Lamar Jackson’s Field Vision Is Getting Even Better | Ravens Final Drive

[Music] Lamar Jackson has always dazzled fans with his highlight reel runs and offscript magic. But behind the explosive plays is a QB whose vision of the field is only getting better. He’s always had it that rare ability to scan the field, diagnose defenses in real time, and process at a lightning fast rate. But according to the offensive coaching staff, Jackson is now reaching a new level. Not just reacting, but reading, not just seeing, but understanding why. I think there’s a lot left there for him in terms of growth. Um, I think he sees the field better now than he did even two years ago. I can’t speak before then. I can just speak to uh how he sees the field uh based on what we’re doing offensively and um so and the players that we have and the system and um I really do I only think he’s he’s just getting started with his ability. He’s always had the ability as a playmaker and to run with the ball, but his ability as he’s improved greatly, which is a huge credit to him, in his ability to throw the football to win um at all times of the game really and in all phases of the game. Quarterback’s coach T. Martin echoed those thoughts, adding that while Jackson has always had exceptional vision, it’s his decisionmaking and eye discipline that have really taken the biggest leap. Yeah, I think he’s always had natural great field vision. Like Lamar can not only see things, but he can make calculations at a rate that’s almost inhuman, right? But now he’s putting his eyes in the right places and seeing the right things. I think that’s kind of how I can wrap that up, right? It’s uh what are you seeing and why, you know, why did you start here? You know, what did you see in that pressure that made you move the protection over there? What did you see in the run game that made you check that play? So, I think he’s always seen things well. He’s always had great feedback and information on the sideline during games. And sometimes he sees stuff that we don’t see until the next day when you’re watching tape, you’re like, how do you see that? And so, but he he’s gifted in that regard. Right now, I think with the experience in this system and how we do things and how people are going to work to defend him, you know, having his eyes in the right places for the right reasons is uh where he’s where he’s grown and where he’s doing a really good job right now. Experience in Monin system combined with an evolving understanding of how teams try to contain him is helping Jackson process faster and smarter. But don’t mistake his growth as a passer for any slowdown in athleticism. T Martin made it clear. Lamar Jackson, yeah, he’s still electric with the ball in his hands. All I can tell you is he is flying, you know. He took off yesterday in two-minute drill. I don’t know if he got touched, you know, and did a front flip in the end zone, all that kind of stuff. But no, he’s running really well. And I can really see in his foot quickness, you know, and all of our footwork drills that we’re doing uh in the quarterback room. uh his escapability in the pocket. You know, they can’t tackle him, but they’re they’re still not they’re still having a hard time touching him. In year three under Monin, the Ravens believe Lamar is playing the best football of his career. Not just because of what he can do, but because of what he can see.
