Forgotten Rams Rookie Looks Like A MASSIVE Steal
All right, let’s talk Los Angeles Rams. We’re in the thick of training camp. Starting to see what this team is going to look like for 2025. We’ve covered a lot of these young guys to new additions. Some early round selections, some undrafted free agents, some late round selections. And guess what, folks? The Rams have done it again with yet another late round gym. This in this in the form of a young playmaker that the Rams coaches and players are really high on. We’ll get to the latest with this young prospect, plus some great data as always on the other side. But first, I’m Nick. That is Andrew and this is Saturday Morning Inspection. All right, we’ve talked about the Los Angeles Rams a lot this off seasonason and all the way through many camps in training camp for the young guys they’ve added whether through the draft or undrafted free agents, whether it’s been Ferguson at tight end, Hunter at running back, Pu at linebacker, Dolak at linebacker, right? And and more guys than even that. We talked about the Rams finding great find after great find, whether through the draft or through the undrafted free agent process. And guess what? Turns out the Rams weren’t done. If you listen to recent reporting out of Los Angeles, when it comes to coach Laflur on the offensive side and wide receiver Dvonte Adams, they believe they got a seventh round steel and wide receiver Canada Mfield out of pit. Let’s pull up the article and then we’ll get to some very important data on the other side. Uh this is all courtesy of the Rams wire. Uh Mike Lafleur on Mfield. He just understands football. Lafleur said Wednesday. He understands stems. He understands angles. He has a great feel for space and a knack for space. His route tempo changes. He’s catching the ball great. He’s fearless in terms of going over the middle and stuff like that. Obviously, that’ll have to come to fruition when we get into real games when safeties and linebackers can actually light you up and stuff like that. I think from his college film and what I’ve seen from his demeanor, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem. Most importantly, he’s just fitting in with the guys. He’s very mature rookie. I am really excited about M. Obviously very high praise player from Lafleur talking about he understands the game, knows how to use routes, a very savvy player, right? I think that’s really important. Uh Dvonte Adams said him on Mumfield. I’ve seen stuff from even Canata since he’s been out here that’s opened my eyes. Not necessarily like, oh my god, I’ve never seen that. But it’s him changing up his pace and working through some things, seeing some of the errors and the trial and error. I guess I could say Adam said even over the course of three practice days how we can transform and go and kill some of our better corners on amazing routes. Great route runner. That’s always important. It’s fun for me just watching the growth of him, talking through it, seeing somebody fail, doing something a certain way, and then going out there and knocking out of the park. I feel like a proud dad watching him out there, right? So Mfield, what is he doing? He’s learning. He’s getting better. He’s figuring out how to adapt to the NFL game. And when you look at Canada Mumfield and you look at his numbers in college and the advanced analytics, nothing really jumps out at you, right? Nothing’s bad, but you can kind of look at it and see, okay, I can see why he’s a seventh round pick. There’s nothing really exciting, but when you take a deeper look, there are a few things that below the surface jump out. Let’s go ahead and go into our our tables here to highlight what I’m talking about. We pulled this from PFF. I’m going to go over the top one first. And you can just see there ordinary numbers, 50 catches, 40, 59, 60, AAN in 2021, right? Yards, 800, 500, 500, 700. Nothing spectacular, right? But notice on the far right column, what do you guys notice? yards per reception 24 15 16, right? Okay. But in 2023 it was 13. And in 2022 it was nine. In 2021 it was 11. Basically 12. His targets and receptions were about the same, but the yards per reception changed. That’s interesting. Let’s go down to our below graphic talking about where he lined up. The snaps he had at the slot position, percentage of snaps were at the slot position, the snaps he had out wide, and the percentage that were wide. You can see in 2024 he was 3762 slots out wide. In 2023, he was 76 to 24 slot out wide. In 2022, he was basically 50/50 slot out wide. And in 2021, he was 29 and 71 slot out wide. What do you notice in all of these numbers, guys, is that it keeps changing. Season to season, it keeps changing. Yards per reception, targets are consistent, but yards per reception changing dramatically season to season. You don’t see this. You talk about where he’s lining up season to season. Radical flips all the time. It’s all the way slot one way, 5050 the next, all the way slot all the way again and then back all the way wide his final season. This doesn’t happen, folks. What does this tell you? That he is the ultimate football player teamwide receiver. He does what’s best for the team and does it well. There are very few players, I want to reiterate this, even star players are ve sometimes very challenged to change up their game to do something they’re not good at. Right? If you’ve got a great 5050 ball wide receiver, allp pro kind of guy, right? win those jump balls and you say, “Listen, man. You’re great at 5050 balls. I want you to become a really good slot receiver, working those kind of routes.” Sometimes they can’t figure it out, right? Because they’re really good at one thing. They could be a superstar, but they can’t adapt their game. Mfield is adaptable. He’s like a chameleon. He changes his game by the year dramatically. Nobody I’ve seen in the draft class at the wide receiver position can do this. I guarantee you who would love this kid would be Bill Belichc if he was still coaching in the NFL because this is absolutely bonkers. season by season and sometime sometimes game by game he changes up completely the kind of player. One game he’s a vertical threat. The next game he’s a slot guy. The next game he’s more of a blocker and a decoy. And then the next game he’s back to being a vertical threat before finishing up with three straight slot games and then becoming a run blocker the se than the season finale. Right? He changes his style. He changes what he does every single game. He’s a completely different football player. He is so incredibly adaptable. And when you hear the floor talk about how smart he is. You hear Devonte Adams talking about how much he’s learning and how much he grows. You’re like, “Wow, this is a kid, especially when you look at his college data that can become whatever the Rams offense needs him to be.” That is the takeaway. The Rams have I’m not saying he’s going to be an allp pro or superstar. Maybe he could become it, but I think what he will be is whatever the Rams need him to be. The perfect jack of all trades. He’s not weapon X, he’s weapon J, right? He’s he’s not, right? He’s not this this super weapon to be used. He’s like a Swiss Army knife, right? Look, there’s a time for a nuclear warhead and there’s a time for Swiss Army knife. A guy like Devonte Adams in his prime, for example, Puka Nikua, they’re nuclear warheads. Guy like Kanana Mumfield, he’s a Swiss Army knife. And that’s still critically important for any offense in any football team. And the Rams are no different. And when you pull up our next graphic here highlighting the Rams data from 2024, you can see why. So, this is just evaluating offensive success. You have the EPA per rush on the x-axis. You have the EPA per drop back on the y-axis. So you can basically see what teams were successful in both. And if you’re good at running and throwing, you generally win. And you can see this across the National Football League. There are some aberrations. But if you look at the chart here, guys, you can see there’s basically three tiers working left to right. So you have sort of the bottom tier on the far left. You got that cluster about 10 teams. New England, Houston, Dallas, Pittsburgh, the Jets, Titans, Giants, Bears, right? That’s a cluster of teams I say, yeah, not not contenders, right? teams that maybe they make the playoffs because they had an easy schedule or got lucky, but they’re not serious title contenders or they’re bad teams. That’s tier one. And then you have the far right tier at the top of the screen, right? Far upper right quadrant. You can see the Ravens, the Lions, the Bills, the Eagles, the Commanders, right? The Buccaneers. These are the contenders, right? These are the teams that have a legitimate chance based on offensive success to win the whole darn thing. And these are the teams that did win the whole darn thing. If you look at the Philadelphia Eagles right there, and then you go to the middle tier, and this is where the Rams are. And I think this is where Shawn McVey is disappointed. The middle tier is they’re not terrible by any means, not at all. But they’re not championship level. And you can see the teams around them. You’ve got the M Vikings with Sam Donno last year. The Broncos with Bo Knicks, the Jaguars, the Colts, right? You have the Packers that are even above the Los Angeles Rams. The Chiefs are right at basically the same level as the Rams. And anyone who watched Kansas City last year will tell you they stunk offensively. They won on Mahomes Magic in the fourth quarter. Some questionable calls and great defense and special teams. Right? That’s where the Rams find themselves in. And they shouldn’t be offensively with the star power they have. Now, I understand they had injuries last season, but everybody had injuries at some level, right? No team was immaculately perfect. You would expect a Shawn McVey led offense with Matthew Stafford to be much better than middle tier. You’d expect it to be championship tier. And I guarantee you, one of the reasons why the Rams went out, added guys like Jarqu Hunter, they went out and got in Devonte Adams is because they need to go from tier two there in the middle to the upper right tier. And this is exactly where Mfield can help. He can be that Swiss Army knife, that jack of all trades that allows them to unleash what Devonte Adams, what Jarquest Hunter, what Karen will Kairen Williams, what what Ferguson, what they’re really good at, their great skill sets allow them to do their great things to elevate this offense while a guy like Mfield can do whatever is needed week in and week out. And that’s where it all comes together. And that’s why the Rams really love Mumfield. A lot of things to prove. still got to go through preseason, the rest of training camp, but right now it looks like the Rams have themselves one heck of a seventh round gem. All right, M. I knew we went through a lot of stuff there, a lot of data, a lot of charts, but look, I love charts on this channel. It’s what we talk about. But before I get it over to you, Rams fans, the Ramly, if you will, in the comment section below, we’re talking Canata Mfield being a seventh round selection. So, who in your opinion is the greatest seventh round pick in Rams history? This is kind of an interesting one. I honestly don’t know off the top of my head of any really stellar ones. I’m sure I’m forgetting a few of them, but I want to hear from you guys directly in the comment section below. Who is the greatest Ram seventh round pick of all time? Again, check it out. Link in the description box below. But Mice, let me turn it over to you now. Lord knows I’ve talked enough. What are your thoughts on Kanana Mfield and the Rams? Yeah, Nick, you you covered a lot for Mfield and I think you covered it very thoroughly. So, I’m But there’s one thing you say and it kind of aligns exactly with what I think of Canada Mumfield and what he could be for this team. So, I’m going to explain that a little bit. And you give the analogy of a Swiss Army knife guy. And you know, a lot of people use tools like that. My dayto-day, I use tools similar to that. I use a Leatherman knife. People might be familiar with it uh you know in in a lot in my day-to-day job. But the thing about a Leatherman is it’s a lot of tools in one. It might not it has screwdriver on it. Might not be the best screwdriver in all of the world, but is something that can get the job done really well and help you up. It has wire strippers. It has pliers. Might not be the best set of wire strippers or pliers, but it gets the job done. It has a knife. Has all of these things. They’re not necessarily the top. It’s not the number one thing you’d want in that situation, but it gets the job done. And there’s no other tool out there that can do all of those things at the same time and be very adaptable and be acceptable at all of them. So that’s where, you know, I I love your analogy of that. That’s how I see Canad. This is a guy that can fit in where you’re going to want a number one receiver. He’s probably not going to be the next Puka Nakua Cooper Cup type of guy like that where he’s the superstar of your team. But the way Kennado Mumpfield I think fits into this team is if you get, you know, the next big thing at receiver in their slot, he can bump out wide, he’ll be just fine. He’ll be very acceptable there. If you got, you know, the next great slot receiver or, you know, the next great out outside receiver, big uh time big play threat, he can slide inside to the slot. It’s not that big of a deal. He’s great at slot. He’s good enough to get the job done. He’s not going to lose you any games. This is going to be a guy who does really well at that. So, I see Mumfield in that aspect. And the way you describe it, I think really kind of coaleses. It aligns perfectly with that. That can Mumfield, he might not be, you know, the next great Rams wide receiver, uh, going to the Hall of Fame, being in your ring of honor, but he’s going to be really good at a lot of different things. He’s going to be able to move around and that’s what’s going to keep him on this team is that this is a guy wherever the Rams are weak, Kennady Munfield isn’t strong, but he isn’t weak either. He’s going to be able to slot in and be just fine at that spot. And that’s more valuable than I think people can think. Maybe you want, you know, the best pair of wire strippers. Maybe you want the best knife, the best screwdriver. But if you have one tool in your pocket that can fit all of those things, sometimes it’s better to have that than have that one singular thing in that moment in time.
The Los Angeles Rams have yet another rookie playmaker emerging. The LA Rams have themselves a jack of all trades that will be critical for them. The Los Angeles Rams seem to have an endless supply of rookie talent. Fans of the Los Angeles Rams should be excited by this news.

Konata is part of our future at the position. WR1 Puka… WR2 Jordan Whittington… WR3 Konata Mumfield. Devante Adam's contract was structure so that we could painlessly release him next year… on the other hand we could also keep him so his contract allows for maximum flexibility. Tutu was only signed for 1-year so this season is an open tryout for him to impress the rest of the league and sign his long term big money contract next offseason. So our future at the position is really Puka & Whittington out wide, & Mumfield in the slot. This likely will happen for the 2026 season or if they decide to keep Devante another season than 2027 at the latest.
And another one!🐏 🏠
Man imagine if the rams wins a Super Bowl with many 6th and 7th round stars, undrafted players and types like that? That would be legendary
Rams house
Konata has always reminded me of Brandon Lloyd with his body control & I think he’s gonna contribute big time if he gets playtime
I would say, puka is the Rams greatest seventh round draft pick ever
Rams need to go get Parson. Him and verse and u r looking at multiple super bowls.
Excellent analysis of KM. I hope he gets to show us his game. There are a lot of players ahead of him. We cannot forget about Jordan W. He is a Sixth round pick
Current best 7th is P Ethan Evan’s
I always enjoy your Rams breakdowns. Keep it up
I can't remember the best 7th round pick but I think Mumpfield will get better and better and eventually replace TU TU.
Mumpfield will move the chains
London Fletcher Best 7th rounder drafted.
