We’ve had a football game, Hall of Fame game, some thoughts there as much as you can take away from a game of that nature. I want to look at the 2026 eligibles for the Hall of Fame as well. And the big news of the day, of course, is Micah Parsons and Terry McLaren. Those contracts we knew were not going well with those players and those teams striking a deal, but uh things have gotten a little bit more serious in both of those cases now with official trade requests from those star players from those teams. And we’ve got to start, I guess, with Micah Parsons. And that’s the latest one. There was a report yesterday from Diana Rsini that uh he was unhappy that talks have fallen apart between the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons and that maybe even a trade request could be something on the horizon. And lo and behold, the source on the trade request is Micah Parsons himself. So, uh I want to go through the uh the Rini report. She basically said the the Michael Parsons Cowboys relationship had deteriorated to the point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures and uh even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team per multiple league sources familiar with the situation. The two sides remain far apart heading into the second week of training camp and are not currently negotiating even though Michael Parsons did show up to camp and it seemed like there was some good faith maneuvering happening there as camp started. That is all falling apart now. And what really is striking about this is an I want a new deal or be traded. Michael Parson said goodbye to the Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, he’s from what I understand he is a pretty extreme personality. Yeah. I mean, like he was all in on the Cowboys leadership. Came back from injury, was great player, and I think he just kind of flipped the switch and said, “You guys aren’t giving me where I want and I’m out of here.” And I know that he’s caused waves on his podcast apparently, too. And not everybody loves that portion of it. And Dallas now has this history of being really late to like the last team to sign CD Lamb, Dak Prescott, you know, like they wait till the last minute and it gets more and more and more expensive. And I assume the Watt contract is also instigating this to some degree that okay, he got more than I thought and I want 10% more than that. And I don’t know if you agree BP, but I think he’s the most valuable either in terms of draft pick compensation or contract or whatever defensive player in the whole league. You know, when you’re factoring in age and what you’re getting and what’s in front of them, he’s my first pick if I get one defensive player. Yes. Oh, no doubt. 26y old Micah Parsons is the most valuable defensive player in the NFL. The most valuable non-quarterback probably in the Probably. Yeah. We could play Chase or lineman, right? But I think tackles I’d take him over Jamar Chase. Yeah. Yeah. He He’s that much of a differencemaker, that much of a a freak athlete and and player. And you can hear his whole uh read his whole statement. Micah Parsons 11 on Twitter is where I’m looking at it. And he says, “Thank you, Dallas.” with some emojis. and he goes, “Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star in my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make America’s team uh and uh the best fans in sports and make this America’s team once again.” A little little shot saying that they’re not Americans. Yeah, a little bit. Interesting there. Uh which I find funny. Obviously, not being a Cowboys fan. Cowboys fans would be like, “Hey, wait a second. Whether you’re here or not, we’re still America’s team. Gosh dang it.” um uh the team my pops and I grew up cheering for in Harrisburg, PA. And so it’s a it’s a really long statement. Uh yeah, I saw it was super long. Yeah. And he’s basically like, I don’t want narratives created by the media. So he made his own statement and and put it all out there and he said, “Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years, or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet. But again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives, I have made a tough decision. I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally. Wow. He says he is done with the Dallas Cowboys. This isn’t I want a deal or be traded. This is I don’t want a deal. I want to be traded. I can’t remember how far Miles Garrett went. You know, did he say I’m never going to be a Brown again or did he say I want a deal or I won’t get traded? You know what I mean? Like pretty darn definite sounding from what I remember. I remember that too. Right. Yeah. So, it doesn’t mean it’s a done deal. And we’re probably going to save conversation McLaren. I would think that the odds are that McLaren’s a commander and Parson’s a cowboy, but he seems more dug in than the usual hold out trade demand guy, you know. And maybe that’s just an instant reaction by me or an overreaction by me, but man, I mean, can you imagine him on the Lions? I mean, there’s so many teams that would give a lot for him, and the days of two first round picks for Khalil Mack or Jamal Adams and paying them seem to be over unless it’s for this guy. This is the the most valuable thing potentially if he’s moved since Khil Mack. I don’t know if it would get to the Khil Mack level because money is crazier now than it was then. Right. Right. Right. Um that might be a thing of the past is those type of deals. It was still a pretty darn big deal moneywise too at the time, which was Oh, yeah. He was paid, right? In his prime, the Raiders. The trade then was two first round picks. The Bears had to also re-up um Mike Cleo Mack for all that money. Uh it was not only two first round picks going to the Oakland Raiders, it was a third round pick, a sixth round pick. Um, then it was for Mac, a second, and a conditional fifth. So, let’s figure this out. So, two firsts, a third, and a sixth. For Mac, a second, and a conditional fifth. So, that’s actually pretty close. I look at it, it’s kind of less than two firsts because that second coming back’s nice. Second coming back and a third going the other way. Okay. And so, for me, if you said, okay, what what in the end your team calls Like you’re a GM, you call the Cowboys and you have to give them an offer that would be considered in a serious offer. I would have said two first round picks. Yeah. Yeah. Especially if you’re a contender like the Lions that aren’t going to probably have an early first, you know, like that’s not the same as, you know, the Panthers saying, “I’m going to give you a first.” Exactly. Exactly. And if you look at the Vegas odds, I I saw um some odds about what team Micah Parsons would play for. I was a little bit surprised seeing teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers on there. Not that they’re teams that maybe would want to play for, but you think the Dallas Cowboys going to trade Michael Parsons to the Philadelphia Eagles or Washington Commanders inside the division or longtime rival San Francisco 49ers? No chance. Maybe you ship them off to the uh I’m not even sure about like Detroit. Yeah, even Detroit just because like the the team that I see the most likely if I was like, “Okay, let’s make a deal. Let’s make something happen. Your first round pick might be high enough to entice, but uh that would be the New England Patriots. H interesting. I mean, I actually was going to bring them up for Mclloren, too. I I was thinking why not? Let’s Yeah, take them both. Let’s I I mean, I look at contenders like the Lions and the Bucks, you know, teams like that and but they’re mostly NFC teams. What about like even Kansas City or, you know, I mean, the Bills? I know they signed Von Miller, but man, I mean, who isn’t interested? Yeah, like the Bills would be such a phenomenal fit, but they’ve done so much this off season already. Then it’s like tough kind of made their beds and so which team has cap space in August? And I guess if you did a new deal, you probably your current cap space isn’t as big of a problem. Yeah, I think you can make that. future deals. So even he’s gonna have a massive contract. Like I think he gets more than Watt by a lot. For sure. Like 42. So was Garrett got 40. Watt got 41 per year, right? But more guaranteed. No chance that Parson it might be 45. Yeah. Especially if it’s another team. You start getting a bidding war teams that want in. You’re going to give up to Kawi’s have to allow him to seek trade. It would be like the next thing. Yeah, I guess that is the next step. Maybe that comes out tomorrow or this weekend or maybe a deal gets done when we get back, right? I don’t do that at all. I’m like, okay, sit out and lose money, Michael Parsons, right? That’s the only thing the Cowboys can do at this point. Unless they really would be willing to trade him, in which case you let a bidding war ensue. Maybe they would be. I have mixed feelings on that. I don’t know why. I mean, it’s gone so long. And if they think he is a distraction or not worth the money, but still if I’m invested in anybody, it’s him. I mean, I would have traded away Dak and CD Lamb both and signed Parsons last year if you thought that Parson. Yeah. Yeah. Of the three of them, he was the easiest one to lock up to me, right? Yeah. The most obvious Dallas is you have to be willing to go to the top of the market. So my next question is that we’ll talk about next. Well, what is the hold up there? Let’s talk about Terry McLaren. You’ve already mentioned maybe the Patriots would be a real nice fit for Terry McLuren. Uh does anything make sense for the Washington Commanders in all of this and take a peek at the Hall of Fame eligibles and maybe some notes even from the Hall of Fame game as well. So, we got Terry McLuren that has also requested a trade here. And with Michael Parsons, the tough thing is I don’t get what the holdup is because you know how much you’re going to have to pay him. Yeah. Right. Right. for Terry McLaren. I bet you ask 10 agents and 10 teams how much he should get and it would be 10 different numbers. Probably. Probably. Um I don’t think he moves. I mean, you got a young quarterback, but you also in despite having a young quarterback, they’re the oldest team in the league. You know, they traded for Tonsel, Samuel. I mean, they still got the Zs and Ecklers and Wagner. I mean, they got a lot. Latimore. I mean, they’re they are a very old base with the exception of their quarterback. So, maybe, just maybe, I’m just trying to think like they might, we don’t want to invest in a 30-year-old wide receiver for two, three more years because we’re already really old and we just traded for Debo and maybe they have faith in McAffrey being okay or whatever. I look at it the opposite way though, like the Final Four, he was our next best player. He was our next most important player. He made our young quarterback’s life easier, not the other way around. And we’re going to do anything to make Daniels happier, more successful. McLaren’s been a a warrior for them during bad times. You know, he doesn’t miss time. He consistently puts up a thousand yards with horrendous quarterbacks. Hasn’t really dropped off. He’s still playing at a very high level. I I can’t believe that there’s an impass here. You know, like of course I’ve brought this up concerning the Steelers and I think they’re a team that should call, but I mean I was at the bar last night with Steeler buddies and we’re talking about it and I’m like, is he much less valuable than DK Metaf? You know, I mean that was about a $35 million deal. They’re in the same draft class. Mclloren’s two years older, but they’re in the same draft class. I think that’s kind of a contractual comp. I think that’s not crazy. I think he should ask for that. Yeah. Yeah. See why? But then see that’s where I go to because I can see why it can get it can get sideways pretty quick in that negotiation because they might say, “Well, it’s actually more than 35. It’s 38.” And I could see why the uh the Washington commanders are like, “Well, it’s 31 and that’s a lot.” Gosh. Yeah. Yeah. And that’s a big that’s a big difference. And I can understand both sides. I can too. I can kind of see why they’re at an impass a little bit. You know, the thing with McLaren is he shouldn’t take a discount because he he already has. He’s been underpaid for a while. I would play hard money at wide receiver. I I’ve been a team guy all along through bad ownership coaches, quarterbacks, and I know you don’t pay people for past, you know, what they did in the past necessarily, but in this case, I think you want him to retire a commander. I think you want to spread the news in the locker room. If you do everything and handle your business properly like McLaren did, we will reward you forever and ever, you know, like coming off a great year, you know, like I I think there’s a better chance Parsons moves on McLaren. I think better chance Mcccluren moves because it’s costs less for the buyer because it’s easier to find something in in return. Yeah. And you could, you know, you could probably talk the commanders into thinking, look, we’re going to get a second round pick from McLaren and then go sign Amari Cooper and pay a lot less and we’ll be fine. The Dallas Cowboys, they won’t be fine. No, they won’t be fine. That’s a good point. And a team has to be willing to go top of the market moneywise, multiple first round picks. I think the Cowboys could find it if they want to allow Michael Parsons to seek that trade. But then again, if you’re the Cowboys, you want to control this thing and you don’t want to send them to the NFC East. You might not want to send to the NFC at all. And then does the do the does the market dwindle a little bit in that case? What do you think McLaren cost? Because we went back and forth to this at Sharkies last night, several people I was with, I just strongly disagree with. They’re like, “It’s going to be a first round pick.” I’m like, “No, I don’t think so.” I mean, AJ Brown coming off his first contract gets a first round pick. Tyreek in his prime gets a first round pick. I think it’s a I think it’s similar to Metaf. Metaf was a two. And I think one of the things that uh and then looking back at that Cleo Mack trade, I I I remembered as being two first round picks, but then I didn’t realize there was other stuff actually made it less than two firsts. And the fact that you have to pay the player also makes them free agent. Teams aren’t going to give the most on both ends. They’ll give the most in trade or the most in money, but I don’t think teams are that willing to give up the most on both ends. Yeah. So, I mentioned the Steelers and I’ve gone down this road heavily. That first round pick is off the board for me with the Steelers. I’ll give you a two. Yeah. If I’m if I’m a Char sorry, Chargers or Patriots, I have my quarterback in place. Maybe you could pry my one away from Mclloren in a three or something. That’s I still think that’s steep. I don’t think they get a one out of it no matter what. I I would bet a lot that they don’t get a first round pick unless there’s something like a second coming back or something pretty big coming back. Pretty big. Yeah. Um Mcccluren, let’s see. So we had these. So last off season when the 49ers and the Brandon Nayuk thing was happening and from what I understand it was the second round pick, right, for the Steelers, which was what and something else. Yeah. Something maybe second five or something. Five. Yeah. It was going to be the end up being the deal. Um there was talks that maybe Washington would be interested and I know Brandon Iayuk is best buds with Jaden Daniels. They played together at Arizona State and um and it was like okay Mcccluren but it would cost Mcccluren plus something to get Iayuk was the idea and and then it was like why would Washington do that? You know, I I would understand if they traded his for him or they traded Mcccluren for him, but you’re going to trade Mclloren in a third for Brandon Iayuk. But at the same time, I was like, I think Brandon Iuk was worth more younger at the time. Yeah. The time, right? I I would rather had IUK than McLaren 365 days ago. So, if Fayuk was a two plus a little more than McLaren, yeah, I think a two is is is the right right compensation. But at the same time, if you’re uh if you’re the Washington Commanders, you’d be like, we don’t want to trade him. So you’d have you’d have to give us a one first of all. We can’t have this conversation and then the other team on the other line of the phone would probably say, “Ah, well actually we’re thinking a three because we don’t have that conversation.” Yeah. So that’s kind of where this is and and um with with Michael Parsons, maybe get a young receiver back with a two or something like Calvin Austin and a two, right? Yeah. Yeah. See, that would start to make something some some kind of sense. Mike Parson’s the opposite the opposite where it’s like you’re talking to Stephen Jones on the phone. says, “Well, obviously it would have we’d have to have two first round picks coming back.” And the other team would be like, “Well, yeah, obviously, but what else is it going to be?” You know what I mean? Right. Right. Okay. I think all them Parson’s easier to get to that table. Yeah. The Parson’s conversations are so much easier because, you know, he gets the most with McLaren. I could just see it’s just all over the map how it’s what the valuation is on. Yeah. I I equated it to Metaf as I like how you equated to IU, too. You know, like those are recent comps that are in the neighborhood and it’s not for a one. They’re not the top top receivers in the league, but they’re really good receiver. Be your main guy. Next, Trey Lance. Not dead yet. Not bad. Looking good in the Hall of Fame game. Speaking of Hall of Fame, what about those eligibles for 2026? We’re going to start having some really, really high-end Hall of Fame classes coming up starting in 2026. Let’s get to it. Talk about some names next. It’s time to ramp it up. Season’s coming. Uh let’s talk Hall of Fame game first. Any big notes on the Hall of Fame game? The only thing I have and look it was sloppy as expected. It’s the least. It’s the game you can take the least away from on the entire NFL schedule. Even even other preseason games that you can’t take a lot away from. You can take even less away from the Hall of Fame game and as witness to that how sloppy it looked out there. But Trey Lance, yeah, there’s a little bit take away. Jim Harbaugh pounded on his shoulders, giving him some confidence. I’ve talked about it before. That’s like that is Jim Harbaugh 101 power as a head coach is making his quarterback as confident as possible. And I think Trey Lance needs that as much as any quarterback in the entire NFL. And you saw some confidence started slow, some rolling out a little bit, throwing it short, dumped down to the running back, dump it off to the tight end, hits Will Dley for a touchdown. Then you started to see some bigger throws and nice touchdown the field. He was what 13 of 20 overall for a couple of touchdowns. Uh led the led multiple drives down the field. One of the drives in it in a missed field goal. Uh really nice day for Trey Lance out there. Yeah. Now again, it’s let’s not get crazy, but I thought he was very poised, calm, you know, checking down, knowing where to go with the football and confident looking. And it it’s kind of funny. I mean, I went to Sharkies and the Hall of Fame game’s about to kick off and I’m sitting next to my good bud and he’s like, “Oh, I’m getting kind of nervous.” I’m like, “What do you care about?” He’s like, “Bet the Chargers, man.” I’m like, “You bet the Hall of Fame game?” Like, and he’s like, “Yeah, it’s a Harbaugh. The Harbaughs care more than anybody about preseason. Trey Lance is going to start and the Lions don’t care one bit.” I’m like, “And they’re getting points. I guess the Chargers were a dog.” I’m like, “What?” So opening kickoff, Lions fumble the opening kickoff. Lance goes right down the field. Seven nothing. I’m like, this is the best bet ever. I wish I’d have got in on it. You know, he’s handed to a Marian Hampton and throwing to Dley and Zion Johnson and these guys are blocking for him, you know, like they good guys out there. But I do think the real takeaway is Lance looked comfortable good you know rooting for him you know and I like that he got a lot of run and he had 20 attempts and I was a little bit bummed out that Henden Hooker didn’t have a lot of run had six attempts I was like and I was like why is Hen Hooker not on the football field gosh dang it right why do we one of the bad Allen starting that have been around forever instead of the guy we need to see the least of in the NFL is Kyle Allen the guy we need to see most of is Hinn and Hooker and that made no sense to me right I mean I know that they’re kind of just going the emotions, but put the guy out there that might get something out of it. Yeah, exactly. That That’s the only take I have from Yeah, me too. But keep an eye on Lance, you know. Who knows? How about this? It’s funny. I had a good talk with Wig today, though. Like, we were talking about Richardson and Lance and they didn’t have any experience in college. And I think it’s more and more obvious that Nicks and Penn and Daniels, these guys that have tons of experience are doing better. Yeah. You have to build that foundation. Yeah. Try to build a house with no foundation. see how that goes for it. See how that goes. Uh the 2026 Hall of Fame eligibles is a who’s who list of Yeah. I mean, slam dunks there. There might be next couple years are pretty crazy. Yeah. We might see a bottleneck now with how many guys are eligible and Oh, yeah. It looks like Bill Bichc might be eligible as well. Yeah. So, I didn’t realize until I talked to you before this episode. We went through this on my Steeler show and I was like, what do you mean Bill Bich’s eligible? So, I thought this past class was really weak. I mean, I Sharp and both Allens were like the definition of we really reaching here for Hall of Famers. And for those guys to get in over Keequley, I thought was nuts. You know, Keeley was the first time eligible this past year, much like Gates was the year before. Gates and Keequley are Hall of Famers to me. So, Keeley, I think, will be very much in the mix this coming week, this coming year. But here’s the Bellich check thing that I dug up was so there’s a there’s a new rule change. They changed it from a five-year waiting period to a one-year waiting period which means Bellich who did not coach in 2024 could be inducted in 2026 assuming he doesn’t take a head coaching job before then. So if he comes back in the league gets all bets are off and then he goes back. But he’s got to go, right? You know what I mean? Oh, he’s got to go the first time he’s eligible. So, if he’s eligible, he’s in. So, right. To me, Bellich’s easy luck. And he already has a different job, so he’s not going to coach in the NFL this year. So, that’s done. He could take one this off season, I guess. I mean, if if NC doesn’t work out and he takes over for the Panthers, another offseason to where he could do that before that gets done. It could screw it up, right? Because he can’t be in the league when he gets inducted, I guess. And they do it because coaches are old and they don’t live as long as players that have just retired obviously. Yeah. That year, a lot can happen in that fiveyear buffer. A lot can go wrong. So, how about these eligibles? Drew Brees in, right? I mean, lock it up. First the the first time you’re eligible, you got to get in if you’re Drew Brees. And and that I’ I’ve preached that it’s almost like to me there’s either first ballots or none as far as Hall of Famers go. And there’s a ton of first ballots in this year’s class. My man Larry Fitzgerald in easy. I mean, easy. I mean, that’s not even a conversation. I mean, like both those guys are ahead of Keeley. I’m not sure if they’re ahead of uh Bellich, but those three are a slam dunk. And to me, Keequley’s really close. We recently had a Frank Gore conversation. We can go back and forth forever on it, but he is the third third all-time leading rusher. I mean, he’s a pretty strong case. He’s gonna get in. Now, does he get in this year? Yeah, maybe not. And maybe some of the other names it gets difficult because I’m like you. I believe Keequley probably gets in and deserves to get in. And Bellich, uh, Fitzgerald and Breeze are locks. So, that only leaves one more spot after Keequley if Yeah. If you can only have five Hall of Famers. So, maybe it’s Gore. I don’t think it’s my guy Maris Pouncy. I mean, I think he had really, really good career. He might get in five years from now, 10 years from now. They just two days ago inducted him into the uh Hall of Honor, which is like the Steelers Hall of Fame. And it’s hard for the interior offense. Real hard. Yeah. So, I’m I’m probably a no, especially for this class with Pouncy. I guess Eli is still up. I forgot about that. As is Philip Rivers now. If I had to pick between the two, I’m taking Rivers. But I think Breeze being a lock doesn’t make things easier to get a second quarterback in in this class. No. And Jason Whitten, I think he’s the second all time. Yeah, he’s only behind Tony Gonzalez in receiving yards for a tight end. He’s definitely going to go at some point. Maybe he can’t be that’s a loaded class. Yeah, Whiten’s a perfect example of Hall of very good retire his number with the team he played for, but not Hall of Fame for me. Oh, I think he is. I think he’s a top eight tight end ever. Gosh. I mean, he’s really good as a blocker and a receiver. Just well-rounded. I don’t think you put the fear of God in anyone. No. And that’s kind of where I’m at with Yeah. And that that’s why the interior guys, it’s tough. Like you got Jerry Evans, Jerry Evans, and you got um Maris Pouncy and it’s like, gosh, really good football players. Yeah. Y didn’t get in. Yeah. You’re not even They’re not even getting mentioned if you’re writing a book about the history of the NFL. They’re not they’re named. I hear you. But no, I mean there’s some slam dunk no-brainers coming up. There’s four to me or three that are no doubt. Fitz, Bellich, Breeze, and you can only have five and right I would imagine one of those other guys names gets in. Be first on my list, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Eli gets the call. No, soon. I think he should probably wait. I think he’ll get in. I think it’ll be similar with Gore. I think he’ll get in. I don’t know if it’ll be right away. Um, Whitten, I can definitely see him getting in. And, you know, he’s done enough outside of football that his name is That helps. Too. It definitely helps to have that extra bit of fame with your name. Yep. And there’s a couple guys that were just missed this year. Tory Holt, Steve Smith, Terrell SS. I would never vote for Vary, but somebody will, you know. Yeah. So, no. Loading class coming up. Uh Willie Anderson. Yeah, he’s another one. J Evans, you mentioned, you know, Fred Taylor, the guy like Tory Holt, all those guys just been see Holts, they’re lingering up a little. Guys like Holt, it gets strong. Your your candidacy gets stronger because of classes like we just had in 2025, you know. But Larry’s going and I don’t think they’re close, right? You know, so three absolute locks and only two other spots and I could I could see any of the other guys going in, but I would also hesitate maybe to to really put my full endorsement behind any anybody else. Yeah, I went through it and even the year after that has three or four slam dunks. The year after that is three or four slam dunks. We got like Brady and Grank and Donald and Rothllessberger and a lot of these guys are on the horizon that are going to be no-brainer types. Uh Grank and Brady are the same class. I’m not sure. I’d have to double check that, but I know they’re both either next year or the year after or they’re together. That’d be cool if they’re together. There you go. What do you think? Who are your Hall of Famers for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame class? And of course, make sure you are subscribed up on YouTube or anywhere you listen to this podcast.
