MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Oakland Athletics – Aug 1, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Hello baseball fans and welcome inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks taking on the Athletics. First pitch coming your way next. Welcome your athletics. So just about set now and on the hill JP Sears. Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters, not nibble, trust that his stuff can have late life and miss barrels of bats. This is Corbin Carol. And that’s outside. And we are underway. No strikes. and he grounds one to the right side, whips it to first and an easy out to start the game. Now the Diamondbacks lineup as put together by Tory Lavell. This team can really pile up the runs, Chris. They’re among the top teams in scoring this year. Yeah, and when you can get a lead and be out in front, it really changes what that opposing manager can do with the bullpen. And on top of that, it helps your own pitching staff. It gives them more margin for error. So instead of pitchers squeezing the ball, trying to throw darts and be perfect, they can relax, let the ball come out of their hands, and pitch effectively. So that offense and the ability to score runs also helps the pitching and the defense. Come on. Not close with that one. And it’s a ball and a strike. And that’s in the dirt. One out. Base is empty. Next pitch is outside. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. One down, base is empty. And there’s a foul ball. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Batty third. Short stop. Heraldo. Next hit for Arizona. Heraldo Purdomo. In there for a strike at the top of the zone. Baby one. Rudder takes off. Foul ball there. Marte stands at first with one out. And that’s outside. I don’t think he was trying to miss by that much in 02 count. Just try to overthrow that Line drive. Sodra puts it away for the out. That’s out number two. Batting fourth. Third baseman Auhaneo Suarez. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. Another solid power season. He swings and fouls one off. Suarez working on a massive campaign right now. Putting up some big home run numbers. That one ripped and it one hops the wall. Here comes Marte around third. He’ll score easily. Everything came together for him. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. So runner at second, two down. Adrien Del Castillo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one. Runner at second. Two down. Fouled off left side. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Swings and misses. Struck him out. They get a run on two hits, no errors, and a man left. Bottom half of inning number one coming up. It’s the Diamondbacks one and the A’s nothing. Back here with my pal Singi and towing the slab in this one, Eduardo Rodriguez. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club and coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. And now the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. Yeah, that’s fouled off. This is a hitter who takes his game to another level playing at night. Next pitch is downstairs. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Gets off a throw. Save. It was never going to be easy after the misplay. Lead off man aboard on the error and that puts your pitcher in a little bit of a tough spot right away to start the inning. Not where you want to be. So, we’ll see if he’s able to work around it and pick the defense up. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. He’s been tearing it up at the plate recently. Batting average this month over 4001 now inside just missed. I think it’s very important to establish the inside part of the plate early. Sets the tone for the rest of the game. Rudder at first with no outs here. That misses the zone and it’s two and one. Right through there for a strike. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. That one fouled hard the other way. swings and misses. 0 and two. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. Gets a piece and stays alive. And there’s that one deep left field and forget it. He sends it out of here. His 22nd homer of the year. It’s 2-1. Looks like this guy was looking out over the plate, but he was ready to turn on the inside faster. Fast ball so direct to the pitch. Absolutely blasted out of this ballpark. Base is empty, one away. And now here’s the A’s catcher Shay Langalers on the ground. Suarez throws to first in time. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. Finding themselves down a run early. They like to punch back here with a run of their own. Absolutely, Boo. But I don’t expect them to change their approach because of that run. They still want to put together strong at bats. Be patient out there and get a feel for this starting pitcher. Two down, base is empty. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. Just missed. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, you had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Two outs and it’s foul away. And that one is downstairs. You’re down two balls and two strikes. got him swinging. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. The A’s with a two-run blast as the A’s are on top. All set for the start of the inning. Here’s Lordis Guriel Junis. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. Sears back to work. Guriel getting to start in left, batting sixth in today’s lineup. And he was born in Cuba. That one finds the zone and it’s one and one. One. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. The 1-1 is fouled off. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field. That’s back and that one’s gone. And that should quiet this home crowd. His 13th home run of the season. And this game is tied. It’s 2-2. So frustrating for any pitcher. Finished outside the zone and he still managed to get punished with a home run. Man, he just barely got that one out of here. And you got to love the effort and left to try and bring it back. He had a good shot at it. Just couldn’t quite pull it off. It would have been a stunner if he did. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Tristan English. One ball, no strike. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the top of the second. Next offering is in for a strike. Ball two. Two balls, one strike. right through there for a strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Tied up here in the early going. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Well, he hadn’t seen that change up the entire bat until that putaway pitch. And it’s pretty tough to deal with as a hitter. You’re up there battling, trying to read and react with two strikes, and then all of a sudden the pitch comes out of nowhere and it’s a good change up. It’s just almost impossible to hit it when you haven’t seen it. Alec Thomas now close rule the ball. One and0. One down. Base is empty. Popped up. Foul territory behind the plate. Two away now. Batting ninth. Catcher Jose Herrera. Here’s the catcher, Jose Herrera. And the first pitch misses for ball one. 10. That one missed. Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Well, I would expect in this three 0 count you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. And that’s ball four. Take your base. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire bat. Corbin Carroll stands in now for the Diamondbacks. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offense aside for just a second. Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Pitch misses and that’s ball one. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat, automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, and he makes the catch. And that’ll do it. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. And we’re deadlock now at two apiece. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the third base and Miguel and Miguel. Fast for a strike. fall off foul. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Quick three pitch strike out. And you look at the sequence. The plan was clearly to work him inside. Didn’t want to let him get his arms extended, make him a little bit uncomfortable in there. and he ended up overmatching him in the process. That’s one you have to take note of as a hitter for next time you come to the plate. So, up next, Carlos Cortez and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Ball one strike. Just missed. One ball, one strike. Cut on and lifted in the air. And that drops foul. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Backto back strikeouts to start the frame and that’s now three in a row. Yeah, he’s really settling in and getting a feel for his pitches, throwing them where he wants to right now. So, we’ll see how long he can keep this streak going. Max Schuman up next for the A’s. That one catches the zone and it’s 0 and one. Two out. Space is empty. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Ball two. And a fast ball in there for a strike at 91. make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. Nothing doing there for the A’s. Score remains 2-2. Out of the third inning, that outstanding hitter in Catel Marte. Marte first pitch doesn’t find the zone and another ball. Smoked on the ground to second to first in time. One up, one down. Now batting shortstop Heraldo Peromo. Now Heraldo Peromo 0 for one so far. Right through there for a strike. The shorts stop takes a ball. One-1. Next offering is in for a strike. Good eye on that spot. Really good take especially with two strikes. Battling here as he fouls it away. him out. Next pitch is outside. Fights it off. He’ll see another stays alive. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do nextunch out towards right center field. He won’t get there. That should be extra bases. And that’s a double. Just a great at bat right there. Saw a lot of pitches. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. Hey, Suarez up to hit now. Doubled in his first AB. And that drops in for a strike. No ball. One strike. man at second and a foul ball. Off the mark there. One and two to count. and misses inside. Still two and two after the foul ball. Kick sand and deals. Full count. swings through and that’s strike out number 100 on the year. You usually are going to see that inside fast a little longer coming in from the opposite side, but that pitch really got in on him right there. That’s a well thrown pitch. Tough to do anything with that in terms of getting the hands through and the sweet spot of the bat to the baseball. And now here is Adrien Del Castillo. Two outs and one in scoring position. Next pitch misses way outside. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Swing and a miss. Now one and two. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. No runs, one hit, a double, no errors, and one man left. We head now to the home half of inning number three. We are tied 2-2. And we’re back. Here’s Luis Aras. How about this one? In 2023, Aras hit grand slams for Boston in backto back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. Whips it across. Going up, one down. Now batting center fielder Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. He’s 0 for one. Go, baby. Let’s go. And that’s in for a strike. 0 and one. Swing and a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now batting first base up next for the A’s. His first at bat was a strikeout. Just missed. Butler at first. One gone. Ground ball up the middle, lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. There’s one. That they weren’t overzealous there. Just take the shirt out. Keep the runner out of scoring position. Brent Rooker. And here is Brent Rooker. He’s already homered here in this one. Taking high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. Next pitch is outside. And there’s a ball. 2-1. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. Caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on. First and second, two outs. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. He’s 0 for one. And that one is lifted in the air. No one can get there. It falls in. One runs in. Rooker headed to the plate. In to score from first and they lead by two. Picks himself up a couple of ribbies. Anytime you can drive a ball into the gap the other way, it feels so good. And that’s when you know you’re right where you need to be at the plate. It’s even better when it gets you extra bases. Got to love looking in at your dugout and seeing your teammates fired up. Next up for the A’s, Tyler Soderstroke struck out swinging his first time. That one misses and that’s ball one. in the dirt. Man on second, two down. Right through there for a strike. Two balls, one strike. Basketball is outside. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter count. Miguel Anduhar in the on deck circle for the A’s. Swing and a miss and it’s three and two. Runner at second, two down here in the last half of the third. So now two on and two outs. So close to getting out of it right there, but this inning still has life. Here’s Miguel and Duhar went down on strikes his first time through Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. That’s outside two and0 singy. One of the things that’s interesting is that guys really don’t worry about swing and miss from an offensive standpoint anymore. So when you see somebody who contacts the ball like this, do you think of that as plus value? Absolutely. If he’s doing damage now, if he’s rolling over and and grounding out, then it’s a different story. But yeah, if he can put the ball in the gaps or over the fence, 100%. And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get throws the first in time. That ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now 42. Major League Baseball is on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Lordis Goreel Jr. Let’s go to baby. Let’s go. Come on. There’s a swing and a drive. Hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double. That ball exploded off his bat and off the warning track as well as it bounced over the fence. It sounded really good, too. He just put together a really nice swing and just missed a home run. Runner in scoring position, no outs. And here’s the first baseman, Tristan English. And that drops in for a strike. 01, baby. Let’s go. Ball squirts away a little bit. Guriel stands at second with no outs. Had a swing and a miss. feed him with a fast. Up next, now up next for Arizona, Alec Thomas. He popped out his first time. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate. It’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Swing and a miss. Strike one. In the on deck circle, you really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball. Last thing you want to do is miss a good hitable fast ball early in the count. So, manage scoring position and now the tying run comes to the plate. Top half of inning number four. Swinging a foul straight back. That one outside and it’s two and two. Really nice two strike pitch right there. Very tempting but couldn’t get the chase. Strike three and that’s two in a row. So backto back strikeouts now and they still haven’t managed to do anything with the leadoff double. Yeah, you just don’t want to get careless here. You’ve done a really good job to get two outs after that lead off double as you mentioned and just got to execute your pitches and it’s a non-issue. Now the Dback’s catcher, Jose Herrera. He reached out to walk his first time. This one in the air. Kurts sizing this one up. And that is that. A double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Athletics four and the Diamondbacks two. Bottom of the fourth and the batter now Carlos Cortez right fielder Carlos Cortez swing and a miss and that is strike one. You know these athletics showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. pitch count is pretty high and they played four runs already. So, I think it’s safe to say their game plan is working out pretty well right now. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and that’s sixks for him in this one. Well, that’s the money maker right there. Two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter. I mean, that’s just tough. You’re looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off. Schuman stands in now and watches strike one. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Just missed. One ball, one strike. The one-two the shorts stop takes a ball and a foul ball. He stays alive. One down. Base is empty on the ground right side. It’s in and out of his glove. He can’t flip it to the pitcher in time. And they come away without an out for the A’s. Second base. Now it’s the second base. Luis Rias grounded out his first time up. Check swing called strike. It’s 0 and one. One strike. Schuman leads off first with one away. Andy O2 got him looking. Picks up strike out number seven. Wow, that’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call. So hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can. And now Lawrence Butler. Two outs. That one misses and it’s 2 and 0. That’s a ball. Three ball. No strike. And ball four to a board. Not what he wanted to do right there. Boo. That keeps this inning alive. Puts a runner in scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. First and second, two outs. Now the number two hitter, Nick Curts. Fast ball for a strike. If he can get through this one, put up a zero. This will help in his outings to come. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. The A is looking to add another. Foul ball still 0 and two. One, two. Inside just missed. cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. A strand a couple as they can’t add to their 4-2 lead. New inning getting started now. It’s the right fielder Corbin Carroll. Carol in his third season, 24 years old, a former first round pick back in 2019. And there’s the strike. You know, these Dbacks finding ways to get on base, but they still need help driving them home. They’ve had their chances with runners in scoring position, but nobody’s been able to deliver a big hit in those situations. Athletic one fouled off. He was late. And you got to give some credit to the other side as well. They’ve been able to get out of a few tough jams, but frustration is mounting for this offense. No doubt. That missed by a lot. Now one and two. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Come on. On the ground to the left and that’s just foul. Strike him out. That misses and it’s two and two. That one the other way. slings to first and the lead off hitter retired in the fifth. Marte up to the plate. Singled and scored back in the first. He’s one for two. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Check swing called strike. No ball. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. And ball one. slaying and a miss. Struck him out. Make it seven strikeouts for him. Up next for the Here’s the short stop at the plate. Heraldo Pomo one for two. And that one fouled off. Two down. Nobody on now. Will bullet to second base, but he’s got it to end the inning. And the Diamondbacks down in order. Still down by a count of four to two. now pitching for back now to start the bottom of the fifth. Taking over on the mound, Anthony Dclani just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Brent Rooker getting ready to hit. He’s already homered in this game. Hitter Brent Rooker. Nice grab to first. It’s there and that’s a great play. Really nice job to get your first out of the ball game. The catcher, Shay Langalers. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Shay Langalers, known for his rocket arm behind the plate. And first off is fouled off. swinging a ground ball. English takes it to the bag. Two up, two down. Good armside run to that same side hitter right there. Very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through. It just pours in on the hands. Two outs. Base is empty. Tyler Soderstrom up next for the A’s. He is struck out and he is walked. checks his swing. Appeal to third and that’s going to be ruled a swing that misses the zone and the count even one and one. That’s a really good take right there. slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Guriel handles the chance. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher, Elvis Alvarado. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Now here’s the cleanup hitter for Arizona AU Suarez. Elvis right through there for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. That one is absolutely belted. Dives, but it falls. And now it looks like extra bases. He’s in with a double. And that’s his second double of the night. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Really turned on that one down the line. That’s a spot where there’s pretty much never going to be a defender, even with the shift off. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Adrien Del Castillo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. First pitch misses. to go. Two. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. That’s a slider for a strike with the tying run at the plate. And we’re the top half of the six. Next offering is fouled back. 2-2 now. Fouls that off to the left and we’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. I want to start that load a little bit sooner because of the good VLOO. Cap dances out of the way of that one. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches. still able to make some type of contact in the air left field. Soderstrom makes the play and there’s one away. Now batting left fielder Lordis Griel Jr. And it’s Lordis Goreel Jr. Hitter’s got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. The 10 little bit low that catches the top part of the zone and a count two and one. Just missed. And now the C filled up three and two. Cold night like tonight. Last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end. Trying to find that sweet spot on the bat. Tell you what, you’re going to be trying to catch things out front. So off speed pitches may be a good compliment to that fast ball. Oh, he took his chances getting him to chase right there. But with first base open, walk not a bad thing. He set up a double play opportunity if he can induce a ground ball. English up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one. Next offering is down low. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Runners at first and second with one gone and that one fouled off. Got the dish looking to look the ball in the air in this spot. Anything but the inning inning double play boo. And that’s downstairs and outside. Way to lay off that pitch down. Alec Thomas in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Yeah, big swing and a miss. Maybe a two ball. Five. They put the tag on him and that’s two. One hit, one left. 6782 in the bottom of the six. It’s the Athletics four and the Diamondbacks two. And we’re back. Well, we go bottom six now. The third baseman Miguel Anduhar Dclani back to work and first offering is fouled off. And there’s a foul ball on the ground right side. Marte to first. One away. Bottom of the six. Up next for the A’s, right fielder Carlos. And now the right fielder Carlos Cortez. bowl for two in this one. And there’s a breaking ball that drops in there. Dfani, a guy that features an absolute power slider, throws that pitch a lot. He throws it hard and gets a ton of swings and misses. right side. Marte tosses to first. Two up, two down. And I think being able to expand with that pitch as you start to offer at it that he can move it just a little bit further away. Before you know it, you’re trying to hit a pitch that’s off the plate. Two down, base is empty, and the batter will be the shortstop. Max Schuman up the middle. Marte. The A’s go quietly. A’s go quickly and quietly there, but they still lead this one four-2. Now, PG, welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Justin Sterner. Justin. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. At the plate, Alec Thomas, centerfielder, Alec Thomas. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. No ball. One strike. And the curve is down and in. Go, baby. Let’s go. Bounce to Anduhar. Fires across the diamond. That’s the first out in the top of the seventh. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks, partner. Jose Herrera digs in now and a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Jacob Lopez up and throwing. Number 49, a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Next offering is fouled back. Base is empty, one away here in the top half of inning number seven. Now a fly ball to right center. Butler heading to the alley. Makes the grab on the run. And there are two outs. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Carol in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Just missed. back-to-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Next offering is fouled back. Catel Marte hoping for a chance. He would represent the tying run. Yeah, Boo. Plenty of power in that bat. They’d love to give him a shot here. Two outs and they’ll do it again. slashes this one and it could be trouble and that’s going to kick into the corner. Makes the turn and heads for second and he’s in there standing up with a two out double. All over that one right there. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. Now, a huge at bat in this game coming up. Here’s Catel Marte, one for three. That’s off the inside corner. And it’s one and0. As a pitcher, you know, the runner on second is ready to push things with this speed. A base hit. It’s probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. Tying run at the plate. Highfly ball out towards left center. Sodestrom on his way over. He’s got it. And that’s the third out. One left for Arizona. They trail it here. Four to two. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Number 27. Power slider guy. He throws it hard and gets a lot of late movement. So, it’s tough to pick up. Here’s the second base. Luis Ras went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. That misses the zone. Ball one. Activity in the Arizona bullpen. Jake Woodford up and throwing for manager Tory Lavello. And that one a little below the knees. And that’s ball two. Let’s go. Go, baby. Let’s go. In the air, right field. Carol moving under it. Carous it. And a quick out. Number one. Now betting the center fielder, Lawrence Butler. Lawrence Butler up next for the A’s. Just off the outside edge and that is ball one. A swing and a miss as he chases way out of the zone. misses inside and it’s two and one. Two balls, one strike. And that one hit to first and he can’t come up with it. And it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. First baseman, Nick Curts. Two outs, base is empty. And now the first baseman, Nick Curts, 0 for three in this one. And the slider just misses. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Check swing called strike. And the count one and one. pulled hard but it’s a foul ball. Two down. Nobody on the ground to third. Suarez throw to first in time. That’s the third out. Inning over. Now pitching. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eight number 49. Well, you see the erra very solid and that doesn’t always tell you the whole story, but he’s been really good so far this year. Heraldo Purdomo now at the plate. Clips the corner and that’s strike one. Some hitters are just more confident if they can track that first pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. They don’t care if they fall behind 01. Here comes the 01 swing and a highf fly ball out towards right center field. And there’s one down. Every day during batting practice, these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly. Next to hit for Arizona Aueno Suarez swinging a foul out of play. One down. Base is empty. two. That misses and a count one and two. One ball, two strikes. That’s down and in. The A’s up by two and we’re in the top of the eighth. That just misses. Counts full. Three and two. Caught a break right there. Pretty good pitch on the outside corner. This one popped up. Schuman. Two away. Man, he just couldn’t lay off right there. Those high fast balls, they just look really good because they’re eye level, but they’re just about impossible to get the barrel to. Two down, base is empty. So, next is the designated hitter for the Dbacks, Adrien Del Castillo. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out. Edge of the zone for a strike 0 and one. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. He doesn’t seem to like to pitch up. Hasn’t offered on either one of those pitches. 02 count now. I think the guy’s going to climb the ladder out there. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. makes the grab and that is that back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Jake Wood. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Now the A’s designated hitter Brent designated hitter Woodford the tall righty 28 years old and he was a second round pick back in 2015. first offering and it just misses and a base hit up the middle and the leadoff man aboard now batting next to hit Jay Langalers Langalers Not even close there. Ball one. Grounder might be two. Over to Pertomo. That’s one. Back to first. And that is a double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. So digging in Tyler Soderstrom and that misses. And that’s ball one. Strike one. ball. That one fouled off. Two and two. Two outs. That one not close. Three and two now. Rip to short on to first and that’ll do it. Now pitching for now. And on the mound the closer Mason Miller. He has a great slider with tons of movement. Leading off for the Diamondbacks, left fielder Lordis Griel Jr. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Pitch misses there and the count is 2 and0. Wow, triple digits on the gun. I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past, but it’s still impressive to watch. Close one. Doesn’t get the call and that’s ball three. fast for a strike. Fouls one away and now three and two. Fouls it back with two strikes. Foul ball and it remains a full count. And there’s ball four and that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Oh, you know this guy wants to swing it, but he’s showing some good patience in this one. It’s the second time he’s taken ball four. Stepping in, Tristan English. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. First pitch just misses. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone right through there for a strike. Just amazing to me how many closers and backend relievers just throw absolute gas these days. I never would have had a chance. Highf fly ball out to center field. Drops into the glove and there’s one down. Now batting the center fielder Alec Thomas. He’s two outs away. Here’s the center fielder Alec Thomas. Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases outside ball one back door breaking ball just missed right there and boy umpire didn’t give him the call. I bet you if he throws it again, hitter knows he’s going to have to swing it. With the tying run at the plate, here in the top of the ninth and a count one and two, swings and misses. Stop him out. And Arizona with just one out left. Now catcher Jose will hit next. And there’s the strike. No balls. One strike. Hard hit left side on the first ball game. Starting a new month is a great chance to hit the reset button. Whether you’re coming in hot or cold, getting that win today is a great feeling to continue through the rest of the month. And your final 42. The A’s are victorious. for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami saying so long
