Was this juat a big farewell middle finger from Mozeilak? Several national articles I've read on this call it a fleecing or a major coup for New York. Keith Law called it a "fucking heist"

Have you seen him pitch this year? He is good but he hasn’t been automatic like last season. I think we got appropriate value but we won’t know for sure for a few seasons.
eh. he’s having a down year and there are 2 months left. i’m not sweating over it. tbh i’m just glad we made an effort to actually sell some relievers. I might be in the minority tho. idk
Yeah I guarantee the NYT hasn’t watched Hels pitch this year. Flyover teams never are paid much attention.
Meh. Any deal for prospects is always going to be a crapshoot. We will find out for sure in a few years. The Cardinals may have different (ie more optimistic) outlook in our return than the so called prospect prognosticators.
In the end we traded rental relievers and got young prospects that will be time and cost controlled for many years to come.
Also, Keith Law has always hated the Cardinals for some reason.
Not as good as his elite level best in 2024. Realistically, he’s a *good* 2 month rental piece, so it’s hard to imagine STL could’ve received WAY more for Ryan.
I’d say he got fleeced because he should have moved him last year or over the winter. They weren’t winning anything this season, and it’s not like Hels brought people to the ballpark on his own.
This org will fester in its own hubris until Mo’s last day in the office.
I mean, that’s not what the article says. It says the return was not great according to Law (who is one evaluator, other evaluators say it was a good deal). They should have traded him in the off season, that probably would have gotten a better return.
Can Keith say what the better package was? What team offered it?
A paper from the team that got a player saying they got the better deal? 😱
Remind me in 2 months when the Mets aren’t making sure he never pitches back to back days and only comes in when there is a save on the line.. Helsley is awesome, but he needs to be treated so particularly to be successful on paper. Idk if the Mets plan to treat him that way. He didn’t emerge as a badass until they coddled him to his specific specs. I wish him the best but I feel he might lack “that edge” that the best of the best have.
Well Keith Law is a complete imbecile so that doesn’t really sting that much
Yes. Bc we should’ve traded him last year. See Mason miller.
The consensus seems to be we got a good deal.
Keith Law is down on Baez. Others really like him. Every prospect ranking/evaluation is a crap shoot. Going by MLB prospect rankings the Cardinals added three prospects to their top 20. Which is probably also an indictment on our farm system. Specifically Baez at 6, Dohm at 15 and Jordan at 19. Yes Baez and Dohm are further away but it seems like we preferred higher ceiling but further away to lower ceiling but closer to the majors.
Opponents have hit his fastball hard this season, batting .406 and slugging .522 against it. He’s only signed for 2 more months and has been good but not elite. I think we got about what you would expect to be honest which is a top 10 organizational prospect and a couple lottery tickets.
