Washington Commanders Are About To Make A HUGE Trade?
All right, Commanders fans, let’s talk about it. Let’s talk about Terry McLaren. Let’s talk about all the things, the good, the bad, the everywhere in between. We’re going to do comparisons that I think a lot of people aren’t looking into this of what usually happens. This is hold out season. If you have a player that is on the last year of their contract, if they are an elite player and they don’t have a new contract, especially if they’re in their late 20s or early 30s, they hold out. This is what happens. Don’t freak out too much. I’m going to give you some other examples of what’s going on there. And then in the back half of this video, we’ll get into the worst case scenario. What if they can’t come to a deal with Terry McLaren and they need to actually trade him? I will go ahead and we’ll talk about that as well. So, don’t worry about it yet. But first, what I want to do is I want to give you a couple of recent people and what they’ve done. And I want to give you the information to say, what do we want to do for Terry McLaren? What does it look like for him? Recent people who have held out in a very similar circumstance. CD Lamb, this is probably the closest of all the examples that we’ve seen. All right. He completely skipped voluntary workouts. We’ve seen that. Mandatory mini camp, we’ve seen that. And training camp, he was still negotiating. Eventually, he signed a 4-year, $136 million extension, 100 million guaranteed, by the way, lots of money. Lots of money. All right. Lots and lots of money in August just ahead of week one. And he started playing, played great. All right. Um, he declared he’d not be a step behind and quickly resumed practice full-time. Quarterback wasn’t worried about it. Another one that was different. So there’s three different levels to this is Jamar Chase. I was thinking about this. Jamar Chase did the hold in right where he showed up but didn’t practice. Maybe he was hurt. All right. He preserved his roster bonus and avoid daily fines. This was very interesting. All right. He continued into the season under his rookie contract and signed a 4-year $161 million extension in March after the season. So, he ended up getting the bag, right? The most money. And then you have a guy like T. Higgins. All right. He didn’t hold out. He accepted the franchise tag um in February and reported to camp and then signed a 4-year hundred what is it? $15 million extension in March of 2025 after playing under the tag for two years. I think the the most similar one to this is CD Lamb, but there’s something all three of these guys have in common. They all got an extension done. Here’s the difference. Another guy that you can talk about is Mike Evans. He got his extension done. Here’s the difference between Terry McLaren and those guys. All those guys were in their mid to early 20s. Terry McLaren is almost 30 years old. So if you’re going to give Terry McLaren what it’s sounding like needs to be a three to fouryear deal over $30 million a year, they’re saying up to 36 $37 million a year. You have to ask yourself, is he worth the money? Now Terry McLaren has done nothing to drop off. I mean nothing. He has been fantastic. So, yeah, he’s almost 30 years old, right? His birthday is in September. I believe he’ll be 30. But every year, I’m going to give you the stats for his last five years starting in 2020. 2020, 93 catches for almost 1,200 yards, four touchdowns. 2021, 77 catches, 1,50 yards, five touchdowns. 2022, 77 catches again, but almost 1,200 yards, five touchdowns. 2023, 79 catches for 1,000 yards, 1,02 yards, four touchdowns. Last year, last year 96 catches, 1,323 yards, 16 touchdowns. Just insanity what he was able to do when he got a good quarterback. It’s that simple. He got a good quarterback. Now the question is like you can’t say Terry McLaren wasn’t good because he was putting together four 1,000yard seasons in a row. Four 1000 yard seasons in a row every year between 115 and 135 targets. So the targets were consistent, the catches were consistent, the yards were consistent, and the touchdowns were consistent. Then you enter Jaden Daniels and all of a sudden Terry McLaren’s out here looking like, you know, Justin Jefferson. He’s out here looking like CD Lamb. Uh he’s out here looking like Jamar Chase. And all of a sudden you realize like, man, this guy is even more elite than I thought. It really was just that he didn’t have a good quarterback and he was also making plays himself. But is he worth almost 40 million? That’s the question I have for you as Commanders fan. If you’re new to this channel, you know we’re Detroit Lions fans. We just love talking football, right? And so we started a channel where of things where the national media kind of ignores these teams. The Commanders feel like unfortunately they’re that team in the NFC East that nobody’s talking about as much as they should. It’s always talking about the Cowboys and the Eagles and we even have to listen about how much the Giants are terrible before we talk about how good the Commanders are. This is very interesting to me. Um, I also went and did some research and I wanted to look at what kind of value teams usually get in these trades. All right, the most clear comparisons as of late are two players, DK Metaf and Stefan Diggs. DK Metaf was traded along with a sixthround pick for a 2025 second and seventh. So essentially essentially they got a second round pick for DK Metaf. Stefan Diggs went to the Texans the year before and he went for a second round pick and late round picks. Now these guys already have big contract. Well, they didn’t. DK Metaf signed for 30 million a year with the Steelers after the trade and Terry McLaren would have to agree to something like that as well. So Terry McLaren for a second round pick, I don’t like that. But you also have to look and you have to say, “All right, what about the salary cap?” Like, why is this why is this happening? Why are we not as commanders just signing him right away? Well, let’s let’s take a look at it. All right, here’s your salary cap right now. You have 17 million in space. Not bad. All right, next year 2026, you have 73 million. That’s fifth. That’s not including Terry McLaren. So if you pay him, you cut that in half. That’s just what it is. That’s what it is. And then you have other guys that your dead cap’s non-existent. Like Don Payne, you could save 20 million, right? Like those are the things that you ha the decisions that you have to make. Same with Marshon Latimore. So, like I don’t see this, if I can be completely honest, as a salary cap issue. I think the commanders are just wondering if they want to pay a guy who’s turning 30 years old 140 million over the next four years. I think that’s the issue. I think 140 million for four years gets this done. The question is, do you want to pay this man more money than CD Lamb when he’s 30? Then do you want to be paying him $40 million when he’s 34? That’s the question. And he’s paid through this year. So it would be an extension. Do you want to pay him when he’s 35? Wide receivers aren’t still elite in the way in which he plays. It would be hard to justify that. So that’s my guess is that the difference in the struggles here are through the years. commanders probably want to give him two years, 78 million, something like that, 75 million, and he wants three or four. That’s the struggle that you’re walking with. So, hey, here’s my deal. And and here’s what I’ll say. Most of these get worked out. Terry McLaren um has been through a contract negotiation before. Usually, these things get worked out um but not always. Not always. So, you know, and and I do want to I do want to say this first as we’re talking about this. Just a reminder, this is Terry McLaren’s contract right now. All right. This is his contract right now. He is in the final year. He’s getting 25 million. So, it’s not like you’re not paying the guy. It’s not like you’re not paying the guy. And coming off his rookie contract, he only signed a It was a three-year almost $70 million deal. Not bad. Not bad, but also kind of a bargain. So now he wants his money and he’s going to get it somewhere. He’s going to get somewhere. All right, thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy it. Um, NFL season’s here. Let’s go. See you on the next one.

Keep up the good work man, I love and appreciate your Texans content!!
As a lifetime Commanders Fan: Current Front Office was correct about Kamren Kurl. They are 100% correct about the long-term contract with Terry. #HTTC
Appreciate your work in looking up teams like Commanders.
You got a subscriber
Forget Terry. He’s getting bad advice. Next WR up! HTTC
I live ( with a short future) on 20 thou a year and no bills. Legacy 'Skin fan, back to Sammy slinging it. Really appreciate you guys and your Wash football team content. Love the way you do it Terry, so do what you want and damn sure do it YOUR way! Get treated right, or go get treated right with my blessing!!!!!!!
I’ve lost a lot of respect for Terry, maybe it’s his manager but still. He finally gets a great QB and he wants to bag chase. Current ownership and management is not responsible for the environment of the past.
You can talk about comps but that is not what is important, that only establishes the value of the player on the general market. What has happened in WAS is that two receivers, Brooks and Lane, have established themselves as of star caliber, they are "balling out" in practice. If MacLaurin were to play in WAS this year he would NOT be getting 60% of snaps, instead these rookie receivers need snaps so that the team is not "held hostage", is prepared for when MacLaurin would FA. MacLaurin most probably undrstands this that he would only get as few as 35% of snaps and would get less than 750 yards and this would crash his FA value.
The stats for the last 5 years are meaningless in predicting the future, especially going forward more than one year at a time. It is much more reliable, what is going on NOW in practice, than what went on the last 5 years.
It seems like WAS' salary cap is burning a hole in your pocket. Commanders are paying generally 10m for VERY good vets. MacLaurin is NOT worth three Ertzes.
In fact, when judging MacLaurin's worth, you need to ask this question: How many passing yards would you expect would be LOST without MacLaurin? If you cannot answer this question you really cannot then add "so it would be worth 30m per year to avoid that." Personally I will make a prediction that with no Terry WAS will get not fewer but MORE yards, 2024=3932, they will get 4000+ passing yards in 2025. What is your estimate?
You PROMISED you would get to discussing trading MacLaurin but you never got there. I will estimate that the trade will be announced after the NE game August 8th, a game in which Brooks or Lane or both get 100 yards, this will completely destroy the negative optics of Terry being traded to NE. I will also say it is a good deal if WAS gets a 2026 2R but if somehow WAS gets MORE than this it will be a GREAT trade, and that a deal is on the table right now, that NE is making the highest bid, and that the option is being left open thru August 8th. I have no source for this, it's just reasoning.
Since you PROMISED I would like to see you post a trade analysis. Thanks.
Terry needs a new agent that will be honest with him and not sell him a pipe dream.
Since he's been ranked, Terry's been 18th(his best) 25th, 26th, 25th, and then Jayden got him back to 20th in the league. He's NEVER been top 10, but he wants top 5 money? Nah. While he was number 1 in contested catches last year, it's because he couldn't separate from the defender. His most memorable scores were the first Dallas game last season, the Detroit playoff game(sorry) and the NFC championship game(invisible except for that score) Over his career, he's been caught from behind regularly. He has been the ultimate teammate until contract time, then he becomes full on diva. I'm all for keeping him on with a contract that makes sense for the team, but Terry's agent seems to be giving him some bad advice. Daron Payne is in his last year, but he realizes what this team has right now and has chosen NOT to be a distraction. That's what true leaders do, team above self. Hopefully Terry will realize he's alienating himself from some of the fan base, and perhaps, some teammates as well depending on how long he drags this out. It would be a shame if he suffered through the Snyder years only to end up getting traded and missing out playing with a potential MVP QB because his agent doesn't see the writing on the wall.
Terry looked good, and was/is there too option but saying he looked like Jefferson last season is kinda crazy.he is a top 9-12 wr not a top 1-4 one.
I'd say 30 max
Terry's only winning move is to sign the contract that AP is offering. Any other way, he loses.
The national media is going to have no choice but to talk about our team and not ignore us anymore ( the same goes for your team )
Never heard q more annoying clown than you
Worse comes to worse, we can make him play his contract out, and franchise tag him next year
No.
As a lifelong Commanders / Skins fan, please, for the love of God, dump McLaurin; take a 2nd and 4th round pick for him and move on. I do believe there's enough talent on their WR roster now to make up for it. I also believe Daniels has the talent to make most of them shine. Dump McMoneybags off to a team that can never make the Super Bowl and laugh at his retirement party in 3 years!
He is not elite, in one year LESS Than Terry, Justin has more than 1,100 more yards receiving than Terry. Justin has three 1,500 yard plus receiving seasons, Terry has zero.
Terry will be 30 in September. His extension will start when he’s 31! Why pay 35+ million for 3 years for a 31 year old receiver? Can he run routes with a walker?
You can't really blame Terry for trying to get his bag. Hell, we all know that a player can step out on the field during practice, preseason games or on the first play of the first game and injure himself for the season, and then what? I believe Terry is worth T.Higgins money $28mil but Terry is WR1 and I think he deserves $30mil. Terry should be looking at the guaranteed money instead of the annual salary.
His agent is hurting him by being greedy
The other big difference is that the Redskins got his potential replacements in in the offseason with Gallup and Lane. One short term for this year, one long term. I've been trying tell fans this ever since the NFC final: this is the time to move Terry if you want a good return. Watch free agency and the draft and it'll tell you everything you need to know. IMO they're moving him. They just need some camp drama to get the NFL to look up, and that's all this is. Oh please won't someone come save our unhappy receiver from making $25 milion a year! I swear he cries himself to sleep every night!
And Buddy, the agent there, is the patsy. Walk around camp looking like a busybody so all the fans see you! Then everyone will blame you rather than Terry or Peters! Telling you, this is scripted to get everyone's attention while shielding the player and the team.
Stop talking about Terrys age because he was drafted as an older draft pick
Adam peters is thrash 💯
I think it was 5 1000+ yard seasons! But I don't like the trend of spending 40+% of your cap on 3 players, regardless how good they are.
Love the Redskins helmet in the background
HTTR
Let him chase the bag worrying about what this person got type sht how old are those guys how old is terry i adore 17 love the guy class i like management not over paying remember the past we are heading in the right direction pay him dont over pay how old is terry
Let Adam cook. He's cooked up the oldest team in the NFL. There's no LAST place schedule this year. This schedule is tough😭
Eagles Cornerback shut Terry down. Elites don't get shut down. He shouldn't get more than Mike Evans. He's a top 15-20 receiver at best.
When they say, “the salary cap will go up every year,” they are actually saying, “ticket prices are going up every year!”
Raise your hand if you believe the fans will continue paying more each and every season to watch an on-field product that fails to be better every year!
Let me see those hands. You guys with your arm up. Someone is coming to check them for needle marks. 😂😂
Great Show!!!
Why would the Washington Commanders trade TM just to watch another NFL team pay him what he’s worth?
Yoo this Terry slander is wild bro
