Knicks Final Roster Spot UPDATE! New York Knicks News
So, when talking about the Knicks final roster spot, there’s three names that are coming up. Malcolm Brogden, Ben Simmons, and Landrew Sham. I think what it comes down to is just what do the Knicks need the most? Right now, it seems like we’ve got a good amount of scoring and shooting, but the defense and playmaking could certainly be improved. And that’s what has me thinking, well, Ben Simmons certainly can playmate. He averaged about five assists a game. He’s a good defender, can switch multiple positions. But also, Malcolm Bragden can defend. He can playmake. And even though last season, he did not shoot the three ball well. Previously, the two years before that, he was over 40%. So, do we how much do we take away from Brogden’s season last year? He’s with a bad team. There’s just not much for him to exactly work with. But if he comes to the Knicks, he’s competing for a championship. It’s going to be a breath of fresh air. And when he was with the Celtics back in 2023, I mean, he was the sixth man of the year. He was unbelievable. Remember the year Emanuel Quickley finished runner up. Remember how good Ike was? Well, Brogden was even better. But the issue as well with him is he’s averaged 58.25 games in his past four seasons. So, how reliable is he going to be? And he would be off of the bench. So, it should be fine with the minutes, but it does seem awfully risky to go get Broggen. He averaged 1344 and a steal last season. Me personally, I like this in the sense that it would take a lot of the playmaking pressure off of Jaylen Brunson because you could argue the Knicks biggest weakness. Well, defensively, like defense was our was our biggest weakness, but probably you could argue outside of that the second biggest weakness was there was way too much pressure on Brunson to be able to take the ball up and to create every single possession. Which is why I mentioned in my video yesterday, Cat needs to be more of a focal point in the offense if I’m Mike Brown, but at least have someone else who’s capable of playmaking and bringing the ball up because as much as I like Deuce McBride, he doesn’t really provide that. He doesn’t dribble the basketball up. I mean, he’ll do it if Brunson’s injured or something like that, but we just don’t really see that. Campaign did do that, but then he struggled and became unplayable, which is why we saw Dylan Wright and Lander Shamut be inserted and that worked out very well. So, I think Brogden would be a good piece. I just don’t know if I like him more than Ben Simmons. To be honest, I do like him more than Landry Shamut. Like I like Shamut more as a player because he’s just every single time Sham releases the ball, I think it’s going in. And he’s clearly built for the bright lights of New York. He came in game three back against the wall and he played well games three, four, five, and six of course and Sham was awesome. I just love the idea of another 3 and D wing. But that’s if Tyler Kolic is ready to go. And judging off of what I saw in the summer league, I don’t think he necessarily is. I know I made a video saying that Kick the Knicks are hiding a monster. I really do like Tyler Kick, but I’m talking about every single night, can Kolk fill in the minutes without Brunson. And I don’t think we saw enough in the summer league to be able to say that we did. As much as I’d like to see him be able to do that, I think Kak’s probably like a year or two away. So the Knicks do need playmaking next to Brunson. So, I think Brogden makes sense in that regard. But if you think about it, Ben Simmons can do all the things that Brogden can from a playmaking standpoint. Obviously, he’s a better defender because 610 versus like 63. I think Bron I think Brogden’s like 6’3 and Sim Simmons. So, he’s given you more length, more size, more versatility, playmaking. Simmons give you he’s not going to give you any scoring. He can drive to the basket, catch lobs and dunks and things like that. But the Knicks exact, the thing is, like I said beginning of video, they don’t exactly need scoring. The Knicks doesn’t matter if Ben Simmons gives you five or four points a game. They just need him to be able to create for others and make it easy because coming off of our bench, you’ve got Yaba, of course, you got Jordan Clarkson, you got Deuce McBride, Mitchell Robinson, Josh Hart. I don’t know which one of them is going to start. If I had to guess, I would probably go Josh Hart. I mean, I don’t know if Mike Brown would play Mitch and Cat next to each other. I mean, I would love to see that happen, but just with who’s off of the bench, there’s really not much playmaking. Like, Clarkson can playmake, dudes can playmake, but Ben Simmons is known for that, too. And it always seems like Simmons is in a situation where he’s being asked to do something that isn’t exactly his game, but he’d be super comfortable with the guys around him. And also Mitch and Ben Simmons defensively be very difficult to score in that because Mitch the the difference between Cat and Mitch is that Mitch can switch on to guards. Cat cannot. And Tyres Hallebertton was ducking every single time he had a screen and Mitch was on him too. Like there was a couple of I think maybe like I can remember maybe like once or twice all series Hallebertton got him. But the majority of the time, more often than not, Mitch was getting a crazy contest on a shot because he’s a sevenfooter with a good vertical and a long wingspan. So Mitch is just so difficult to score and yet let alone to mention he’s quick on his feet. So it’s just very very impossible to be able to to be able to score on Mitch because if you shoot a jumper, he’s getting contest and if you blow by him, well, he’s never out of a play because of his leaping ability, too. Cat is not quick on his feet and he struggled. That’s my biggest thing as well is and that’s exactly why I’ I’ve actually kind of changed my mind the past couple of videos I’ve made. I started off not wanting Ben Simmons and then I kind of wanted Ben Simmons. Now I’m fully in on Ben Simmons just because the Knicks need more defense. Literally like Ben Simmons can not make a single jumper all year. Like he would still be impactful for the Knicks too because now you’ve got Simmons, you’ve got Anobi, Josh Hart, Bridges, Yabisale. It’s a lot of guys that can switch different positions, Mitchell Robinson, and just take pressure off of Brunson and Cat. That’s what the Knicks need. They need defense next to Brunson and Cat if they want to go out there and compete and get to the next level. Lander Shamut would make a lot of sense because again, he can shoot the ball 40% from three, doesn’t need any touches, spot a guy who can also defend. There’s just no room for him as well. And that that’s another thing with the Knicks because they’re just below the second apron. They’re probably going to be above it after extending Mitch assuming they do. But you’ve got Diwara, Hugporty, Dier, Cole, like you got a bunch of guys, I don’t even know if they’re going to play next season that are taking up roster spots. The reason they’re taking up roster spots is again because the Knicks can stay under the second apron. They’re cheap. They’re on rookie deals or second round exceptions, things like that. for example, like Diwara, which is amazing, but it also kind of sucks because now all of a sudden you have to carry guys that you aren’t even going to play when you can could just have all three of these guys, right? Like what if the Knicks got Brogden, Simmons, and Lander Shamut? They’d be a much better team. And that’s why I’m like I’m kind of bummed out that OG did get that contract. I mean, obviously like the Knicks had to do that because they traded away RJ and IQ to go get him, but it would have been awesome if OG took a pay cut. And male is going for like 38 and a half million, which is pretty reasonable. I saw some Knicks fans not be too thrilled with that, but like Male’s definitely worth every single penny of that. I mean, yeah, he’s not an allstar. He’s not superstar, but he’s a guy who plays defense, can knock down some shots, and he’s pretty consistent. Like, he shot 50% from the field. Yeah, his three ball wasn’t very consistent. M and Male is going to have to work on that, but he’s he shot the three ball well his entire career. And we saw against the Celtics, he was a big part of why the Knicks won that series. I think Muel is gonna be even better with less minutes, less of a workload, of course, because he was being asked to do a lot. He was being asked to to play 40 minutes every single night and for 82 games, too. That’s going to take a toll on your body. And he’s also missed he’s never missed a game since like I think high school. So yeah, of course, with Mike Brown playing him less minutes, he’s going to be even better. If Male had more legs, he would have been knocking down jumpers more consistently. So I’m excited about that, too. And also just Yabasel, I mean, what a pickup, man, by Leon Rose going out and getting him. Absolutely love that addition. Same with Jordan Clarkson. So, it’s the same team with Clarkson and Yabasale and hopefully Ben Simmons. But hey, I would not be mad at all with any three of those guys. Like, I wouldn’t complain about Shamut, Brogden, or Ben Simmons, man. All three of them would be huge additions. I’m excited just thinking about it. But hey guys, Friday night, man. You’ll have fun.

I’m assuming it comes down to brogdon shamet and Simmons plus the Knicks are waiting on a Ben Simmons decision. I’m going for shamet because the other two players have major injury concerns and two things we need is a legit pg or a wing. The more important one is the wing. We have too much guards and I think shamet is a low risk high reward type of option. And he already has chemistry with this team and the fans love him (me) I won’t undermine Simmons and brogdon talent but their injury history is a high risk type of option and I don’t think they would want to go for it
Mind you we have brusnon who can playmake hart clarkson prolly bridges and kolek if he’s ready to compete so idk 🤷
Ben Simmons- injury prone
Malcolm brogdon- injury prone
Landry shamet- no prone
1. Shamet
2. Brogdon
3. Simmons
Simmons will fold under the nyc pressure Brogdon cant play defense and we can ALL AGREE that defense is our biggest issue not playmaking. Thats why Shamet is the beat plus he is a nockdown shooter
Thank you for not playing pacer highlights
I never want to see Ben Simmons on the Knicks ever again
Ben Simmons covers everything we want a guard a wing also a big that plays defense plus he’s playing for a contract dude’s going to ball out n be on the best behavior
