NFC West Rival Just Gave The 49ers A MASSIVE Gift | San Francisco 49ers

One NFC West rival just gave the San Francisco 49ers very good news. It’s a massive gift for the 49ers. We’re going to get into that in this episode, plus injury updates as well as some big moves the 49ers just made. We’re going to talk about all of that into in this episode. Hit subscribe if you’re looking for more 49ers content like this. I want to jump straight into a question for today because this one, wow. Okay. Jake Moody effectively won quote unquote the kicking competition. Now, we’re going to get into the nuance of that toward the end of the episode today. So, stick around for that if you’re interested in it. But, let me know in the comments how you’re feeling about Jake Moody winning that kicking competition. I I suppose you could say he won it. Like, I think it’s a fair argument. You can say he won it, quote unquote, but there’s a lot more nuance to that. We’ll get to later. I for one feel not at all surprised. I I’m definitely not sure if I feel good or bad, but I’m definitely feel uneasy and I’m not at all surprised. I told you guys the only way that Jake Moody loses the competition and ends up not being a 49er is if Greg Joseph comes out there and absolutely destroys him or if Jake Moody just falls off the planet. And you know what? He’s never had any problems hitting the kicks in practices. He’s been perfect. Well, I wouldn’t say perfectly fine, but he’s been fine. It’s really beyond the practices is where you have the concern. So, we’ll get into all that nuance later. Let me know in the comments what you think about that, but let’s jump straight into what we just learned about NFC West rival the Los Angeles Rams. Okay, now there’s some Stafford drama. That’s the start of it. But don’t don’t jump chip if you’re like, I already know what’s going on with Stafford because there’s a lot more to it that is getting kind of wild. But let’s start with Stafford and we’ll go back in time a week ago when Ian Rapaore tweeted this. Quarterback Matthew Stafford will begin training off to the side as he deals with some back soreness. Back soreness. Key words to pay attention to. Coach Shawn McVey told reporters McVey does not expect it to be a major issue. Okay. Well, Sean McVeyy’s been eating his words because as time has gone on, things have not gotten better for Matt Stafford. Here’s this from Brain Blaine Gris, sorry. Rams head coach Shawn McVey also noted that Matthew Stafford, this is a day ago now, saw back specialist Dr. Robin Watkins again on Saturday. It’s the second time that Stafford has seen Dr. Watkins in the last two weeks, which leads people like Jake the Snake to make pretty obvious and good solid observations. You don’t see a back specialist twice in the span of two weeks for minor soreness. And I would agree with that, but keep telling us everything is fine and that’s fine. You can keep doing that. Sean McVey, keep eating your words there. I think we all know what’s happening behind the scenes. Holding Cancer saying McVey just completely deflected. This was today now. Sorry. Updating now today’s news. McVey just completely deflected the Matthew Stafford question and said how fortunate we are to have a guy like Jimmy G. And then not Sean McVey tweeting down below it. if you can see a a reply to this one. He’s soft launching Stafford going on IR. I don’t know about all that quite yet, but it is definitely shaping up poorly for Matthew Stafford, which is good news for the 49ers. I would like to see the 49ers go out there and win on merit. I don’t they don’t need Stafford to go down in order to win the NFC West, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. And I’m not going to celebrate other teams injuries, but I’m also not going to act like they don’t have a good impact on the team. So that of course means that Jimmy G is going to play play out in this scenario says Danny G. And I love this I love this stake. Uh it feels different because he’s not a 49er. Stafford to IR Garopolo Renaissance for eight games captures their hearts lands on injured reserve Stson and Bennett season. Yeah, Rams are cooked. Okay, great take from Danny G there. Uh, one more comment on this one, Jay Grover, and I’ll tell you a couple other things that kind of have to factor into how this is going to play out very poorly for the the Los Angeles Rams. Rams fans for years would tell 49ers fans how bad Jimmy G was, but now they’re talking themselves into a worse version of Jimmy G being good. Laugh out loud, the circle of life. So, what else is there? Okay. So, obviously your quarterback is not the only issue going on for the Los Angeles Rams. Particularly, it’s the time of year of this injury because I could see you argue and and we’ll we’ll get to that. Like Rams fans might be feeling like it’s going to be fine. Even if he’s out a couple weeks, it’s going to be fine. Stafford’s getting old. He has history with back issues. That’s not the issue you want to be taking into the season. And this season especially is not the season that you can start slow. We know that the Los Angeles Rams have had a short-term history of slow starts. Last year starting off 1 and4, the year before that starting off three and six. And you are not going to get away with that this year because you have a really really tough second half of the season. Teams like the Lions, teams like the Ravens, really tough tough end of the season stretch, week 16, week 17 on the road. Like it is not an easy way for the LA Rams to finish the season out. And if you have your star quarterback missed the beginning of the season and you can’t find a rhythm and you have Devonte Adams out there saying what he’s said about Jimmy Garopppolo on Netflix, I’ll let you look that one up. I’m not going to go ahead and quote him on that one, but the the spoiler alert would be it’s not good. Actually, it wasn’t. The Netflix special was called Wide Receiver. Sorry, I think I said quarterback. Maybe I thought it. Not really sure. The point is Dvonte Adams did not like catching the ball from Jimmy G and he did not like playing for the Raiders anymore at that point in time. All of that being said, that tough schedule, that second half tough schedule for the Rams, I didn’t even include NFC West rivals. I think Arizona, I always start to think to myself, maybe they’re figuring it out and then I’m like, I got to see it to believe it. the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers are definitely not going to be easy teams to beat this year. Uh improvements on the way. Injuries is are the only way that the Rams get lucky this year. Um things just have to fall perfectly for their schedule for the for the 49ers to not be a very very difficult opponent. I believe everything is working in the favor of the 49ers in that regard. And that’s good news. That’s not the only news that we have today. I do have some good injury news as well. Uh starting with uh let’s see here in the midst of Monday practice defensive end Nick Bosa working on the side as he deals with some soreness. Demodor Lenor is back. Colton Makibitz is back and running back Jordan James is back. Jordan James is the only one I was actually truly like worried about and I was only worried because we just don’t know and we’ve had so many running back injuries in the past. It’s really hard to watch a guy like Isaac Greno go down and do his shoulder thing. And now he’s going to be out for several weeks. I don’t know if I have that in my notes, so I’m just saying it out loud to make sure we get it out there. But Isaac Greno is going to be out for a few weeks. And the running back room cannot take more hits like that. No offense to Patrick Taylor Jr., he’s a solid back um for for like a third string, fourth string guy. But I think what we have in Jordan James and Isaac Greno, if he’s healthy, is more what we’re looking for. Isaac Greno as a change of pace guy. Jordan James as a direct backup to Christian McAffrey um if he needs a rest game or or uh you know whatever. Continuing on from what Nick Wagner had to say, others I do not see. Kyle use Isaac Gendo, Evan Anderson, Kevin Given. We learned Kevin Gibbons today did his pectoral muscle. That’s another one I’m not sure that I included in my notes. So yeah, I’m just letting you know that’s not good. He’s going to be missing a significant chunk of the season. So again, bad news in the injury room. Um, apart from Jordan James and Dion Lenor and Colton McKivitz being back out there. That’s good news. Okay. Samokuan was working on the side. Usual rest days for Trent Williams and Christian McCaffrey. Uh, Yeer Gross Moss who began training camp on the pup list with the knee injury is going through a fairly rigorous workout practice on the side field today reports Rob Lauder. He looks close to returning to practice. That’s a great sign. We need YGM this year. I’ll be honest with you guys, I’m sleeping on YGM on accident. I’m not intentionally doing it, but I just when I see his name, I’m like, “Oh my goodness.” Right? There’s this other guy who’s another versatile defensive lineman who’s going to be switching in and out. Guy can play from the inside, he can play from the outside. It’s going to give the 49ers needed depth with guys like Kevin Given, I know, totally different players, but guys like Kevin Given going down, you know, it’s just not an ideal scenario on this young and not very high depth defensive line. Yet Matoss needs to stay healthy. I’m just saying it right here. Kyle Shanahan said Kevin Given injured a pec and will miss a chunk of the season. So there you go. Use uh has a cut on his Achilles’s dayto-day. Samukuanu will miss a couple of weeks. Isaac Rendo will also miss a couple of weeks. I think I’ve said most of that. All right. Al Sacko saying this fairly reasonable statement. Dealing with injuries which happens but they don’t have the depth of recent teams. John Lynch said they’d take some lumps this year and it’s hard for me to see how they won’t. fully healthy, they’ll be okay. But an injury to any position group can really set them back. Uh uh yeah, argue if I could. That’s a fair point there. That’s definitely a concern. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if Jawan Jennings calf injury was definitely health related and not business related. This is fan fantastic but horrible at the same time. It’s fantastic news coverage. It’s it’s horrible reality. you you could ask him, but he tells me it’s his calf. Gotta be delicate with those calves per Nick Wagner. Now, the thing about this that’s really interesting, you guys, and I haven’t talked about on this channel, so you might have missed it if you just follow me, but um yesterday we had a blast. Richard Sherman, freaking took me way too long. Richard Sherman was talking about how maybe there’s something going on here and it’s not the calf and it makes a lot of sense. I don’t know. No confirmed reports one way or the other, but Richard Sherman basically saying, if I’m reading between the lines, I think Joan Jennings is holding out. He’s officially holding out or holding in, whatever you want to call it. He’s claiming that the calf injury holding on from OTAAS is the reason that they’re in the situation they’re in. Um he’s taking desperate measures or whatever. Okay, I don’t know what the details are. Maybe he started off and said, “Hey, I’ll be there on good faith, but we have like two weeks and we got to figure it out or I’m gonna I’m not going to be able to play.” So, I don’t know. We’ll see how that all plays out um with Joan Jennings, but it it does sound very possible that that’s the case. And Kyle Shanahan did not he didn’t push he didn’t do anything to make you think otherwise. I’ll say it that way. You could ask him. That’s not really a good start to No, no, no, no. This has nothing to do with that. Just saying. Very interesting point. Also 49ers also made some moves and and there’s a couple of these moves that are kind of big moves in my opinion. This is just my my take. But uh Isaiah N is one of those guys who got dropped today. That felt like a little bit of a big move to me. U because this guy on paper, okay, forget about wide receiver Acumen, just think about athlete. This type of guy you want to keep around. You know, 49ers kept Tariq Owens around for a while. I don’t think this guy is gonna be able to we’re gonna be able to pick this guy back up like we did with Tariq Owens. Notably, Tariq Owens also made it all the way to the cut day and then got picked up like a day or two later or something like that. But you get the point that I’m trying to make here. Isaiah Ner in terms of his speed and size and athleticism, you’d like to see him. But unfortunately, you know, I was reading Matt Baros’s reports a couple days ago, and he talked about how outside of that one big deep ball catch, he really hasn’t done enough to kind of set himself apart and get a lot of reps. So, it wasn’t looking good for him. Another big move here was the Greg Joseph move. We’re going to talk about that, too. But, I also skipped over Mason Ply and Tanner Morai. So, Tanner Morai is gone, which tells me that basically Bradley then becomes your uh Conor Bradley becomes your QB3. There’s some interesting takes on that as well. Let’s talk about the Greg Joseph situation for a second, though. I could uh I could actually pull some reports on that or some some statements from some folks like Matt Myoko. Uh it should be a good idea to do that. We we’ll talk about the Carter Bradley thing first. It’s worth noting that 49ers have decided on Carter Bradley, Gus Bradley’s son, over Tanner Morai is the third QB in the camp. This seems to increase odds that the 49ers just keep two KBs on their 53man roster, which opens up an extra spot. They desperately need that extra spot. Um, we’ll see where that spot comes. I’d be interested what you think on that one. I don’t think it’s going to come at wide receiver. Uh, just my gut. I think it’s going to come uh, uh, linebacker, uh, potentially corner, you know, somewhere in the secondary, something like that. I don’t think it’s going to be like a wide receiver thing, even though that seems to be a place where the 49ers are bringing in lots of players and pushing a lot of players out and that’s where a lot of movement’s happening. I don’t think they’re going to keep an extra spot on the wide receiver in the wide receiver room personally. But the interesting thing that Matt Mioa points out if you’re not reading between the lines there is that Carter Bradley would be more likely to say no if another team tried to pick him up in the in between. So if he does not make the 53 and then has to make it through waiverss, he’s a guy you you’d like your odds to get him through waivers and pick him back up. If you’re telling him, “Hey, hey, hey buddy, we’re going to bring you back. we have to let you go because we need the space because of all these injuries, but we want you here. He’s the type of guy with his dad and everything. You would think that he’s probably gonna do it. Whereas Tanner Morai maybe is less likely. Maybe there’s somebody who has their eyes on him. I don’t know. So, that’ll be interesting. Yes, Jake Mooney is now the only kicker in 49ers camp, but he’s still competing. If he does poorly in practices in three preseason games, the 49ers can still opt for someone else to open the season, which is an important point. And Kyle Shannon was asked about it yet. I think I have a take from him later in the episode as well, so stick around for that. But it’s a fair point from Matt Myoko. Just because Greg Joseph’s gone doesn’t mean Jake Moody guarantees the job. It just means that right now he’s winning the job. Okay? And when you think about winning the job, there’s a lot of incentive for the 49ers to keep Jake Moody around. As I’ve been saying pretty much all off season, don’t forget the contractual side of kicking the kicking competition. Jake Moody has two years left on his deal. Greg Joseph only one and all factors. Even the 49ers weren’t going to jettison the deal with 2x the team control. They can resign Joseph to another one-year deal if they need to. They wouldn’t be able to bring back Moody on that rookie deal team and price. It’s a straightforward maneuver really. Now, they’ll continue evaluating Mooney through the preseason, which will determine if another move is coming. I think that’s a fair uh really good insight from David Lombardi. just it doesn’t make sense if the if all things are basically equal and you’re looking at two kickers who are right now up to this point we’re doing pretty even it makes sense. Okay, Nick Wagner has the quote here from Kyle Shanahan on releasing Greg Joseph and if he could return I would have loved to keep him longer and allowed him to play that out longer but we had 13 guys out of practice today. We’ve got five guys on pup. It’s just too many people to have that luxury. It’s awesome to have two kickers and have them battle, but they’re not really guys to take reps. They’re not like there are not guys to take reps. We need more people to take reps for us. He’s not here, but uh being Greg Joseph’s not here, but whether you have one kicker in the building or two kickers, always know they’re competing with whoever it is out there. So, I don’t see it much different. And maybe that’s just coach speak, but I would I my gut is that’s more than coach speak. My gut is that is continuing what we’ve heard from Brent Ber that neither of the kickers have been up to the level that’s been expected of them which is basically 100%. And that’s Brent Boyer. If you don’t know Brandt Boyer, he has an attitude. He has an intensity about him in terms of the way that he treats his uh uh his players on the special teams. and his mentality is super um I don’t want to say like disciplinary or or like that kind of thing, but kind of more on that side of old school football rather than some of the new school uh you know buddy buddy coaches. He’s not one of those guys. So yes, he is going to push him to the very end. And uh it’s good it’s good that your head coach is going out there and saying, “Hey, just because Greg Joseph’s gone doesn’t mean Jake Moody is locked in 53.” I was uh I was at I think I mentioned the other day I happened to go down to Denver um and got to go to um a Benny Fowler film uh film review and it was super interesting super fun stuff um being in the film room with Benny Fowler and listening to what Super Bowl winning receiver say. My brother-in-law is a diehard Broncos fan, so you I was hanging out with him obviously. And in that conversation, he talked about how everybody the day that you make the 53man roster, everybody’s like, you know, big upping everybody and congratulating everybody and and just talking about like, you know, congrats, you made it. Even like the Dearius Thomas’ of the world, everybody on that roster was hyped about making it. And there was this feeling, this tension in camp, no matter how good you were, that you knew at any point in time you could get cut from this roster for one reason or another. You never know. And so there is that feeling I imagine for Jake Moody knowing that at any point in time he could still get cut. Like it’s not like a guaranteed lock he’s going to be on this football team. So I I respect that at least. And I’ll take that uh with a little that’ll be a little bit of solace for those of you that are like really concerned about Jake Moody. I think he’s going to be the guy going into the season. I really do. All he has to do is be consistent in preseason and he’s pretty much got the job as far as I’m concerned because again the draft capital, the the the two years of control, all of that. So that would make sense to me, but we’ll see. Hey, we’re 5 days away from the Broncos coming to town. We’re shorter than that. Actually, technically, we’re like three days away from broadcast coming to town, but I have question marks with the amount of injuries the 49ers have piling up right now if they’re not going to pull a 2024 and say we’re not going to have our joint practice uh unfortunately on this Thursday. So, we’ll see. You know what? Nothing’s been said about it yet, but I would not be surprised if they did. I would love to see them go against these Denver Broncos. I think this is an upandcoming team. This is a this is a highly underrated team by most people in the NFL. And so I I know I’m biased because my family all dieh hard Broncos fans, but I really do believe this this defense is incredible. This defensive line is going to test our offensive line like we have not had uh in terms of intensity and uh the volume of attack that they bring. And I think there’ll be good stuff offensively for our defense to have to deal with as well. So I think there’s a lot of good stuff there for us to uh hopefully get that scrimmage and then get that preseason or get that, you know, joint practice and then get the preseason. and I think it’ll be really good for us. But we’ll wait and see how it all plays out. You never know. But over the next few days, there’s a lot to come around. So, make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out on all the action. Appreciate you. And let you let me know what you think in the comments as always. And I hope you have a fantastic Monday evening.

  1. I swear if Moody misses a game winner from minus 50 yards, I'll lose my mind! Lmao, sometimes things are outta your control, and this is one of them. I just really hope he proves us all wrong because that's the only way I'll be happy with Moody keeping his job

  2. 18:59 yes Broncos are definitely going to be a tough team this year and its crazy they aren't being talked about a lot as a contender I think they're the Chiefs toughest opponent but we'll see

    BANG BANG NINER GANG ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

  3. They shouldn't have released Neyor before the games start…and sign these guys who are past any prime they may ha e had, also all these calf strains and hamstrings strains is noone Eating Their BANNANAS…..

  4. It depends who is judging the kicking competition and under what conditions. I feel like Allen Iverson. It's just practice. No pressure at all. When the lights are on and it's showtime that is when the real pressure test begins, not some measly practice. Or is this to cover a bad decision that Kyle and John are still trying to make good on?

  5. I think the Moody haters are kinda like Purdy haters… more emotion and fuzzy memory than fact. He had a bad run last year post-injury… 100% agree. How did he get injured in the first place? Our sucky-ass kickoff team couldn't tackle! They got not only one, but TWO kickers hurt. How 'bout our red zone offense? Maybe if they did better last year, we wouldn't be relying on a kicker to kick 55 and 58 yard clutch kicks to win a game. Does anyone ever look at it that way? How 'bout this factoid for the people saying "bring back Robbie Gould"… Robbie Gould was decent, I'm not going to say he wasn't… but he NEVER kicked a FG for the 49ers greater than 53 yards. Never. And the only two FGs last year by Moody that can be considered "clutch" were 55 yards and 58 yards and people are losing their sh:t over that. Get real. Most of his misses last year were post-injury and with a "new" unfamiliar holder. It matters. The relationship between the center, holder and kicker is every bit as important as the relationship between the QB and receivers… but no one seems to realize that.

  6. Moody is another Trey Lance. A poor draft pick. Fantasy gone bad. How fickle, Grappalo played well for the 9ners when healthy. Watch out for Jimmy and the Rams
… Playing the Rams will be tough games. Can't wait! Bang Bang 9ner Gang!!!
