Pirates vs. Rockies Game Highlights (8/1/25) | MLB Highlights

Well, it is a beautiful evening here at 20th and Blake as the Rockies are getting ready to welcome in the Pittsburgh Pirates for a three-game set. Renton Doyle getting ready to go in the City Connect jerseys here on Friday night. Well, you know the drill with sense of the ball’s going to be in play and and when he’s going well, the ball’s on the ground. Yeah, and luckily the last three starts here at Korsfield have been good for him. Romeo, he’s gone at least six innings, a low ERA, and standing in left-handed hitter. Spencer Horowitz, the first baseman, swung out and lined into left. That’s down for a base hit. So that’s how the Pirates start this. Horiz having a nice second half already with a single here to start off the ball game. Andrew McCutchen the next hitter, the veteran. That ball’s roped into left center field. Horwitz will go to third as Andrew McCutchen rips a single to left center field. Here’s Brian Reynolds. Two on and nobody out for the Pirates. Swinging a ball hit down the left field line. There’s another base hit and Hitz makes sure it hits it’s down. He’s easily scoring. McCutchen up at second. Three straight singles plates the Pirates a run. One- nothing here with nobody out in the first inning. RBI number 52 for Reynolds. First and second, nobody out for Nick Gonzalez. Line to right field. A base hit and they’re loaded with bucks. Four batters in, four hard hit balls off a struggling Antonio Zensella. Well, the Pirates start off the game with four straight hits for the first time since 2023. Here’s Cruz at 217. 17 home runs. Doesn’t always make contact, but when he does, it’s loud. There’s a drive to right center field. O’Neal Crows. A Cruz missile for a grand slam. A laser over the right center field fence into the Bucko Bullpen. And a chef’s kiss for O’Neal Cruz. Five nothing Pirates. 18 dingers for Cruz. There’s putting your foot on the gas and then there’s putting it full pedal to the metal. 21 pitches, not one out recorded. Five runs, six hits, and a walk and a grand slam. And as a ground ball to short, there could be two. Second for one Estrada onto first base. It is that. It’s a double play. Yeah, that’s big for the Rockies. Uh because I’m sure they didn’t want to go get their veteran pitcher in the first inning. Fam at third, two away, swinging a ground ball right side, dribbling through. A base hit for Ker Fa that knocks in Fam. The Pirates have batted around in the first and they’re up 6 nothing. Looking for more. Wow. There’s ball four and Zensitella basically he basically retired one batter. The Triolo ground ball that turned into a double play. And Warren Schaefer has to lift him. Is going to pull Senzotella from this game after twothirds of an inning. He can’t get out of the first. Here’s Cutch for a second time this first inning. Drive to left field enough to hit it out. He’s done it again here at Kors. Andrew McCutchen a threerun blast. That’s his 11th of the season. Nine nothing Pirates here at Kors. McCutchen homers again. Last seven games here. He’s homered six times. Andrew Heeney 21st start for him. 107 innings, 78 strikeouts. And we get Hunter Goodman up to the plate with two outs and nobody on. And that one’s ripped to left center field. O’Neal Cruz on the run. Drops the ball on his glove and it came out into second base. We’ll get Hunter Goodman with his great speed. He got to that ball in the gap in left center, but he couldn’t secure it. And the Rocky’s first inning continues. Goodman at second. Here’s Jordan Beck. Backsline to left center field. The Rockies are going to get a run out of this. He talked about chipping away. There’s one. Right behind single for Beck and take advantage of the miss Q. So here is Brenton Doyle. Fast ball swung on line sharply out to left field and this ball will bang off the wall and Cruz will collect the rebound and he’s going to third and the throw from Cruz. He got him. Oh my goodness. Shades of Jose Guen here at Coors Field in Denver from the wall. Cruz throws to Triolo and Doyle is out. I can’t wait to see the stat cast on this Greg. This is incredible. Holy smokes. I mean, in Doyle’s defense, he’s never seen anything like that. Ezekiel Tovar at the plate. Oh, this ball crushed deep left field and is going to have to go and get it from the bottom part of the wall. It’s a birthday double for Tovar. Well, at home in now 18 games he has in OPS almost,00 that ball was crushed and that’s ball four of it at bat for Jordan Beck. First and second for the Rockies and one down and warming Bernabel will make his way to the plate. Bernabel is heating up deep left field and a chance to fly. His third home run in a Rocky’s uniform. Look out. It’s not four to three run by. He is warming up. Guy stayed under control and he has punished mistakes. He did it in Baltimore. He did it in Cleveland. Now he’s come home to Denver and Mr. Haney makes a little mistake with that little slider in and Warming just absolutely punished it to left field. And the Pirates have loaded the bases turning the lineup over for Spencer Horwitz. The tamper up first base. Fair ball right at the bag and there’s the out. The throw is late. Fam will score. Now the bounce out to first. Hormitz gets a run batted in. It’s 10 for it. Now Andrew McCutchen the hitter with runners at second and third. Two down. Blind drive base hit add to the riby total. Two more and a dozen for the Pirates and five RBI’s tonight for McCutchen. So here’s Ezekiel Tovar 24 today. And this ball’s hammered to left. This will be extra bases. One hop off the wall. Freeman is going to keep coming toward the plate and a ball is bumpled by Kyler Fa and it’s a runscoring double for Ezekiel. It’s 12 to five. Andy Gonzalez said, “Let’s go. Let’s go.” And and he did catch a break though because the throw coming in from Tommy Fam wasn’t quite in the air long enough for Conor Fale to be able to do it. Toar with one out is 90 ft away. Oh, Hunter Goodman up there. That’s a base hit. Back breaks. Down comes Toebar. Hunter Goodman who can always sniff a riby has 60 now. And it’s 12-6. There’s O’Neal Cruz. He is one for three with a grand slam and then two strikeouts. Chopper and it sneaks through. Gets so much on that. And look at him take off for second base. Oh man, he is doing it all here. all facets of the game. A double and a hustling double at that. And it’s not close, Neil. Not even close. Hustling out of the box. A two hopper through the infield and then turns on the Jets. Game changing stuff, Greg. That’s four walks for Joey Bart. I mean, this is with all due respect to Joey, he’s not exactly Barry Bonds. Shot up the middle. Triolo does indeed join the hit parade and bring home Cruz. Pirates have scored 13 runs and we’re here in the fifth inning breaking out the challe. So here is Isaiah Kiner Fa with two on and two out with a run in for the Pirates. And that’s a fair ball slap pass first and stays in play in the corner. Doesn’t hit off the short fence. Two more in. Two-run double Ker Fa Bart and Triolo score 156. And a walk to Doyle and a base hit to Farmer. So the Rockies have first and second. Nobody out here in the fifth game. Bring up Mickey Moniac. Highf fly ball deep right center field. Mickey get knocked off the wall. Doyle. He’s going to score. Towering double to make it 15-7. That was real close to a home run. Just bouncing off the top of that wall in front of the Rocky’s bullpen. Now here’s Tyler Freeman. Top of the order again. Down the line. extra bases. Farmer scores. Here comes Bodiac. Two-run double. Tyler Freeman. 15-9. Buckle up, boys. That’s the 28th hit of the ball game. Yeah. Here’s Tovar. This ball to center field and deep turning Cruz around over his head and it bounces out of play. Three double night for Tovar. Freeman will score. It’s 15-10. When was the last time you thought, “Yeah, 15 got a winning number.” Maybe about 10 seconds ago. Now the bases are loaded. No one out. Good pitch, Jimmy Herget. Great pitch. As Jesse said, the strikeout cruise and you get to pop up the fan. This would be huge if Jimmy can get out of this without giving up a run. What’s up to Joey Bart? He’s walked in four consecutive plate appearances and he gets hit by a pitch to bring home a run. 16 runs on the board. I don’t know if I’ve seen five plate appearances and and and no ABS. Four walks and a hit batter. One out. Ezekiel Tobar at the plate. This is to deep left. Now it’s going to be his fourth double. That’s what it’s going to be. What a birthday for Ezekiel Tobar. Way cooler than a cycle. Tough road trip for Yon Fernandez. He went 1 for 10 on that with five strikeouts. Well, there is number one. Young Fernandez back wall the bullpit for his first career big fly and he makes it 16-2. It’s a couple home runs tonight and we’ve been talking about it’s going to happen first with warming and now look at that smile. I love it. That’s amazing. That’s great. Hunter tonight scored a run, driven in a run with a hit. He’s also walked launched to deep left. Take a good look. You won’t see it for long. Milwaukeies will not go away. 1613. 20th of the year for Goodman. Beck is at first. Warming Bernabel coming up. And that’s a base hit down the left field line. Back to third. Beck gets a green light. Warning Burnabel to third with a triple. Here comes the show. This is so much fun. This is crazy. Tyro Strat is a tying run up the middle. Base hit. It’s a one right game. 1615. And now the potential winning run. And Brent Doyle makes his way to home plate. Dennis Santana has never pitched well here. This is crazy. And for some reason, it’s happening again tonight. It is Brenton Doyle now at the plate for the Rockies. One swing and they would win. And hit deep to left. Is it enough? Going back, fam. And gone. It’s gone. You’ve got to be kidding me. Rockies have come all the way back to win it 17- 16. Never seen a game like this. Horsefield magic at its finest
