Rays vs. Yankees Game Highlights (7/29/25) | MLB Highlights

For the Yankees, it’s Max Freed. And what a matchup for Freed. He seems like he owns the Rays this year. Yeah, tremendous success earlier in the year. He has been very good, not only against the Rays, but as a stopper for the Yankees after Yankee losses. Has come up big this year. He pitches well at Yankee Stadium. Ground ball that’s going to go through the right side and it’ll be set to start this game for Yandi Diaz. Down at the Renda, first baseman. He’s thing. Ground ball up the middle. Kulpi a bad flip to Chism and everybody’s safe and he’s hearing it from the crowd. That’s got to be an error. Well, yeah. I mean, he’s there in plenty of time. Fields it well. He’s got a decision there to make. Split second. Do I try to cut down the runner there? Had plenty of time to do it. Just made the bad flip. Also had to play at first as as a backup. That’s Vulpi’s 14th era of the year. Two on and nobody out. And a good hitter here in Junior Camra coming up. Highf fly ball left field. Dominguez back on the run on the track makes the play. Tagging is Diaz. He’ll go to third and tagging Aronda will go to second. Second, third and one out for Christopher Morell. Pitch swing and a miss. He got him. What after up top of the four seamer at 96 two down. So now it’s second and third with two men out and it’ll take something from Johnny Duca. Right-handed batter. Line drive right center field that gets into the alley. Base hit. It spreads out the birds and rolls all the way to the wall. Two-run score. Diaz and Aronda are in. Here goes Duca heading for third. He’s sliding in with a two-run triple. And the Rays have scored more in six batters than they have ever against Max Creed career. It’s two nothing Rays in the first. Oh, two swing and a miss. Pulling big time with a big sweeping breaking ball. Damage done though. A couple of runs. It’s two nothing Tampa Bay as we go bottom of the first. Joe Bole on the hill for Tampa Bay tonight. And he’s put up really good numbers for the race this year. 1 and0 with a 142 erra, but hasn’t gone more than five innings at the big league level. Rays just want him to get started on a high note and continue pumping the strike zone. Big 68 right-hander pausing and now throwing lifted in the air towards shallow left. Kamano is calling off Morell. It’s Junior Camro, the third baseman to backpedal and catch it and end the inning for the Yanks. That’s outside. Ball four. Another base runner and a dangerous one here. Free can’t believe he didn’t get that call. So here’s newly acquired Nick Forez looped to the shortstop bulpi and he dropped the ball on purpose and then throws the second of the second base umpire. Woodson said no he’s out. Good try to get Cabayro off the bases if he can but not going to work this time. Runner at first in scoring position. Two down and back to the top of the order. Yandi Diaz going swinging on bouncing ball to Bi. Two hops throws to Jazz for one and that’s the out they needed and that will do it. Tism Jr. leading off. Bole throwing one and two swing and a miss and a breaking ball down. Another slider. A steady diet of hard sliders from Bole strikes out Jazz Chisum and that’s the first strike out of the night. Drew Bole one out double facing Dominguez and that’s 16th double of the season. Dominguez now six for his last 15. Two and two to McMahon. One out. Boil throws swing and Messi struck him out. Followed the splitter with the slider. Goes down and in and McMahon fans for out number two. Boil in the one two. He blows him away. Swung on and missed it. 99. And boy, the fans are really letting Vulpi hear it lately here in the Bronx. Been a different guy his last 10 starts than he was the first 11 when the Rays saw him twice and he shut him out. Jonathan Aronda steps in. First pitch left on left. Swung on and hit high in the air and deep to right field. Back in the ball. Bellinger to the wall. Gone. Lefty on lefty. Jonathan Ronda sends one into the right center field seats. The Rays add to their lead. It is now three nothing. awaiting a one-two from Freed. Here comes Max in the wind and the pitch. Breaking ball swing on and foul tip held by Wells. That’s a strike out. Second. Make that the third of the evening for Max Freed. 02 and he tripled up. Swinging a miss. He was way out in front. Strike out for Freed on three curve balls. That’s backto back strikeouts. Two outs here in the Yankees home third. Here’s Cody Bellinger. He now represents the tie. Intercept at the corner. Driven out to right field and deep low back. Cody looking. See youa. A big three-run home run from Bellinger. And the Yankees have tied the game. And how great has this guy been? Where would this team be without Cody Bellinger? Three balls, two strikes. Still 50/50 ball strikes. And the next pitch called strike three. Chisum doesn’t like it. He’s down on strikes. And Bole gets his sixk. So far from Max, four strikeouts, a walk and he gave up a line drive home run off the bat of a laid off the third. Two two from Max. Swing and a miss. And Wells holds on. Another K struck out three of the last four batters now. That’s pretty good. That’s five strikeouts for Max Street as we play here in the fourth. Swung on and sent to right center field. Easy play. Who’s going to take it? It’s going to be Bellinger and right center field. And that’ll do it. Nicely done by Max Fredus. He’s retired the last six men that he’s faced. Jason Dominguez to lead it off in the fourth inning for the Yankees. And a base hit for Dominguez. He’ll hit him where they ain’t. Well, the infield comes in for Vulpi with a runner on third and one man out. 3-3 game. That one is looped into center field. It’s going to be in there for a base hit. Scoring is Dominguez. Bulby picks up an RBI single and the Yankees lead four to three. That’s how you get those boos to cheers. It doesn’t take much. They’re people that come here. They’re waiting to cheer. Bulby holds it first. His pitch hit hard right at off the glove at the second base with Cababiera. Boy, nonchalanted that one. He should have eaten that a lot. And the Yanks will take that break. It was a low screamer about just below the knee and he should have made that catch. Well, that’s going to be it for Boil. Pitching change coming. 4-3 New York. First and second, one man out. 4-3 Yankees. Bottom four. Runners go. The throw to third. It goes into left field. Vulpi will get up and he will score. Gall stays at second and the Yankees now lead five to three. Now Vulpy going to steal third. Force the air. Manufactures a run with his legs. The pitch to Gisham coming. Ground ball hits toward first. Two hopper snared on the backhand by Diaz. Flips underhand to Montgomery covering. Two outs and an opportunity for two out RBI. Coach Smith has popped out second and struck out. Line drive. It’s a base hit to left. Different hitter against lefties. RBI single. Scoring as well. Yankees up 63. 6-3 lead for Max Freed. Now maybe he’s going to stay on this roll here. He’s retired the last six men that he’s faced. He struck out three of them. Diaz strikes out on the curve ball. It’s been his best pitch tonight. It’s been this curveball. Two out. Nobody on the pitch. Swing and a miss. A weak wave and a sweeper down and in. Max Freed, he’s retired the last nine that he’s faced. McMahon has struck out fly to left against Joe Bole. 3-2 lifted toward left center field. Duca will go to the track in front of the wall with a leap and he makes the catch. So Duca tracking that one. Well alongside but Duca a long run after that one and he holds it in. Reed going for his 12th win of the year. It’s number 93. Foul ball held on by Wells. Worked in on his hands. Strike out number eight. Retired now. 11 consecutive hitters. There he comes. Fast ball broken bat. Ground ball. McMahon charges. Gloves. Throws on the run. Right on the money. This kid’s good. Ryan McMahon making pretty much every play. That’s a dozen. 12 consecutive hitters retired by Max Freed. My performance by Max Freed as he is out for the seventh inning. He’s retired the last 12 men in this 6-3 Yankee lead. Swing and a miss. Low down on strikes. Ninth strikeout for Max Freed. Yeah, just worked him over right here after that big slow curveball. That oneline sinker down and in diving. Jose Caviierro walking a fly to left up the middle. Chisum two-way and he walks it 14 straight retired before he walks Cortez. And out comes Boom. Max Freed trying to lobby. I’m okay. I got this. You got to let him go. There we go. All right. Freed said, “I got him.” He always does. He said, “I got this guy.” Taylor Walls is coming up. Swinging a line drive into right center. That’s going to drop for a base hit and will split the gap and go all the way to the wall. Hitting third is Forz. He’s coming home. Walls comes around second and will hold with a run-scoring double. That definitely will chase Max Freed. You got him? Nope. And it’s a 6-4 ball game. He’s going to get a nice hand. Lewis got his task getting out here immediately. Diaz one for seven against him with the walk. Swung on. Hit the right side and Gold Smith’s right there. One hopper. Goldie will take it to the bag and that’ll do it. Here’s Cody Bellinger who has one of the biggest hits of the game. The pitch swung on and grounded hard to first. Diving stop Diaz pops up, flips to first to Baker in time. Two down. Deandi taking away a hit from Bellinger. Boy, that was a pretty play to his forehand. First and second, nobody out. And now the tying runs are aboard the go-ahead run coming to the plate. Lewis came in, got the final out of the seventh inning, but now has given up a couple of base hits and a bit of trouble here on one hop. Bulby makes a nice play and turns it into two. 643 as Aronda moves to third. One-1 pitch. Swing on. Popped it up down the left field line given Chase McMahon. Does it come back to him? It does. Yes, sir. With two outs, nobody on here. Bottom of the eighth. Here’s Anthony Bfield. High-fly ball center field and deep. Simpson back on the track at the wall. See youa. A home run into the Yankee bullpen. His 15th of the year. And the Yankees are up by three. That’s how you turn those boos to cheers in a hurry. And the first two men are on for the Rays, meaning they will get the potential tying run to the plate. Tristan Gray bats. A little number to the left side down to second and out there. The run scores. Now Josh Low crosses the plate. That makes it seven to five. The sure-handed McMahon. You’ll see here on the transfer had a little trouble getting rid. A little jump pass over to Jazz Chisum. Good job Jazz staying on the bag right there. Two down. Rays down to their final chance. Here is Yandi Diaz. Grounded. Vulpi sets, fires, and it’s dropped. Goldmick dropped the throw and the Razer alive. A low throw by Vulpi. Could not come up with the scoop. And that’ll be another error. Now Aronda who has homered and singled. Runners at second and third. And a single. Little old single by Aronda. And they might tie this. And the one two swing and a miss. Exhale. Yankees win 75. Wow. Wow. I tell you what. Razer’s edge, huh?

  1. BONE HEAD BOONE ALMOST COST US THE GM. . FREID WAS DONE , PULL'EM . VOLPE NEEDS A REST DAY , CAN ANYBODY ELSE PLAY SS ? . A LEAST ONCE A WEEK

  2. The 1st play was not an error on The short stop. The ball was back handed over the base- the 2nd basman hesitated and was not in position to get the out.
    E4. Not E6

  4. The only thing better than Yankees making sloppy errors, game after game, is when the Yankees lose. Okay, so Bryce Harper striking out, and striking out, and striking out, and loafing, and sulking about it all is better. But the Yankees defeating themselves is good, too. They almost achieved that here, but there's always the next game. Go Red Sox!

  5. Jazz Chisholm got his Ph.D. in Stylin' After Whiffin' from Robinson Cano's Too Cool to Care school. (Wins a 10-class credit at Trump University.)

  6. Man I love Volpe, but he makes Goldy’s job so much harder because he can’t make a throw from short to first that he doesn’t have to scoop out of the dirt. On a routine ground ball it shouldn’t be that hard for him to hit him in the glove. Or at least keep the ball in the air and out of the dirt

  7. None of these clowns average .300 and above like the yankees of old with the exception of judge, so Volpe you should not feel any pressure, when the entire lineup is just ehhhh average if not below average………thats what happens when the manager fails to raise the bar!
