MLB LIVE🔴 Los Angeles Dodgers vs Tampa Bay Rays – Aug 3, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome MLB the show has inner league action for you this afternoon. It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers taking on the Tampa Bay Rays. And now first coming your way next Tampa Bay Ray. All right, just about set to go and getting to start number 48 and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, it hasn’t been a great year so far in terms of ERA, but he’s had some decent games and there have been some flashes of greatness, if you will. We’ll see today if he’s able to get ahead of hitters and perhaps get some swings and misses, put himself in a position to bring that erra down because you know in the back of his mind beyond the W, he wants to have a better earn run average. Mookie bets the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one. Next pitch misses. Ball two. Two. Swing. And a ball popped in the air. Fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s there with a leadoff double. Well, those kind of lucky soft hits will always make you smile. That one probably had no business ending up as a base hit, but he got just enough of it to muscle it to the outfield. And that pitch was well in off the plate. A tough one to handle, but he gets rewarded. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. James Outman steps to the plate for the Dodgers. That one’s in there. 0 and one. All in one. This one rift but foul to the right. 99 miles per hour to finish him off. just overmatched on that fast ball right there. And it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. Just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. And up to the plate is Will Smith. That’s down and in. I feel with the way that Will Smith is able to handle the bat, control the bat head, he’s very capable of finding green space and driving in that run. Slider for a strike. I got a ball. One strike. Look out. Right there. First base. Batting fourth. The first Freddy Freeman will come on to hit. Freeman outside low and that’s ball one counts one and0 just missed. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Betts the lead runner at second. Smith at first. One gone. And another ball. Way to lay off that pitch down. Tay Oscar Hernandez in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Here comes the pitch and that’ll load the bases. Pretty easy walk right there. Last pitch wasn’t even much to think about. the right fielder. So bases loaded with one away. And now Tayscar Hernandez can’t find it here. That’s six straight balls. One out. Base is full. Basketball for a strike. Next offering upstairs. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. fouls one away and now three and two. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield and a swing and a miss. Huge strike out there. Certainly a strikeout situation right there. The infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing and miss. really nice job of attacking the hitter at the plate. Pretty big two out at bat coming up now. At the plate, Andy Pahes out to short. They take the force out. Out to escape a bases loaded jam unscaped. So they load the bases on just one hit but can’t get anyone across. Now it’s the Rays turn. No score. Back here at Tropicana Field getting the nod in this one, Tyler Glass. Now, well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Yandi Diaz, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. We’re watching a former Rays pitcher today in glass. Now, he had plenty of good years in Tampa Bay before being traded. He’s not the first pitcher with dominant stuff the Rays have dealt. Blake Snell, David Price, and James Shields definitely come to mind. Booth breaking ball inside and that’s ball three. That one misses. So, a lead off walk. Now, this was a story we were paying attention to before the game. We’ve seen him give up walks in the past, and it’s an issue once again early on. So, digging in, Jonathan Aranda. First pitch misses. Come on, Jonathan. Six straight outside the strike zone. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. Next offering is in for a strike. Two balls, one strike. runner on the goal in the dirt. Throw save. That’s a stolen base. I think that steal kind of sets the tone, not just for this game, but for the entire series, first inning, game one. So, that kind of tells me they’re going to be aggressive on offense and try to force the issue whenever they can. And now it’s filled up. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. Little early on that fast ball. I’m sure the pitcher taking a note. Look for an off speed pitch on this next one. Man at second and ball four. Two aboard. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice player. Junior Camero next to hit for the Rays outside low and that’s ball one. Let’s go now. Junior fast ball for a strike at 95. Diaz at second. Aranda at first with no outs in the dirt but kept close. Well done behind the dish. Highf fly ball out towards left field. Back there and out of here. A laser to left. The Rays strike first. It’s three nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. A breaking ball on the inside part of the plate requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics. If you fly open with the fresh shoulder, there’s no way you keep that ball fair. An outstanding job mechanically. He deserves that home run. Next to bat will be the Rays four hitter Christopher Morell. That misses off the outside edge. Can be tough to bounce back after a big home run, but nobody on, nobody out. You just have to treat it as a fresh inning. That one is upstairs. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. What a stop. Gathers and throws and they get the out. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. This has been a good productive lineup so far this year. Currently ranking among the better teams in terms of total hits and runs per game. Well, you know, this lineup sees it as very important to put the ball in play. I mean, this is an age where strikeouts are up so high and guys are swinging and missing going for the fences, but if you can increase that contact rate, you can be a dangerous club. You get more guys on base, then all of a sudden when that big swing comes through, you’re plating more runs. So, we’ll see if this pitcher can get some soft contact. Let the defense work behind him. Still only one out here in the inning. And that one pulled foul. Glass now ready. So, a foul ball makes it one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with the fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Had a good eye there. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Stays alive. battling here as he fouls it away. Next pitch is outside and now it’s three and two. The 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Well, that’s a nice job grinding out that bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the wall. Very gritty. Next to hit, Josh Low. And first off is fouled off. If it were an average catcher behind the plate, I’d say take second base. But this isn’t a catcher you want to run on. His quick release is unreal. That misses the zone. And now it’s even one and one. Rudder takes off. The one-1 is fouled off. And a one-two swing and a miss. Struck him out. Out number two. Oh, that’s pretty much the dream. Two strike curve ball. You’re the pitcher. Hard downward break at the very end that just dips below the swing path. And they say pitchers want to try to bounce that pitch right on top of the plate. So that was exactly what he was looking for on the mound. next offering upstairs. Chris, with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Two outs. Right through there for a strike. Fouls one off. Two and two. Squids through that one. It’s a strikeout, but the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now in Tampa Bay, here’s a switch hitter, Tommy Edmond. Tommy Edmond in his sixth season, 29 years old. and he was a sixthround draft pick back in 2016 and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. A three-0 lead is great, but you can’t get too comfortable. Got to stay aggressive, keep attacking hitters, try to cruise through this ball game. And it’s fouled away. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Ball one there. See if you can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. On the ground into the outfield base hit and a good start to the inning. back against the wall with two strikes, but found a way. Really nice job staying up the middle with his approach. He didn’t try to do too much with the pitch. Just shot it through the infield. Man at first, nobody out. Here’s the veteran second baseman, Miguel Rojas. He swings and fouls one off. Nobody out. Runner at first. Runner on the goal. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Andy O2. One ball in the dirt. Blocked. Edmond on at first. Nobody out. And look out. That one gets him. The second man he’s plunked in this one. First and second, no outs. Next to hit, Estee Yuri Ruiz. Fast is outside. First and second, no outs here in the top of the second. That clips the corner. Ed Drummond, our umpire behind the plate in this one. Yeah, Boog. He’s a really fair umpire, both the pitchers and the hitters. So, standard strike zone. He’s consistent with it. And the great thing is you don’t see players question the calls too much. So that’s a good thing in this day and age. Late with the swing there. What about some nos? Like you can’t call the umpire blue the way you do in little league or high school, right? Yeah. Even in the minor leagues, you’ll learn quickly you call the umpire blue. You better learn his name. And uh that’s just part of being a professional player and even a major league player. Tunnneled that pitch. thought it was going to be a slider breaking in off the plate, but it hugged the corner and at that point when he recognized it, it was just too late. So, the batting order turns over. Here’s Mookie now. Led this game off with a double, but they weren’t able to drive him in. Check swing and he went strike one. Bets is definitely one of those guys that excels at everything he does. Boog, in terms of baseball, he can do it all. He’s won World Series, batting titles, gold gloves, and everything else you can think of. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Duca sizes this one up. He makes the grab. Two away now. Up next to the Dodgers, the designated hitter, James Outman. James Outman. digs in now. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Pitch misses there. Ball one. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Very dominant with that fast ball inside. Hitter’s going to be conscious of that. Now you have the outer half of the plate to work with out there on the mound. And that one is in for a strike. Good pitch, man. I’m pretty impressed out there on the mound right now. I mean, these are tough spots where pitchers really got to it bear out. Those last two pitches were well executed. Line drive and it stays fair. Here comes Edmond around third. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and now just a two-run deficit. Well done. narrows the deficit with the RBI there. That was a thing of beauty. He may have been a little behind the pitch, but by getting that barrel into the hitting zone early on in his swing, he was able to meet it and still shoot a line drive down the line and left. First and second, two outs. The batter now will be Will Smith. He’s got the power, but great contact skills. One of the best contact hitters in the game. And another ball. Two on, two outs. And a foul ball makes the count. Two and one. And a breaking ball. Misses outside. Freddy Freeman in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Two on, two outs. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Just not able to catch up to that velocity. And a foul ball. He stays alive and they’re all loaded up. So here we go again with the walks. It’s been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past. Now, even if they get out of this jam, these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team. Freeman up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. The Dodgers threatening. Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. So now one and two one ball two. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. And we’re back. Bottom half of inning number two. And now the catcher for the Rays, Nick Forz. Glass. Now back to work. Fast for a strike. 0 and one. check swing and he went 0 and two. 02 is the count. Fights it off. He’ll see another. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Just a great slider right there. And I think the key for pitchers and what hitters don’t want to see is if a pitcher misses with that pitch that he misses off the edge of the strike zone rather than in the middle of the strike zone. And right there, excellent execution and it finished up in a perfect spot. Taylor Walls stands in now and watches strike one. The one down the line. Nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball. One out. Base is empty. The shorts stop takes a ball. One ball, two strikes the count. One down, base is empty. Make it four strikeouts in a row. Just cruising along. The batter number three back to the top of the lineup. Yandi next to hit for the Rays. The walk and a run scored his first time. That’s a slider for a strike. The strong second inning is a confidence builder for him. A relief for his manager. Doesn’t have to get into that bullpen quite as early. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Pah moving under it. Carous it. And that is that. And welcome back to the ballpark. All set for the start of the inning. Here’s Tayscar Hernandez. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s one and0. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. Probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. And the one. That’s ball two. Right now behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that foul ball there. fouled off. He was late. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And that’s ball three. up the middle. Caviierro got him on the offbalance throw. Leadoff man retired here in the third. Good two seam action right there. Running away from the batter. Rolled over it. Got the ground out. And the Rays manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make the move. Number 48 out of the game. Two-run ball game as he heads for the dugout. And we’ll be back with a new pitcher. Now pitching. Now, Ryan Pepio coming on to face a righty here. And he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Andy Pahes steps to the plate for the Dodgers. He’s 0 for one and first offering is fouled off. Right through there for a strike. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Garrick Clevenger warming up for manager Kevin Cash. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Next offering way off the plate. That to right. Low has it sized up. That’s out number two. Now batting third baseman Tommy Edmond. Tommy Edmond at the plate. One for one with a single and a run scored so far. Fast for a strike. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. Dodgers go down quietly and they still trail it here. Three to one. Back here at Tropicana Field, the number two hitter, Jonathan, he’s back out here for the third. And after the first couple of innings, pretty rough. I think the skipper is looking for him to give him a little bit of length. See if he can save the bullpen some. Outside low, ball one. Swing and a miss. Chased it out of the zone. One and one. swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt. One ball, two strikes. And they’ll do it again. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. Well, that ball is hit pretty hard and sure had home run distance, but if you’re the pitcher out there on the mound, you execute it. Just a long strike. You go after him and finish him off. That one at 95 missed up top and the count’s even at two. Swaying and a miss. Struck him out. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an bat like that one. Now the third baseman, Junior Camro. He’s already homered here in this one. one to third. Slings it across and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. The left fielder number 24, Christopher. Now here is Christopher Morell grounded out his first time. swings and blasts one deep to left center. That’s back. It’s a ball and they add a run. It’s 4-1. First pitch hacking and it paid off for him in a big way. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. And now Johnny Duca and a strike in there. Though Chris, through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the last half of the third. And that one deep left field and forget it. They do it again. Backto back homers and they tack one on the board. It’s 51. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. And they’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, boo. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in the lineup feeding off each other. And the collective confidence just continues to grow. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Josh Low went down on strikes his first time through. And there’s the strike. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. Two down to next offering is outside. Got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Great velocity at 97 at the top of the zone. BS it off. Still one and two. Two out. Space is empty. can’t connect on the curve ball struck him out. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 51 as we go to the top of the fourth. Stepping in Miguel Rohos. Let’s do it. That misses the zone. One and0. Ball one, no strikes. On its way to the corner. Tries to make the play, but it’s fouled. The one-1 is fouled off. breaking ball misses down and away. Blows the high heat past them. That’s a strike out. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Let’s go. Ruiz in the box now. No balls in a strike. And down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. really locked him up. And as a hitter, it’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. It’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it’d be called the ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. And first off is fouled off. Hard ground ball base knock. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. Now batting the designated hitter, James Outman. Next is the designated hitter, James Outman. Picked up an RBI in his last at bat. still their only run of the game so far. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Two outs. Missed with a change up. And that’s ball two. just missed. Will Smith up next for the Dodgers. Bets the runner at first with two gone. The bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. And that drops in for a strike. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Now a screamer into the outfield. Low makes the play. And that is that. One left for LA. They’re down here five to one. Back now in Tampa Bay. Bottom four. Now up for Tampa Bay. Jose Caviierro. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Show Oti getting ready to go. Visia a left-hander also throwing swing. And this one’s bounced to the ground. And that’s a foul ball. Go on the ground right side. Can’t glove it cleanly and they get the out. Good recovery. Was an easy foul on the misplay. Nick Forz. Nick Forz next to hit for the Rays. Struck out swinging his first time. on the mound. He’s got to remember his offense can score a lot. So, if he can hit the reset button from here going forward, there’s still a chance that his club can win this ball game. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Look out. That fast ball drilled him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him and the Dodgers will go to the bullpen. That’ll be it for Glass now. And the home run really bit him today as he exits on the hook for the loss. New arm coming on after the break. Now pitching. So the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound. Number 70. Still pretty early in the ball game. So this bullpin has some work ahead of him. Best case scenario might be if he can come in here and get several quick outs, kind of bridge the gap that starter left for him. And stepping in for the Rays, Taylor Wall struck out looking his first time. Runner on the move. That one ripped a dive and he can’t haul it in. Lead runner around second. Lead runner holds at third. So, two runners in scoring position and just one out. Oh, that started and ended pretty quickly. No messing around right there. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer and he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. So the lineup flips over Yandi Diaz now and that drops in for a strike. 0 and one. Here we go. Second and third. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. swing and a miss. He swung over top of the curve ball. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before was up. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. And now the first baseman, Jonathan Aranda. A strike out and a walk that catches the outside corner. That’s strike one. Big moment in this game. Two outs, two runners in scoring position and could really break this thing wide open early. Check swing. Now it’ll appeal to third. That’s a swing according to umpire Woody Keller. field two lined into right. He’s there. He’s got it. And that’ll do it. So, the Rays strand a pair. They lead this one though 5-1. And we’re back. Now it’s going to be Will Smith. Pepio back to work right through there for a strike. You know, these Dodgers, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already, and even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two and that one is inside. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. Swing and a miss and he got him. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean that was clearly up and out of the strike zone. That’s one of the hardest things. And when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And the first two set down in the top of the fifth. Up next for the Dodgers, the right fielder, Teay Oscar Hernandez. Two out, space is empty. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Tay Oscar Hernandez for two in this one. Ball one low. Hernandez, 32 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. Fouled off left side. Good pitch to hit on a tee up in the zone. I think he was looking for something else right there. This one in the air. Walls brings it in and that’s the third out. Dodgers down in order. They’re down 5-1. We head to the bottom of the fifth now for Tampa Bay. Junior Camro coming check swing and he went. That’s strike one. Well, these Rays putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Ah, that hit him. And the leadoff man is aboard to start the inning. And leading up, Christopher Morel next to hit for the Rays. He’s already homered in this game. edge of the zone for a strike 0 and one. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Next offering is down low into left center for a base hit. And it’s now first and second to start the inning. Now batting center Johnny Duca next to hit for the Rays. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. And that’s in for a strike. Ball one. Squirts away a little bit. Tag safe and a wild pitch and both runners are in scoring position. Well, Boo, it’s already been a tough start to this inning as it is and that wild pitch is going to make things even tougher. Two men in the scoring position now still with nobody out. So, this really becomes a strikeout situation on the mound. And that one’s a little bit low. And it’s two and one. It’s a big opportunity right here. But I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Swings through that one out in front that time. Two runners in scoring position. Nobody out. And a base hit on a line. One runs in. Another comes in to score. And it’s now a six-run lead. No outs. Runner at first. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Josh Low, who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Check swing and he went 0 and one. 01’s the count. Duca gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Pickoff throw. Duca dives back in safely. And he’ll one and one strike. Lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Lead runner touches second. Headed for third. Coming home. He will score. Picks himself up an RBI. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And here comes the Dodgers manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Number 70 departs and he’s responsible for the runner on second. So the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for new pitcher for the Dodgers number 78. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. Jose Cabierro next to hit for the Rays. And that one upstairs man at second. That’s to third and foul ball. 1-1 now. Oh, that’s out. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. Last half of inning number five. Nope. That’s a ball. That’s in there. And the count is filled up. Three and two. and a liner around into right center for a base hit. Coming home, he’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and it’s an eight run lead. Nick Forez next to hit for the Rays in the air to left center. And there’s one down. The batter number six, shortstop, Taylor Wall. And now here is Taylor Walls, one for two. And first offering is fouled off. The shorts stop takes a ball. I got one ball, one strike. Man at first, one away. That one missed. Still two and two after the foul ball. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another takes off. Got him. Swinging. Throw to second. See the batter number two designated hitter. Next to hit for the Rs. Fast ball in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Moved to second and he dives back in safely. ball that’s out. Runner at second. Two down. Swing and a ball popped up. Freeman under this one. And that ends the inning. So, four runs on four hits, no errors, and a runner left on. Five innings complete. It’s the Rays nine and the Dodgers won. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Singy, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it. All right, Singy. We’ve been in all the press boxes. You got best press box food. Uh, I say press box food because of the ice cream. We have to Philadelphia. Shout out to our guy Frank. Yes. Uh, New York for me is pretty good. Yankees. Yeah. Solid. Yeah. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Now batting the third baseman, Tommy Edmond. So a man aboard, Tommy Edmond steps to the plate for the Dodgers. A change up missing and that’s ball one. Pah aboard here at first with nobody out. Swinging a foul back that’s out of play. gets a piece and stays alive. Squirts away a little bit. Rudder at first with no outs here. In the air out towards left center. Hauls it in for the out. And there’s one down. Up next for the Dodgers, the second baseman, Miguel. Miguel Roas at the plate. He was late there. Strike one. Threw that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. Now a highf fly ball out to left center. Morell on the move. Puts it away for the out. Every day during batting practice these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps. They practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly. Estee Yuri Ruiz steps to the plate for the Dodgers. went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here. First off, and it just misses and another ball. Struggled a little bit in this one. couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count at two and 0. Two and0 to count. Here it comes. And that one off the outside edge. Mookie Betts up next. Two outs. There’s the strike. Well, this looks like it’s going to be a wasted opportunities. Frustrating when you get the leadoff man on, but you can’t get him into scoring position. They’re going to need a big knock. Try to put something up on the board. So, now two on and two outs. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. Pretty much gifted in first base with a quick free pass. Here’s Mookie to hit. Swinging a foul straight back with a short stop. Takes the ball. Great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two. Such a better feeling for the hitter. Up the middle and it finds its way through for a hit. Here comes Pahz around third. safe and it’s 92. The batter, the designated hitter, James manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Ryan Pepio will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching, Derek Cleger gets the ball. Now, compared to some days, this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him. So it should be fairly free and easy out there. Still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone. So two on with two away. James Outman steps to the plate for the Dodgers in the air. Right field makes the grab on the run. And that is that. One run in the inning, but they leave two. 234 do up in the home half of the sixth. It’s the Rays nine and the Dodgers two. Bottom of the six and stepping in for the Rays, Jonathan. Jonathan and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Not sure if he was expecting for the pitcher to come right at him, but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way. Highfly ball on that one. Curling foul down the right side. And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. Rush to right. This one’s got a chance out of here. Home run. He’ll touch them all. And they add a run. It’s 10 to two. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. So, Singi, this is a little bit of a surprise. A guy known for line drives hits one over the fence. Well, if you’re a little too early, you’ll get some elevation in the ball. Get out of the ballpark. For him, it’s kind of a mistake. But you know what? When you have such a good approach, every now and then you’re going to run into one. Kevino stands in here, leaves that one off the inside. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in here in the bottom of the six. And another ball. Two count. You really don’t want to give in here. You got to work the edges. Really execute a pitch. Hopefully, you can get back into this count. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Next offering is fouled back. That one misses and the count’s full. Out to short bets over to first. One away. Bottom of the six. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run. Not allowing it to stay in the head but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that. So now it’s the fourhole hitter Christopher Morell. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Right through there for a strike. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. He had him full. Two down. Base is empty. Johnny Duca the next to hit. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. That one fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. That’s inside now. One and two. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. That missed by a lot. And the count is even. Two and two. And a swing and a miss. And that’s that. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. And now an eight-run lead at 102. Top of inning number seven. And here’s the catcher, Will Smith. This guy makes great contact. One of the best in the game and putting bat on ball. He’s got such quick hands and he’s gaining pitch recognition that keeps him square to the plate. There’s a good chance that his bat stays in the zone a long time and that produces solid contact consistently. At bat can be a little bit of a dance. Strike one here. But few more pitches. We’ll see how it turns out. Here comes the 01. Late on that fast ball. 02 is the count. Not close with that one. And the count one and two. swings and misses. Struck him out. So now it’s Freddy Freeman. Basement number five, Freddy Freeman. Let’s go. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Still able to fire over and they get it. The misplay made it a bit messy, but they clean things up for the out. Hernandez. Two outs. Space is empty. And now the right fielder to Oscar Hernandez. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Come on. Slice down the right side. Two down, nobody on. You’re in the top half of inning number seven. Ground ball to the right side. Aranda takes it himself and the Dodgers are set down in order. Nothing doing it for the Dodgers here. And the deficit stays at eight. It’s 10-2. And welcome back to the ballpark. And here is Josh Low. Low. They say you win. 01’s the count. That one outside and the count even one and one. And there’s the strike. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Little tardy on that fast ball. Is going to have to get it going a little quicker. Get that front foot down. That misses and it’s two and two. Good eye on that spot. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. cut out and miss. Struck him out. Looks like he’s picked up right where he left off. Now batting. And now Jose Cavo gets the outside corner with that one. Base is empty. One away here in the bottom of the seven. Swing and a line drive and a base hit out into left center field. And the batter now, Nick Forez, now delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Let’s go. That clips the corner. Come on. That one way outside. One and two to count. And that’s downstairs and outside. And it remains two and two. Tampa. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another inside. Three and two now. The other way they got it for out number two. The batter number six, Sharpstop Taylor Wall. And now Taylor Walls, one for three. Swings through that. 0 and one. at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. A short stop. Takes a ball. Fights that one away. Still one and two. Two outs. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. CIA strikes him out for the second time today. The Rays strand just the one and the lead stays at eight. It’s 10 to2. Back here at Tropicana Field. Here’s the center fielder, Andy Pahus. Andy Pes Clevenger in his fourth year, 30 years old now. And he was a third round pick back in 2015. And that’s in for a strike. And a swinging a miss. Oh, two. fouled off and they’ll do it again. Battling here as he fouls it away. One ball, two strikes. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Let’s go up the middle and a base hit right there. So he ends up with a hit after seeing a lot of pitches. That was a good at bat. number 14 coming into the game now as the injured replacement. Number 14. And here comes Tommy Edmond Simpson. swing and a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. Well, the laidoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. This one popped up right side on his way over. reaching down makes the catch. The batter the second base. The batter now Miguel Rojos. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Pah leads off first with one away. Next offering is fouled back. Ball to strike. Right through there for a strike. One ball, two strikes. That one misses the countdown. Two and two and that’s downed away. goes down looking. Now the left fielder, Estee Yuri Ruiz. A walk and a pair of strikeouts. First pitch misses. The Rays up big in this one. And we’re in the top of the eighth. There’s a swing and a drive. That one back there and it hits the fence coming home. And he’s out. Cut down. And that ends the inning. Always exciting to see a play at the plate. Trying to score with two outs, but the tag just gets him in time. And they cut down the run to end the inning. Back now in Tampa Bay ready for the bottom of the eighth. And here is Yandi Diaz. And first offering is fouled off. to the right side. Takes it himself and a quick out number one. Now batting first baseman Jonathan Aranda. Jonathan Aranda next to hit for the Rays. One more time. Late swing. Foul to the left. Liner. And that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did and he did it perfectly. Here’s the third baseman, Junior Camro. That one in there across the letters. That misses and the count is one and one. That’s a laser base hit. Aranda around third. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and they now lead by nine. Comes through with the RBI. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. And first offering is fouled off. That one the other way. Want at second on to Freeman. Double play. Inning over. One run on two base hits. No errors and no one left. Through eight full. It’s the Rays 11 and the Dodgers two. We go to the ninth. Here’s Betts. The short stop. Mooky Betts. Clevenger back to work. Swings here and drives one. Well, left field way back and you can forget it. He sends it out of here. It’s 113. He absolutely crushed that one. No doubt about that one, Boo. We knew it wasn’t coming back. That’s exactly the pitch he was looking for. Crushes it and hits it out of the ballpark. And now the DH James Outman. First pitch swinging. 01’s the count. That’s a strike. And it’s nothing in two. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Will Smith to the plate. Catcher Will Smith. Pitch misses there. And that is ball one. Nope. That’s off the plate. Ball two. One out. Base is empty and a run in here at the top of the ninth. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Check swing called strike. Tough call right there to even the count. Such a big difference between 3-1 and 22 in terms of how the odds shift for the at bat. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. One down, base is empty. Swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left center and he makes the catch. Two away number five, Freddy Freeman. So they’re down to their final out. Here’s Freddy Freeman now. swings and misses at the pitch off the plate. Started in and ended up on the outside edge just changing planes and very difficult especially for a left-handed hitter to track. They’re down to their final strike. The Dodgers down to their final strike. That misses and the count is one and two. just that turns out to be a really good take right there. But you don’t want to end this game with the bat on your shoulder. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. and he’ll make the catch. Ball game and the Rays slug their way to a win in this one. Offensive explosion today for these players. They gave up a few runs, but they had more than enough firepower to turn this one into a blowout.
