MLB LIVE🔴 Los Angeles Dodgers vs Tampa Bay Rays – Aug 2, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
from inside Tropicana Field here in Tampa Bay. MLB the show has inner league action for you this afternoon. It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers taking on the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch coming your way next. just about to get underway. And on the hill today, number 48, Chris, his strikeout rate this year, among the best all time. He’s truly one of the elite strikeout pitchers in the league. I mean, strikeouts per nine off the charts. So the opposing team, they know they have their work cut out for him anytime they’re facing this guy or a guy like this that’s going to get the swings and misses pretty much in a class of his own when it comes to that category. Mookie bet the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one. That’s through there for a strike. And he takes that one misses. Three and one now. That one misses. So, a leadoff walk. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass. And now the DH James Outman. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Outman starting as the designated hitter. 27 years old and he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2018. Bets on at first, nobody out. swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Man, 91 on the slider right there. That’s a hard one. That’s a low end fast ball for some pitchers. Hit in the air left field. Morell. And there’s one away. Time now for Dave Roberts lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drawing walks, Chris. So, we’ll probably see a very patient approach from them. Yeah, Boo. And that’s often uh what leads to a lot of runs scored. You get runners on base, you work that pitch count up for the opposing pitchers, and then you take advantage when they make mistakes, you get into that bullpen. You could tell that everyone up and down this lineup just comes in with a great plan of attack, a lot of patience, just like you said. Will Smith the next to hit takes outside. Man at first, one away. Next offering is in for a strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing. Later on in the game, that may be a pitch that he turns on. The 1-1 is fouled off. And that one missing low. Keeps the attack going with a foul ball. He wanted that fast ball high and tight. Looking for a strikeout. Just didn’t locate it very well. Two- two on the way. Swings and misses. Struck him out. Stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. And I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle end. Kind of has putter action and it just bunches you up to where you can’t get your hands through and the barrel to it. And not much you can do unless you recognize the spin early and you spit on it. That’s in there. And the count even at one. I got one ball, one strike. That’s down and in. One strike. That one the other way. Fair ball. Ruer puts on the brakes at second. So it’s first and second with two out. And now Tay Oscar Hernandez off the mark there. One and0 right through there for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit. And now it’s one and two. Headed towards the corner. Low snags it on the run. Dodgers strand a couple. Now it’s the Rays turn. No score. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here with my pal Singi. And on the hill for the Dodgers, Big Tyler Glass now. And Singy, that may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one, but yes, you are right. This guy strike out for nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. And there’s a foul ball and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Frozen with the heater at the knees. Jonathan Aranda next to hit for the Rays. That one clips the outside corner. 0 and one. Let’s go. and ball one. One out. Base is empty. The 1-1 is fouled off. Inside. Two and two. That’s to third. Edmonds slings to first and the home first moving along quickly today. Two gone. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. Singing this righty heavy lineup is a bit unusual against a right-handed pitcher. Yeah, Boo certainly bucks the old conventional wisdom and I’m not sure I see the vision from the manager on this one. You’re not exactly putting your players in the best situation to succeed when you roll out a lineup like this. Maybe they’ve seen something on video that tells them there’s a weakness to exploit. Perhaps that’s it. Junior Camro the next to hit takes ball one. Good purpose pitch right there trying to tease him, get him to raise his sights, pop something up and make it an easy out. There’s a strike. Two outs. Base is empty. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And he deals. He goes down looking. Rays go in order. 1, two, three. We played an inning. No score. Back here at Tropicana Field, here’s the center fielder, Andy Pahes. That misses. And that’s ball one. Fast ball in the inside corner for a strike. Backto-back fast balls in. And that last one called for a strike. Probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. And that’s off the inside edge. Two and one. Just missed. Swing and a miss. And it’s a full countdown. He has a tendency to chase out of his zone and that slider that’s down. That’s one of his money pitches to get that swing and miss. Got it. And that’s the first out. And here comes Tommy Edmond. First offering and it just misses. Second inning here. No score. Swinging a foul out of play. One down. Base is empty. Slashed foul down the right side. That’ll hook off into the seats. and a one-two again. That one just misses. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one, that’s the one. When she elevates, guys aren’t touched it. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Well, Boog, I’ll tell you when he goes to look at the video of that pitch, he’s going to want to punch himself. That slider had hit me written all over it. And clearly, he just got a little too excited and was out in front. Tell you what, when you get a pitch like that, you cannot miss it. Those have a chance to go a long way. Two down. Nobody on one in the air left field down the line. Hops over the wall and that’s an automatic double. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. you get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next hitter to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. So runner at second, two down. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Estee Yuri Ruiz right down to shoot. And it’s 0 and one. looking to get on the board first here after that clutch two out double made this inning interesting. Rojos stands at second with two gone. Now one and one. That one ripped but fouled. All slider so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. Hats and misses. It’s a strike out. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. We go to the bottom of inning number two. We’re tied nothing. Nothing. Back now in Tampa Bay. Now it’s going to be Christopher Morell. Glass. Now back to work. That’s in there. That’s strike one. That fast ball at the bottom of the zone can be very effective. Just got to keep it on the corners. One and one. Ed Drummond, our umpire behind the plate in this one. Yeah, Boo. He’s a really fair umpire, both the pitchers and the hitters. So, standard strike zone, he’s consistent with it. And the great thing is you don’t see players question the calls too much. So, that’s a good thing in this day and age. Ball outside. Got some cut action to it. Velocity pretty good on that slider so far. Moving the ball around. nicely. Yeah, that’s outside. Last couple of pitches, breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Glass now ready and deals. Check swing and he went and it’s three and two. outside and that is ball four. And that’s how they get their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that wall. Johnny Duca next to hit for the Rays. That one finds the zone. Strike one. There it was. A high velocity fast ball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. And that is cut out and miss. And the count is 0 and two. That’s a ball. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. got him swinging. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance, get him out of there, and deal with the next guy. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Josh Low. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Ball one there. Next offering is fouled back. Ground ball right side and foul ball. runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Pretty simple plan of attack on the mound right there, huh? Yeah, nothing but fast balls. They just kept putting down the number one and letting it fly. I like it. Yeah, me too. And I’d love to hit against that. But of course, when you’re in the box, you think he’s bound to change speeds on you at some point. You’re just kind of locked up. Sort of like reverse psychology. Here’s the second baseman, Jose Caviierro. Not close with that one. Ball one. Two outs. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. fought off foul way high. Two strikes fans. another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. No runs, no hits, no errors, and one left. We play two full, no score. And we’re back onto the third inning. And now the shorts stop. Mookie bets Chris baseball today so many strikeouts and they are available to pitchers but this is a guy that puts the bat on the ball and is kind of different from the players that we see day in day out. Fast for a strike. Yeah, his swing is so good. It’s in the zone a long time. He gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits. and a foul ball. When you look at the elite teams in a game right now, there is going to be the slug. No question about it. But the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and miss. Yeah. And the domino effect of that is running up pitch counts on pitchers and then either getting them to a place of fatigue or getting into the bullpen perhaps before you get to those higher leverage arms at the back end. Battling here as he fouls it away. This one smacked out to left center. That’s a hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. He was all over that one. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. So now here’s the DH. James Outman fly to left his first time. popped up and that’s a foul ball. And now the one lays down a bunt to the right side. They apply the tag and the runner moves up to second. So the go-ahead run in scoring position. Will Smith to the plate. Struck out swinging his first time. This guy makes great contact. One of the best in the game and putting bat on ball. He’s got such quick hands and he’s gaining pitch recognition that keeps him square to the plate. And there’s a good chance that his back stays in the zone a long time and that produces solid contact consistently. That misses and one and one movement in the bullpen. Ryan Pepio warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Clevenger getting loose as well. Ball to strike the pitch. One out, a runner at second. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Upstairs. Really good take, especially with two strikes. That one ripped. lays out and makes the play. So, a great diving catch and that was only possible because of the route he took to get there, right Chris? Yeah. Statcast shows us just how efficient that route to the ball was. In fact, that’s about as good as it gets. Pretty much a direct line to it. And perhaps he was a wide receiver in a different life. I don’t know. But man, great job to hold on all the way through the dive as well. No fumble caused by the Brown. Freeman at the plate with two away. Swings through that one. Top of the third, no score. Hard hit left side in plenty of time to first. and Freeman is retired and that will end the inning. So, no runs here on a base hit, no errors and one left. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. We’re tied nothing nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the last of the third. And now the catcher for the Rays, Nick Forez. That clips a corner. We’re watching a former Rays pitcher today in glass now. He had plenty of good years in Tampa Bay before being traded. He’s not the first pitcher with dominant stuff the Rays have dealt. Blake Snell, David Price, and James Shields definitely come to mind. Boo. Ground ball right side. Steps on first for the out. A short stop. Taylor Taylor Walls next to hit for the Rays singing he’s never finished the season with more stolen bases in his entire career. Swinging a foul straight back. a healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. One down, base is empty and he grounds one to the right side. Rojos with the throw to first and a couple of quick outs. The batter number two, designated hitter Yandi. So, the batting order turns over. Yandi Diaz now struck out looking in the bottom of the first. Here we go. That one outside and that’s ball one. The guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. That one missed. Plus good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout and makes the play and that’s out number three. So they make short work of him there. Three innings complete, no score. Welcome back. And now on the mound to start the fourth, Ryan Pepio. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. He tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Here’s Tioscar Hernandez flying to right his first time. Hernandez 32 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. You know these Dodgers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. That one close rule the ball. One and two to count. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. stays alive. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Looked like you got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle that way if you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. You’re a little late. Opposite field not swing and a miss. Struck him out. And next for LA, Andy Pahes went down on strikes his first time through. And a slider misses down and away. Fourth inning underway. No score. Falling behind. Two and one. Just missed. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mount he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there and he walked him 124. Here’s a switch hitter Tommy Edmond. He struck out swinging at his first at bat. And that’s a strike. a little out front there as he swings through it. Look, it looked like that curve ball backed up on him and although it’s a mistake, it works out really good for the pitcher. The hitters timed it up, expects it to be to a certain spot and it just doesn’t get there. That missed by a lot. Now one and two. Fast ball is outside. That one missing inside. So, here we go. Base runner at first. Could be running on the pitch. He’s got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position, even if it’s a swing and miss at the plate. Good job to fight that one off. Ninth pitch of the at bat do next. And ball forward to a board. Take your break. Oh, looking for a swing anding miss right there or for the ump to help him out and make a call with that last pitch, but neither happened. Close pitch, but a good take to earn that walk. Two on, one out. Rojos getting ready to hit. Doubled his first time. And that one fouled off. Runners at first and second with one gone. Top half of inning number four. That one misses. One and one. Way to lay off that pitch down. Two ball in the dirt. Blocked, but no advance from the runners. They count two and one. Fast for a strike. One out. Runners at first and second. Ground ball left side could be two. Off balance feed. There’s one. And that’s two. Poetry in motion there as the second baseman turns the double play. Nice throw to first. And that’s the way to end the inning. Back here at Tropicana Field, John Chabi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Jonathan. Bottom of the zone and a called strike. All one’s the count right field. That’s back there. That one way back and it’s gone. his second homer of this series. It’s one- nothing. He just sparked this home crowd in a big way. What a swing. So, Singy, this is a little bit of a surprise. A guy known for line drives one over the fence. Well, if you’re a little too early, you’ll get some elevation in the ball. Get out of the ballpark. For him, it’s kind of a mistake. But you know what? When you have such a good approach every now and then, you’re going to run into one. So, up next, Junior Camro struck out looking his first time and that misses ball one. Well, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. ripped and he can’t glove it. It’s by him. Pretty tough for the infielder to do anything with that one. He pulled it hard into the outfield and even when you keep it on the ground, it feels great when you hit a missile like that. Christopher Morurell next to hit for the Rays. walked his first time. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. One on, nobody out. A run in. The Rays leading on the solo homer. Pitch misses. One ball, one strike. I got one ball, one strike. on the ground. Two ball off balance feed. There’s one onto first. Double play. Just got it there in time. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. And stepping in for the Rays, Johnny Duca. His first at bat was a strikeout. Foul ball. And it’s even up. Two down. Base is empty. But one run across. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swinging a foul straight back. Two down. Doon in there. got him looking and that one split the plate. The Rays kick off the scoring with a solo bomb. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now in Tampa Bay, ready now for the fifth inning. And stepping in is the speedy Estee Yuri Ruiz. Pepio back to work. That one off the mark. One and0. You know, these Dodgers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They’ve been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it’s right into a glove. But still, they’ve hit nine line drives so far, and that’s something they should feel very good about. Swings through that one for strike one. Speaking of those line drives, you can’t get too discouraged when they don’t drop in for you. It’s important to remember that you pretty much did everything right and that’s just baseball sometimes. That’s way outside. Three and two now. Highf fly ball right field. Low has it sized up. Hauls it in for the out. Back to the top of the Dodgers order. And up next for Los Angeles, Mookie Bets a walk and he’s also singled right through there for a strike. Base is empty, one away, and we’re in the top of the fifth. The next pitch misses, and that is ball one. Swing and a miss. Ugly swing right there. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes. Chases the fast up the ladder. Struck him out. Next is the designated hitter, James Outman. He’s 0 for one. slider right there. Oh, and one popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, and puts the squeeze on that one. And that is that. Dodgers down in order. They still trail one- nothing. Bottom of the inning. And now it’s going to be Josh Low. And that one is downstairs and it’s one and0 and that is out of play. check swing went around and that’s strike two. Two strikes. Ca strikes him out for the second time today. Oh, that slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Jos Cabierro next to hit for the Rays. Nasty pitch right there. Strike one. Controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. And that is in for a strike. And the count is 0 and two. And down on strikes he goes. And he’s up to eight strikeouts in this one. And here’s the catcher, Nick Forez. 0 for one. He grounded out in his first at bat. And that one fouled off. Hey, seven straight strikes to start the frame. He’s got a chance in an immaculate inning. Pitch misses outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Got close to the immaculate inning and he just couldn’t find the zone right there. When you think about it, nine straight strikes. So tough to do. Rojos tosses to first. Rays retired in order. Nothing doing for Tampa. They lead it one- nothing. We’re back and they make a change to start the sixth. The new pitcher Kevin Kelly and he’s had a struggle so far this year. As you can see, the inflated erra looking to bring that down a little bit right here. Well, one game and up to the plate is Will Smith. Go for two in this one. Rolled softly, but that goes foul. on the ground right side. Tosses to the pitcher covering the bag. One up, one down. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out. Freddy Freeman will come up to hit. One for two. So, the Dodgers are going to have to try and come from behind and try and get that offense going. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Joe Bole warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Usetta getting cranked up as well. Fouled off left side. One down, base is empty. Swing and a tapper that rolls foul. Struck him out swinging. Couldn’t hit the fast ball at the knees. At the plate, Tay Oscar Hernandez. First pitch misses and that’s fouled off. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top half of the sixth. hit hard on the ground to short. Handles, throws to first and it’s a one, two, three inning. Nothing doing here this half. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the six. It’s the Rays one and the Dodgers nothing. And we’re back. Stepping in is the switch hitting shortstop Taylor Walls. Oh, pitch is in there. That’s strike one. One inside corner and that’s called a strike. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Yandi Diaz next to hit for the Rays. runn. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. That one fouled off. Walls aboard here at first with nobody out. And now the count is even. to third. Might be two. Offbalance feed. There’s one on to Freddy. Double play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. So digging in Jonathan. He went deep back in the fourth. A pretty important swing of the bat in this ball game. Yeah, Boogie. He didn’t waste any time. He jumped all over that pitch and saw it the entire way. You talk about squaring it up. He didn’t miss a stitch on the baseball. And that’s down and away. That’s inside. He’s great hitting the ball the other way and that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. That’s in there now. Two balls in a strike. If he doesn’t get a knock right here, that pitch he just took is going to eat at him for a while. You might not see another pitch like that from a top level guy like this. That’s a slider for a strike. gets a piece and stays alive. Here’s a 2-2 swing and a miss. Struck him out. Whiff number nine for him in this game. Nine. Rays held in check here, but they’re on top one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top of inning number seven. And now the center fielder Andy Pahes right through there for a strike. They say it’s the best pitch in baseball. Strike one. You get ahead on a good hitter as well. Gives a little bit more confidence to move through the at bat. looking to get the tying run on base. Bounding ball here. Rolls foul. That missed inside. Going to count one and two. And there’s the ball. This one driven deep center field on its way. Home run. He crushes that one to center field. Home run number 20 on the year. It’s 1-1. The brighter the lights, the more he shines. Yeah, this guy lives for big moments. And right there made a statement big time. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. And the Rays manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Kevin Kelly departs and it’s a tie ball game as he heads for the dugout. Back with a new arm after a quick break. Now on the mound for the Rays, Joe Bole. And one thing on him, he’s been really good this season at keeping the ball in the par. Not an easy guy to take deep. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Tommy Edmond at the plate. He is struck out and he is walked and the first pitch misses in the dirt. Boille a 67 righty 25 years old and he was a fifth round pick in 2020. That one in the dirt and a count now two and nothing. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. And that finds the mark on the outside corner. Two balls in a strike. One strike. Ball three. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the top half of inning number seven. That’s ball four. tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Oh, you know this guy wants to swing it, but he’s showing some good patience in this one. It’s the second time he’s taken ball four. Go ahead. Run on base. Miguel Rojos at the plate and he takes a strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. And ball one and a count one and two. Clearly he was geared up for the fast right there. Maybe got a little jumpy and excited out of the hand, but he certainly didn’t miss a stitch. Got him looking for the strike out. went back to the slider and it was a good idea. Estee Yuri Ruiz now at the plate. Throw over to first. Edmond back in on a dive. misses. And here’s a slow roller. Whips it to first on the run in time. Got it. Here’s Mooki now. That misses ball one. That one is absolutely belted. Bangs off the wall. Here comes Edmond to score. And he’ll pull into second with two gone. A costly mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen. That’s a play you just want to forget about. Next is the Dodger DH James Outman. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Rudder at second. Two down. Chopper right side. And that chance handled over the first. They limit the damage here. So they get two runs on two hits. One of them left the yard midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Dodgers two. The Rays won. Back here at Tropicana Field, ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now up for Tampa Bay. Junior Camero. And that one fouled off. Check swing appeal to first and he went around just enough that time and that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. They tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. Here’s the left fielder, Christopher Morell. And a good fast ball to start him off at strike one. So, what we’re seeing is a lineup that’s just out of sync with the pitcher. They’re guessing wrong and their timing’s off. That one finds a corner. 0 and two. drilled in the air out towards right center and a couple of quick outs. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Johnny Duca, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. This pitcher has done a good job of disrupting the hitter’s timing with a mix of pitches and changing speeds. You want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter. Their swings are hesitant and that’s exactly what you want on the mound. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Offense held in check there. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Dodgers two. The Rays won. Back now in Tampa Bay. We go to the eighth. The batter now will be Will Smith. Boille back to work. Outside low and that’s ball one. Ball one. No strikes. and misses inside. Oh, he never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. And that’s outside. And now 3 and 0. That one misses. So a lead off walk just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. So now it’s Freddy Freeman one for three. First offering misses badly for ball one. maybe losing command a little bit after the walk. Next pitch, not even close. Runner on the move. Swing and a miss. One ball throw to second tag and they got him. Man, I see him trying to be aggressive right there late in this ball game. Try to add on to that lead. You know, I really like the thought, but it just didn’t work out that time. Nice job by the defense right there to keep things right where they are in terms of the score. Swinging a foul out of play. Goes down looking. Two outs, space is empty. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Tay Oscar Hernandez 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out on the outside corner. It’s 0 and one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. That misses the zone. And now it’s even one and one. That’s down and in. We got two balls, one strike. That one hit to right. Low brings it in for the third out. So, no runs in the inning despite the leadoff walk. And that does it. Last half of the eighth coming up, it’s the Dodgers two, the Rays one. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Alexis Diaz. He’s pitching on two days rest. Now it’s the right fielder, Josh Low. The right that pitch in for a strike. 0 and one. Action in the pen down there. Kirby Yates looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Bond the lefty warming up as well. Highf fly ball lifted in the air right field. Pulls it in and there’s one away. Kevin Cash going with a pinch hitter here. Jake Mangum looking to start something with one gone. in the air left field. Ruiz on the move, squeezes it and there’s two away number four. Now here is Nick Fortz. He’s grounded out a couple of times. Ball one, no strikes. Holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is downstairs. And another ball. Taylor Walls in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Next offering is in for a strike. Raised down by a run. Three to one count. Saying to himself, I’ve got to get a fast ball here. Just spins a get me over breaking ball to bring the count full. on the ground right side. Throws the first in time. Inning over. Down in order go the Rays. And our score remains 2-1. Now into the game. Number 14. He’ll play second. Here’s the center fielder, Andy Pahes. He sent one out of here in the seventh. Yeah, big moment in this game as well. It was a great swing and one of the reasons why they’re out in front and looking to add on right here. First pitch and he just misses. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Ryan Baker warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Angler also getting ready. Breaking ball inside. Ball two. There’s the strike. Really nice spot there on that 200 to get back in the count. I mean, hitters looking to turn on something, but tough pitch like that, he’s just going to take it. The next offering misses. They’re now three and one. He had a foul ball. struck him out. Looking digging in Tommy Edmond. Couple of walks and a strikeout. in the air out to center and that’ll fall for a base hit. Now batter one gone runner at first. Miguel Rojos digs in now. Fouled off down the right side. Boil with a move to first and he dives back in safely. Swinging and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the zone. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. Just misses the mark outside the zone. 02 count. You got the opportunity to expand the zone. Could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. and a swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. And next for LA, Estee Yuri Ruiz. 0 for three in this one. And first offering is fouled off. There’s the strike. Edmond off of first with two away swings through that and it’s a strikeout. He picks up his fifth strikeout on the hill. One hit, one left and 912 scheduled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Dodgers two. The Rays won. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Kirby Yates. He’s been so good against lefties. And stepping in for the Rays, Taylor Walls. You got the number nine hole hitter right here looking to do whatever he can to get on base, turn this lineup over so the best hitters in this lineup have a chance to tie up the ball game or maybe even walk it off. That’s in for a strike. One-run game. Bottom nine. Tapped at the plate, but it’s a foul ball. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Here’s the O2. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and one gone. Well, the first batter, it’s always a big one for the closure. I mean, you get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that, you know, you’re going to wrap this thing up. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Ruiz in position, brings it in and there’s two away. Now, first So, it’s their last chance in this one. And here’s the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. He’s already homerred in this game. Lifted to left and this should do it. He’ll squeeze it for the final out. And the Dodgers claim the win here behind some great pitching and defense. Well, a tight 2-1 ball game. Classic pitching and defense in this game. A lot of good execution and neither team really beat themselves by way of mistakes, but ultimately it came down to one or two key plays to make the difference for the win.
