5 Minnesota Vikings Training Camp Stand Outs
[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? Firmly into week two of Minnesota Fighting Vikings training camp. And of course, you go down the entire roster, right? Jonathan Gard, Andrew Vano, Blake Cashman outside. How about that? Brian, the real deal, O’Neal, Matalis, Harrison Smith, like you can talk about everyone’s Oh, looking good, right? JJ McCarthy got some highs, got some lows, but going up against that defense every single day and no Jefferson and basically no Darasaw, no Fries, well in limited work with Elevens. You can talk about this all day, but want to talk about five uh training camp standouts. Now, I’m not saying that the five best players from training camp, just five players that make you raise an eyebrow or two and make you feel good about the season. First up, number one, running back Jordan Mason. So coming in from the 49ers, more bounce for the ounce. Uh former pride of Georgia Tech basically traded Ed Ingram for him, which is beautiful. And Mason, I you know, all the talk about this running running back field with uh Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason being like a 50/50 time share, I think it’s legit, right? So he’s got size, he’s got some power, he’s got he’s got some bounce, and I also got got some quickness and speed. And also the in terms of like soft skills like pass protection, catching out of the back field, he wasn’t really asked to do that much uh with the 49ers, but I feel like Kevin O’Connell talked about that uh Mason and Aaron Jones have some skill crossover. I feel like I feel like he is a complete back. He just has hasn’t gotten the opportunity uh in the NFL so far. and Mason like you know obviously the offense has been sort of helter skelter at times against this defense but I feel like you know Mason pretty much every practice he’s good for a really h nice run or two so I feel like the Vikings running game is going to be a hallmark of the offense early and often uh especially as uh McCarthy tries to build up rebuild up some chemistry with Jefferson Addison probably has his suspension so I think the run game is definitely going to lead things off for the Vikings early on the run game and defense like who are we in what what is this what what is this team now speaking of Addison Addison’s looked good so basically with Jefferson out he’s been the wide receiver one of the Vikings and he’s been getting wide receiver one attention but he’s still growing and showing and he’s still the chemistry between McCarthy and Addison is legit right and Addison he he’s so tough at the catch point which is amazing since he’s pretty slender you know he’s not he’s not very he’s not like a huge possession receiver uh but he he definitely makes the most of it and over the last couple offseasons he’s definitely put the work in. He’s added muscle and he’s very good at body control and adjustments at the catch point as well. I feel like that’s a really underrated aspect of his game and obviously McCarthy’s looking for him without Jefferson uh in there. So I think that yeah Addison certainly once he comes back from his suspension he’s going to be a man on fire. He’s going to look good. Also, Hawkins has been looking good, too. But like, like I said, you can name the entire roster, be like, “Oh, they’re looking good.” But, uh, next, Javon Hargrave. So, this is great. So, Allan Harrave along the defensive line, he’s going to be good. Now, Hargrave, you know, whether his time in Pittsburgh or with the Eagles or with the 49ers, like he’s been known as a disruptive pass rusher, right? So, a guy that you just toss him in there, blow up a gap, wreak some havoc, do that stuff. and they’ve been playing him at three tech, five tack as well as uh some nose tackle in in passing situations where I feel like Hargrave that might be his role, right? So, could we possibly see a diminished role of Harrison Phillips, especially on passing downs, put Hargrave in at the nose and then get Allen Hargrave and then someone like Redmond or T or LDR on the field? Yes, I I think that you certainly could, but Harrave, he’s just going hard in the paint, man. All right. And also there’s a couple reps where he just forklifted Ryan Kelly. And that’s hard to do because Ryan Kelly is not Garrett Bradberry. Let’s let’s talk about that first. But Hargrave, Grenard, Van Ginkle, Turner are some of the reasons why the offense has struggled at times. And the defense is just the defense is going to be so good this year. Can’t wait, man. Speaking of Diamond, Dallas Turner. So, put putting in the offseason work, hanging out with Jonathan Grard, uh, noticeably added some some good weight. And Turner, I feel like he’s a man on a mission this year, right? So, rookie season, all the haters and losers came out, hey, not doing what Jared Bur doing. Don’t care. Do not care. And Turner playing on the edge, playing offball, doing lots of things, and upfront with stunts and games. Like, he and Hargrave are already locked in. And I feel like it is a spot where you’re going to find a lot of packages where Van Genko, Gernard, and Turner are on the field at the same time, right? I feel like Florence is just going to work that out. And Turner, like we said, the more you can do, the more he can do. And eventually Turner will be the number one edge rusher on this team. But also, you in the back of your mind, you have to remember it’s like, hey, he can drop into coverage. Hey, he can do this. He can do that. So, I think that uh this is making him a well-rounded player. Yes, there was some growing pains, sure. But it’s just like JJ McCarthy. I mean, he came in as a 21-year-old rookie, needed to learn a lot very quickly, and now he’s absorbing it in year two. A little bit lighter moneywise, too. Yeah. Lastly, Jeff Akuda. Uh, uh, so Auda has been a great resurrection story, but also one that sort of flew under the radar because of all the other storylines. But you Akuda battling every single day with Addison and Naylor. Uh it’s definitely something that Well, first off, he was the number three overall pick. Yes. But that Achilles injury, especially as a corner, uh when when you’re cutting off it and you and pushing off it so often, like know there’s a reason why Akuda physically wasn’t the same the last couple years. But it seems like he’s good to go now. Uh but he’s got size. Uh he’s got length. He’s 6’2, 200. like he’s a large corner and I feel like the confidence is back, you know, and overall like the the entire confidence of the defense is there like Nud Mcloth getting all those interceptions u Matelis and company just talking endless amounts of ish to the offense in a good naturatured way you know what I mean uh and and Akuda Auda is definitely confident right and I do feel like it’s a spot where uh he is is securing that first team spot like it’ll be Rogers Auda and Murf like those are going to be your top three corners, Rogers and Murphy in base. But it’s a great story, right? And if he can pan out on some of that potential that he had as a number three overall pick by the Lions, the low energy Lions. Also, I can’t wait till the Lions are back to the Patricia era, which is basically coming up. Hey, 347. Get ready to see lots of scores like that. Uh, but honestly, if Akuna Kamelo come back here, I it would be great for the defense. And as we we’ve talked about before, like the quarterback room I have a lot of confidence in. Like Nud’s balling out. Blackman’s been looking good. Uh you know, Ro Rogers when he has been in there has been solid. Uh and Murf has been Murf, right? But if Akuda can get get back to where he wants to belong, not only did the Vikings have an improved pass rush, but on paper and on the field, they have a better quarterback room than even last year, right? So, I’m pretty excited. Again, are these the top five players in camp? Not necessarily, but just five that we wanted to talk about that are really showing up and showing out. And like we said, you you could you could do one of these on every single player on the damn roster. But overall, it’s just like Jordan Mason Mace in your face. Let’s go, man. Anyways, your thoughts, our thoughts. F five uh training camp standouts so far for the Minnesota Fine Vikings. Let us know your thoughts. Our thoughts comment section. You guys the best you to do. DT is about to be a star.
Wonderful Friday! SKOL! 🏈💜💛
Micah Parsons one time? lol
Okudah Matada😊
If the o-line and d-line can be awesome this year. then we gonna win.
Can you do one on bottom 5 so far?
I pray the offensive play calling gets better
As usual, great video
If our backup corners are future starters than we got a great group.
With this front 7, all Okudah has to be is equivalent to Tre Waynes. Nothing special, just present.
Rip KJ
Okuda is.the kind of CB the Vikes really need. His physicality will be needed when the Vikes face teams with big, physical receivers, e.g. AJ Brown.
Like Andy, I am really stoked about this year’s defence, which has the potential to be even better than last year’s very good unit!
In fact…given the increased speed & depth at CB, Dallas Turner being ready to take on a bigger role, and a much more disruptive D-line,..I fully expect that Flores will come up with a number of packages & looks the league has never seen or at least didn’t see last year. SKOL!
"what's going on Jeromes?" Best opening ever, gets me every time!
Best d-line since purple people eaters!
Do you see us resigning Okudah if he has a resurrection year?
Bebop & Rocksteady
