Boston Red Sox vs Kansas City Royals Condensed Game Recap – August 5, 2025
It is women’s celebration night at Finway Park as the Red Sox host the Kansas City Royals. 85 win last night. Six in a row now for the Red Sox as the vibes are high at Finway Park. And tonight they turn to the lefty in Garrett Crochet. Hello everybody. I’m Emma Tedman, the director of broadcasting for the Portland Sea Dogs alongside Emmy award-winning host and reporter Alana Rizzo. And then Nessen’s own Casey Casey Hudson will join us on the sidelines in a little bit. But Alana, a first in the booth and a first for you. A first allw women broadcast team here for the Red Sox. Yeah, great to be with you, Emma. And I can’t wait to see Casey Hudson joining us momentarily as well. I’ve covered this great game of ours for over 20 years, but this is the first time as a color analyst. A little bit of a different thing for me. I can promise you Will Middlebrooks, Lou Maloney, your jobs are safe. We are going to have a great time though. And as soon as that first pitch is thrown, it’s back down to business. Absolutely. And talking about that first pitch, Garrick Crochet has been electric for the Red Sox so far this year. Tied for first place in the American League in wins with 12. See the RA 223, second best, and then racking up the strikeouts with 175. I mean, this guy is so much fun to watch. Hasn’t pitched since July 26, and that certainly is by design. The Boston Red Sox wanted to make sure that they managed the workload for Garrett Crochet because he is about four and two/3 innings away from his careerh high that he did just last season. They know that they’re going to have super important innings from Garrett Crochet in September and obviously moving into October where this team hopes to be. Well, here’s the 2- two swing and a miss. Chases that fast. Low it outside. We have our first crochet strike out of the night. The ball looks like it gets on top of you a lot faster, I would think. I mean, he’s a he’s a menacing looking figure out there. He absolutely is. As he records his second strike out of the ball game, he says he’s best when he’s dominating the inner third of the plate with his fast ball and the cutter. When he establishes that fast ball, that’s what causes hitters to not only swing and miss at the back foot sweeper, but get some really weak contact on the cutter in off the plate. The guy loves throwing strikes and we love to see it up here. Three strikeouts through two innings so far for Crochet. We head to the bottom of the second scoreless over a 10ame span. Here’s the one, two swing and a miss for strike three. Fourth strikeout for Crochet tonight. Now he is tied with wins with Max Freed with 12. Swing and another miss for strike three. Number five for the strikeout counter for Garrett Crochet. With Garrett Crochet and the Red Sox keep Garrett in there as long as you can and give the bullpen a break. 02 is hit to left field. Loftton onto the warning track. He has to turn and it’s off the monster. Gonzalez comes home to score. Durant to second. It’s an RBI double and the Red Sox are out front one- nothing in the third. 31st double of the year for Jiren Durant and he just keeps finding ways to get on base and driving home runs. I tell you what, I don’t know that there’s anybody that took a bigger sigh of relief that Jiren Duran wasn’t traded than probably Jiren Duran himself. What he has meant to this offense and what he’s meant to this clubhouse in this dugout. And not to even mention what he’s done defensively in the outfield. I mean, this is a guy that I kind of feel that the Red Sox go as Jiren Duran goes. Payoff pitch called strike three. Clips the low and outside corner. I don’t think India agreed with that one. Two- two high chopper third base side. It’s over the glove of Bregman into left field. Bobby Wood Jr. comes to score. Garcia rounding first. He’s thinking two. Slides in feet first and is safely aboard. The Royals tie things up in the fourth. That was tough defensively for Bregman. He did everything he could. It was just over his glove. Needs to grow a few inches, right? Get a little bit more vertical. Go ahead run in scoring position. Two on, two out, tied at one. Bottom of the six. Pitch swing and he sends it weekly to center field. India racing back. It’s over his head. Drops in. Redmond comes home. Here’s a preu and Trevor Story comes through again. Red Sox lead 3-1 in the bottom of the six. So there’s that player of the week. He’s on time. He’s slower. He’s smoother. He’s under control. Emma, he’s landing softer. He’s on time. So he’s swinging and missing less. He’s fouling off the good pitches. Sends one to left field. Durant on the run back. Still going back. Reaches out. It’s off his glove and off the wall. Raphael tracks it down on the warning track, tosses it in. Garcia rounds third. He comes home to score and the Royals pull within one. It’s 3-2 in the top of the seventh. This isn’t a Royals team that’s going to lay down for anybody. I mean, this is a club right now that’s four games out of the wildard race. obviously not going to get the division 9 and a half out of the AL Central, but a team that um you know they they signed Randall Gritic as a as somewhat of a sign that they’re willing to you know to move forward and and try to make this postseason. Such a tough play for Durant to make. That was almost deja vu to the play he he made last night. That Spider-Man catch last night that Casey Hudson was talking about as far as the Red Sox outfield is concerned. And it just got the top of the glove it looked like. Can you just see the frustration in Duran, an absolute competitor out there in knowing that he had one similar just last night? I’ve been hit four times, twice in the head, which explains a lot. All four times I’ve been hit was the visiting Camerawell at what is now Oracle Park in San Francisco. Swings through that one for strike three and out number two in the top of the seventh. Do you refuse to go to Oracle Park now? For a variety of reasons, I refuse to go to Oracle Park in San Francisco. But it is uh it is a death wish if you’re in that that visiting camera. Well, no kidding. I mean, my goodness. Getting better and better with that reitting. Here’s the O2 swing of his strike three. Garrett Crochet gets out of the seventh. Red Sox take the lead in the bottom of the inning. It’s got to one swing and a Breu sends it to right field. Grichic Brit racing and sprinting. Oh my goodness. And it splits between Griick and India in shallow right field. Run comes home. Bregman to third and again Willie Rreu comes through. Breman looking at disbelief in right field right now. Two-run score and that one was just lofted into shallow right field. Grick sprinting in. India was going out and luckily they avoid the collision. See Griik call off India. He’s calling for it. A two-run single for Abrau. First pitch swing and a bouncy ball up the middle and through. That’s a base hit. Bregman scores. Abrau around second and Trevor Story comes home with his third RBI of the night and extends the Red Sox lead. And you pointed it out. This is all two outs. Yeah, you’re right. We thought that the inning was going to go rather quickly and then a walk, an error, a walk, a single followed by a single. And Daniel Lynch will be the new pitcher for the Royals. Ball. Two strikes, two outs the pitch. And on the ground to Hamilton at second. Fields it throws to first and the Red Sox have won seven in a row. Boston is buzzing. 62 the final. And you have fantastic pitching from Garrick Crochet. The defense to back him up with Willu having a fantastic night in right field. And the offense shows up as well. You’re getting a little bit of contribution for everybody up and down the lineup. Obviously, the day starts with the momentum of the starting pitcher and Garrick Crochet has cemented himself, as I mentioned before, as the ace of this staff and he does it calm, cool, collected, aggressively attacking the zone. Tell you what, six to2 the final. The Red Sox uh have looked in unbelievably good over the course of the last three, four weeks. This is a team that’s a lot of fun to watch right now. This is a team that believes in itself. It’s been a pleasure.

βThat shit gives me a f***in bonerβ -unknown Red Sox player in dugout after Trevor Story 2 rbi hit πππ 4:50
Woman broadcasters doing men's baseball games…. NOPE.
Emma π
Listen closely at 4:52 π€£π
Women stick with women's sports. Enough of this nonsense. DEI hires ruins society.
Please let these broadcasting be few and far between. no hard feelings, ok?
I feel really bad echoing some of the comments made here, but as respectfully as I possibly can say, this broadcast isn't it. It just isn't good. I'm sorry.
Nice job ladies!
LOL. John Henry's trophy wife is one of the important "Women in baseball."
These ladies are great!!!
If you werent whining about the absolute dogwater Apple broadcast, then the only reason you're complaining about this one is bc you're a misogynist. I thought this call was great, especially given it's a one off, with no time to develop a report. Would be happy to see them again.
I wish that at least once in my lifetime, I'll get to actually watch a Red Sox game at Fenway. I love hearing our fans cheer on our Team. It's so electric! π€©π
Happy for our regular announcers again but these girls did a good job. The Athletics should bring them in and replace whoever it is with the hamster voice they have now. Also 4:52 was insaneπ
All women announcers……ugh. Men are running out of places to hide from these creatures. Can't even take a leak
Not a fan!!
Watched the game with the sound off..not a a fan of this!!!
I literally had to mute my tv and listen to the radio

Good commentary. In particular Emma had great cadence, feels natural like she's been doing it for years :3
I saw a couple comments about their gender, and felt like expressing my opinion to say that it's some ignorant nonsense to care about such things when it comes to good baseball.
This is a fun team to watch.
how the broadcasters made fun of ball bounced over Bregman was terrible
What a joke, awful broadcasting
Getting rid of Devers. Was a damn blessing. I so glad when he got shipped out. ππ
