Devil Rays was a way cooler name
People are so unbelievably stupid Devil Rays was way better than the rays of sunshine. Probably some Neanderthal who wouldnt purchase a box of devils food cake

I’ve always thought the narrative that the team dropping “devil” from the name had nothing to do with pressure from religious groups and was based simply on (then relatively new ownership) wanting to make a marketing and branding break with an undeniably bad past. The whole religious aspect of it was rumor and urban legend. At least that’s how I’ve understood it.
