Estrada. These are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves. Late and close. There’s not much margin for error, but at the same time, there’s a reason they’re put in these situations. So, a man aboard and now the shorts stop, Francisco Lindor. Ball here. Rolls. Foul. NMO off of first with two away. swings and blasts one deep to left center. Back there onto the track and he makes the catch. No runs on no hits, no errors and one man left. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Padres’s three and the Mets won. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Reed Garrett, left-handed batter at the plate and he’s been excellent in those matchups this year. So this seems like a calculated move. So digging in the second base. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. One and0. That’s a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Swing and a miss. And he was fooled. That split is a pretty nasty pitch. explodes out of the hand. Looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center. NMO pulls it in and there’s one away. The third baseman number seven, Jose. Jose Glacier in And that’s downstairs. And that’s ball one. That one to first. And he handles it himself for the out. The catcher number 17, Elias Diaz. Two outs, space is empty. Next to hit, Elias Diaz. Hit on the ground to short. Lindor zips it across. That’s the third out. Back here at Petco Park, we’re in the top of the eighth and stepping in for New York, Juan Sodto. Sodto Texas swing appeal down to third. Didn’t go edge of the zone for a strike. And it’s one and one. Swang got a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance and it hits the fence and that’s a leadoff double. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. runner in scoring position. No outs. Digging in, Pete Alonzo. He’s already homerred in this game. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. with the tying run at the plate. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Swing and a highf fly ball. Well struck left field. It bangs off the Western Medal building and it’s gone. A home run. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. And we have a tie ball game. It’s 33. The brighter the lights, the more he shines. Yeah, this guy lives for big moments and right there made a statement big time. We take another look as Stackcast tells us that ball took off at 110 mph and plenty of distance as well. I mean, that was an impressive home run. Boog. He squared it up and knew it was gone. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Jeff McNeel up now for the Mets. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Can be tough to bounce back after big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning and fouled off. And a count one and two. and just misses with that one. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. And that one upstairs. Brett Batty in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Swing and a miss and he got him and that’s the first out. Nice recovery after giving up the homer. Well, that splitter out of the hand, it just sort of jumps on you and your interpretation is here comes a fast ball again. Well, it never really reaches because the bottom falls out of it and you swing over the top. And that’s why they call it a split finger fast ball because it looks like a four seamer. And now the Mets DH Brett Batty 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That one ripped but foul. and the swinging miss. Highf fly ball out to center field. Merrill pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there are two down. Here’s the catcher for the Mets, Francisco Alvarez. One for three. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. just missed. One ball, one strike and a swing and a miss there. One and two. Up the middle. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. The throw won’t get there in time. And they don’t get an out on the play. And the Padres’s manager making his way towards the mound as he will make the move. Jeremiah Estrada departs and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now pitching for So the Padres with a new arm on the mound. Ron Marinacio. This is his first appearance of the season. Now the third baseman, Ronnie Mauricio. Fast for a strike. There’s the strike. And a bat like this is almost over as it begins. In this situation, you have no idea what the next pitch is going to be. You just got to hope that you can make contact. That’s off the mark now. One and two. That’s a really good take. Missed with a change up. The countdown two and two. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first and a swing. And it is out number three. Mets add two runs on this blast. We’re tied now at three apiece. You’re dialed into the show. Back here in San Diego now it’s the right fielder Fernando Tatiz Jr. Garrett back to work. Swinging a foul out of play. Tatis waits. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Ryan Stannic, the veteran right-hander, appears to be loosening up. Brazabond also getting ready and a swing and a miss. He’s gone off speed. He needs to elevate here with two strikes out of the zone. That one just missing inside. And now two balls and two strikes. And the sweeper is off the plate. He’s really tightening up his hitting zone with two strikes here. I love it. Luis Aas in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. fouled off again and it remains three and two. It’s a lead off walk and that’s the go-ahead run. Oh, that’s a really dangerous base runner to put on first, especially in a tie game. Now, there might be some consequences coming from that mistake. Luis Aas the next to hit. Tatis runs. Pitch misses in. Safe at second. And that was not close. And the go-ahead run is now in scoring position. Check on the runner. Tatis dives back in. Boog. If you’re that base runner at second base, you want to be quiet out there. Not bouncing around. not distracting your teammate, the hitter. Make sure that he can clearly focus on that pitcher and that release point. Two balls, no strikes that count. Really been able to slow down the game tonight with his at bats and the biggest one he’s had so far. He doesn’t look anxious at all. Called strike right there. Well, it looks like he’s wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone. What does that mean? Top hand better be working for the hitters. Adjust that side a little bit. Give yourself a chance to hit. misses off the plate. Three and one. I just feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Manny Machado in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. That’s in there. And the count’s full. Got a full count. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field and it drops in. Tatis comes in to score and it’s an RBI single. They lead it in the eighth. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch run scoring it back. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. No outs. Runner at first. And now it’s Manny Machado. And that one fouled off in the dirt. One on, nobody out. A run in here near the bottom half of the eighth inning. And Manny gets a piece. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Alonso tossed to second. How about that double play? For me, that’s one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield. The first baseman has to get inside, create a throwing lane to hit that middle infielder to start the double play and then from there completing it back to first. Really good job all the way around. So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Jackson Merrill 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. That one back up the middle and it gets through and Xander Bogarts with a chance to make an impact with two away. Went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Let’s get the ball by the pitcher. There’s a lot of base hits up the middle. Even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Now, Xander Bogarts gets a chance to hit right through there for a strike. Breaking ball in there for a strike. Brown ball to the right side and it goes just fouled. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Third out and that ends the frame. But the RBI single pushes across a run. Last chance coming up here for the Mets. pitching back and on the mound the closer Robert Suarez. 29 saves on the season. So he’s looking for number 30 right here. He’s been big for him in the back of that bullpen. So digging in Tyrone Taylor. No, this guy a player that if he gets on base has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths. Just missed. That was absolute gas. Triple digits on the gun. It’s just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by. looking to get the tying run on base. And that’s way high. Two and one. Just this facing a closer that delivers big time velocity. Well, normally against a big arm with this kind of velocity, you look for the ball down because the fast ball up is a little hard to catch up to, but he’s shown really good play discipline by not offering at that last pitch down. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. They’re not ready to go home quite yet. Back to the top of the order now. Brandon NMO up now for the Mets. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. There’s a ball throw to second and he’s out. Such a quick and fast swing of emotions right there. You get the runner on with the walk, which is great, but then picks a bad pitch to go on and you just erase the free pass that you were issued. I understand you want to be aggressive. You want to try to get in the scoring position, but you just have to be a little smarter there. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. Fought off foul. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. And a ball evens a count. They tried to get him to go chase the pitch down and away, but he wouldn’t bite. And that is downstairs. And that’s ball three. Francisco Lindor in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here in the air. Right field. out number two. So they’re down to their final out. So up next for New York, Francisco Lindor and ball. That’s a ball. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. the 1-1 swing and a miss as he was late. It might be time to choke up a little bit, get that front foot down early, maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. One strike away. That’s too low. And the count’s even at two. That turns out to be a really good take right there. But you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. The two gets a check swing. Now it appear to third. Yes, he did. It’s ruled a swing and a strike out. And this ball game is over. He’s done it again, Bo. That’s his 30th save of the year as he puts another game to bed. Sweet dreams, everyone.
