MLB LIVE🔴 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Oakland Athletics – Aug 2, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
And welcome in everybody. Glad you’re with us. Inner league baseball on MLB the show. It’s the Arizona Diamondbacks taking on the Athletics. First pitch coming at you right after the break. So, almost ready to get underway and towing the slab, JP Sears. But Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark, in front of their fans, in front of the city. And you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around. and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. All right, ready to go here. This is Corbin Carroll. Here comes the pitch. Swing and a miss. And he got him to chase. No ball. Swings and blasts one deep to left center. Soderstrom makes a move towards the gap. Won’t get to this one in the alley into second easily with a leadoff double. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. Catel Marte up to the plate. That catches the corner. 01 line drive. Base hit. Rounds third headed for the plate. He scores and they have the lead and it’s an RBI single. One- nothing. A costly mistake in the outfield thanks to the bad read and terrible timing for that to happen. That’s a play you just want to forget about. Now up next for Arizona, Heraldo Pomo. That one’s in there. Throwing one. Rudder at first with no outs here. [Applause] And that one fouled off. [Applause] [Applause] swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow right field and it falls. They get the full one out in the top of the first. Well, this is one of those plays that happens sometimes, but it never really should. Seems like you just got a bad read on the ball and the good throw from the outfield was perfect to get the out. Auheno Suarez up to the plate now. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. Suarez working on a massive campaign right now. Putting up some big home run numbers. Man, at first one away. Well, we’ve seen him flex some impressive power this season and there’s still a lot of time to go. If he can keep up this pace he’s on, we could be in for something really special. Hammers that one deep left field and forget it. A massive home run. His 37th homer of the year and they add to their lead. It’s 3 nothing. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now, Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like it was going to been foul. Was able to keep it in there, tucked it nicely, and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. So, one out, nobody on. Next up for the Diamondbacks, Adrien Del Castillo. [Applause] One out. Base is empty. Hit on the ground to short. Schuman throws to first. Two down. Time to take a look at the Diamondbacks lineup. Not a whole lot going their way offensively the last few games, Chris. Yeah, Booan. That can put more pressure on the pitching staff to try to limit the opponent to just one or two runs a game knowing that their offense is not scoring right now and that never really works well because you try to be too fine and you end up giving up a lot of runs. So, we’ll see if everybody can just relax, bring things together and perform at a level that they’re capable of. Lordis Goreel Jr. stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. [Applause] Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Two out. Space is empty on the outside corner for a strike. And it’s one and two. [Applause] knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That one in the dirt. Two and two. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the at bat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches. And he got him. Strike three and that’ll retire the side. Dbacks add a pair on the homer. It’s now 3 nothing. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back here with my pal Singy. And pitching in this game, Eduardo Rodriguez. And Chris, pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him. Yeah. Man, you don’t want to be too quick to say that he can’t pitch on the road. Sometimes, you know, it’s just a matter of luck. It’s not having a feel difference between the bullpin mound to the mound out there on the playing field. Don’t know what it is, but I know this, he’s got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home. So, we’ll see what he’s able to do in this one. That pitch in for a strike and the count even at one. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Pitch misses inside. Ball two. Two ball. Two strikes. Goes down swinging for the strikeout. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Nick Curts. And that one clips the corner. No ball, one strike. That’s a little bit low. The one-1 is fouled off. One down. Base is empty. And downstairs. [Applause] [Music] Swing and a miss for the strikeout. And that’s strikeout number 100 on the year. Well, there appears to be no problem settling in on the mound out there today. It looks pretty tough to start this one punching out the first two hitters of this ball game. And somebody’s going to have to put the bat on the ball, put it in play, and get something going and one. First two hitters get punched out on strikes. Take some notes from the dugout. When you get your chance, go up there and hit the ball hard somewhere. That one is absolutely belitted and it hits the fence around first heading for two. And that’s a double. Just so sound in his mechanics. Hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field. [Applause] So, runner at second, two down. And now here’s the A’s catcher, Shay Langalers. And that one hit to first. And he can’t come up with it. But they got the out at first. And that’ll do it for the inning. So, a two-out double, but they don’t score. One inning in the books here. It’s the Diamondbacks three and the A’s nothing. Top of the second and here’s the first baseman Tristan English Sears back to work. Fast for a strike. Singi wasn’t very sharp in the first. Got hit around a little bit. Just wasn’t able to locate particularly well. A lot of stuff at the fat part of the plate. Yeah, Boo. He wasn’t fooling anyone. It’s a tough place to be cuz it’s not always obvious what adjustments need to be made. Sometimes it’s location. Sometimes it’s being too predictable. Sometimes you’re tipping your pitches. He’s going to need to figure it out quickly, though. [Music] Fights it off. He’ll see another. Here’s the O2. Tries to hold up. Appeal to first. And he held up. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. Leading off for the Diamondbacks. Alec Thomas now. Alec Thomas. And that’s downstairs and outside. right through there for a strike. Time to look at our umpiring crew in this one. Kenny Jansen behind the plate. Yeah, and expect a little inconsistency on the corners. He doesn’t make any wild calls, but he does give and take there a little bit. So he doesn’t have the easiest strike zone to figure out, especially as the game goes on when you’re expecting it to become more consistent. Next off, he’s in for a strike. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] Oh, he botches it. And no shot to get him at first. There’s two aboard. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. Next to hit, Jos Herrera. And that one is lifted in the air. It’s going to fall for a hit. Headed for the plate. Now a long throw home in there. He scores. It’s five nothing. Couple of singles back to back. High fast ball even a little above the zone. But such a good job of staying tall on the backside getting that barrel there to meet it just in time. I tell you what, it’s not easy to do. Next to hit for Arizona, Corbin Carroll doubled his first time up. That’s a strike thanks to the sweeper. [Applause] I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up on the ground. Two ball. Off balance feed. There’s one. And that’s all they’ll get. Now batting second baseman Patel Marte. An outstanding hitter in Catel Marte RBI single his last time up. Here comes the pitch. There goes the runner from first. Throw save. That’s a stolen base. Clearly not content with the lead they’re working with right now. And I like that. I don’t think you can get comfortable with a fiveun lead in today’s game. And now they’ve got a good chance of adding on. man at second. That one ripped right center field and it one hops the wall. Runner from second scores as they add on. Well, that was a great job of letting that runner steal second base, get into scoring position, come through with the base knock, you add a run. There comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. JP Sears will depart and he’s responsible for the runner on second so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for the number 50 taking over on the mound. He pitched yesterday and we’ll see him once again. So digging in Heraldo Purdomo 0 for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. 01 [Applause] and that’s a base hit. Stop sign goes up at third. Runners at the corners with one out. Third baseman Auhaneo Suarez. Aueno Suarez up to hit now. He’s already homered in this game. [Music] [Applause] This one in the dirt. Well done behind the dish. [Applause] Two balls, no strikes the count. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. [Applause] Ground ball left side. Could be two. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. They limit the damage here. Three runs on four hits. No errors. and one left off. We go to the bottom of inning number two. It’s the Diamondback six and the A’s nothing and we’re back. Bottom of the second leading off Tyler Sodro clearly down in this ball game and you can’t look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing. It’s got to come one atbat at a time and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch. Make that guy on the mound work to get you out. There’s a strike. This is one of those times when you want to be aggressive. Go ahead and pitch to contact. Let the defense work behind you. You’ve got a nice comfortable lead. Don’t try to be too fine. Next offering is foulback. Just off the outside edge there and that’s ball one way high two [Applause] outside. [Applause] Fouls that off to the left and will do it again to the right side. Marte. That’s one out in the bottom of the second. Batting six, third baseman, Miguel Anduhar. Here’s Miguel Anduhar. Sing, you talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. And there’s the strike. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Hauls it in for the out. Batting seventh. Right fielder Carlos. Two out. Space is empty. Next up for the A’s, Carlos Cortez. Carlos. Ball on there. I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. And that’s off the inside edge. Now two and 0. And there’s the strike. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Yeah, big swing and a miss. Two balls, two strikes. Misses outside and it’s three and two. Got it. That K is his third of the game. Nothing doing there for the A’s. Still up against a 6 nothing deficit. And welcome back to the ballpark. New inning getting started. And here is Adrien Del Castillo. That’s off the mark. One and0. Well, these Diamondbacks really producing with runners on. It’s been a right place, right time kind of game for them. They’ve been delivering when it matters most. Batting over 750 with runners in scoring position so far. It’s been impressive to watch. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. And there’s a ball. That one the other way. And that’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Everything came together for him. pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap. And I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle. So many positives that led to that knock. Here’s Lordis Guriel Jr. that misses the zone. Ball one. And that’s downed away. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 200. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Three and O. and fires in a fast ball at 95. Del Castillo aboard here at first with nobody out. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another baby and he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Now batting the first Tristan English will hit next. There’s the strike 01. Liner snagged at first. dives for the bag. Got him. Double play. Bottom of the inning. Now it’s the shortstop. Max Schum athletics. Short stop Max Schuman. And first offering is fouled off. The shorts stop takes a ball. So a foul ball makes it one and two. That’s inside. [Applause] [Music] Swanging a ground ball. Throws across the diamond. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Batting ninth. Second baseman. Luis Orias. Here’s Luis Orias. How about this one, Boog? In 2023, Aras hit grand slams for Boston in back-to back plate appearances. They happened on different days, but he still became the first Red Sox player to do it since Jimmy Fox in 1940. [Music] One down, base is empty. And that one off the outside edge out to short. Perdomo on to first and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Lawrence Butler back to the top of the lineup. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s. Lawrence Butler 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. And the first offering is not close. That one missed [Applause] swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field. That’ll touch down for a hit. And that’s a double. Well, when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. [Applause] Nick Curts now at the plate. Struck out swinging his first time. And that’s through there for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Runner at second. Two down here in the last half of the third. That one pushed to the left and fouled. Swings and misses. Struck him out. The A’s strand one. They still find themselves down six zip. And we’re back. John Chi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth, Alec Thomas. Let’s go to Gold, baby. Let’s go. That just misses. Ball one. One ball. No strikes. just missed. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s back in one. Hops off the wall. Should be extra bases and that’s a leadoff double. Wasting no time. Two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. So, a man aboard and here’s the catcher, Jose Herrera. Let’s go and go, baby. Let’s go. And it’s fouled away. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. Top half of inning number four. Come on. Athletics 1-1. Just missed. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So, I think the confidence level is raised right here. Next offering in there for a strike. Two and two now. Ball three. Squirts away a little bit. It will count. Blind drive. That’s a base hit into right field. And they get it in quickly. First and third now with nobody out. Right fielder Corbin Carroll. So, back to the top of the Arizona lineup. Corbin Carroll getting ready to hit. One for two. Pitch is in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Righty delivers. There’s a strike. Well, in this situation with a runner on first, less than two outs. Some say, “Hey, get the ground ball, double play with two strikes, some people say get the strike out.” I think you just execute your pitch. Make the best pitch you possibly can and let the result be whatever it’s going to be. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Cortez makes the play. Runner tags from third. He’s in on the sack fly. And they’re pulling away up by seven now. Second baseman, Catel Marte. Here’s Catel Marte singing. He’s a guy that covers both sides of the plate about as well as anyone in the sport. How difficult is that to do? Oh, just look at the back of my bubble gum card. You’ll see how hard it is. These guys are great, man. They have the ability to look out there, but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch. Those that can really sharpen things on the outer half, those are the ones that become elite. Swings and misses and it’s one and one. I think he was sitting off speed there on the ground to first. Quick feed to second for one. Back to the pitcher covering. It’s a double play. Nicely done. And that’ll do it. But they push across one run on two base hits. No errors, no one left. And midway in the fourth, it’s the Diamondback seven and the A’s nothing. Ready to go. Bottom four now. The A’s designated hitter, Brent Rooker. Brent Rooker. [Applause] That one outside and it’s one and0. [Applause] [Music] And that one cutting but missing down low. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. Two balls, two strikes. Full count. Smoked on the ground. A second. Marte throws to first in time. One up, one down. Now batting catcher Shay Langalers. Shay Langalers up next for the A’s. Grounded out. His first time off. Fast ball for a strike. Slice down the right side. The A’s with a lot of ground to make up. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Next pitch misses way outside. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. Good late cut for the strike out there. That thing really got in on him and the cutter isn’t really a huge swinging miss pitch most of the time because it’s not really meant to move a whole lot. You’re just trying to miss the big part of the barrel and maybe get some weak contact. But that one right there did a whole lot more than that. That was a really good pitch. And there’s a fly ball deep right field. And that one is going to go. He nails one out to right. Home run number 20 on the year. And they’re on the board. It’s 71. Well, there goes the shut out. Just like that. They’re still behind, but this is a start. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast. So two away with nobody on. Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s. Little bit low and that is ball one. [Applause] Swing and a foul. Pushed off to the right and that will get out of play. [Applause] Right through there for a strike. ball [Applause] on the ground of first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. But a solo home run will at least get this closer to respectability. It’s 71. And welcome back to the ballpark. And now the shorts stop Peraldo Po for the Diamondbacks. Short stop Heraldo Peromo. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Jacob Lopez getting ready to go. [Music] This one in the air on Duhar moving under this one. Pulls it in and there’s one away. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Suarez. Au Heno Suarez digs in now. He’s already homerred here in this one. to go. Bring him home. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So, a man aboard now with one away. Now batting the designated hitter, Adrien Del. Adrien Del Castillo stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Very high with that one. And that’s ball one. Del Castillo measures 5′ 10 in, 25 years old. And he’s usually a catcher. Today he gets off his legs a bit. He’s the DH up the middle. Urias and he beats it. He’s safe. Now batting left fielder Lordis Guriel Jr. So one out with two aboard. Lordis Guriel Jr. stands in now for the Diamondbacks. Bowl for two in this one. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. check swing, no appeal. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitter count at 2 and 0. This one popped up right side. Kurts has a beat on it. He makes the catch and there’s two down. [Applause] Now batting the first baseman, Tristan English. So first and second with two outs. Tristan English stands in now for the Diamondbacks. He’s 0 for one. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. on the ground right side and foul ball. First and second, two down and we’re in the top of the fifth in the dirt. The next pitch misses. Two balls, two strikes. He’s trying to stay down in the zone, but the hitter just will not chase. Now back in a two- two count. He’s going to have to go to something else to get him out. That misses the zone and a full countdown. gets a piece and stays alive. Let’s go. In the air, pretty deep out to center field. Butler has this one sized up, nabs it, and that is that. No runs, a hit, two left. Last half of the fifth coming up, it’s the Diamondback seven and the A’s won. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Digging in. Carlos Cortez. Carlos Cortez. Rodriguez back to work. That one finds the zone. Strike one. You know, these athletics, from what we’ve seen, I think it’s fair to wonder if they’ve been too patient at the plate. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count, and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense. Next pitch is outside. And that one cutting but missing down low. Ground ball to the right side, Marte. And that’s the first out in the bottom of the fifth. Now batting shortstop, Max Schuman. Max Schuman up next for the A’s. First time up, he grounded to third. fast ball for a strike. Well, he’s been incredibly efficient in this one. First pitch strike percentage over 70%. That’s well above league average. And that’s what’s allowed him to pitch well up until this point. 02. Got him looking. So, he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. Now batting Luis Ras up next for the A’s grounded out his first time. That’s in there. That’s strike one. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Full one. And they’ll do it again. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. Hard hit left side. Peromo on the first. The A’s go quietly and the A’s are gone in order. They’re down 7 to one. And we’re back. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. And now the center fielder Alec Thomas that catches the top part of the zone going on. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Jacob Lopez appears to be getting loose. swings through that. No ball. Two strikes. Well, he missed badly with that 02 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. Popped in the air left field. Soderstrom brings it in and there’s one down. [Applause] Jose Herrera stands in now for the Diamondbacks. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Fought off foul. The Diamondbacks up big in this one. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. So the batting order turns over. Corbin Carroll stands in now for the Diamondbacks. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most check swing called strike. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive. Oh, that’s a strike out and that’ll do it for the inning. So, they go quietly there. Top of the order, two up in the home half of the six. It’s the Diamondbacks seven and the A’s won. Bottom of the sixth inning. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. [Applause] 10 action in the pen down there. Anthony Dclifani up and throwing for manager Tory Lavell. Woodford getting loose as well. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. One up, one down. Now batting the first baseman, Nick Curts. Now the number two hitter, Nick Curts, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. And first offering is fouled off. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the six and ball one. [Applause] Well, you can’t really adjust your game plan for that last pitch. Guy hasn’t thrown it very much. You got to focus on the stuff that he’s throwing up there most of the time. And that’s way high. And it’s two and two. [Applause] Hit on the ground to short. Peromo on to first. Two up, two down. Oh, boo. We talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The weight comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. missed with a change up. And that’s ball one. One ball, no strikes. And another ball. Come on. I’m ready. in for a strike and it’s two and one and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Swung on, popped up on the infield. English pulls it down and he makes the catch. That is the inning. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the bound, Elvis Alvarado. He’s got some of the best swing and miss stuff going right now. He’s striking out hitters at a very high rate this year. So, this should be fun to watch. And now it’s the switch hitting second baseman, Catel Marte. Catel Marte. Fast ball is outside. The next offering misses and now two and0. Good purpose pitch right there. Trying to tease him, get him to raise his sights, pop something up, and make it an easy out. That’s inside. Ball three. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. That just came apart right there. four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. Mad at first. Now at the plate, Peralo Purdomo one for three. Climb the ladder with that fast ball and that is strike one. ball outside. Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though, Drew. Marte gets his lead at first with nobody out. [Applause] Drilled in the air out towards right center. reaching for it and brings it in. Got to love the over the shoulder catch. I tell you what, those are really fun to make. Up next for the Diamondbacks, third baseman, Au Haneo Suarez. Now, here’s the cleanup hitter for Arizona, Au Heno Suarez. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Let’s go to golf, baby. Let’s go. Next offering is fouled back. Next one misses and a count one and two. One, two. And that’s outside. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an offspe pitch. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. And now it’s going to be Adrien Del Castillo. First pitch just misses. two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. Two on, one out and another ball. Here’s a two- misses as well. One out. Runners at first and second. And that is out of play. Fouled off left side. [Applause] Let’s go. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Runners at first and second with one gone here in the top half of inning number seven. You got this. Good job to fight that one off. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. You got this. Got him swinging. Up next for three in this one. Inside corner and that’s called a strike. That’s a slider for a strike. Man, I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to bear down. Those last two pitches were well executed. [Applause] Two on, two outs. Just off the outside edge. One ball, two strikes. That misses the zone and the count is two and two. [Music] stays alive. First and second, two down. And that one finds its way through. Here’s the throw to the plate. And he can’t come up with it. Now batting first baseman Tristan. So two on two away. Now up next for Arizona, Tristan English in the air right field. Cortez sizes this one up and that’s the third out. One run in the inning, but they leave two. Midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. It’s the Diamondbacks eight and the A’s won. Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Anthony Dclani compared to Sundays. This is a pretty low leverage appearance for him. So he should be fairly free and easy out there. Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone. And now here’s the A’s catcher Shay Langalers. This is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively. Fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate. Good game caller, good at framing, but it’s that big arm that really stands out. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. You come into the game knowing that unless the ball’s in the dirt or gets by him, we’re probably not going to steal anything today. So, that’s where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits, some slog, some home runs can come into play. in the air right side. Carol under this one hauls it in for the owl. One away. Now batting left fielder. Tyler Sod up next for the A’s. [Applause] First off, offering it just misses. Dese Clefani. He’s someone that fills up the strike zone. So, he doesn’t give up a lot of walks, but because he’s in the zone so much, a decent amount of hits occur right down to shoot and it’s one and one. And he’s got to get ahead early in the count and then be able to mix up his speeds, add and subtract some velocity, but command is the big key. Throwing the ball where he wants to. Next pitch misses outside and now three and one popped up. Pertomo and puts the squeeze on that one and there’s two down. Up next for the A’s third baseman Miguel. Two down base is empty. Miguel Anduhar up next for the A’s. First pitch misses. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. That misses. And that’s ball two. [Applause] And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Swang and a ball lifted in the air and it stays fair. So a man at first, Carlos Cortez will hit next. Go to bring him home. Swing and a miss as he was out front that time. On Duhar the runner at first with two gone. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the best pitch you’ll see in this at bat to hit. Two outs. Foul tip into the mix. Struck him out. The A’s strand one. It’s still an 81 ball game. Now P. Welcome back. get a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Jacob Lopez. Well, they need someone to stop the bleed and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging. Alec Thomas centerfielder Alec Thomas inside just missed Lopez a tall lefty 220 lbs and they went out and made a trade for him last season right through there for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Fouls it off. Still one and two. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. In the air, left field. Sodrom makes the grab. One down. Now batting catcher Jose Herrera. And now the switch in catcher Jose Herrera. That’s in there. Strike one. Activity in the bullpen. Ben Bowden the lefty looks to be getting himself ready. Nukem warming up as well. One down, base is empty. He swings and fouls one off. Honest. It’s a strike out. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. Carol the next to hit takes outside. The Dbacks up big in this one and we’re in the top of the eighth. And the slider just misses. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. You can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch, but just a little tardy on the fast ball. Next offering misses. Three balls in a strike. Catel Marte on deck for Arizona. 3-1 is on the way. Ground ball right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. And the Diamondbacks down in order. And it remains an 8 to one game. It’s a bit of a blowout now, which gives us a bit more freedom here in the booth. I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Sing when you played, how much of a fashionista were you? Would you come to the ballpark dressed to the nines? No, I wouldn’t. Even on the road trips, I was, you know, pretty average. There were some guys that would dial it up and there’d be some outfits where you’re kind of double taking and saying, “Where in the world are you going?” But overall, I’d say I kept it low-key. Outside corner, there’s a strike. Yeah, you see some guys into the fashion nowadays and big on uh on the gram, as the kids like to say. Post their their fits, right? That’s what that what you say. That is that what it is? Fits. The fit. Your fit. Your outfit. You’re fit. Got a little drip around the neck, too. Yeah. Believe it. Scale of 1 to 10, how old do we sound right now? Uh really old like close to social security benefits. Yeah. And a 3-1 on the way. That one fouled off. [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walk. A great back and forth in that at bat. Play off some really close pitches. Somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Up to the third time as he lays off inside ball one. Next offering is downstairs. And another ball and ball four to a board. Definitely lost the handle during that sequence. Four pitches for the walk and that last one didn’t even threaten the zone. Catcher might want to go talk to him. So, back to the top of the order. Next up for the A’s, Lawrence Butler. Swing and a miss. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Pretty well struck. That one’s deep onto the track and he makes the catch. Runner tags at second and he makes it up to third with one away. Now batting first baseman Nick Curts. Two on with one out. Nick Curts the next to hit. 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one. Well, in this situation with runners on, you got to get ahead in the cal so that you can dictate the rest of the at bat. Nice job right there. And a curve is down and in. One, two. battling here as he fouls it away. Two on, one out. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Just off the inside corner. Now two and two. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Two-2 now out towards right center. That’s well struck and it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases coming home. The relay he’ll score. Two runs are in and it’s 83. Gets the job done as he brings home a pair. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. Now the Diamondbacks manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. That’s it for Dcliffani and as he heads for the dugout, we’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now pitching for they hand the ball over to a new arm, Jake Woodford, and he has some nasty breaking stuff. One out, runner at second. Brent Rooker digs in now. And a foul ball. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. That’s that slurf right there. He threw it extremely well. And talk about just a ton of break. So tough to get that barrel to. [Applause] Good eye in that spot. [Applause] Line to left and foul ball. Man at second. Set down on strikes. He’s got to be frustrated with that call. So, he gets the call and picks up the strike out looking. Sometimes with a good hitter at the plate, he’ll be the one to get the benefit of the doubt if he lays off on a close pitch like that. But just not right there. Strike zone definitely expand a little bit with two strikes. And now a chance for Shay Langalers 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. That’s in for a strike on the outside corner. 4 and one. [Applause] [Applause] Swings through it and that’s a strike out. But they’ll pick up a couple runs here. Both coming on this two-run double. It’s now 83. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the second base, Catel Mart. Marte Lopez back to work. Splits the plate. It’s 0 and one. So impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch. That’s the key. Try to get ahead in the count and you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands. [Applause] Soft contact in the air and base hit and a good start to the inning. Now batting short stop heraldo. The batter will be the short stop. Peraldo Peromo. [Applause] Breaking ball misses down and away. [Applause] Here’s the pitch. Runner on the go on the ground to third. Sends it across to first. No chance at the double play with the runner in motion. Now batting third baseman, Au Heno Suarez. So now it’s the four-hole hitter, Au Heno Suarez [Applause] on the ground. And that’s just foul. Just off the inside edge. Great take right there. Showed some really good discipline. Breaking ball coming in. You see it well, but don’t trust that it’s going to hang on for a strike. Nice job. Fast ball for a strike. Marte leads off second with one gone in the inning. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Now the And next is the designated hitter, Adrien Del Castillo. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. [Applause] Late swing fouled to the left. Two outs and one in scoring position. [Applause] And that’s a strike. He’s clearly out there throwing pitchers pitches in this situation. First base is open. He walks him. No big deal. [Applause] Swing and a popup. And Duhar snags it. And that is that. One hit, one left. Five, six, and seven will lead things off in the bottom of the ninth. It’s the Diamondbacks eight and the A’s three. Bottom of the ninth. Here’s the left fielder, Tyler Soder. Left fielder, Tyler Sodro. [Applause] And first off is fouled off. [Applause] Yeah, there’s a ball. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] That one misses and a count. Two on one. And that one missing low. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient. showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. And that one fouled off. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] That one misses. So a lead off walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that next up for the A’s, Miguel Anduhar. [Applause] And the first pitch misses for ball one. One ball, no strike. That one out to right. Brings it in. And now Carlos Cortez. Right fielder. Carlos Cortez. [Applause] Highf fly ball right field. Carol under it and there are two outs. Now batting shorts stop Max Schuman. So they’re down to their final out now. A chance for Max Schuman. [Applause] Slice the other way. That’s a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Yeah, Betty. Second base. Now it’s the second base Luis Rias. [Applause] Base hit center field coming home. [Applause] He will score. It’s an RBI single and it’s 84. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Jake Woodford gives way and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for Kevin Gle on to try and close it out and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings so he’ll be tough to get to. Now here’s the leadoff hitter for the Arence Butler one for four with a double. These are the moments you dream of as a hitter. Bottom of the ninth with a chance to tie or win the game. It’s time to live up to the big moment. [Applause] That one finds the zone. And that’s strike one. Traffic on the bases with one already in. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. And that one is inside. They say it went one ball, two strikes. This could end it. That’s down and in. Q ball. Two strikes. [Applause] the other way. That’s a hit. Coming home, the throw in. Tag got in. And that’s the ball game. Sometimes road trips can be tough. You’re away from your family, but when you can win, silence that opposing crowd, it makes things just a little bit better. Makes the road trip just a little bit shorter. And our final here today, 84 for Chris Singleton and our entire crew. I’m John Shambi saying so long.
