MLB LIVE🔴 Houston Astros vs Miami Marlins – Aug 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
here in Miami Lone Depot Park. Inner League Baseball on MLB The Show. It’s the Houston Astros taking on the Miami Marlins. First pitch coming your way next. And now, please welcome your Miami Morland. So, almost ready to get underway. And today’s starting pitcher, Tyler Phillips. And for some reason, he’s not quite as effective here in front of his home crowd. Chris. Yeah, Boo. And the fans are well aware of that. for him. He’s got to just not press and go out there and say, “Hey, I’m just treating this like any start. Home, on the road, it doesn’t matter. My job is to focus on that catcher m attack hitters and just try to move through a ball game.” So, if he can find that kind of focus, doesn’t matter where he’s pitching because he has good enough stuff to go out there and win a ball game. Liner to second and picked on the hop to first. It’s there and that’s a great play. Now we check out the Astros lineup. Not a team that usually sees a lot of pitches or works a ton of walks, Chris. They take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league. They definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup. Hitters who want to be on the attack, and that’s great. As long as you got pitches in the zone, but if the pitcher is able to expand the zone, can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going. You’ve got to somehow draw some walks, put some runners on base so that when you do have those free swingers come up, you can cash in with some runs that are plated. One down, base is empty. Swing and a miss as he was late. 02 is the count. One ball, two strikes. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one, two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. And that skips in the dirt towards first. He’ll do it himself. And a couple of quick outs. Good armside run and sink on that pitch right there. Got inside on him and got him to bounce into that out. Two outs. Base is empty. Christian Walker the next to hit. I’m liking what I’ve seen from him at the dish lately. Batting over 300 so far this month in there at the knees. 0 and one. Phillips 27 years old and they traded for him earlier this year. Jack Swang called strike. 0 and2 comes up empty as he chases that one in the dirt. Got him. Inning over on the strikeout. Middle of the first, no score after a half inning. Back here in Miami and towing the slab here, Jason Alexander. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Well, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the ERA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have dropped over time. Xavier Edwards, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. Line drive and base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Batting second, the right fielder. And at the plate for Miami, Jesus Sanchez. First pitch just misses. Ball one, no strike. on the ground to third. Bears one out and two. What a play. Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. Mirez. Now it’s the Marlins catcher, Augustinine Ramirez. And a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Batting fourth, the designated hitter, Kyle. Now, here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Kyle Sters, and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Yo, one and that one sliced fouled. Ramirez off of first with two away. Come on, Kyle. Makes a sliding stop over to first and that’s a great play for the out. One left for Miami. Scoreless after one. All set for the start of the batter down. Cam Smith. Phillips back to work. And that’s in him for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Oh, don’t expect too many more high fast balls. This is a good sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch up in the zone. Look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective. Ricky Holiday, our umpire behind the dish, known as pretty fair umpire for both hitters and pitchers. Yeah, I think that’s right, Booth. There is a little inconsistency on the corners of the plate. You can’t always be sure how it’s going to go with those borderline pitches as the game progresses. Went with the sweeper, but it misses. That one the other way. And foul ball. that misses ball three. And that’s ball four. And that’s their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. Vic Keratini at the plate. First offering. Runner goes swing and a pop off in foul ground. Falls it in and there’s one away. That was a good hard fast ball with some nice ride up in the zone right there. Hitter looked like he was on it, but I think that velocity at the end just beat him. Instead of a line drive or something hit deep, it’s a pop up and an easy out for the defense. Come on, Tyler. Here comes the pitch. Runner breaks for second. That one fouled off. Phillips picks over and he’s back safely. Man at first, one away. He had a foul ball. him out. And now one and two on the ground right side and that one finds its way through. They get it in quickly. So first and second now one out. Cooper Hmel up next for the Astros. That’s in there. Well, all eyes on the double play ball in this spot. No better way to get out of this inning. Runners at first and second with one gone here in the top of the second in the air. Right field. Base hit. throw back in. Holds the runner at third. Base is now loaded. Only one away. The center fielder Chaz McCorman. And now the center fielder Chaz McCormack in there at the knees. That’s strike one. This one in the air right field. Sanchez ranging after it. He’s got it. Runner tags from third. Run scores easily and it’s one- nothing. Oh, that’s a quality at bat right there. You know the situation. You need something in the air and deep enough. And that’s exactly what he did. Good pass to the baseball. Now it’s Zack Short. How many times have we seen an early at bat change the course of a game? It happens every night in baseball. And maybe it happens again here. That one finds the zone and that is strike one. with a short stop. Takes a ball. Next offering is down low. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. Pitch misses there. And now three and one. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with the 3-1 count. Swing and a tapper then rolls foul. Fights it off. He’ll see another. Dubong the lead runner out at second. Pummel at first. Two out of the inning and down on strikes. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. Two men left stranded, but they do push across one. Now to the bottom of the second, it’s the Astros one and the Marlins nothing. Bottom of the inning and the batter now Lopez. Chris has been a good year for him having already set a new career high for RBI’s in the season. That’s the third. Dubong leadoff man retired here in the second. Batting six, the first baseman Troy Johnston. Now it’s the rookie first baseman Troy Johnston. A change up missing and that is ball one and downstairs. One out. Base is empty. That’s a little bit low. That’s ball four. Tried another sinker but couldn’t find a zone. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walker. Guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging it something out of his own. Runner on at first with one gone and stepping in the rookie left fielder Ary B. This one swung on and hit well way back there. And that one is gone. And the Marlins jump out in front. It’s 2-1. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at bat. You watch him from the on deck circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. And now for the Marlins. Graham Paulie on the ground of first and he takes it himself for the out batting nut. The center fielder Dave Meyers. Dane Meyers the next up for the Marlins. He’s going to finish with a new careerhigh in stolen bases. Chris And the first pitch misses for ball one. He’s great hitting the ball the other way. And that pitch did a good job to straighten him up a bit. Mission accomplished. Strike one. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in. Bottom half of inning number two. Next offering misses and the count now even up two count. Line to right and that’ll be a base hit and that turns the lineup over. The batter number nine, second baseman Xavier. Back to the top of the Miami order. Now it’s the Marlins leadoff hitter Xavier Edwards. One for one. He let off the bottom of the first with a single. There goes the runner. Pitch is low. Throw to second out there. And the inning is over. Two-run shot for Miami this inning. And it’s now a two-1 ball game. And we’re back. Here’s the former MVP, Jose Altuve. A alt altve always seems to be setting records or reaching milestones. Boo. In 2023, he became the fastest player to reach 2,000 career hits, 200 home runs, and 200 stolen bases in MLB history. Next pitch is downstairs. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, a head 20, he’s put himself in a really good spot. And the sweeper misses. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. Check swing called strike. Cut on and lifted in the air. Sanchez calls it in. And there’s one away. up next to the Astro. And now the catcher comes up to him. Giner Diaz for one. He grounded out to first his last time. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. Oh, and one. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Makes the turn and heads for second. the throw in into second and he’s got a double. Everything came together for him. Just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field. There’s a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate. Doesn’t come naturally for most hitters. And now it’s Christian Walker 0 for one so far. And that’s in for a strike. Come on. And the one pop dump. Johnston snags it for the second out. The batter, the right fielder, Cam Smith. So here’s the cleanup hitter, Cam Smith. He walked and came around to score his first time on. swings and misses. Went with the sweeper. Oh, one’s the count. Miami swing in the miss. Just a bit late on that 01 breaking ball. 02 hole. Now he’s going to have to shorten up, tighten things up if he’s going to have a good at bat. Man on second. Two down. One ball in the dirt. In the air. Foul off first. Johnston snags it. And that is that. a double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Marlins two and the Astros one. Back here in Lone Depot Park as we go to the last of the third and now it’s the switch inning second baseman Xavier Edwards. There’s the strike. bunting for a hit. Grabs it bare-handed. Nicely done for the owl. Well, he gave the bunt a shot there, but not able to execute. Yeah, I think he rushed it a little bit. And when guys rush, can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player. Sanchez in the box now as he looks at ball one. Second played appearance of the day for him. Now that’s smacked to right center and that gets down into the gap around first. Digging for two. Throws to second. So much of good hitting is finding holes in the defense. That’s why you’re always thinking line drive into the gap. Those kinds of swings really boost your confidence. One out, runner at second. And at the plate for Miami, Augustine Ramirez inside corner for a strike. And it’s 0 and one. Sanchez the runner at second with one away. Ball one. That’s off the mark. And it’s two and one. Swinging a ground ball up the middle. A dive. He’s got it to first, but it pulls him off the bag. Now, the definely big hitter. That one right there. Had the looks of one of those plays of the week. Great diving stop, but he just couldn’t set up to make a good throw. Maybe got a little too excited. He was probably feeling it as well, but either way, that’s a tough play and a tough error. Runners of the corners here. One away. Sters now at the plate. And the pitch a little bit low. Ball one. Two on, one out, and a base hit. Knocks in a run. Comes through with the RBI. That can be a dangerous pitch if you don’t get it inside enough because as a hitter, you see it coming across the plate the whole way. No problem handling it and putting a good swing on it that time. And up next for Miami, Otto Lopez, that’s a laser base hit coming home. He’ll score easily. It’s an RBI single. It’s 4-1 to third. Not in time. And it’s runners at the corners with one gone. Troy Johnston will hit next. Work to walk in. His first trip to the plate and a foul ball. Traffic on the bases with two already in to score here in the last half of the third. That’s a little high and it’s one and one movement in the bullpen. Ryan Gusto appears to be getting loose. That’s the third. Over to Alu. What a double play that was. Inning over. They put two on the board on three hits, one error, and one left. On to inning number four. It’s the Marlins four and the Astros won. And welcome back to the ballpark. John Shami with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Victor Keratini. Miami. And there’s the strike. Keratini goes 5′ 11 in 31 years old and he was born in Puerto Rico. Ripped but a curls foul. The O2 battling here as he fouls it away. Miami goes down looking. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever, but just the location with that velocity, it’s hard enough, even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap. Here’s Mauricio Dubon, one for one with a single so far. grounds one to short. Lopez sends it across to first. Two quick outs here in the top of the fourth. Now batting the left fielder Cooper Hmel. Two down, base is empty and stepping in for the Astros. Cooper Hmel a single his first time. Pitch misses and that’s ball one. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot and that misses. Now two balls in a strike. Back to back breaking pitches away, you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. Just missed. That’s ball four. Tried another sweeper but couldn’t find his own. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. Here’s the center fielder. Chaz McCormack drove in a run with a sack fly his first time up. Pitch is in there. That’s strike one. Oh, he’s looking great so far. It helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes. He might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up. Next pitch is outside. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He’s notched four strikeouts now. One left for Houston and they trail it 4-1. Back here in Miami, now the left fielder, Arberto Hernandez Hernandez. First pitch misses. You know, these Marlins doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mount. And that’s a little high. And that’s downstairs. Three and one now. Well, he hasn’t quite settled in out there. Four runs in three innings. He’s going to have to have some quick one, two, three innings to pitch deep into this ball game. And that’s a base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Now batting the third baseman. And now for the Marlins. Graham Paulie grounded out his first time and takes low for ball one. Grounder might be two. Takes it himself for one. Throw to first, but he beat it. Well, that looks routine, but it hasn’t been so easy for this club defensively this year. And you got to make those routine plays behind a pitcher. Helps him to get more comfortable and move through this ball game. Now, here is Dane Meyers, and he’s already singled in this game. Swinging a foul straight back. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an 02 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Misses outside and count one and two. Good eye on that spot. Really good take especially with two strikes. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. They fired in quickly. So, it’s first and second with only one away. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Manager out of the dugout now and he’ll make a move to dip into the Astros bullpen. Jason Alexander out of the game and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching for Ryan Gusto taking over on the mound. Well, they didn’t get much length out of their starter in this one, so they’ve got a lot of outs to eat up in that bullpen. I think they’ll look for some length out of him right here if they can get it. Xavier Edwards gets a chance to hit here. One for two. There’s the strike. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Well, he gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone. I’m sure he’s kicking himself and would like that pitch again. to the right side and that chance handled. Fires over to first. Fine play in the hole for the out. Now batting right fielder Jesus. Now the number two hitter Jesus Sanchez. Oh, he’s so good about trying to drive the ball to the opposite field gap in these situations. If he takes that approach, he could bust this game wide open. And a fast ball misses outside for a ball. And that’s ball one. Big moment in this game. Two outs, two runners in scoring position and could really break this thing wide open early. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. One and one. Second and third. Two down. The one-1 is fouled off. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. One run is in now. A long throw home. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 6-1. Nicely done. Brings home two. Pretty tough for the infielders to do anything with that one. He pulled it hard into the outfield. And even when you keep it on the ground, it feels great when you hit a missile like that. So digging in, Augustine Ramirez. And a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. Sanchez the runner at first with two gone. This one in the air. Keratini makes the grab and the inning is over. Two runs, three hits, no errors and one left. We played four. It’s the Marlins six and the Astros won. We’re back and there’s a new arm on the mound to start the fifth. Number 66 and he’s got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these hitters. And now it’s going to be Zack Short struck out looking at his first at and first offering is fouled off. Well, these Astros finding ways to get on base, but they still need help driving them home. They only have one hit with runners in scoring position, so a lot of squandered opportunities. It’s tough because those are moments you just can’t get back. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. And that one moves his feet. Miami blows the high heat past them. That’s a strike out. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Altuve the next to hit. Takes ball one. Base is empty. One away. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And that one is inside. That’s a slider for a strike. Wow. Just a beautiful back door slider right there. If you’ve got any chance of hitting that pitch, you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond. Just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either. Headed towards the corner. Fair ball around first. Heading for two. The throw to second is offline. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that with a pitch away. That’s exactly what you want to do with it. Drive it the other way. And right there, just barely able to keep it fair down the line for the double. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. Yer Diaz getting ready to hit. Known for his rocket arm behind the plate. And that one is popped in the air. Shallow setter Edwards out number two. The batter number eight designated hitter Christian Walker. Christian Walker the next to hit. Bowl for two in this one. And the slider just misses. And it’s fouled away. Runner at second. Two down. Miami. And now we count one and two after the swing and the miss. Well, there’s a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see. And he guessed wrong right there. Nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end. Miami. That one not close. And now two balls and two strikes. And they’ll do it again. Looked like he got a little excited on that fast ball. Got to think to yourself, want to stay up the middle that way. If you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field not. That’s inside. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Well, he’s desperately looking for that swing and miss. He’s going to have to just change speeds a little bit. Try to move it around. Create just a little bit of illusion at the end. Now a screamer into the outfield. Pulls it in on the run and that’ll do it. So the Astros leave one. The lead remains five. It’s 6-1. And we’re back ready to go for the last half of the inning. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami. Kyle Stardust back to work. That one pushed to the left and fouled. You know, these Marlins doing a good job of simply getting the bat on the ball in this game, and the numbers back that up. Double digit hits and zero strikeouts. I don’t know which of those is more impressive, but especially in today’s game, that’s something they can feel very good about. And there’s a strike on the outside corner. Fouls it off. Still one and two. spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another fouled off. And they’ll do it again. fights that one away. Still one and two. Right-handed reliever swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Well, classic pitch sequencing there to change eye levels for the punch out. That fast ball on the pitch before it was off. It was very competitive and that gets you thinking that he might try to climb the ladder, but then the curveball out of that same tunnel just falls off the table and you can’t make contact. Otto Lopez the next up for the Marlins. Close but called a ball and it’s one and0. One down. Base is empty. Yeah. One and one inside. Just missed. Oh, that two seam fast ball is a great pitch from a right-hander to a right-handed batter. just really teases the inside part of the plate. Runs in on the hands. Line to second. Snagged on the bounce. Altuve slings to first. Home of the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. The first baseman Troy. Two outs. Base is empty. Troy Johnston the next up for the Marlins. He’s over for one and first offering is fouled off. Hit hard on the ground to the right side. He gets there with the slide. Takes it himself and he got him. Nicely done at first for the out. Nothing doing for the Marlins. They still lead it though 6-1. Valente Beayoo comes on now and he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits period. Valente St. Yoso. Cam Smith digs in now. The right fielder Cam Smith. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. And the leadoff man aboard. And next to hit for Houston, Victor Keratini. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Oh, and one. Smith gets his lead at first. Nobody out. Swanging a ball drilled center field. Meyers under it. And there’s a one away. Now batting the third baseman, Mauricio Dubon. So a man aboard. Here’s the third baseman, Mauricio Dubon. hammered down the right side but foul. The Fish leading by five and we’re the top half of the sixth. This one in the dirt. There’s a 1-1 tap foul at the plate. Not close with that one. Two balls, two strikes to count. Got him looking for the strike out. Not sure about that call. Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three. Here’s the left fielder, Cooper Hmel. Miami. There’s the strike. Well, this looks like it’s going to be a wasted opportunities. Frustrating when you get the leadoff man on, but you can’t get him into scoring position. They’re going to need a big knock. Try to put something up on the board. Two outs. Swinging a foul straight back. Chopped to third. Paulie, they take the force out and that is the inning. They get a leadoff single but leave him stranded. 7 8 9 two up in the home half of the inning. It’s the Marlins six and the Astros won. Bottom of the six now. The left fielder, Arberto Hernandez. Hernandez. Foul ball there. Pitch misses there and the count even one and one. Clearly didn’t come out of his hand the right way. Left that curve ball way up. Next offering is downstairs. You got two balls, one strike. And there’s a foul ball. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. And that one upstairs, cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this, known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. Paulie. Now the third baseman, Graham Paulie. And that’s in for a strike. If I’m at the dish right now, I am aggressive over the heart of the plate. This guy’s been filling up the strike zone. So, you know, you’re going to get a good pitch to hit. And as nasty as his stuff is, you might as well take all three swings. And that one upstairs, ball one. I don’t like to say he wasted a pitch. I think that was a purpose pitch. Change the eye level. Have him look up. Now go back exactly where you want to go. In the air, left field down the line and it falls. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play. Boo. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Meyers. Now at the plate, Dane Meyers. He’s two for two. base knock right field. Throw into third in there safely. Nevada up and high. Second baseman Xavier. Xavier Edwards now at the plate. One for three. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Two on, one out. Hey, one way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. Flying drive out towards left field. That’s a base hit. In comes the run from third and it’s an RBI single. It’s 71. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped it into the opposite field gap. And I’m sure he’s going to be watching that one back on video because that’s the kind of swing you want to bottle. So many positives that led to that knock. Next to hit, Jesus Sanchez up and in. One and0. Well, he’s just given up three straight hits and now behind in this count to this hitter. Might be a good time for somebody to call a timeout. Maybe the pitching coach to go out there and talk to him just a little bit. And another ball. When the skipper calls down to the bullpen, he’s expecting the guy to come in and get outs. So far, not getting what he was hoping for. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck. Smith going back and it’s caught just in front of the wall. Tags up from second and he’ll head to third. It’s a really good swing. He just didn’t get quite enough of it to beat the wind. He’s blowing in from right field right now. Here’s the catcher, Augustine Ramirez. upstairs. Ball one. Fast ball for a strike. And that’s way high. And it’s two and one. Two balls, one strike. Two on, two outs. Just missed. That one finds the zone. Now three and two. fouls that off to the left and will do it again. And that’ll load the bases. Perfect. Well, interesting. He went with the off speed and walked the hitter. Man, you got to challenge the guy with the fast. Two outs, bases full, and next will be the cleanup hitter, Kyle Starders. They get the force that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand. So, they get one, but end up leaving the bases loaded. Seventh inning coming up. It’s the Marlins seven and the Astros won. back here at a blowout which gives us a chance to talk about just about anything. Don’t get me fired. All right, Singy, you’ve tightened up the hairdo, but back when you played, how valuable was it to have a barber in the clubhouse? Well, Boo, I’m going to say invaluable. That’s how valuable that it was because I was the barber. Yes, I was the team barber, man. I’d be cutting hair 7:05 game. I’d be finishing cutting someone’s hair at 6:45. Whoa. And I’d ask these guys, “You’re making millions of dollars. Why can’t you go to a stylist and get your hair done? You’re coming to the clubhouse pressuring me to cut your hair before a game. Would they pay you?” No. Absolutely not. Not even a meal on the road. So, I think it’s great now that most of these teams have professional barbers that come in and make them look fresh before the games. Scale of 1 to 10, how good a barber were you? For a non-professional, I’d say I was probably a seven. But if I was comparing to professionals, I’d be like a three. He doesn’t flinch at all with the front shoulder. Stays nice and closed behind in the count and hits this ball beautifully. I’ll never forget the time that I cut Jose Conco’s hair. He had a pretty big melon boo. And uh big dome. It It took a while. Yeah, there’s a little pressure there, too, because he had a big date that night and he wanted me to make sure that everything looked good. Wow. That out. He’s a big guy, too. I didn’t want him to hurt me. Yeah, he’s large. McCormack gets his lead at first with nobody out. Well, the laid-off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully, the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. I got one ball, one strike. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. Bull. That’s out. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Well, they’ve had a great plan of attack for him tonight. I mean, finding all the holes in his swing and his approach, just frustrating for him up there. You strike out a guy three times in a game, I think that guy’s got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach, figure out how they’re beating him, make this adjustment really quick, cuz Word will get around the league in a hurry. Jose Altuve up to hit here. Hit on the ground. Might be two. Lopez tossed to second. Double play. They can’t seem to break through. Inning over. This one pretty well decided at this point. Seventh inning stretch time. It’s the Marlins seven and the Astros won. Bottom of the seventh. Now it’s the short stop. Otto Lopez short Lopez and first offering is fouled off and a pop off right side. Foul territory. And there’s one down. Up next for the Marlins, the first baseman, Troy. And at the plate for Miami, Troy Johnston. Pitch misses inside. Ball one. Base is empty. One away. You’re in the bottom of the seventh. Right through there for a strike. Just missed. Next offering is in for a strike and a base hit into a right. And up next for Miami, Ariberto Hernandez. He’s already homered here in this one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. One’s the count. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. And that is downstairs. And the count is one and two. Recognize that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. And that is a good eye on a pitch down low. Two and two. And that’s awfully close. I don’t know how you take that. He’s seeing the ball out of the pitcher’s hand really well right now. Missed with a change up. Full count. Three and two. This one in the air center field. McCormick trying to get there and makes the grab. And there’s two down. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. So, a man aboard. And now for the Marlins, Graham Paulie. And first offering is fouled off. Fly ball down the line and that lands in no man’s land. A foul ball. cut on and missed and it’s a strikeout and that is the inning. Marlins leave one and they’re on top seven to one and welcome back to the ballpark. We’re in the top of the eighth and here’s the catcher Diazo back to work. He swings and fouls one off. That one pushed foul. Here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And a quick out number one. Now batting the designated hitter, Christian Walker up next for the Astros. 0 for three in this one. Miami that one outside and that’s ball one. So I can’t play around with him here. It’s a six-run lead at this point. Got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot. And it gets down for a base hit. Now batting right fielder Cam Smith. And now the right fielder Cam Smith. Come on. And first offering is fouled off. Walker leads off first with one away. Here we go. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Don’t play situation here. He’s been working up in the zone. Typically, you look for guys to get that ground ball. See if he adjusts on this next pitch. Here’s a swing and a line drive. And that’s a base hit into right field. Quick throw back in. lead runner holds it second with one gone. Now batting the first base, Victor. So next up for Houston, Victor Keratini. Lifted in the air out to left. Hernandez. That’s out number two. Now batting the third baseman, Mauricio Dubon. So first and second with two outs. And stepping in for the Astros, Mauricio Dubon. Foul ball. lined and that’s a base hit. Walker around third. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s off the mark and he scores. It’s seven to two. Well done. Drives in the run. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. Now it’s the switchhitting outfielder Cooper Hmel. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Ball one, no strikes. Traffic on the bases with one already in. And we’re in the top of the eighth and now two nothing. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Geronimo Santiago, the closer is getting loose. Bender getting cranked up as well. And that’s him for a strike in the air fairly deep to right field. Sanchez under it and that’s the third out, but the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now a 72 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth from Valdez. And he’s got a big time breaking ball to contend with. hitters going to have to pick it up early if they’re going to have any chance. And at the plate for Miami, Dane Meyers, three for three with three singles. Meyers, come on Miami. That one’s in there. One. Well, at that velocity, if that’s all you’re seeing, 88, you can handle that all day long. That’s what you get in batting practice. But off the velocity of the fast ball, that is a very tough pitch to adjust to. That missed by a lot. It’s a ball in two strikes. Gets a piece and stays alive. right side. Smith makes the grab. One down. The batter number nine, second baseman, Xavier. Xavier Edwards. The next up for the Marlins. Let’s go Miami. the other way. Now the throw to first on the run on the money. Nice play. Now batting the right fielder Jesus Sanchez. Two down, base is empty. Jesus Sanchez. The next up for the Marlins. There’s a strike. activity in the Houston bullpen. Hunter Brown, the young right-hander, up and throwing. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Oh, that’s off the plate. That one fouled off. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Foul ball still a one and two count and delivers outside. Two strike. Two outs. Base is empty. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. And the Marlins down quietly, but they’re still on top seven to two. We’re back. It’s the top of the ninth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Anthony Bender. And you know, both good guys can struggle sometimes when they’re called upon with big leads because it just doesn’t have the same intensity as a tight game. So, we’ll see how sharp he is. Your mental toughness matters in situations like this as well. McCormack leading things off and takes a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Calantrol getting ready to go. And that gets the inside corner for a strike. Ground ball to the right side. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly to first and he just gets it there in time. One away. Now batter short stop and the batter will be the shortstop Zack Short. Three strikeouts already. He’s 0 for three out in front with the swing. And that is strike one. He’s had a tough day at the plate. Three strikeouts already. It’s hard not to think negative, but you got to find a way to somehow center up the baseball and put it in play. Right through there for a strike. Got him looking for the K and just one out remaining for Houston. Well, that at bat seemed to be over as soon as it started. Three strikeout. You got to be better at the plate right there at least to foul something off. Extend that at bat. Astros down to their last out. Here’s the second baseman, Jose Altuve. Smoked on the ground to second on the first ball game. I don’t care if you’re a top team or you’re a middle of the pack team. Every ball club wants to be dominant at home. Winning a game like this just helps to boost the confidence and makes you look forward to coming out again for the next one. 72 your final here today. for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show. I’m John Shami. Thanks for joining us.

The Marlins area 500 team. They swept Houston when they were under 500. Now that they got there they seemed to freeze and lost two games at home. Scared of success Marlins
