I’m Mike Fischer, your trusty and trusted reporter talking about your Dallas Cowboys, of course. Top 10 takes from Oxnard today. Uh, and a lot of good news here. One little one little minor scare and a lot of good news. Uh, and we will get to it all over the course of the evening. You get in, get on, be good. Bring something of intellect to the table. Um, that is a like a top seven rising number in the history of Substack. Uh, so thanks to you, it’s working and away we go. Item one, Lyall Collins is a really good idea. Lyall Collins try out a really good idea. Um, he wasn’t even in football last year. So, if you want to make the argument that he’s washed or washed, as some people say in some parts of the country, you can make that argument pending his workout. Let’s see what what uh Shotti, Clayton Adams, Coach Riley, and the scouting department, of course, led by Will Mcclelay. Let’s see what they think of it. I will tell you right now, I know one guy that’s in favor of it, Dak Prescott. old fishing buddies. Um, but pending his ability to play. And of course, you remember the research that they did uh back in the day. This goes back a decade now. We we did uh the 75 member staff, incredible research into the Cowboys research on Lyel. And if you don’t know the backstory, I’ll tell it here now. It’s it’s almost nasty. Yeah. Uh Jay Kelly hadn’t seen the field since 2022. Not quite true, but last year out of football before that on a practice squad in Buffalo, didn’t get to play. I mean, they’re going to find out at age 32 if he has anything left. So, he’s getting ready to enter the NFL draft. He’s going to be a first round pick. He’s a monster player at LSU. And the rumors start that he was involved in a murder murder of a girlfriend and diddly diddly dink. Yeah, no kidding. Very serious matter. And there really was a dead young woman. Well, some NFL teams said, “Uh, no thank you. Huh? said as as Jerry might have said, uh, El Paso. The Cowboys said, “Why don’t we go? Let’s go research this thing.” And you may know this about NFL teams. The Cowboys certainly true. Uh, certainly have this going for them over the course of their entire history. Really, they’ll do some research on you. Now, David Harmon, how do we find you on Substack? You can see the link right below. And so the Cowboys sent the equivalent of the CIA, the FBI, and the Green Beret to Louisiana to find out the real story. Now, B Teing has a good memory. Uncle Fish Premium. I have chronicled Lyall Collins’s time here in Dallas with some criticism because of his immaturity. immaturity that continued through the years, which most notably on this show basically came to be defined by he doesn’t pay his toll tag. Remember that, Marca? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He’s a guy making millions of dollars and he won’t pay his toll tag and he won’t pay the fines. He won’t pay didn’t pay his traffic tickets. And then of course infamously cuz he was in the drug program from the very start. He entered the league in the drug program. You got to go pee in a cup, right? Infamously, allegedly he tried to use somebody else’s urine. Then he tried to bribe the sample taker. That’s super NFL illegal. And that was part of his downfall really. Just goofball immaturity. But was he a talented guy? He was a talented guy. Did he murder somebody? No. He was he he did know the woman and knew her allegedly. How can I say this? Uh intimately. He knew the woman, but it wasn’t his girlfriend and he didn’t have anything to do with it. The Cowboys discovered that. So, they sign him as a UDFA. Jerry, if you’ll remember, brings him and his mom to Jerry’s mansion down in Highland Park and shows him shows him around and shows him the world that he’s about to enter because there was other teams that wanted to sign him, too. and he comes to the Cowboys and the rest was almost history because he was almost pretty good. Now, has he matured at age 32 realize you get one more crack at this? This is it. We’re we got a semi emergency here with no Tyler Gton for a month. Yes, I know yesterday we said that seventh round second round guy Nate Thomas. So, we really love him. But, you know, today we’re gonna we’re gonna take another peek at it. Um, I’m seeing a uh um not a trolly, what is that? What’s that called? U you know, Russian bot is typing in something about NFL full season. I I don’t know what I could do about that. I bet you Jim W right now is scrambling to get rid of all those. I don’t know how that works. It’s a great idea in terms of let’s have a workout. We have floated the idea BT of Will Hernandez. We’ve talked about that, too. Of course, Will Hernand is a guard, but Rob Jones is out for three months, so they need a backup guard, too. MP Collins would have been a top 10 pick. I believe that’s true had some people in the NFL not thought he was a murderer. Now, is he a little bit uh I mean, how do I put this sensitively? Does he have some social habits that you know your daughter might want to not bring home to mom? Yeah. Yeah, he has had some of that. You know, he was affiliated the situation in Louisiana with the woman who got murdered. He was affiliated, but he he didn’t do anything. Uh Clemente Collins moving a guard. He can play a guard or at least he could. Now, at 32, you get beat up, you get heavy, you get light, you’ve been around, you’ve had enough, you’ve made your money. Are are you still athletic? Are you still flexible? Can you still run? Can you still lift? Do you do you really want to? The Cowboys job is to find that out. And I give them a big thumbs up. Go find it out. Rex Level, Uncle Fish Premium, big rookie Nate needs needs a chance to prove himself. and he’ll get a chance. We got three preseason ga preseason games coming. We got plenty of practices and preseason games coming. His chance will be there. But right now, if you’re the Cowboys, I don’t really care about giving guys a chance. I’m trying to find people who can play. I don’t care if they’re 32 or 22. Doesn’t make any difference to me. Nimbus $10 pitch in the super champ super chat. Um I think Lyall has something left in the tank. I hope he kept himself in football shape. They will find that. They will find that out right away. People need to stop hanging on to the murder bit. It’s silly. I don’t know. Nimbus, frankly, I don’t know who else tells that story but me. Is that story everywhere? I don’t think that story because I’m telling you when he was coming out in the draft, I I I’ll promise you, nobody did that story like we did. Uh we had a lot of help. Brittney Mills was huh? Her name was Brittany Mills. Brittany Mills. Uh rest in peace. Lyall Collins knew her, but he didn’t do that. Uh, and Nebus, yeah, I disagree with you. I think it’s an important part of the Lyall Collins story. And I don’t know, Marcia, what do you say? Pregnant. She was pregnant at the time. Yeah. So, it’s a nasty deal. Uh, very sad. But the Cowboys and law enforcement eventually found out that Lyall Collins had nothing to do with that. I I never disagree with you. I think it’s a I think it’s a critical part of his story about how he got where he went. Uh I think it’s a credit to the Cowboys that they found out some truths uh and did so probably in cahoots with law enforcement as a matter of fact. And I would proudly say that that story isn’t universally silly because I don’t think that story is very universal. You get it here. Steve Gold, if he could be effective, wouldn’t he be signed today? completely valid. Let’s find out. Let’s find out. Item two, speaking of Dak, great reports on his work today. And it’s really hard. You’re looking at Twitter and you’re looking at a highlight going, “Hey, good throw. Look at Dak.” And it’s really hard to look at that one 15 second, 3 second tweet and go, “Oh, Dak’s having a good day.” But uh our our guys in Oxnard Dak’s best day today. Item three, pickings and lamb are cooking with Dak. There’s no question about that. Those of you who have a great affection for Tan Holden, he did it again today. He had two touchdowns the other day, of course, and big day today. the test on Tan Holden because I don’t know if there’s room at the end here. We see it every year. Every year a Cowboy wide receiver at training camp. We’re going wowzers and uh Matt Smelzer $2 pitch in. We’re going to get to more on the offensive line in a minute. Uh you’re you’re hearing good stuff on Nate Thomas and that’s cool. We’ll get there in a minute. Then we get to the games, the preseason games, and there’s a list. I I if if I go back, we could think with your help, we could think of 10 of these guys. Man, this guy can play. Then he goes and gets in a preseason game and all of a sudden, you know, he’s trying to catch a ball like this and he, you know, forgets that you have to have two feet in bounds and it’s it becomes a spit show. So, we’ll see. But Tan holding good day sidebar three and a half. Can you make Cavonte Turpin the number three receiver and let him be a real receiver? That’s a beard scratcher. Item four, offensive line as presently constructed with Nate Thomas involved looking like looking competent with one with one problem which is item five. And let’s call this a minor problem, shall we? Tyler Smith leaves practice. What? knee soreness. Uh the word is tendinitis there. So, nothing serious. Go get in the tub. Whatever it is you do for tendonitis, need a day, need a day off, take a day off, fine with me. Uh Santis Bosch thinks that Mingle looks like a number three receiver. And uh I appreciate his eye. I don’t know that he’s wrong. I will agree with him this much. The Cowboys would love to be proven right on their trade for the Mingo mystery. Uh, but I got to play the best guys. We know Tolbert ceiling. We don’t know Cavante ceiling and we barely know who Mingo is. Item six. uh these this linebacking group can either A really move or B has a knack for getting to the ball. You know, Shawn Lee could move pretty well, but even more than that, he had a he had a nap. He had a big football brain. And I’ll never forget the number of times when he said, “Fish, I appreciate you writing and talking about how smart I am, but every time you talk about how smart I am, it makes it seem like I’m not really a good football player, that I’m just a smart football player.” So, I’m careful there. But they they do look either fast or or um skilled in anticipation. and that collection of guys who’s done that and he’s been a guest on this show again uh in the last few days. Sugar’s friend Deone Clark, he gets to the ball now. I don’t know what I I don’t I don’t think he starts. I think they like Leo Follow as the third guy and he’s barely going to be on the field because you use two linebackers most of the time and that’s Murray and Sandborn. And then what happens when Overstone comes back? I think Deone Clark privately is probably wondering, I don’t am I gonna be a cowboy after this year? And my answer to him would be maybe not, but you will be an N Deone Clark’s going to be an NFL player for a while. And if it’s special teams this year, then that because that’s what it was last year. If it’s special teams, that’s great. He’ll be really good at it. He’ll go get some money and start somewhere next year. But for now, he is part of a group of linebackers. They really do fly around. Michael Evans, Scary Terry in Washington, just formerly requested a trade. He sure did. And so, just when you’re feeling bad about Micah, who otherwise we didn’t need to bring up, but we bring it up in this context. Just when you’re feeling a little nervous about Micah, Terry McLaren just told Washington, “Get me out of here. There’s a rumor that he wants 33 million APY. I think I think he’s terrific. I think that’s high. Maybe they do, too. But no, Michael, you’re not going to get him as a number three receiver. Now, let’s not stretch it. Uh, in fact, what’s going to happen is he’s trying to flex whatever muscles he has. They’re going to end up signing him, and it’s probably going to end up being $33 million APY. Item seven, rotation at guard. As we said the other, we predicted this the other day. Not hard to figure. Hoffman versus Bass rotating at guard when Tyler Smith goes out. And what we said was if you ever wanted to move Tyler Smith to left tackle, those two guys would fight it out at guard. And I do mean fight it. Those are two those are two scrappy, toughy kind of guys. You you will not get a lack of effort if you have to play Brock Hoffman or TJ Bash. If you have to play him, uh you will not you will not fail for lack of effort. Bo Arrow. I don’t know if your real name is Bo Arrow, but I I wish my name was Bo Arrow. Bo Arrow. B O no. Uh, turf toe is kind of like tendonitis. It’s no hot tub cure. All right. Well, then tell me more. How about time? We got a little time. Yeah, that’s a good observation. Steve Hoffman’s one of those guys who plays to the echo of the whistle. He He will hit you one more time. Bow arrow. Item eight. I think there’s a consensus now on Joe Milton. Number one, he is leap years ahead of what we ever saw on Tre Lance, which is wild. It It’s a reminder again to those of you those of you who pretend you’re scouts. I mean, or I mean those of you who are scouts and to the real scouts who continue to think that scouting is a science. It’s not a science because if it was a science, Trey Lance wouldn’t have been the third overall pick in a draft while Joe Milton was a sixrounder, right? It’s not a science. It’s an educated guess. Ghost Face, is Milton ahead of Will Greer? He is. And he’s good. I think that the Cowboys coaches when they sit down with Joe Milton at night say, “Okay, now listen. Athletically good. Back flip. Cool. Every every practice starts with a off the ground back flip. Fun. Cool. At 65 240. Arm and strength. Impressive. Mobility. All good. We got to get faster. Boom. Boom. Boom. We got to get faster. Boom. Boom. A lot of times we’re seeing Joe Milton run when I think the Cowboys coaches would prefer just boom boom and throw it. Something to work on. Item nine. a lot of your questions about running backs. You know, every day that you listen to Shottenheimr talk, Jaydon Blue sounds much closer to being the guy. Every day, they like him a little more every day. They say something nice about him every a little more every day. And then he does something a little more every day. As I said to you before, and I’m going to repeat this all the way till we get to September 4th. Rookie, fifthrounder, undersized. I’m making him the starter against the Eagles in the opener. I don’t know, but every day he’s inching there. X-Man is Milton as good as Cooper Rush in terms of his ability to go win a game today? No. Not today. Because you know exactly what Cooper Rush gives you. We don’t know what Joe Milton’s played one NFL game. We don’t know yet. Uh if if they had their brothers, you know, you know what?
