Pirates vs. Rockies Game Highlights (8/2/25) | MLB Highlights

Well, the Rockies looking for a nice quiet first inning after yesterday when the Pirates scored nine runs on 10 hits. So, here we go. The day after that historic ball game at Coorsfield. Leo Pagarero leads it off for the Bucks. Fly ball deep left field. Leo Pagarro a no doubter. Clear the deck. Cannonball coming. Third pitch of the game. and Pagarero his second home run since coming up to the big leagues with the Pirates. He homered on Tuesday in San Francisco. Well, last night the Pirates jumped on the Rockies big time, scoring nine runs in that first inning. They’re off to a one- nothing lead here after just a couple pitches from Austin Gomeber. Paul SK takes him out here in Colorado. First time the Rockies have ever seen skins. This is his 23rd start of the year. Forget the record. It’s kind of inconsequential. He has a 183 earned run average. That is ridiculous. Swinging a flyball, a little lob shot out to center field and Cruz coming on. He’ll slide and he made the catch and brought up some earth with him. One out. There’s skins coming home. Swinging a liner caught at first base by Pagarero. Sinking liner tailing away from him and he made a nice play at first. Make a little diving play on a ball off the end of the bat. Two quick outs for skins. And so a two-out walk in Colorado and the very dangerous Warming Burnabel will come up. I’ll have to be honest, I had never heard of warming Bernabel, but he’s only been in the big leagues for a week and he’s hitting .458 with three homers and seven RBI’s. Outside runner going and safe at second is Jordan Beck. Here’s a two- two strike three call. Burnabel caught looking with a man in scoring position on the fast ball. Take a look at this flyover that happened before the game. That is four F-16 Fighting Falcons from the Air Force. And it is Air Force Day here at Korsfield. How fitting that this guy Paul Ske is on the mound on Air Force Day. On the off day on Thursday, he actually got to go back there and visit. Strikes out his second straight. That’s 148 strikeouts on the season. He came in ranked fifth in the National League in the strikeout department. Here’s last night’s hero Brentton Doyle. Another strike out. Three straight. Two up, two down here in the second. Two and two on Fernandez. And he strikes out the side in order. That’s four straight KS for Ski. Oh, how about his K’s debut? First time through the order. Nothing for the Rockies. Back to the top for Moniac. 3-2 pitch. Struck him out. 99 mph. Five Ks for Sk. One- nothing Pittsburgh. One down for Jordan Beck, who is the Rocky’s only base runner of this ball game. He had a walk back in the first inning. And here’s that payoff pitch. And he hits it in left field. That’s a base hit. First hit for the Rockies today. It comes from Jordan Beck. There goes the no hitter for Paul Skins. A solid single left for Jordan Beck who’s been on base twice now. Here’s warming Bernabel. the 10 and that’s a line shot to center field and it gets past truth back heading toward third. He’ll get a stop sign from Andy Gonzalez. Warming Burnabel has been nothing short of sensational since his call up. You can see Cruz kind of stumbling again, not knowing whether maybe to dive or not. Didn’t quite get his glove up high enough as he laid up just off the top of the glove. But Rockies have something cooking as you said Jerry. Let’s hope they can capitalize here. Little tapper. Skins quickly to the plate and he is out at home plate. Wow. What a terrific play if these this stands. They will not challenge Skow to Davis. Gets this ground ball and you thought off the bat that this was going to be trouble but Paul. Wow. What a athletic play right there. How about the play by Davis? That throw kind of sailed a little bit. Oh man. Terrific. So, Bernabell heads to third. Estrada is at first base. Brenton Doyle trying to come up with a big two out hit. Got him. Tied him up in off the plate at 100 miles an hour. Six strikeouts for Ski and a little smile. And he walked him lead off free pass to Triolo. Kinder Fez coming up in on him and a roller to short and a drop and it’s first and second. Tovar, he takes his head up for just a second. And I think he probably should have just said, you know what, you can have second base even with one out. Let me get this out at first base. We got a walk and an unforced air. So great opportunity with the top of the order coming up. Two on and nobody out. So now here’s Lev Pagarro. Hit that home run then came back and struck out in the third inning. Left field to the wall and it is gone. Clear the deck. Cannonball coming again for Pagarro. Threerun homer for Peggy. His second today and the Pirates lead four nothing. All because of Leo Pagarero with a young Fernandez leading off against Paul Schmes. One walk in the six strikeouts allowed just two hits and they were backto back last inning for the Rockies but they couldn’t score. 3-2 coming swinging and a foul tip struck him out. Seven strikeouts for skates. Yep. No messing around. Power versus power. He has a four-run lead. Just come right at him. Another strikeout. That’s eight. Eight strikeouts for Paul Skins. 02 swing fly ball right field hanging up there for Reynolds and he makes a catch and the inning ends. Paul SK threw five scoreless here in Colorado. Ski starts the inning at 73 pitches. He struck out eight, walked one, given up two hits. This ball’s ripped to right for a base hit. And Mickey has the Rocky’s third knock single here in the six with Tovar coming up. 3-2 on Tovar. That misses. So ball four. Now the Rockies have two on against Sk. Jordan Beck who has walked and singled off Skoughest out. Big moment of the ball game is correct. First and second, nobody out. This ball swatted deep right center field by Beck and it goes three home run Jordan back in. come the Rockies again. Just like that, the Rockies right back in this game. A three-run shot by Jordan Beck. Four to3 Pittsburgh. Big moment indeed. And Beck rose to the occasion. Schemes allowed two runs in July and he allowed three on that swing. And this is toward left center field. Border just keeps on hitting and he’ll arrive at second with a double. You got to love this kid. Rockies have knocked Paul Schines out of the ball game here in the sixth. Could not be more dominant for five innings. Does not record an out in the sixth inning. And rookie Braxton Ashcraft will be brought aboard. There’s a base hit to right. Bernabel is going to get a stop sign. Was hit too hard. First and third, no one out with Brent Doyle making his way to the plate. And a base hit to left. Stay high Brenton Doyle. We’re all even at four. Bernabel traps home from third base. Brent Doyle a solid single to right. Drives in a run. We are tied at four. 4-4 tie here in the bottom of the sixth inning. Next hitter is Austin Nola. Two on and one out. This ball in the air right. This is going to drop by a stride. He’s coming home. He’ll score. It’ll turn into a double. And the Rockies have a five court in. Hey, first RBI in a Rocky’s uniform for Austin Nola. Rockies have come back to take the lead. 54 here in this sixth inning. And here’s a pitch to Arcia. Ground ball is grabbed by the second base. Only plays it first. He has a sprint to get there and he does. The run scores. Rockies have taken a six to4 lead. The rain came down really, really hard for about I don’t know 35 or 40 minutes. It backed off and now we got sunshine again. And the Rockies looking for six outs to get their second win in the series. It’ll be Nick Gonzalez leading off this eighth inning for the Pirates again. 74 the Rockies have the lead. Two two pitch is a ground ball the right side. Diving grab made by Bernabel. Throws to first and got him at first base. What a play by Bernabel. What a play by Victor Vodnik at first base. Oh my goodness. What a defensive effort by the Rockies. That was impressive. Now I don’t know what was more impressive. Vodnik getting to the bag or the stop by Burnab. That was incredible. Two outs in the eighth. Now Orlando RC and then the one pitch and that one’s hit deep to left. It’s got a chance. Cruz and Swinsky back. It’s gone. It just clears the wall in left center field. Third home run this year for Orlando RC. And a big insurance run for the Rockies. Solo shot makes it eight to four Colorado. Clutch home run. 411 ft for RCA. Now Seth Halverson will be tasked with getting the final three outs. And here’s his pitch. And it’s high again. And here comes the trainer Keith Duggar and the manager out to the mound. Seth Albertson threw that last pitch and Nola signaled to the dugout. Oh yeah. After he threw that pitch, he just hung his right arm. That’s not what you want to see. Let’s hope that Seth Halverson is okay. He comes off the field. The Rockies will make a pitching change. On comes last night’s winning pitcher, Dugan Darnell. Right-hander. Two down, one out to go for the Rockies to win this series. The over Pagarro has had quite a day. He’s knocked in all four runs. Fly ball left field. Pretty deep. Leo Pagarro. A three homer game for Peggy. My goodness gracious. It is eight to five. He has driven in all five runs. Three home runs showing off the power. Impressive afternoon. Here’s Andrew McCutchen. This should do it to Tovar. Tovar taps his glove. Ball game over. Another come from behind win. The Rockies were down four to nothing. They end up winning eight to five.
