Correa’s return to Houston and WILDEST moves of Trade Deadline! | Morning Lineup (MLB Daily Recap)

Here’s a, oh, this game is over. Yeah, ends it from the lb.com. This is the Morning Lineup podcast. I’m your host, Will leach this Friday, August 1st and the trade deadline pass at 6 p.m. eastern time on Thursday. And I gotta say they packed a whole bunch in. I’ve got a veritable cor copy of traits to fill you in on. I got to do so in under 10 minutes, players are hugging, traveling secretaries are furiously making flight plans. Clubhouse attendants are in there stitching new names on uniforms as fast as they can. It was deadline day. Uh Let’s dig into it all of it. Carlos Correa. Well, he’s been through a lot since he left the Astros the team. He won a World Series with not to mention notching a rookie of the year trophy, three all-star appearances and three postseason walk offs. Do you remember he’s signed the deal with the twins, opted out after one year, agreed to a deal with the Giants had the deal voided because of injury concerns, agreed to another deal with the Mets, had that deal voided because of those same injury concerns and Then went back to the twins anyway. So it was difficult to imagine Correa ever returning to Houston even as recently as Wednesday when he said potential talks weren’t quote serious. Well, it turned out they were pretty serious because Correo is an astro again, Houston in need of a third baseman after Isak K’s injury pulled off the biggest shocker of the deadline bringing Correa and the 92 million he’s owed over the next three seasons after this one. A portion of which the twins will be reportedly be picking up for minor leaguer matt Mikulski , who is likely going to be forever known for being the guy. The twins traded Carlos Correa for Correa had to waive his no trade clause to return to the Astros. But considering the Astros are in first place and the Twins, uh very much are not, it was perhaps not all that difficult of a decision. So Astros fans, have you still got your Correll one jersey hanging in your closet from 2021? Well, I hope it still fits, by the way, the Astros also got outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Marlins. If you want to wear his jersey. Astros fans, you’re gonna have to buy a new one pieces fit and the personalities in terms of like some, some guys that have been through the hunt before and if you’re going to win a championship, you can’t have really any weak las and that was kind of a focus for us over the last few weeks. The other big, huge crazy news on deadline day came from exactly the guy you expected would come from famously aggressive player, swapper AJ Preller, president and general manager of the San Diego Padres. Odds are three games behind the Dodgers in the NL West and firmly ensconced in the NLS third wild card spot. And for Preller, that means a big flashing green light. So he would cut the nuts on Thursday. Preller brought in six players on Thursday closer Mason Miller and lefty starter JP Sears from the A’s Destin hitter, Ryan o’hearn and outfielder Ramon Loo from the Orioles catcher Freddie Fermin from the Royals and infielder will Wagner from the Blue Jays. Now the hitters a yacht, they’re obviously a big deal, but the biggest eyebrow razor was the A’s trade considering it cost Preller the M LB pipeline overall. Number three prospect, short stop Leo devries. That’s insanely steep. Number three. But if the trade let’s get the Padres of the World Series for the first time this century and that’s clearly Preller plan as it always is, it will be absolutely worth it. You can also always count on the owner Steve Cohen, general manager David Stearns and the rest of the Mets to be active at the deadline as well. Even with their payroll, there’s always room for Jello on Thursday. They address their biggest needs , center field and the bullpen, the big name is the center fielder. Cedric Mullens is not an Oriole anymore. He’s a Met now, at least for the next couple of months till he hits free agency. Also a Met relievers, Tyler Rogers and Gregory soto the day after, of course, the Mets added two time all star Ryan Helsley. They should all be in uniform for Friday’s game against the Giants. I presume Mr Met will meet them as soon as they get off the plane and walk across the tarmac after the break. More trades. Also, they played three baseball games on Thursday. They only let players who were traded on Thursday be a part of those, the Yankees more than anything need aaron Judge to come back. But while they’re waiting, well , they’re not gonna turn down any bullpen help if they can get it and they got one of the best guys on Thursday. Bring in the Pirates, David Bednar who has rebounded from a rough 2024 to be excellent for the bucko this year. The Yankees win at the bullpen issues hard at the deadline. Also acquiring the Giants Camilo Duval and the Rockies jake by. They also traded for the Rays, jose Caballero, but he’s an infielder. He’s more of a run real fast guy than a pitch in the bullpen guy. The Astros and Mariners were both active enough that the Rangers who are fighting both of those teams for the postseason couldn’t exactly sit idly by. So they traded with the Diamondbacks for starter Merryl Kelly another veteran fellow for their rotation. They also traded for Cardinals reliever, Phil Meow, the twins, lefty Danny Cole, the Twins. They actually traded a lot of guys. All right, trade deadline. Roundup. Here we go. The Red Sox made their big trade back in June but a day after acquiring Steven Matz from the Cardinals, they traded for Dustin May who was about to lose his rotation spot with the Dodgers if he’s good and he doesn’t cut his hair. He could end up being a full hero at Fenway. It’s been more than a year since shane Beaver pitched in the majors, but what he does later this month, he’s gonna do it for the Blue Jays who got him from the guardian believer, Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France are headed north as well. All right, rapid fire Charlie Morton Kyle Finnigan, Paul Sewald and cody Heuer are headed to the Tigers. Harrison. Bader and matt Manning are headed to the Phillies. Willie Castro and Taylor Rogers are headed to the Cubs Shelby Miller and the still quite injured Jor Montgomery are headed to the Brewers, Miguel and Dear, he’s headed to the Reds. Griffin Jax is headed to the Rays, Roc Stewart and alex Cole head to the Dodgers Tosh Bradley and James man, they’re headed to the twins Adrian Hauser. He’s headed to the Rays, Oswald Perrada. He’s head to the Angels and who mike Astros and Bailey Folger are headed to the Royals with all that. I almost forgot the three actual baseball games played on Thursday. They are all on their feet inside T Mobile park for a Eugenio Suarez making his return to the Mariners. That was the T Mobile park crowd. Warmly welcoming back a Eugenio Suarez to Seattle for his first at bat since the Mars traded for him on Wednesday. He’d strike out in that first at bat but he doubled his excellent score. But the real highlight at bat came from the slugger who was already in town oh one fly ball. This carries back. It keeps carry back on the just over the that was Cal Riley finishing off July with his 42nd homer putting him on pace for 62 for the season. The Mariners beat the Rangers six to nothing and the vibes in Seattle right now are immaculate. There were two other games on Thursday in one of them. The Yankees got homers from Giancarlo Stan and Ben Rice to beat the Rays 7 to 4, bringing them within 3.5 games of the Blue Jays in the other one. The Braves and the Reds went into the top of the eighth inning, tied 33 before the Braves Then scored eight runs, which probably felt quite comforting at the time that is so in the bottom of the eighth, the Reds also scored eight runs only the third time in MLB history. Two teams scored eight runs or more in the same inning. The Braves ended up winning 12 to 11 in the 10th in the inning. That was much less exciting. On Saturday night, the Reds and the Braves are headed to Bristol Tennessee to play a game at the Bristol Motor Speedway. They have sold more than 85,000 tickets, which means it’s going to break the all time record for most human beings to ever watch a baseball game in person previously held at the Cleveland Stadium. Back in 19 54 there are going to be so many people there and I am actually going to be one of them. You can watch the historic evening unfold and look for me starting at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Fox broom, broom, baby. That’s all for today’s Morning Light Up podcast. Thank you for listening. Please be sure to give us a rating and review and tell everyone you know about this podcast. Anthony Kasowitz will be with you on Monday morning to recap all of these games with all of these players on all of their new teams. I shall return exactly one week next Friday morning.
