  1. FOLLOW UP FROM PASSAN:

    > The A’s are receiving shortstop Leodalis De Vries, the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, along with three pitchers from San Diego for Mason Miller and J.P. Sears, sources tell ESPN.

  2. Feels like the first of many moves. Suarez maybe going to be leaving town?

  3. I hope there’s a third team involved and we get someone else cause that doesn’t seem fair 😭

  4. I feel like we easily could have gotten rooker in this deal,
I mean we gave up a top 3 prospect

  5. I obviously hate losing LDV but I’m going to wait until the dust settles. The day isn’t over yet, and right now we’re a better team than we were yesterday.

  6. Ugh seeing De Vries gone is rough…Does this mean Cease and Suarez could be gone today?

  7. Losing Leo fucking blows (for a reliever!), but I’m gonna reserve full judgment till after the deadline ends. This feels like one of multiple moves

  8. Two pitchers with 3 to 4 years of control that can help our team now. Yes it sucks, but if Miller converts to a starter….might be worth it in the long run

  9. There are some…knee jerk reactions on here.

You hoard prospects to make better trades to win now. The goal is win a championship somehow, not wait 4 years for a player to maybe be good

  10. I’ll hold judgment until the end of the day, but at the moment my stomach hurts. Funny enough but my bff giants fan just sent me a congratulatory text about it and my only thought was “yeah.” Doesn’t thrill me.

  11. If we win a world series because we now have the best bullpen in the league by far, I think I’ll be ok with this trade

  12. As the great philosopher Project Pat once Said,
Gotta take the good with the bad, smile with the sad. Love what you got and remember what you had.

  13. I was an Oakland fan. Miller was all we had that last year (plus Butler and Rooker).

He is a beast and I am very excited. This is a big deal, and I’m very excited. Losing De Vries sucks but that’s the price these days.

  14. I think the only way this trade is works out for us (besides the obvious WS win) is if Ruben Niebla can successfully make Miller into a starter again. He can be prime Jacob DeGrom as a starter for sure but durability is gonna be a huge question mark. Heck durability is gonna be a question mark for Miller even as a reliever. For now tho, I don’t feel so good

  15. We are only 4 games back from the best record in baseball. This is very much a move to contend this season.

    1) Move Morejon to CL and use Miller as late relief

    2) Trade Cease now that we have Sears. Similar performance but Sears makes about $13MM less and is also pre-arb

    3) Trade Suarez for prospects

  16. Honestly feels like the reverse of the Tatis trade. Except more like after Tatis was already at the top of the rankings.

  17. This might turn out to be an even crazier there-is-no-tomorrow trade deadline than keeping Soto, Snell, and Hader in 2023. And that one can be explained by doing everything possible to win a WS before Seidler died.

Anything short of getting to the WS and this is a bad trade.
