Nate Wiggins: I Feel Like I’m Stronger and Faster | Baltimore Ravens

Nate, I know you’ve only been a teammate with Jira for a little bit, but how would you kind of describe him? Uh, yeah, man. He he one he one of one, man. Uh, him and Marlo. Uh, I mean, you can’t compare them dudes. I mean, like, they just one of one. I mean, great great teammates, great dudes to be around. They just I mean, hyper. They going to bring the energy. I mean, and yeah, that’s what we need on the team, somebody who can bring the energy to the team. What’s his impact been on you? Uh Chuck mentioned that Jire had a DB night the other night. I don’t know if you heard that, but what’s just been his influence on on you? Yeah. Uh soon he came to the team. He said he was going to bring the energy. He here to teach us. U whatever we need, he here. So, um he been a great impact. Just like you said, uh the first week he came, he said we going to come to his house. So, I mean, he just he bring the joy. I mean, yeah. Like he he a great fit to the DB room. Yeah. like every coach that we’ve asked about you, they say got every every component. It’s just consistency. It’s it’s it’s, you know, bringing what you have every day. Would you agree with that? And how do you what’s your end on that? How do you get there? Uh yes, I totally agree on that. And just practicing every day. I mean, getting getting reps every day, getting better. I mean, uh, I ain’t perfect, so I mean, I’m going mess up time to time, but I mean, just being, uh, just being consistent, just like they said, just practicing every day, coming to work, uh, no no missing days and just keep working. Hey, Coach Logano, he said the game is slowing down for you. Can you give your perspective on that and how that’s kind of helping you get better? Uh yeah, just like seeing the routes concept, getting know getting to know uh just like the NFL better and just uh concept of the routes, how deep the route is. So I feel like last year I was just playing with my talent and what what God will give me. So this year, I mean, it’s going to be a totally different ball game. This year I know now I know like the routes, how how they want to do the routes, how they want to run the routes. So now it’s like it just slowing down everything everything going to me now. Does that comfortability of kind of knowing what you’re seeing? Do you feel like that allows you to be more aggressive at times to make a play on the ball? Yeah, just knowing where my help at at times, just like you said, knowing where my help at, knowing where Kyle at, knowing Marlo at. So, that’s going to make me make more plays on the ball this year and just knowing the defense. Last year, I really didn’t know the defense. I was just out there like I said. So, this year, I know the defense now. So, uh, now it’s just about playing fast and just going to get the ball, taking the ball. You talked about adding weight this off season. How has that felt with the pads coming on? Do you feel like you’re just as fast as you were before? Oh yeah, I feel great actually. Uh I feel like I’m more faster now. I can uh take take on blocks now. Um I’m very I’m stronger now. So uh yeah, I mean yeah. Has there been someone that you really leaned on as you tried to learn that mental side of the game? Since Zer came in. I mean that’s the guy I leaned on cuz I mean me and him we just I mean I mean he a playful dude. I’m a playful dude. So I mean we kick we we get along just right. So, I mean, he took me under his wing when he first we first came in. I mean, we never looked back. So, me just Yeah, we buddies. What’s What’s different about Chuck Pagano coming in this year? What does he bring to the to the coaching? He bring he bring whatever whatever you need for real. If you if you don’t got a off day, he going to pick you up. I mean, he bring the energy. I mean, he know a lot of ball. I mean, you can tell he coached coach for a long time, so he know a lot of ball. I mean, he coach Reed, so I mean, he coach Hall of Famer. So, I mean, why why would you not want to do it like that who who know everything, you know what I mean? So, there’s been a lot more talk about getting takeaways this season, you know, comparing it to the the Hall of Fame defensive players, right? I mean, do you take a lot more pride in that with that message? I mean, just trying to get those takeaways and how have you responded to that message so far? Uh, yeah, this year this year it just this year is about uh make getting takeaways for me. So that’s the big big thing I want to work on. Just I know I dropped plenty last year. So this way it’s just about catching it and just getting cuz the ball going to come.

  1. Nate's gon lead the league in ints this year. He was in position every play that came his way he just wasn't getting his head around fast enough. Year 2 is gonna be BIG for him.

  2. What an awesome grab it was to get Jaire! I didn’t even think about the mentor aspect. No offense to Marlo but I feel Jaire will be much more impactful than Marlo in that area
