Jared Allen vs. the Single-Season Sack Record | Minnesota Vikings
[Music] [Applause] Please welcome to the field Jar Allen. 2011 was a crazy year, right? Hey, let’s turn it up a notch. Let’s go. The biggest thing between 11 and the rest of my career was I didn’t miss. Like I just wasn’t missing. Rivers back to pass on third down. He’s sacked by Jared Allen. Freeman will go down and it’s going to be Jared Allen. Once they come, they start coming in bunches. Staffford is hit and sacked by Jared Allen getting hit. Losing the ball. Nice job by Jared Allen. My race was the five. Once you get five, those second five are easy. Once you get 10, you pretty much got a Pro Bowl locked up. I feel the tackler but not this time. Welcome back to Kansas City. Back to goes down. and goes down and the arms of Jared Allen. And it’s just one of those things that just kind of kept happening. He had great matchups and Allen got it from behind. Next team out, dude, I was at 12. Pressure Allen again. I’m thinking, okay, I’m going to get up another sack title here. He’s hit and sacked by Jared Allen. Strawber trouble and goes all the way back to his own 42 yd line. And there’s Jared Allen. I only had the sack lead by like half a sack going into the last game. I was talking to Jay Glazer and he’s like, “Hey, we got Stray hands, you know, scared over here that you’re going to break a sack record.” I’m like, “That’s a weird thing to say cuz I need four. Four in a game.” That’s absurd. Play each and every one of you guys. On three. 1 2 3. The only thing standing between Jared Allen and the NFL sack record was me and my pride, I guess, because I did not want to be the guy that was always on the reel. I told my buddy, I was like, I’m either going to get shut out and have like the worst game of my life or I might break this thing. Like, I don’t know. It It could We’re playing the Bears. Like, it could get weird out here. God bless Fred Page because a lot of coaches in this time would say, you know, we’re three and 12. It’s about the team. It’s about the team. It’s about the team. He said to f with that we’re getting Jared the sack record of the 49 in trouble. Ball comes loose. So they brought the house all day. Greenway or one of the linebackers. He’s in the A gap and and he’s like right across. I’m under center. He’s like I’m just telling you we’re bringing it until he gets this record. We’re not stopping. We’re not stopping. Down goes for Cal. That’s a sack and a half for Allen today. And he reaches 20 for the season. And then they brought Dolman in, right? Because he might get the Viking sack record [Music] as Jared Allen ties Chris Dolman’s franchise record with 21 sacks in a season. I couldn’t really process like how many he was away, but they keep coming. The he steps up got him and there it is. 22 sacks. A new Minnesota Vikings record. Pleasure to be in your company. He’s got three sacks. And I don’t know if in at the time I was necessarily I knew I was getting sacked, but I don’t know if I was keeping up with like where he was with it. I can remember breaking out and running out to I think to my right. Yeah, I was chasing him out of bounds. Would have been no for him to slide, step out of bounds. Wouldn’t have been a big deal. And I can just hear him like screaming, try to get away. As he’s stepping, he just flips the ball forward, which I’m pretty sure is intentional grounding these days. I’m not sure. Incomplete pass, right? I see him all the time. I’m like, “Come on, dude.” I respect him as a competitor for for not doing it, but a little pissed cuz he should he should have given me that one. Wait, take care, man. Next time. I know. I was kind I wish he got the record just because of how he played, what he stands for, the type of dude he is, and the respect that the rest of the league has for him. Like, I wish he got that record. The reality is I hold the 23 sack record. It’s 23. Not TJ Watt at 22 and a half at 17 games and not Michael Strahan. It’s facts or facts. It’s on film. I sacked Aaron Rogers. They took it from me on Wednesday and called it a team sack. But if you go back to that Monday night football game, Aaron Rodgers got the ball, went to step up in the pocket, drops the ball, picks it back up. He can still throw the ball. I chase him down, tackle, sack. Give it to me. That’s two sacks for the game. Wednesday, they take it back, called it a muff, and gave it a team sack. Well, I’m part of the team. I’m the one that physically tackled them, so I should at least get half of that, right? But yeah, if you go back and look, I physically sacked Aaron Rogers for my 23rd, would have been my 23rd sack. I had 23 quarterback on the ground that year. Uh, and they took it from me. Hey Jared, it’s Aaron Rogers. You are the alltime single season sack lead. I don’t care what the numbers say because that phantom bull sack they took away from you would give you the record. So, in my book, and probably in most Vikings fans books, you’re the all-time single season sagling to my friend. Obviously, he’s going into the Hall of Fame regardless of of the record, right? That’s what’s really cool is this is his legacy is not just dependent on that one thing. It was bittersweet, but I think that’s kind of gives me like motivated me in my career. One thing I always try to do no matter what the season was is find something I can do better and use that as motivation for the next year.
Minnesota Vikings Legend Jared Allen recalls the 2011 NFL regular season where he chased the single-season sack record. The former defensive end is being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 in Canton, Ohio.

Jared Allen is the best dline of all time skol 💜💛
A head scratcher, for sure. I don't know how they come up with a 'team' sack on that Rodgers sack. NFL doing NFL things, I guess.
Ayy SKOL BABY!
Dude was robbed
Allen and Randle made football more fun. Not just because they were great, but their personalities is contagious and makes football that much better!
Also, Michael Strahan's title as season sack leader is tainted and deserves an asterisk. Brett Favre totally laid down to help Strahan get the record. Jared earned every sack legitimately, and by rights should be considered the record holder.
So fun to re-live the Jared Allen season 🤠
Not to mention that Michael Strahan's 2001 record included a play where he was credited with a sack even though the QB actually GAINED a half-yard (at about he 11-minute mark of their Week 8 game against the Cowboys).
Even Arod admits it
Vikings really do get screwed by the NFL a lot
Only time I liked Aaron Rodgers. 😂. I like how we owned up to that.
The league should go back & give him the sack that they took away.
Hold up hold up hold up hold tf up. They took that sack away from him!?!?!?! Yeah this isn’t bullshit. He ain’t lying. He’s the true record holder for single season sacks!!! Meanwhile they gave Michael Strahan that weak ass sack when BRETT Favre went jumping to the ground for him SMH
While it's a nice touch in the video (around 2:00), the Skol Chant did not exist in Vikings lore in 2011.
Crazy that Allen had that incredible season and we could still only go 3-13 with the team around him
Single season sack leader.Im glad I watched this,I never could stomach Strahans bogus record.Jared Allen deserves this title. The NFL needs to correct this.Even Rodgers agrees.
Youtube won't let me speak against it's blatant narrative…. dumb "notsees" 😏
1:40 – no buddy, there were a few guys standing between Allen and the record. Your o-line.
I liked Brad Childress to bad he couldn’t have a longer tenure
Love that the Vikings posted this
