Miguel Cairo after another big loss to the Brewers

Amy Jennings here from the PNC Digital Desk presented by PNC Bank. Brilliantly boring since 1865. The Nationals do drop one today, but let’s listen to the thoughts from interim manager Miguel Cairo after the game. I going to They got a scrappy team, that’s for sure. And they know how to put the barrel in the in the ball and they can hit. They do the little things really good. They know how to run the bases. Of course, you got to get credit to that. That’s why they first team and they know how to they pitch good too. Play good defense and that’s that’s what a winning a winning team look like and you know they just they beat us. Simple as that. When a team is that good at making contact, are there any adjustments you can make or do you just kind of have to stick to your strengths? You just gota you you got to make sure you you want to keep playing the game and uh you know like you see today Lord was he got good stuff. They didn’t swing out of the strison zone. They make him work and he threw what 85 pitches almost 90 and in four in four and two third. It’s that that can tell you you know like how how good a bad they get and you know just it went it went the the wrong way for us this this weekend. We just need to get better, you know. We’re going to find out who can help us in the ben, who can who can be who can step up and do the job that we that we’re looking for. We just got to keep going, you know. We can know we got to play. We got to keep playing still like seven more weeks and we got to finish strong. That’s something that, you know, I know we got a fighters in there and I know that they’re going to keep playing and we just got to play the game a little more clean. That’s I going to put it that way and that’s my job. I want to make sure we we we got to keep working and play good defense, execute better pitchers pitching, and uh just get good at bats. How would you evaluate what you saw from the bullpen today and maybe why they weren’t able to limit the runs as much as we I got to tell you, you know, like we were trying, but they just, you know, that team is a is like a little pesky, you know, like they fall off good pitches and you know, like you if you throw ball, they they don’t want to swing. So they they know they I I I love what what I the way they do it because they don’t try to hit homers. They’re trying to hit gap to gap land drive and uh they know they run the bases well and you know that’s what we’re looking for too in my in our team you know like guys they get good at bats play defense play the the the nine innings 27 outs and that’s that’s what we’re going to preach. You mentioned Lord’s high pitch count. That’s the first time we’ve seen that happen to him. Um, can that at least help build him up now where he is, you know, ready to be a full Oh, yes, def definitely. You know, like definitely he’s, you know, you know how he been pitching since and the ben the last two start and today he was he was feeling fine. He I want to stop him at like 75 80. He said, “No, I’m feeling fine.” So, okay. So, he’s he’s going to be fine. He’s, you know, like it was it was it was good to see how, you know, he battled too against that that that kind of team and, you know, he did a really good job. Well, for now, that’s going to do it here from the PNC digital desk presented by PNC Bank. Brilliantly boring since 1865.
