MLB LIVE🔴 Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels – Aug 4, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO

Live from Gan Autry Way. Welcome to Angel Stadium. We’ve got baseball on the show. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels. First pitch coming your way next. Please welcome your Los Angeles angel just about set to go now. So here’s the lefty Reed Detmers and Singy. That may be his name, but the strikeout is his game. Well, Boo, I can tell you’ve been working on that one. But yes, you are right. this guy strike out for nine over 11. I mean, that’s just getting it done. There are a lot of strikeouts in that other lineup. And when you look at what he’s able to do, man, it’s going to be a fun one to watch today. Tap foul at the plate on the ground. Right side and it goes just foul. That one is upstairs. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count. One, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Outside low. It’s two and two. Come on. Switch through that one. It’s a strike out. Boi just ran out of patience there. He took a couple of pitches to even that count off at two balls and two strikes, but that time chased outside the zone. And now it’s Brandon Laauo in for a strike. 0 and one. One out. Base is empty. All one. Just missed. Next offering in there for a strike. Two and two now. Fouled off. And they’ll do it again. battling here as he fouls it away. Fights it off. He’ll see another good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. That misses and the count’s full. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mount, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. So 3-2 is outside and it’s ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Boo. If I were him, I’d be nibbling around the plate as well. I mean, this guy’s just capable of hitting pitches outside of the zone and driving them a long way. Yandi Diaz now pulls that one foul. And it’s quickly nothing and two on the designated hitter. Lao leads off first with one away. That one almost got him. Two strikes. Swaging a bouncer. Slinging it to first in time. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. And Chris, this group has been struggling to put up runs lately. Well, they haven’t been on base a ton. And then even when they are, they haven’t been hitting very well with runners on base. So they need a player or two to really step up, have some quality at bats, hit according to the situation, and sort of break out of this. I think if they do, the rest of this lineup will follow. Jonathan in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. And there at the knees perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the wall. He’s going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. Next pitch way upstairs. O2 fast way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. And the slider just misses. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field. And that is that one left for Tampa. Now the Angels will get their first crack at it. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here at Angel Stadium and on the mound now, Zack Latell and Singi. It’s unique these days, but he’s more of a pitch to contact type of guy. Yeah, Boogie. He doesn’t rely too heavily on the strike out. He knows he needs to miss barrels, get some soft contact, let the defense do work behind him. And I think a guy like that can keep a good temper, don’t give hitters time to adjust or think, they can move through a ball game and you look off, they’re in line for a quality start. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. Hit in the air right field. Low has it sized up, pulls it down, and he makes the catch. And there’s one down. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Taylor Ward. And Boo, he’s a big time run producer for these guys, man. Leading the team in homers, runs batted in, doing damage on the regular, man. Making opposing pitchers just sweat out there. It’s kind of fun to watch. Get ready for a show when he steps into the box. Mike Trout at the plate now. That’s ball one. And it’s one and one. I got one ball, one strike. The one-1 is fouled off and a pitch. Swing in a bouncer towards third. Slings it across and they got him. Batting third, first baseman. Nolan. Two outs. Base is empty. And now Nolan Showell. Let’s go. You have to be creative pitching against bad ball hitters. You got to add some velocity, subtract at times. Just avoiding the heart of the plate isn’t always going to be enough. Guys like this can hurt you with pitches you wouldn’t expect them to swing at. Pitch misses outside. Two and one. Two out. Base is empty. That one fouled off. Two and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Angels go quietly there. We played an inning. No score. Back in Anaheim. Top of the second. Now the third baseman, Junior Camo. Well, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip and the matchup is very favorable. Clips the corner. Strike one. And there’s a foul ball. And that’s in the dirt. in the air fairly deep to right field. Hauls it in for the one up, one down. Batting six, right fielder Josh Low. And now it’s going to be Josh Low. Come on, Los Angeles. And first offering is fouled off one. Eric Summersgill with home plate duty in this one. Kind of known for being generous with the corners. Chris, you know, I think that used to be a lot bigger deal in past eras where pitchers were working more in and out with their pitches. But yeah, we’ll see if those corners come into play in this one. Hey, no pitcher’s going to argue at all. on the ground and foul ball in the air. Right field and there’s two down. Batting seventh, left fielder Jake Mango. Two down, base is empty. Here’s the left fielder, Jake Mangum. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Late with the swing there. One ball, one strike. And that’s in for a strike. gets a piece and stays alive. Second inning here. No score. Backed off the plate that time. Oh, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where pitcher would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter that’s inside. Wow, this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. And that’s low for ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Pretty good pitch on 3-2. Right around the knees, but just no help from the umpire. Matt at first. Matt Thice comes up to hit here. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Thice measures 6 feet even in the eighth spot in today’s lineup. And they traded for him earlier this year. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes. There’s a ball throw there. Safe. That was close. But Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts, Chris. Yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases. Out there to center and that’ll fall for a base hit and they strike first as they take a one- nothing lead. Well, that was a great job of letting that runner steal second base, get in the scoring position, come through with the base knock, you add a run, and the batter will be the shortstop, Taylor Walls. First offering, and it just misses. a bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. One and one liner base hit throw stops the lead runner at second. Two on and two out. Back to back base hits. Solid swing from start to end. On time with everything. Really good balance. Nice extension and he met it out front for the line drive knock. And now the center fielder went down on strikes his first time through. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. That’s a ball. Two on, two outs. And a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Two strikes to a guy who’s already 0 for one with the punch out. The only guy in the lineup with that strike out, but you can’t get too relaxed. You still got to make good pitches to get him out. Pitch misses and it’s two and two. to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Bottom half of inning number two. And now it’s the Angels clean up. Taylor Ward and a swing and a miss. 0 and one. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s got a leadoff double. Love how he let that ball travel. Trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Here’s Joe Adele. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. Tying run in scoring position as the Rays try and punch back down a run. looking good. The O2. There he goes down looking. Away, away, away. And clearly that was the plan right there. He just wasn’t able to put it in play. And that should tell you something as a hitter. Sometimes you’re a little too conscious of the inside pitch and you’re not able to cover that outside part of the plate. So clearly some adjustments to be made next time. And now Yan Mona. in there at the knees. Whole one’s the count. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Ward the runner at second with one away. inside and count two and one. That’s a slider for a strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Strike three and that’s two in a row. So backto back strikeouts now and they still haven’t managed to do anything with the leadoff double. Yeah, Booie. You just don’t want to get careless here. You’ve done a really good job to get two outs after that leadoff doubled as you mentioned and just got to execute your pitches and it’s a non-issue. And next for the Angels, Logan Ohappy. Just missed. Ball one, no strike. Runner at second. Two down. Bottom half of inning number two. That’s through there for a strike. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. All sliders so far in this at bat to get ahead in the count and clearly shows there was a game plan in mind for how to attack him in the box. And a good eye there. Really good take especially with two strikes. Fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. So, no runs here on a base hit. No errors and one left. We head on down to the top of the third. It’s the Rays one and the Angels nothing. Onto the third inning. La at the plate. Second base. Deetmers back to work. Well struck right field. That one back. Bangs off the wall and he’s going to get to second with nobody out. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. He hit that ball really well to deep right field right there. Got a pitch to drive and just stayed through it nicely. didn’t quite have the trajectory to clear the fence, but you’re always happy with an extra base hit. Runner in scoring position, no outs. At the plate now for the Rays is the DH, Yandi Diaz. And that is downstairs. And that’s ball one. Well, these Rays showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. He’s only given up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense. Swing and a miss. And he was fooled. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. And that one almost got him. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Base hit center field. Here comes La. He’ll score and it’s an RBI single. It’s two nothing. Everything came together for him. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. Jonathan Orenda next to hit for the Rays and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Though Chris through the early stages, he hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. On the ground is short. Could be two. Neto to second. How about that double play? He’s so good at coming across the back and snagging it with the bare hand to throw. I like the flare that he brings day in and day out. Junior Camroero will hit next. That’s outside ball one. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball two. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. He was a little out front, but did a good job keeping the hands back long enough to foul that pitch off. And the two-1 hammered, but foul. and down on strikes. That’s a third out, but the RBI single pushes across a run and it’s two zip. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back ready to go for the last half of the inning. So in now for the Angels, Luis Reano. There’s the swing and a miss. Well, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. Next offering is in for a strike. Probably the best one we have seen. throwing it where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. Handles throws to first. One gone. Bottom of the third inning. Batting night right fielder. Here’s the rookie right fielder. Check swing and he went. That’s strike one. 01’s the count. Slider for a strike. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. and he grounds one to the right side and two straight set down to begin the bottom of the third. Now batting the shorts stop. Zack Netto the next to hit for the Angels. Fly to right his first time. Misses off the play and that is ball one. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Two outs. Chopped to first. Aranda steps on the bag. Angels retired. One, two, three. Angels held in check. They trail it here two nothing. Now a right-handed arm out of the bullpen. Jose Soraniano. He’s having a ton of success facing left-handed hitters this season. So this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate. Soraniano. Josh Low now at the plate. He’s 0 for one. Right fielder Josh Low and that is out of play. There’s the one hammered down the right side but foul. goes down looking. Now batting Jake Mang the next to hit. He walked and came around to score his first time up. And that one is downstairs. One and0. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. So a foul ball makes it one and two. hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he’s faced in this one. Getting straight to work. Man, it’s talked about a lot, but relievers are just so electric these days. He’s having fun at bats if you’re a hitter. And I’m so glad I’m retired. Stands in now. looks at that one inside right through there for a strike. Next pitch is outside. And that is in there for a strike. I believe that’s the split. Good job to fight that one off. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. got him swinging and he strikes out the side here in the fourth. Down in order go the Rays, but they’re on top two nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Mike Trout. First pitch misses. You know, these Angels, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches. They’re chasing out. Lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. He makes the throw, but it’s not in time. And a speedy runner is on at first. How about it? First base. No, now Nolan Shadow. He struck out swinging at his first at fouled off. He was late. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond, and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit. And hardly order coming up right behind him. This is where they need to get going. Low has it sized up. Calls it in. One away. Up next for the Angels. Left fielder Taylor. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. Doubled his first time up. That one off the mark. And that’s ball one. And another ball. Two count. Great hitter at the dish. If you’re going to miss, you’ve got to miss outside the zone. If you miss inside the strike zone, you’ll be asking the umpire for a new baseball. Trout on the move. Strike in there. Throw the second. Great jump. And that is a stolen base. It wasn’t even close. You know, nights like this when it seems harder to score. I like the call to put him in motion and try to steal the base. Ball’s not carrying no home run so far. So trying to manufacture some offense like this may be the way to go. Pitch misses there and the count is three and one. Oh, they’ve had a hard time scoring in this one. The pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking. Make sure that they don’t get any confidence. Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. I would throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Got him swinging now. Five strikeouts for him on the mound. You know, Boo, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. Joe Adell the next to hit for the Angels. Caught looking his first time up. That misses ball one. Let’s go. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Swing and a line drive and that’s a base hit into right field. rounds third headed for the plate. He’ll score easily and the tying runs at second base with a double. Well, back within one as he brings home the run. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. Here is Mona struck out swinging his first time. Yeah, there’s the strike. Oh, and one tying run in scoring position. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Inside ball one. That one misses. Now two balls in a strike. Swinging a foul out of play. Right side hard hit. Aranda takes it himself and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. Angels get one on this double and this is now a 2-1 ball game. Back after this on the show. Back here at Angel Stadium. Ready now for the fifth inning. Now it’s the short stop, Taylor Walls. Short stop, Taylor Walls. Come on, Anaheim. First pitch and he just misses. Action in the Angels bullpen. Jack Kachanowitz, the young right-hander up and throwing. Garcia, the hardthrowing right-hander up as well. swing and a ball ripped right field and that one back and that one is gone and they boost their lead. It’s 3-1. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s the center fielder for two in this one. Grounds one to short and save. He busted it down the line for that infield single. Well, that’s one of those where you just have to tip your cap because he couldn’t have played that one any better. Stood no chance with the speed running down the line. Here’s the second baseman, Brandon Loud. Drove it off the wall last time, just missed out on a home run. This one chopped on the ground, but fouled. Soraniano in his third season. He features a sinker, a slur, a fourseamer, a splitter, and he works in a slider. Throw over to first and he’s back in there. Nobody out. Runner at first. And that one in the air, center field. Adele moves under it, squeezes it, and there’s one away. Now batting designated hitter Gandhi Diaz. Yandi Diaz digs in now. Part of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Soraniano keeping him close. the other way. Throw into third. He’s in there. You know, I was watching his rounds during batting practice today. So impressed with his ability to let the ball travel, go back up the middle and the other way. Sometimes when you step in the box during the game, you get a little anxious and you get away from that. But so far, I’ve seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation. Runners at the corners here. One away. Now here’s the Tampa Bay cleanup hitter, Jonathan Orlando. Traffic on the bases with one already in and we’re in the top of the fifth on the outside corner and it’s only two. Big pitch right here. He’s going to try to make a pitch. It’s going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double play. Two on, one out. Grounded to third. Could be two. Mona over to second. And that’s two. And the Rays get one on a solo shot. It’s now a 3-1 ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Here’s the Angels catcher, Logan Oh. Logan O’H. He was late there. Strike one. You know, these Angels finding ways to get on base, but they still need help driving them home. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position. So, a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. That’s foul off to the right side keeps the AB going. Andy O2 swing and a miss. Splitter in the dirt gets him. One away on a drop third strike. That’s about as nasty of a splinter as you’ll come across, especially in terms of movement. I mean, that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment. If he keeps it down, it’s just so tough to put wood on. Ringifo batting for the second time. And that’s strike one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. No balls, two strikes. Well, I think the key, I mean, if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. In plenty of time to first, got the out. He’s been racking up the strikeouts. And what’s so impressive, not walking anyone. I mean, this guy’s just going right after hitters, filling up the strike zone. And it looks like hitters, they’re trying to think with him, but they just are a pitch behind. Dominating stuff out there on the mound. Line to left. Mangum makes the catch and that’ll do it. And the Angels are gone in order. And it remains a 3-1 ball game. All set for the top of the six. And the batter now, Junior Camro. Soraniano back to work. Breaking ball misses down and away. Out towards right center. That’s well struck. That’s back there. And that one’s gone. He circles the bases. It’s 4-1. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that. and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. Josh Low will hit next and the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, these Rays doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. They’ve done a great job finding holes in the defense. Exactly half of their hits have come off the bat less than 90 miles per hour. So, the ball isn’t exactly jumping off the lumber, but they’re finding a way to make it work. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Line drive, base hit. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Other than ripping one into the gap or blasting one over the wall, there aren’t a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice line drive into center field. So, that definitely felt good. At the plate, Jake Mangum hit in the air left field. Ward pulls it in on the run. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. If the pitcher’s his friend, he’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. And now the catcher comes up to him. Matt thick throw low back on a dive. Here goes the runner pitching for a strike. Throw to safety. Tag and they got him. Just missed. They had a foul ball. That missed by a lot. Two balls, two strikes to count. And they’ll do it again. Eighth pitch of the at bat coming up. Hard ground ball. Base stop. So he battled through a long at bat and earned himself a hit. Man, that was a pretty good battle to play and I’ll tell you, feels pretty good as a hitter when you grind out a hit like that. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So, a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. Walls up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. And that one almost hit him. No strike. Thanks. The runner at first with two gone. Nope. That’s inside. Fun off. Foul. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. So now two on and two outs. Not what he wanted to do right there, Boo. That keeps this inning alive. Puts a runner in the scoring position and a chance for this offense to add on to their lead. So the Rays batting order turns over and now the center fielder one for three and he swings and misses at the initial offering. There it was a high velocity fastball in the zone. And I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. This to center field. It’s going to fall for a hit. Coming home. The throw in. Safe. It’s 51. Picks himself up an RBI. So impressive that he didn’t get tied up or jammed on that pitch inside. Instead, good quick hands allowed him to get the barrel to it. just shoot it up the middle of the field for that knock. Now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Jos Soraniano won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for new pitcher in the game for the Angels, Jack Kach. He’s been so good against lefties. Kachanowitz. So, two outs with runners on the corners. Brandon Laauo next to hit for the Rays. That’s a ball in the dirt, but kept close. Ball one, no strikes. No advance. Good job behind the dish. and another ball. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Runners on first and third. Two away. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Two on, two outs and he grounds one back up the middle. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. They put two on the board on four hits. No errors, but two are left stranded. Top of the order. Do up in the home half of the six. It’s the Rays five and the Angels won. Back in Anaheim, stepping in, Zack Netto. The short stop. They’ve got a potent lineup. And when you think about teams capable of rallying from this kind of deficit, they’re right at the top of the list. That’s in there. Going one. Well, they say it’s the best pitch in baseball. Strike one, you get ahead on a good hitter as well. gives a little bit more confidence to move through the at bat. The shorts stop takes a ball. One ball, one strike. Bounce to the right. The throw to first. One away. Bottom of the six. Now batting the designated hitter, Mike. And now batting Mike Trout one for two. He is quite an athlete. I mean you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. Drilled out towards left center field. That one carried and out of here. That one felt good. Home run number 20 on the year and they’re chipping away. It’s 52. Wasn’t fooled on the first pitch at all. He squared it up right away. Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. You saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. And all of a sudden, they’re back in this ball game. One out, base is empty. And next for LA, Nolan Showell. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Next pitch is downstairs. Swanging a grounder. Foul space side. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting left fielder Taylor. Taylor Ward. the next to hit for the Angels. Ward not having as much success with the bat here at home as you see the splits. And a foul ball. the 01 and that one fouled off. Oh, that pitches out. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. That’s hit hard to the ground and up the middle. Base hit. The throw to third and the throw’s offline. Safe at third. back against the wall with two strikes but found a way. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. And you can feel this crowd waking up a bit here as the guys are starting to make some noise with their bats. So, two would score in position with one out. There’s a swing and a try and it hops the wall. The run comes in to score from second and they trail by one. And now the tying run is into scoring position. Gets the job done as he brings home a pair. I’ll tell you when you smoke a line drive into the gap like that. I mean, sure, home runs are king, but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter more than a bolt the other way. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Zack Latell departs and he really had to grind it out, but he does leave with the lead. New arm of the mound in a moment. Now pitching for Ryan Pepio will take over here. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year, and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. One out, runner at second. Yawan Mona with a chance to hit. He’s been a great free agent sign. That’s too low. Ball one with the tying run at second here in the bottom of the six. that misses the zone. Two and 0. And you got to wonder with first base open, one out, is he going to get a pitch to hit? Action in the pen down there. Garrick Clevenger, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Angler, the right-hander, loosening up as well. Man at second. That pitch in for a strike. Two and one now. That’s a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that ballp. And next for the Angels, Logan O’Happy outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. Oh, look out here. He’s going to come up ready to swing in this situation. Late swing fouled off to the left side, but it is well fouled. gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. But three score in the inning. Two of them on this two-run double. It’s now a five4 ball game. And we’re back. New inning getting started. To the plate now for the Rays is the DH Yandi Diaz. Diaz. And that one is in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Sam Bachmann, the hardthrowing righty, is up and loosening. Fulmer getting loose as well. Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. Almost got him. Two strikes. And now two and two and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That one not close. And that’s ball three. Strike him out. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. And that’s where the swing. It’s a strike out. Next to bat will be the Rays four hitter Jonathan 0 for three in this one. Pitch misses there and it’s one and0. That one called just inside I think and on the mound. He’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation. Doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it though, but he clearly thought it clipped the corner. Outside low. Ball two. That one the other way. Calls it in. And there’s two away. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. That’s inside. One and0. And that’s in for a strike and it finds its way through for a hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. He was all over that way. Just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it, man. Sometimes that’s all you need to do. Just let the ball travel, put the ball in play, and just hope it finds a hole. Next to hit, Josh Low. First pitch just misses. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Camo off of first with two away. Hit on the ground to short. Needto offbalance throw in time. That’s out number three. The Rays strand just the one. They lead it 5-4. Bottom of the inning. And now it’s the switch inning second baseman Luis Rango. Luis Stano and fouled off looking to get the tying run on base. Bows it back with two strikes. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability swing and a miss and he’s down on strikes. Looks like he’s picked up right where he left off. Stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. And I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle in kind of has cutter action and it just bunches you off to whereas you can’t get your hands through and the barrel to it and not much you can do unless you recognize the spin early and you spit on it. One down. Base is empty. Two and 0. If you’re the pitcher, you’ve got to go right at this guy. It’s the number nine hitter in the lineup. You can’t be afraid of contact in this situation. Swings through that one for strike one. Next offer is down low. Zack Nitto in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Holding on to a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. Next offering is in for a strike. Three balls, two strikes. Stays alive. And he couldn’t hold back. He’s rung up on strikes. Zack Neto, the next to him for the Angels. Zack Neto. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. The shorts stop takes the ball. One and one. Next offering is fouled back. One and two now. Swings through it for the K and he strikes out the side in the seventh. Nothing across here this half. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Rays five and the Angels four. Now pitching for Sam Bachman on the pitch out of the penny here. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. Well, one run game. Now it’s going to be Jake Mango. Mango. And that skips in the dirt. Bachmann in his second season. He features a slider, a two seamer, and he works in a change up and that’s in there at the knees. That one fouled off and that’s in the dirt. Two and two. And a foul ball. He stays alive. The two now on the ground to the left. Fair ball. Got to love the resiliency he showed in that at bat. Battling with two strikes. Just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline. That’s really excellent back control and it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tea where it’s placed in different spots. That was just nice. And now the catcher for the Rays, Matt Thy Bachmann checks over to first and he’s back. So, a substitution needed at first because of the injury. On a pinch run, Johnny Duca fast for a strike. Yan and there’s a foul ball. fights that one away and the count remains 0 and two. Runner at first with no outs here. Throw back in quickly. First and second now with nobody out. Well, he found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. First and second, no outs. Taylor Walls getting ready to hit at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. First and second, no outs. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Oh, that’s it. The 1-1 is fouled off. And the slider just misses. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Duca at second. Dice at first with no outs. swing and a miss. Pulled the string of the change up. Well, he hadn’t seen that change up the entire bat until that hurt pitch. And you know, it’s pretty tough to deal with as a hitter. You’re up there battling, trying to read and react with two strikes and then all of a sudden a pitch comes out of nowhere and it’s a good change up. It’s just almost impossible to hit it when you haven’t seen it. Here’s the center fielder. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. Check swing. Did he go? No. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. On the corner for a strike and the count even at one. Swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. Runners at first and second with one gone in the air right side. No trouble here. Puts it away for the two away. Now batting second base Brandon Laauo. Brandon Laauo next to hit for the Rays. Known for his late inning heroics. Pitches in for a strike and it’s 0 and one. And that’s outside outside with a breaking ball. It’s a big opportunity right here, but I love the way he’s slowing the game down. He’s shrinking his zone, making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Next offer is in for a strike. And that’s outside. This is a really good feeling for a hitter at this point in the ball game. You know that they don’t want to walk you. So, you’re going to get a pitch to hit. You just better not miss it. Got him. looking. That’s a strike out. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Garrick Clevenger. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different, so we’ll see what he’s got here. Here’s Trout. He’s already homered here in this one. Mike Trout. Drilled in the air high and deep right field on a move heading back. That one is gone. Another homer. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. And we are all tied up. It’s 55 Ziggy. That’s number 399 for his career. With one more to go to reach 400. It’s kind of unfathomable and I’m sure he knows it. He put together quite the career to get to this point. Well, he almost dropped a home run right there. And I tell you what, he’d love another crack at it. During batting practice, you always like to work on that. And so close, but that one was just out of his reach. Now, here is Nolan Showel. first offering and it just misses. Nobody on, nobody out with a run in near the bottom half of the eighth inning. That just misses. Now 2 and 0. Tampa Bay’s bullpen with some action. Kevin Kelly up and throwing. Angler warming up as well. There’s the strike strike on the inside corner. Definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside. I really think the outer half is open. spoils that one and it remains two and two. Just off the outside edge. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Well, he earned his trip to first right there. It’s not easy laying off pitches that just missed the zone like that. And it’s a real discipline as well. He’s put a lot of work into that aspect of his game and it paid off right there. Taylor Ward the next to hit with pretty good speed over there at first base. I think the pitcher’s got to slow everything down, hold the ball a little bit, step off, just try to break the rhythm and timing of a potential base dealer. And there’s a strike on the outside corner and that is out of play with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. popped up, hauls it in, and there’s one away. Boy, that was a hanging breaking ball right there. I think he tried to do a little bit too much. Sometimes those eyes can get really big. I think his swing broke down as well and that’s what caused him to pop it up. Joe Adell the next to hit for the Angels outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads. Now snap throw to first. Kry back in safely. Close but called the ball and that’s ball one. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. Swing and a miss. Strike one. I got a ball. One strike. There’s the strike. Getting a little frustrated with the strike zone. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Way inside. Gets out of the way. Got him. Outside pitch got the better of him that time. Here comes Yan Mona for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. If he’s going to steal second, you want him to go early in the count. That way, he’s not a distraction to the hitter at the plate. Go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch. Walls brings it in. That is the inning. Mike Trout doing Mike Trout things. All even at five a piece. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Carson Fulmer. Now pitching for the Angels, number 49, Carson. Now into the game, Lamont Wade Jr. He takes over as the new first base. Now it’s the DH Yandi Diaz. Number 35, Lamont Way Jr. And that drops in for a strike. Action in the Angels bullpen. Kenley Jansen, the closer of the staff, is throwing. Next offering is in for a strike. No ball. Two strikes. That one just misses. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets. Misses. It’s a strike out. Jonathan Aranda next to hit for the Rays. Just missed. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. One down, base is empty. That one misses and the count is 2 and 0. Oh, that’s out. Junior Camero in the OD circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. There’s the strike. Swing and a highf fly ball. Well struck left field. That one is back and it’s out of here into the home bullpen for a homer. His second homer of this series. It’s 65. The brighter the lights, the more he shines. Yeah, this guy lives for big moments. And right there made a statement big time. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. And here is Junior Camroero. He’s already homerred in this game. That one catches the corner for a strike. one-run game here in the top of the ninth. And that one is inside ball one. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. Swing and a miss. Struck him out of the slider and there’s two gone. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Low stands in now and watches strike one. That’s off the inside corner and now it’s even one and one. Next offering is fouled back. Starting to go to one two. A check on it to third and he held up. Swing and a chopper out to short and that’s the third out. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now 65. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Pete Fairbanks. Well, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down wins. So, this game has gone to plan, more or less. Let’s see if he can wrap it up here. Well, one game. So, in for the Angels. Logan O’H for three with three strikeouts. A lot of times you’re looking for a guy to get that tying run on base, but because of the power, you want him to tie up the game with one swing here. Inside almost got him, one-run game. Bottom nine. Oh, an interesting situation. In one swing, you can tie up the ball game. But if you’re patient and work a walk, then you bring the game-winning run to the plate. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Next offering is in for a strike. top of the zone for a cold strike. Now, just a cement mixer slider right there. It’s a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on it. Outside low and the count is filled up. That’s a really good take. Luis Reano in the deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. strikes him out with a 100. Well, the first batter, it’s always a big one for the closer. I mean, you get that punch out, you get settled in, you feel like you’re in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that, you know, you’re going to wrap this thing up. Ringifo in the box now as he leaves that one up high. A onun lead and the home team trying to pull it out. And that one fouled off. Next offering is downstairs. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When he elevates, guys aren’t touched. Close one. Doesn’t get the call and it’s three and two. Well, clearly not too happy with the call there. thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that’s not up. Tried to check his swing. Appeal to third. Ah, and he punches him out. He went around. This is definitely what a team likes to see out of their closer. Come in and just destroy all hope. First two batters, two strikeouts. See if he can strike out the side. And that’s fouled off. Ball one there. misses outside now. Two balls in a strike. Trying to close out a one-run lead. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Next pitch misses. Three and one now. Big pitch coming right here. Last thing he wants to do is put the tying run on base, but he can’t groove one either. Swinging. He popped it up. Camero and he’ll make the catch. Ball game. And the Rays hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. Well, you take a tie ball game into the ninth on the road. You know that you’ve got some work to do. You got to score, but then you’ve also got to get three outs in the bottom half of that inning. They did just that today. Very well played ball game. Get this win on the road. Everybody’s happy with the W. Heat. Heat. I’m the move.
