I saw this Illinois St. Louis Cardinals plate in the wild a week ago. I was dumbfounded by it. I drove by it again in the parking lot just to make sure it was a legit Illinois plate. Gross.

Rural imaginary intelligence people live there. Central Illinois, a bunch of fucking losers that will never amount to anything, but they will cheer for the Cardinals from their trailers.
You know what they say- south of I-80 is the south.

90% of southern Illinois is cardinals fans. I grew up there and baseball season was fucking miserable.

Central and Southern Illinois had both KPLR and WGN, so growing up, my town was split Cubs / Cards. Plus the Springfield Cardinals was a minor league affiliate at one point. So yes, downstate, there are a lot of Cards fans.
But don’t y’all worry, as I got you covered. Living in STL now, proudly wearing Cubs gear.

Central Illinois (Springfield) is about 50-50 Cubs vs Cards. Very very few down state are White Sox fans

The harsh reality is, parts of Illinois are closer to St Louis and Memphis TN (also Cardinals territory) than they are Chicago and don’t have any reason to cheer for our sports teams.
I kinda get where the state is coming from by offering a Cardinals plate, especially when St Louis literally borders Illinois. I’m guessing southern Illinois is loaded with Cardinals fans
In central IL, you live on the front lines of this war. I know all you in the city hate the Sox, but I grew up with Cardinal fans calling me mentally deficient because of my choice in baseball teams. I hate the Cardinals with a red hot seething passion.

I’m from New England. This is like having New York Yankee tags here. What is the IL DMV thinking with this one?!
My consumer ed teacher in high school would just get the old school IL nature plate (that had a painting of a cardinal on it) and put FAN 24 so it was after the cardinal illustration. Very clever like many of his teachings, but also aggravating because he was so proud of it
