MLB LIVE🔴 Los Angeles Dodgers vs St. Louis Cardinals – Aug 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Hello baseball fans and welcome MLB the show with a good one coming at you. It’s the St. Louis Cardinals taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. about to get started here. And today on the hill, Blake Snell and Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Brendan Donovan leading things off and takes a strike. swing and a miss. Struck came out some high keys for strike three. Just overmatched on that fast right there. And it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. Just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. And now it’s Ivon Herrera. It’s always an exciting day at the ballpark when you have a pitcher as good as Blake Snell on the mound. I mean, this lineup is dealing with a 6’4 lefty that does a great job of missing bats and has a variety of pitches that can beat you. Bats in there and a count one and one. Snell is tall. He can throw heat. And he’s the type of pitcher that loves to throw his best stuff as much as possible, which includes a nasty curve ball. Left field. Confor makes the catch and there’s two away. Now we take a check of the St. Louis Cardinal lineup. This group was shut out their last game, so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. you’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored and you want to get off to a great start, score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of. Alec Burlson in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. There’s a strike at the knees. 0 and two. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Two out. Space is empty and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That one just misses. Really good take, especially with two strikes. And that is a good eye on a pitch down low. Now two and two. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Two down. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. Eighth pitch of the bat coming up. battling here as he fouls it away. The 2- two on the way. Still Zilla picks up the strike out. One, two, three go to Cardinals. And now the Dodgers get a crack at it. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in LA and towing the slab, Matthew Liberator. What do you have on him, Sigy? Well, Boo, maybe a little pedestrian there in terms of the ERA, but with those numbers, you expect to be in a ball game and have an opportunity to win. And really that’s all his teammates can ask for. So we’ll see if he’s able to be consistent in this one. Now it’s the short stops. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays and a foul ball. and because of that big power arm is able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. And the swinging miss on strikes. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. That worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. And now Alex call. That one finds the zone. Strike one. Liberator, a tall lefty. He features a fourseam fastball, a slider, a sinker, a cutter, and he occasionally uses a curve. Strike three. And that’s two in a row. Felt definitely a borderline pitch right there. and he didn’t look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout. You know, those are tough ones to let go as a hitter, but with a human umpire calling balls and strikes, it’s always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes. Freddy Freeman will come up to hit. That’s a little bit low. 10. Hey, looks really sharp at the start of this one. This is how it’s going to be today. It’s going to be a tough one for this lineup. In the air to left down the line. Nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball. Two outs. Good job to fight that one off. Grounded to Gorman. Fires across the diamond and Freeman is retired. And the Dodgers are set down in order. Dodgers go down quietly. We played an inning, no score. Back here at Dodger Stadium. Top of the second. Wilson Contrarus now up to the plate. Snell back to work. Fast for a strike. Next pitch is downstairs. Gary Simmons has the plate duty in this one. Well, with Simmons, it’s not always your standard strike zone. Boog. It kind of gives a little extra in some parts of the zone and then can be tighter in others. But I think the important thing is he doesn’t get labeled as inconsistent. So, you got to stay ready up there. Two-1 now. What a stop. Gathers and throws. And very nicely done for the hour. That fifth short. Wow. He showed off great reaction time and arm strength on that play. We need to take another look at it. Yeah, no doubt, Luke. I mean, the Stackcast numbers are absolutely impressive. But that’s one of those plays I appreciate more with the naked eye. The reflex is topnotch. And this guy’s a magician with the glove. Mason win. Next up for the Cardinals, a change up missing and that is ball one. One down, base is empty. Swing and a chopper out to short. Sends it across to first. Two up, two down in the top of the second. Here’s Nolan Gorman. First pitch just misses. This hitter loves attacking the first pitch. So not giving him something to hit is a good move. And that’s off the inside edge. Now two and 0. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. That clips the corner. Man, that pitch was dotted. So much talent on display when this guy’s out there on the hill. That one way outside. Three and one. Lunges for it, but it drops for a hit. Batting seventh, right fielder Jordan Walker. Two outs, runner at first. And now the right fielder Jordan Walker. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Slider for a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the walls. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Next pitch misses outside. Two balls, two strikes the count. Well, I think he’s trying to get a feel for where that one missed. I mean, it could have gone either way, but he looked a little shocked for a second there. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Two outs. Stays alive. Still two and two after the foul ball. Fights it off. He’ll see another. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And the next pitch is way outside. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Pahes makes the grab and that is that. The Cards leave one. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back here at Chavez Ravine, here’s Tays Oscar Hernandez. Right fielder Tay Oscar Hernandez swinging a foul back and that’s out of play. That one finds the corner and it’s 0 and two. Ball one there. Looks like he thinks that should have been a strike at the top of the zone, but doesn’t seem to be too upset. That’s just a case where I think he’s trying to get a better feel for the umpire strike zone and what he’s going to be calling. That’s just a part of pitching. Fights that one away. Still one and two. The pitch and that one upstairs. He really committed to that fast ball up at the top of the zone. He knows that if he makes a mistake in the zone, it gets hit hard by a power guy like this. That’s a nice miss right there. And a foul ball. He stays alive to third. Gorman throws out the first. He didn’t make things easy for him there, but they still get the out. Michael Conorto. The batter will be Michael Conforto. And ball one counts one and0. That one hooked. Foul. The 1-1. Fast ball for a strike. One out. Base is empty. Two strike. Broken bat and it’s popped up. Win pulls it down and there’s two gone. Batting six, center fielder Andy Pah. Andy Pahes steps to the plate for the Dodgers. There’s the strike at the knees. Second inning here. No score that one outside and now it’s even one and one. Next offering is fouled back. Two down. Nobody on spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. That one not close. And the count is two and two. Swing and a miss. And he got him to chase. gets to it on the first in time. So the drop third strike doesn’t hurt him. And that’s that. Offense held in check there. We head on now to the top of the third. No score. And we’re back onto the third inning. And now the catcher comes up to him. Yoel Poso fouled off down the right side. Pop up here. Third base side. Freeland pulls it in and there’s one away. Got the pitch that he wanted. Just a little bit quick. Front shoulder open. Backside collapsed a little bit and the launch angle not where he needed it to be. And stepping in for the Cardinals, Victor Scott. This guy can absolutely fly. I think one of the faster players in baseball. Strike one. Swinging a foul straight back on the ground and it gets by him. Now batting second baseman Brendan Donovan. Now it’s the second baseman Brendan Donovan. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. And the first pitch misses for ball one. A healthy cut, tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. Swang and a miss. Missed that by a mile. Going to count one of two. And that’s down and away. Two balls, two strikes. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. Scott over at first with one away. Harson misses. It’s a strike out. It’s a good breaking ball there just off the corner where you can’t really do much damage, but it’s close enough to where you got to protect and he just couldn’t find a way to fight it off. Ivon Herrera getting ready to hit. Fly to left his first time. There goes the runner. There’s a ball. Throw safe. And that makes it 30 stolen bases for him this season. Singy. The best way to catch this guy might be on replay. Yeah, and sometimes it’s the only way to catch him. Boog. I mean, you see that sprint speed on Statcast right there. see late and just makes it very tough on the defense. A lot of pressure on those guys inside and that’s ball two. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. You got nothing. Just missed. Alec Burlson in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Runner at second. Two down. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Sit down. Man at second. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Hit in the air. Center field. Pah under this one. Brings it in. And that’s the third out. So one left for the Cardinals and we’re still knotted at zero. set for the bottom of the third. And now Alex Freeland check swing went around and that’s strike one. 01’s the count. Right through there for a strike. Got him. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. And next for LA, Dalton rushing. There’s a swing and a drive. Scott going back. Just missed it. Knight second baseman Miguel Miguel Roas at the plate. This one in the air right field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is the third out of the inning. Nine straight retired here to start the game. We’re tied nothing nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Alec Burlson. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Fouled off. He was late. That misses now one and two. Well, he missed badly with that O2 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. Next offering upstairs. Fouls it back with two strikes. Two two on the way. Line drive. Come on. That’ll drive you crazy as a hitter if you let it. I mean, he could have hit that ball more on the screws than he did. And yet, he’s got nothing to show for it. Hang with him. I know the feeling. Here comes Wilson Contrus. First time up. He grounded to third. sliced hard but foul. Contrarus 32 years old and he was born in Venezuela inside and it hit him. That ball got him and stepping in is the speedy Mason Win 0 for one so far. Hey, now turn here. Ground ball could be two. Fires to second for one. On to Freeman. Double play. Inning over. So they make short work of him there to the bottom of inning number four now. No score. back here in LA. Bottom four and now it’s Mookie Betty Bets. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike. You know, these Dodgers as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the plate. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to turns and fires the bats. And now one and two. And it skips in the dirt. That’s outside. Three and two now. Tried to back door him with that slider right there, but just missed off the plate. Good pitch though. And there’s ball forward. And that’s their first base runner of the game. That could jump start an offense that’s really struggled to score in this one. Don’t want to wake a team up with the free pass. Now it’s the DH. Alex call struck out looking his first time. Ball one in the dirt but kept close and no movement on the bases. It’s ball one. Smoked into left field. Base hit around second headed for third. And two on now as they try to rally here. Oh, just a nice job coming through and a pretty high leverage spot right there. Got a good pitch to drive. Stayed short with his bat path to the ball and caught it out front and he stayed long in his follow through. That’s how you split the gap and that’s pretty much a double every time. Here is Freddy Freeman. Golden opportunity right here. And the first pitch is drilled in the air out to center. Squeezes it. Both runners tagging from second and third. Throw is offline and he scores on the board first. It’s one zip. Sometimes all you got to do is your job and don’t over complicate things. Keep it simple. Runner at third, less than two outs. Put the ball in play. And a nice job with the sack fly. And now Tayaskcar Hernandez. He’s 0 for one. That’s in for a strike on the outside corner. And it’s 0 and one. Just missed. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. Dex offering upstairs in this situation. He’s trying to get you to pop something up or jam you. That’s a really good take knowing you got an opportunity to drive in a run here. The 2-1 this to third base hit and a run comes in. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. Just found a way to slap that ball down the third baseline. That’s really excellent back control. And it kind of goes back to all those drills you see hitters do off the tee where it’s placed in different spots. That was just nice. Michael Confor will climb in that one. Fouled off. Step off throw to first. Hernandez dives back in safely. Still only one out here in the inning. Swinging a foul out of play. Foul ball still 0 and two. And that’s outside. Two straight. Hernandez the runner at first with one gone in the inning. Foul ball still a one and two count. Swings and misses. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. Andy Pah steps to the plate for the Dodgers. He’s 0 for one. That one drilled left field and that ends the inning. So, it’s two runs on two hits, no errors, and a runner left. We’ve played four. It’s the Dodgers two and the Cardinals nothing. Back here at Dodger Stadium, all set for the start of the inning. Here’s the third baseman, Nolan Gorman. Snell back to work. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot late on that fast ball. You know, these Cardinals doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient bats out of him. starter leash has to be getting tighter with his pitch count where it is, but so far he’s been really effective in this one. That’s outside. Two and two. You know, sometimes it just takes getting to the bullpen in order to be able to score runs. And that might be the case today. Gets under and pops it up. Roas pulls it down and he makes the catch and there’s one down. Now, Batty right? Well, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. Walker batting for the second time and that’s strike one. Late that time. It’s strike two to that fast ball right by him. Slightly elevated. That’s a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound. See if he continues to climb the ladder. The Dodgers leading by two and we’re in the top of the fifth. Not close with that one. One and two to count. That one missing inside. And that one missing low. And a swing and a miss. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Joho next up for the Cardinals. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. popped up on the left side of the infield. Freeland, he’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. Nothing doing there for St. Louis. They trail it here. Two nothing. Back here at Chavez Ravine, we head to the bottom of the fifth. And now it’s switch hitting third baseman Alex Freeland. There’s the strike. Here’s a fun fact. Dodger Stadium was also the home of the Los Angeles Angels for four years in the 1960s while they waited for Anaheim Stadium to be built. When the Angels were playing games at home, instead of Dodger Stadium, they called it Chavez Ravine Stadium. Swinging a high-fly ball out towards right field. hauls it in for the out. Now batting the catcher, Dalton rushing. Next to hit, Dalton rushing 0 for one with a fly out to center. Breaking ball through there for a strike. Base is empty, one away. Last half of inning number five. And that’s in the dirt. Fast for a strike. Come on, Dodgers. Let’s go. That one 95 to finish him off. Left-handed batter facing a left-handed pitcher that’s got some sink like that at the end. It’s just the bottom falls out of it. But it looks like it’s going to be a pretty good pitch in that location that everyone says lefties love. Rojos in the box now. No balls in a strike. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. Hit hard. Face hit and that keeps the inning going. Now batting shorts stop Mooki bet. Here’s Mooki to hit. He is struck out and he is walked one called a strike. It’s 0 and one. 0 and one. Rojos off of first with two away. Foul ball inside. Gets out of the way. High in the air out to right. Walker gets under it and makes the grab and that’ll do it. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. We’re through five. It’s the Dodgers two and the Cardinals nothing. Top six. Here’s the center fielder, Victor Scott. First pitch misses. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Alexis Diaz looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Bond getting loose as well. Next offering is downstairs. Now in this three ball count down in the ball game, you got to be very selective. Take your walk if they’ll give it to you. got him looking now. Five strikeouts for him in the M. Well, just excellent location on that inside fast ball. Really locked him up. And it’s a hitter. It’s not typically what you’re looking for. You’re trying to protect away and then in. So, you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes. It’s hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it would be called a ball, but either way, that’s a really nice pitch. Donovan stands in now and watches strike one. And it’s even inside And that one is inside. Switch through that one. It’s a strike out. Really love the pitch sequence right there. I’m telling you what, pitcher and catcher on the same page right now. Ivon Herrera next up for the Cardinals. And there’s a foul ball. Two outs. Tap foul at the plate. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Tap dances out of the way of that one. No, this manager knows that his players are just trying to do too much. Everybody needs to just take a deep breath, relax, and let it naturally happen. Fans, another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. And down in order go the Cardinals. They’re still down. It’s two zip. And we’re back. Leading off, Alex. Designated hitter, Alex Call. First pitch not close. Just missed. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Two balls, one strike. Next offering is in for a strike. And there’s the ball. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Swing and a high-fly ball left field. Burlson on the move brings it in and there’s one away. Now batting first baseman. Here comes Freddy Freeman up to here. Very humble guy and you know on the field off the field and he goes about his at bats in that way. Boog he’s you know just trying to stay with the plan and that plan is hit the ball to left center field drive the ball that way let it travel. Yep. And that’s outside two and 0. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound from this situation ahead 200. He’s put himself in a really good spot. Next one misses three and 0. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Sunny Gray getting ready to go. Palante a hard throwing right-hander up as well. Let’s see if he gives him anything to hit here. Freeman will take his base. Now batting the right fielder. And at the plate for the Dodgers, Tayasco Hernandez. And that’s outside. And that one’s a little bit low. Ball two. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. Foul ball there. Freeman at first. One gone in the air. Left field. Burlson on the move to the alley. That’s out number two. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. And here is Michael Conforto. Bowl for two in this one. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Right through there for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches down an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. just misses in a count one and two. His understanding the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close O2 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Really nice slider right there. Sweeping across the dish, but just couldn’t hang the edge. cut on and miss. Struck him out. Picks up strikeout number seven. So, it’s no runs, no hits, no errors, and one left. We’re through six full. It’s the Dodgers two and the Cardinals nothing. Now, pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Alexis Diaz. He’s pitching on two days rest. So digging in left fielder Alec Berles and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Well, in this one, the offense has sputtered. Somebody’s got to find a way to get on, keep the line moving, and manufacture at least one run. Then maybe you get two or three. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Hauls it in for the out. Now batting first baseman Wilson Contrarus. Here’s Contrarus. Now Diaz measures 6’2 in 28 years old and he was born in Puerto Rico. First offering and it just misses. Counts one and0 and another ball. The Cards trailing by two here in the top half of inning number seven. breaking ball in there for a strike. Two ball, one strike and he grounds one to the right side and it goes just foul. One down, base is empty. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. Highf fly ball pretty well struck out towards right center and that one hops the wall and he’s got a double. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. Jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball now. A huge at bat in this game coming up. Mason win next up for the Cardinals. And that’s in for a strike. One highfly ball out to left field. Confordo. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now, Daddy, third baseman, Nolan Gorman. And the Dodgers will go to the bullpen. Alexis Diaz departs. Eddie’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now fishing. So the Dodgers have a new arm on the mound. Anthony Fonda. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. Nolan Gorman will hit next. One for two. Up and in. And that’s ball one. Ball one. No strike. That one is upstairs. Runner at second. Two down and fouled off. Here’s a rocket to right field. Drops into the glove and that’s the third out. Excellent work out of the Dodgers bullpen there midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Dodgers two and the Cardinals nothing. Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Sunny Gray. Well, he’s been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big erra. So this is an important outing for him to get on the right track. So digging in Andy P for the Dodgers center fielder Andy Pahz. And a foul ball. Next offering is in for a strike. No balls. Two strikes. Ball. That’s out. Yeah, that skips in the dirt. Pitch is in the dirt and the count’s full. That one ripped and one hops the wall, makes the turn and heads for second. And he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double. Man, he just absolutely turned on that one. Ripped it down the line. Nice job of staying in his mechanics. Alex Freeland steps to the plate for the Dodgers and that misses and it’s one and0. You know, these Dodgers, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They’ve hit seven line drives already. And even though some of them have been for outs, there’s nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact. That’s almost always going to lead to positive results. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here. The bottom of the seventh. Got him swinging. Dalton rushing steps to the plate for the Dodgers. Rushing. That’s a strike. Pah the runner at second with one away. Next offering is fouled back. On the ground right side and it finds its way through for a hit. They’ll throw in, but it’s offline and they’re up by three. Good two strike hitting right there, B. A bit of a lost start for some, so that was nicely done to beat the odds. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. Miguel Rohox steps to the plate for the Dodgers. There’s the strike. Could use a ground ball here. Something in the infield. Runner at first base. Get two. Get out of this. Man at first. One away. Swag. Get a popup. Foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands and downstairs. pitch misses there. And now two balls and two strikes. Ripped to third and caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact. And that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Here’s Mooki now. Swinging a ground ball. They take the force out. Inning over, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Now it’s the right fielder Jordan Walker. That pitch clips the outside corner. That’s strike one. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you would have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Slings to first. First out in the top of the eighth. Couple of pitches and a quick out. And now the Cardinals catcher Yel Po. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. And a strike. Lefty continues to work, but the closer getting loose in the bullpen. That’s too low. One and one on the ground. Right side to first. Two up, two down. That’s a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game. It might not be the most challenging we’ve seen today, but it needed to be made. That’s helping your team. Two down, base is empty. And now Victor Scott. Fast for a strike. that one outside and it’s one and one. The only adjustment he needs to make is his target. If you aim at the outside corner, that slider’s going to end up way off the plate. Perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it. Popped up and that’s fouled. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the eighth. keeps the atbat going with a foul ball and they’ll do it again. Two down to and that just misses. Two two the count. All right. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. And it remains two and two. Five foul balls in this at bat so far. And these two are going headtohead. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. Tosses to first. St. Lewis goes down in order. Redbirds down quietly. They trail it here. 3 nothing. Out of the bottom of the eighth. Now the number two hitter, Alex Call. Alex Call. Gray back to work right through there for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. Fall off foul and Gary Simmons punches him out. That’s a strike out. Up next for Freddy Freeman up to the dish. First baseman Freddy Freeman in there and it’s 0 and one. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. And a swing and a miss there. No balls, two strikes. swaying and a ball popped in the air. That one gets down for a hit. Now batting the right. One gone runner at first. And next will be the Dodgers cleanup hitter to Oscar Hernandez to short. Could be two. Flips it. One at second and it’s a double play to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Through eight full, it’s the Dodgers three and the Cardinals nothing. Mike Cruz comes on trying to close it out. A chance at his first save of the year. Dodgers number 11. Back to the top of the order now. Here’s the second base. Brendan Donovan 0 for three with three strikeouts. Fast is outside. Just missed right now. Behind in the count, two balls and no strikes. No free passes. You can’t allow that swing and a miss. Strike one. It’s had a tough day at the plate. Three strikeouts already. It’s hard not to think negative, but you got to find a way to somehow center up the baseball and put it in play. Swinging a foul straight back. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Swing and a base hit. Solo runner aboard to start the inning. Now batting. And up next for St. Lewis Ivon Herrera 0 for three with two fly outs and a strike out and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Well, the late off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. Downing ball here. rolls. Foul the O2 and down on strikes and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. You got three straight fast balls looking in the O2 count just to pour it back. Burlson in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Donovan leads off first with one away. Swings through that one for strike one. I got one ball, one strike. And that is out of play. That one misses two and two. Good miss with that change up away. He needs a ball on the ground for a double play. Minimize the potential threat right here on the hitter side. Nice job of laying off that pitch. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. Lead runner holds at second base. First and second with one down. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. Couldn’t get any air under it, but he smoked that ball back up the middle. Timing was just perfect. Got great wood on it, and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it. Really important at bat coming up now. The tying run at the plate. Outside one ball, one strike. swings through that one for strike two. One ball, two strike. Up and in. And that’s ball two. That’s a really good take. Swinging a ball lifted in the air right field. He just missed it. He makes the catch and there’s two down. Up next for the Cardinals shortstop Mason Win. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Mike Cruz won’t go any further tonight. It’s a three-run game and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now fishing new pitcher for the Dodgers, Brock Stewart. I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Let’s see what he’s got here to try and close it out. One out left for the Cardinals. Mason Win next up for the Cardinals. 0 for three in this one. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul with the tying run at the plate. You’re in the top of the ninth way upstairs. And that’s ball one. with a short stop. Takes the ball. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Soft contact in the air. A dive. Nice stop. And this one is over. What a play to end the game. What an exciting finish to this game. An amazing play right there. It’s hard for the fans to go home. They want more. They’re not ready to leave and head to their cars. But an outstanding job to keep entertaining all the way to the end. A shut out in this one. Three nothing our final score. Dave Roberts and company celebrate in the dugout for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB to show. I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us. move. Double move.
