Cardinals vs. Padres Game Highlights (8/1/25) | MLB Highlights
AJ was up to his old magic, his old tricks. Welcome to San Diego. Here are the principal involved in every need was taken care of a starters. Catcher infielder outfielder closer, also acquired infielder Will Wagner and left handed pitcher Nestor Cortez. So AJ talking about making this team better. What a difference. 24 hours made on the mound for the Padres is nick Pata, 30 two year old veteran, 20 seconds 12th at home and he loves pitching here at Petco Park six to zero swing and a Miss and Herrera strikes out first of the night for this one hammered in the air to right field. Fernando backing up on the track , he will leap and make the catch right in front of the wall and a 123 top of the first inning for nick Patta after some struggles early in the season on the road mark, Sweeney Matthew Liberto really pitched effectively away from Busch Stadium and tonight he looks for his seventh victory. Although as you said, a moment ago, tough assignment, the Padres in back to back starts hitting streak of 13 games, longest active hitting streak right now in the majors riding an eight gamer as well. 3 to 2 grounded by the mound up the middle into center field, a base hit for a ride. David just got a right cross and now Contreras getting a hug. Everybody is happy down first base and that one is on the ground. Nice handle on a short hop by Contreras and Matthew Liberto gives up a base hit. Nothing else. We head to the second as Tony told you 10 to 3, 281 a putting together a career year. His first season in San Diego 2 to 2 to win. Swung on, grounded to third. Manny backhands it across the line across the body, throw in time to away Manny Machado doing Manny Machado things at the hot corner introduced to 290 this year, 15 home runs, 46 runs batted in, gets strikeouts. His first of the game, Lorean is out number two. There’s a fly ball left field moving back with some room over near the corner. The catch is made by Burleson. Ricky is getting ready for the third after two, no score in two down in the third scoreless game here against the Cardinals 2 to 2 again and right on the inside corner that strike three called the top of the third inning, nine up nine down to begin the night for nick Patta with a couple of K’s top of the fourth inning, andres nothing and the Cardinals nothing. Nick Pave who has gone nine up, nine down to begin. The evening liner caught behind second base by Bogard. Kind of a fading line drive. Zander was able to make a play on down to his knees 1 to 0 and Burleson grounds it slowly to the right side charged by a rise. He’s got it, he’ll bring it himself. And how about another 123 inning for nick Poveda? He has started his day 12 up and 12 down. The story of the series in ST Louis was the Cardinals just could not handle the 123 hitters for the Padres. Diego’s first three batters had 25 hits in the four game series. Ground ball up. The middle diamond is Donovan, but just to get there at all pretty impressive. And Jackson Merrill breaks up a string of 10 in a row retired by a Liberator. The two pitch is grounded towards the shortstop. Mason win has it and he throws over two contre to complete the inning and the Padres strand the second runner of this game. They have two hits and that’s it. Contreras win and Gorman coming up 45 and six against nick Patta who has started his night 12 up 12 down wilson Contreras to lead it off here in the fifth inning swing and a drive Hammer deep left Liano will watch that one sail out of here off the facade of the second. That’s how you break up a perfecto a solo home run and the Cardinals strike first, you think about the emotion they had in ST Louis when it nick Pave against Wilson Contreras, this is almost that payback that you feel so comfortable about. He took his time getting around the base pass. Why not admire this one at the bottom of the order is something the Padres are able to take advantage of a part of the lineup that I think has really turned the corner in the last couple of weeks. Went softly to third Nolan Gorman on the run and off the glove of Guterres at first base gets away. Borth will take third and round it. Now a throw across the diamond gets there comes Cron to tie the score at one. Guts may have two errors on the same play. What was he thinking on that throw to third? He spiked it. Cronenworth may be baiting him by coming down the line a little bit and he threw it completely away and this thing is 11 in the fifth base hit here would be sweet to left center field and that will get in for a base hit from second base comes Iglesias Padres take a 21 lead. Diaz driving in the go ahead run a sloppy inning from the Cardinals open the door. Padres punching tickets second walk of the inning. Second walk of the outing for Liberator with 1st and 2nd, only one out and Luisa Rise coming up to left and it’s in for a base hit kind of in between, wasn’t sure whether he’s coming in or that drop it drop. And the second of the night for rise loads of bases after 85 pitches, that’s going to be all for Matthew Liberto tonight. Matthew Liberto leaves with a Miss bases loaded for San Diego. The Cardinals turn to Mattson situations, the high leverage situations talking about growing up bases loaded one out, a 12 pitch swinging Miss Swanson overpowers Manny Machado. Big, big first batter retire. There’s your second out of the innings. Still got some work to do here. Jackson is one out of two tonight with an infield single line to center base hit for Merrill from third comes Diaz. Here comes fernando Padres taking forward driving in a pair. So we’ll have another debut. Brian O acquired from the Baltimore Orioles left handed batter to come off the bench and hit for Iglesias. The designated hitter can play first, he can play left pitch comes in, hits him on the foot, he can do that too. And 02 pitches into his padre career is aboard on a hit by working into the seventh inning. That shouldn’t be a surprise. Patta has been. That guy all year gets to strikeout strikeout for Nick two down in the seventh inning 95 upstairs. And what did you do before a little bit of run down and away and Then goes back up there 0 to 2 pitch on the ground sharply to near the bag at second base. The long throw to first in time. How about seven innings from 4 to 1 Padres heavily of the Cardinals. It’s Miller time. Our first look at Mason Miller really exciting. Not only for us but the Padre fans out there 48 saves. He’s the Reaper. Yes, he is. He’s touched 104 on the radar gun if he stays away from the slider with that triple digit fastball 1st and 3rd. No outs for the struck him out first strikeout in the Padres uniform for Mason Miller. That 100 three is going to get up on Tabia very, very quickly. It leaks in way up and in out of the hand looks like it’s going to be right there. First pitch from Miller is swung on grounded to third man. He’s got it goes to second. That’s one turn from cronenworth is big time and a double play to end the inning. Mason Miller got himself into trouble and Then gets out of it. No runs, two hits. One guy left on base of the ninth inning at Pepco Park. Robert Suarez is gonna come on and try and close this thing out and lighten up some radar guns tonight with the last two pitchers on the, for the Padres to get herrera on, get Burleson up representing the tying run on the ground to third base. Machado to second for one on to win 543 in the N 543 after Mason Miller worked a scoreless eighth after nick Pata through seven brilliant innings. And game one after the trade deadline is a 4 to 1 win over the ST Louis Cardinals.

20-8 here we go

That 5th inning was fun to watch
Miller x Suarez . Sheesh π₯π₯βΎ
Preller needs to give arreaz a contract for 2026
LFGSD!!!
Padres fan since '80 (yes, I'm old) and I'm excited about the new signings. Gotta admit I didn't love losing Bergert and Kolek because I know that pitchers get hurt easily and Darvish and King could get hurt again and they were pretty good for us in the first half. Anyways, we're trying to win a championship and that means taking risks. We'll see if it pans out.
contreras feeling himself after his home run just to single handedly lose the game for his team πππ
I am so fucking excited for this team
As my birthday, Padres win, and win trade(cost a lot of, although)..One of my best birthday it isπ
My eyes.
Cheers Contreras π
The Padres bull pen is wild.
smelLA daughters are going DOWN

Now I believe the Padres are absolutely viable in the post-season. Until Preller did his thing, I had serious doubts.
Ain't this fun?
