TRADE ALERT: Yankees reportedly trade for Pirates closer David Bednar! 🚨

Yankees are finalizing the deal to acquire closer David Bednar from the Pirates. Sources telling Jeff and ESPN deal is pending medical review. JP Morosce, we talked about this earlier. You said it was close. There were talks. What do you know about it? This information obviously just coming in as we speak here, Maddie. And this is obviously a key area of need for the New York Yankees. They knew they wanted to add late inning leverage relief. And here they have someone who is again one of the best closers in Major League Baseball. I would expect and we’ll wait and see and and hear which Yankee prospects are going the other way. Again, as John talked about ear earlier today, this is not a scenario in which we would expect Spencer Jones to be involved here. So, let’s be clear about that. But I think in general this is going to be I think a fairly significant package of prospects going to the Pirates because of what the value is right now Matt for late inning relievers. The Pirates also by the way Bednar is not the only one they can move. Dennis Santana’s name has been very popular. They may also move an outfield bat in Tommy Fam for the third straight deadline that he’s probably going to get moved. So the Pirates busy and not done yet. Two-time all-star going to the Yankees. is a guy who a couple of years ago led the league in saves, did not have a very good 2024, but bounced back and is in the midst of a good 2025. JP, thanks for that. Boy, this is amazing. No fewer than four bonafide star closers have been traded in the last 48 hours. Yeah, it hasn’t been uh any anything of a surprise, I would think. Right. That’s what all these teams want. They want the last six outs of a game to be as shut down as you can get. I I love David Burner. I I think this is a great trade for the Yankees. They get a guy who, you know, former teammate can also go multiple innings that which is very key. He can pitch in the seventh, he can pitch in the eighth. We talk about these new guys coming into ball games and trying to get to know them. How long does it take you to get ready? Can you get ready in time? You know, when you only have eight, nine pitches. It doesn’t matter who’s who’s hitting. I think Boon’s got a guy that they can have in high leverage situation and be that kind of bridge guy to the rest of the guys. I I think this guy’s outstanding. He’s revamped himself. This guy’s got a good fast ball. He’s got a good cutter. He’s got a good curveball. I really really like this trade. Yeah. No, I’m I’m with you, Yor David Bedard. I I only heard wonderful things about him. Mark D. Rosa most recently had him in Team USA and just raved about him. Watching this comeback, it shows how mentally tough he is. This guy’s been in the ninth inning. He’s not going to be afraid of the big moment in New York. I like this move bolstering an already deep pin. This is now three guys with closing experience with Weaver and and Devin Williams to go along with Lewis, Tim Hill. The This is the Yankee. The Yankees have had a nice deadline. Ahmad Rosario and McMahon on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. And then agreed still adding to this pitching greed. Nice job. And keep in mind there’s the added benefit of an added year of control. So if they lose Williams, they lose Weaver to free agency at the end of the year, you have an in-house closer option on hand. So there’s ancillary benefit here. had been sent down, came back really good upon returning. And Jake, I agree with you. I think the Yankees have had kind of a sneaky, really nice deadline so far.

  25. FINALLY! A trade I can really stand behind. Now here’s hoping that the magic that keeps making bargain bin pitchers better when they come to the Yankees doesn’t do its Uno Reverse on Bednar like it did on Williams. And Chapman.

  29. Bednar for three prospects? I can’t stomach the Pirates anymore. I knew Cherington was going to do this…worthless is about the only word I can think of.
