MLB LIVE🔴 Tampa Bay Rays vs Los Angeles Angels – Aug 5, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
John Shan be with you alongside Chris Singleton. The first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner, it’s go time in the second half. And if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September, you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks. It’s the Tampa Bay Rays and the Los Angeles Angels. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. Almost ready to get underway. Today’s starting pitcher, Tyler Anderson. What’s a scouting report on him? Well, no doubt about it. He’s going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that erra down. Now, he’s got good stuff. He’s just got to be able to have confidence, trust it, and really go after hitters. Not nibble, trust that his stuff can have late life and miss barrels of bats. Diaz. Here’s the veteran first baseman, Yandi Diaz. Here’s a swing and a drive left field. And he knew it. The first batter of the game leaves the yard. His 19th home run of the year. It’s one- nothing. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can say that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. Well, so much for settling into this game, Boo. No courtesy first pitch take right there. He was ready from the second he stepped into the box, got a pitch to hit, jumped all over it. I tell you what, that’ll fire up the guys in your dugout. Hassan Kim next to hit for the Rays. Hard hit left side. Whips it across. One out in the top of the first. All right, let’s take a look at the Rays lineup. One guy leading the way offensively for this club right now, Johnny Duca. Tops on the team in batting average, Boo. guy who’s showing off some excellent bat-to ball ability when he digs in at the plate. You know, that’s useful if your team needs to get an inning going, get a leadoff man on, but it’s also incredible to have a guy like that in the lineup because he’s a run producer who can drive in runs if you’ve got guys on base already. So, he’s a huge piece in this lineup. And first off is fouled off. and downstairs. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading to count one, two, don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you can get hurt. One out. Base is empty. Next pitch is outside. Really good take, especially with two strikes out of the ground to third. He is safe and he beats the thrill by a whisker. Well, from the time you’re a little leager, you’re taught to hustle out of the box and give it a full sprint through the base regardless of how you hit it. And he didn’t make great contact, but the effort was there. And he earns the base hit. So, a man aboard, Junior Camro now at the plate. Called strike right there. next offering is in for a strike. Man first one away in the air right side under it. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Batting fifth, the designated hitter, Christopher Morel. Christopher Morell next to hit for the Rays. That one close rule to ball. And that’s ball one. ball to squirts away a little bit. Swang and a miss. There’s the change up. Two balls, one strike. And that one misses up and in. Ball three. That’s good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and in just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Loud off of first with Juel. That’s to third. Slings it across. That ends the frame. But they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. Major League Baseball is on the show. Back in Anaheim, there curve ball, Shane Bos. What should we keep an eye on here? Well, coming into this game, hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher. So, it just shows you how effective he’s been. He’s been able to move his pitches around, add and subtract, change up the look so that hitters don’t get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball. We’ll see what he’s got in this one. We go to the bottom of the first. So, in for the Angels, Zack Netto. That’s off the inside corner. Ball one. And that one fouled off. Lifted in the air. Left field. Pretty well struck. Mangle settles under this one, puts it away for the out. All right, let’s take a look at the Angels lineup. And one of the most exciting young stars in the sport, Logan Oh. Well, Boo, he’s a guy to watch because he capitalizes on the big situations as well as anyone hitting over 350 with runners in scoring position. And you know what that means? That means he’s a key player for this offense because he can really drive them in when the team needs him the most. He’s been clutch all year. One down. Base is empty. Swaying and a ball popped in the air. reaching down and makes the grab. Batting third, left fielder, Taylor War. And next for the Angels, Taylor Ward singing when the year’s over, he’ll have a new careerhigh for RBI’s in a season. And first offering is fouled off. And that’s in there at the knees. This guy’s pounding the zone. Hitters don’t have time to think in between pitches. Next one misses and the count is one and two. So here in the three spot, Chris, a hitter low average but high slug. Well, one thing he’s going to lean on are the metrics. His exit velocity has been really good. He’s just had some bad luck hitting the ball right at people. That just misses and it’s two and two. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an off speed pitch. Cut out and miss. Struck him out. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Angels held in check and it remains one- nothing. Second inning set to go. Here’s the center fielder, Johnny Duca. Anderson back to work. Fast ball for a strike and it’s 0 and one. and Paul one. Carl Dixon working the plate in this one. You know, we often hear and talk about umpires being a pitcher umpire, but Boo Dixon maybe a little bit more hitter friendly than most. He’s kind of tight on the corners, so we’ll see if that comes into play at all in this one. The 1-1 is fouled off. How much were you aware of the umpire scouting report or even who was going to be umpiring? Not a whole lot. I mean, there were a couple of umpires that weren’t real good, but outside of that, you just kind of went into the game, especially back when I was playing. Swings and misses, struck him out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. Josh Low next to hit for the Rays. That’s inside. One and0. Fast ball for a strike. That’s to third. Fires to first on the run and they get the out. Batting eight, left fielder Jake Mangum. Two outs, space is empty. Jake Mangum next to hit for the Rays. You’re nothing. And that one missing low. Two out. Space is empty. Swing and a miss. Strike one. One and one. Swing and a miss and a count one and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. Nothing doing it for Tampa, but they still lead it one- nothing back here at Angel Stadium. Stepping in the long ball threat, Joe Adell. No Adel hit hard on the ground to short and he can’t come up with it. Here comes Yan Mona. And that is downstairs. Ball one. Way to lay off that pitch down. Swing and a ball lifted in the air and it’s caught for the out. Batting six, designated hitter, Logan Ohappy. Logan Ohappy the next to hit for the Angels. He set a new careerh high in home runs this year. And Sigy, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible now in the dirt. Right through there for a strike. Tying run is at first. The Rays leading on the solo homer. That one finds the zone and it’s one and two. Cole Knight tonight. Boo. And that’s a pretty firm fast ball right there. here. I tell you what, memories of getting jammed, they creeping into my mind right now. Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Luis Reno gets a chance to hit here. Luis Reno. That one inside and it’s one and0. Pretty good pitch there to take a rip at. He wants to get his arms extended. He likes the ball away from him a little bit, just not able to square it up. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. One error in the inning, but nothing more. We head on now to the top of the third. It’s the Rays one and the Angels nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top half of the third inning. stepping in for the Rays. Nick Forz, we haven’t seen a break in the weather and the umpires might be forced to make a decision soon. Yeah, I think so, Boog. I mean, everyone looking and wondering when they’re going to stop play. It definitely feels close. This one popped up. Ranifo makes the grab. One down. Now batting first baseman Yandi Diaz. So the batting order turns over. Yandi Diaz next to hit for the Rays. He’s already homered in this game. That’s in there. Strike one. Diaz goes 6’1, 235 lbs. And he was born in Cuba. Missed with a change up. And it’s one and one. One and one. upstairs. Come on, Angels. Here we go, Angel. On the corner for a strike. Had a good eye there. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and there are two down. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. Kim in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike. Looks like the weather could actually play a factor in this one. It’s coming down pretty good. Yeah, it is. And it’s not too bad yet, but the field’s not going to be able to hold up if the rain gets any worse than this. So keep an eye on the pitcher mound as well and the rest of the infield start to puddle up a little bit. Hit on the ground to the right side. Shanuell takes it to the bag. Rays retired in order. Nothing across here this half. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Rays one and the Angels nothing. And we’re back. Here’s the catcher, Travis Darnardo. Catcher, Travis Darno. And there’s the strike. And a foul ball. just misses the mark outside the zone. His understanding of the strike zone very impressive. That was a very close O2 fastball. I just don’t know how you take that. The pitch fans another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Well, caught him looking on that fourth pitch of the ADATD and I have to think it had something to do with the sequence they threw at him. Kind of bounced back and forth between the outside and inside corners with the previous pitches and that makes it really tough to cover the whole plate. Just couldn’t get a swing off at that pitch on the inside. Digging in is the switch in outfielder and a swing and a miss. 0 and one. And he pumps in a strike. And that’s a little bit high. Now one and two. Pretty standard high 02 fast ball right there. If you’re smart, you’ll look for something down in the zone, but not too far. You don’t want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt. One down. Base is empty. Bows it back with two strikes. This one in the air. loud. He makes the grab and there’s two away. Now batting the shorts stop. Zack back to the top of the Angels lineup. Zack Neto the next to hit for the Angels. Fly to left his first time. That one ripped right center field back there. Didn’t quite have enough. Back in Anaheim as we go to the top of the fourth. Lao at the plate. and low. And that’s a little high. Well, these Rays doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of him. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there. And that might be the best news yet for this offense. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. Next pitch in for a strike. Going to count one and two. He’s been pitching well, but going through this middle of the order second time through, we’ll see what kind of adjustments are being made. Next offering misses. They’re now two balls and two strikes and a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone. But that’s one of the hardest things. But when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level, that discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. And here is Junior Camero. Bases empty, one away. Top half of inning number four. And there’s a foul ball. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. And ring him up, says Carl Dixon. That’s a strike out. Oh, big power guy right there and generating so much bat speed. It’s hard to bring that to a halt once you’ve committed. They tried to check the swing, just couldn’t do it. To the plate now for the Rays is the DH, Christopher Morell. And first offering is fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. And that is out of play. Good job to fight that one off. cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out and he strikes out the side here in the fourth. Three up, three down for him there. On now to the bottom of the fourth, it’s the Rays one and the Angels nothing. Back here at Angel Stadium, John Shabi and Chris Singleton with you. And leading off the bottom of the fourth, Nolan Showell. Just missed. You know, these Angels, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. So many of their outs have come from weak contact on pitches they’re chasing outside of the strike zone. You can’t do much of anything with those locations. And that’s been true again today. Swinging a miss at a slider. And as a pitcher, when the hitters are swinging at everything, you feel no need to challenge inside the zone. You just keep working the corners and expanding that strike zone and beyond and they just keep eating right out of your hand. Three, expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball, something in the zone because he does not want to allow the leadoff walk. Caught him looking for the K. Taylor Ward the next to hit for the Angels. Struck out swinging his first time. Ward. Fast for a strike. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. Next offering is fouled back. 0 and two now. And that one got him on the elbow. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Here’s Joe Adele. He’s 0 for one. Joe Adele. Runner takes off and that one fouled off. Foul ball still 0 and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And that one upstairs. Ball one. Way to lay off that fast ball up right there. You’re looking for something you see well that you can handle, but you also have to keep the Got him swinging. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Here is Yoan Monata in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. swing and a fly ball. Well struck left field. Manga makes the play and that’ll do it. Angels strand one. They’re down one- nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the top of the fifth now for Tampa Bay. Johnny Duca Anderson back to work. Slider misses outside. Next offering is in for a strike. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Josh Low next to hit for the Rays. Grounded out his first time off. Off the plate. And that’s ball one. right through there for a strike. This to third. Boots it. Gets off a throw. He makes the throw, but it’s not in time. And he reaches safely. Now that left field named First and second, no outs. So, next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Jake Mangum. He’s 0 for one. That one missed. All one. No strikes. shortened the bun and missed it and a count one and one. Anderson ready to work. Fast ball for a strike. One ball, two strikes. And that one a little below the knees and it’s two and two. spoils a two- strike pitch and he’ll see another. First and second here, no outs. Three and two in the dirt. Nice job behind the plate there. Nick Forez up next for the Rays. swing and a high-fly ball left field. Ward and that is a big first out. Now batting catcher Nick Forz. And here’s the catcher Nick Forz. First time up was a pop out. He’s looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this jam. Two on, one out. Ripped to third and caught. That swing right there tells me he’s seeing the ball pretty well. I know it didn’t produce a hit, but he made solid contact and that’s all you’re looking to do anytime you’re at the plate. Yandi Diaz. Now he’s already homered here in this one. Just missed action in the Angels bullpen. Jack Kachanowitz up and throwing. Fulmer warming up as well. fouled off down the right side. Two on, two outs. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Well, he knows they don’t want to give him anything to hit, but when you’ve got opportunities to drive in runs, you’ve got to expand the zone. He’s cap a he locked him up and that’ll do it. The inning is over. Sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve, but that’s okay as long as he’s getting results. And right there, thrilled with the punch out to get out of a jam. Bottom of the inning and now the designated hitter for the Angels, Logan Oppo. Well, these fans definitely want to get involved in the game. All it’s going to take is to get the leadoff man or even a base runner on. Oh, he doesn’t get the call. And that is ball one. swing. Get a ball popped up. Diaz moves under it and out number one on the grab. Now batting second base Luis Reano. And now it’s the switch inning second baseman Luis Ranifo. out to short. Kim tosses across the first and that quickly two away. We talk about how the ball is coming out of a pitcher’s hand. The way it comes out of his hand as an infielder. Wow. Really impressive. Travis Darno digs in. Went down on strikes his first time through. Let’s go Angels. Right through there for a strike. The Angels still looking for their first hit in this one. And there’s a ball. One strike. do it. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Looking sharp just a strike away from five shut out innings. Outside low. Two balls, two strikes. And that’s outside. on the ground to third. Camero tosses to first. Three up, three down. Inning over. Angels go quietly there. They still trail one- nothing. And we’re back all set for the top of the sixth. And stepping in for the Rays, Hassang Kim. Well, Kim is one of those players that it’s just hard to take your eyes off of them. And not many players in the 2023 World Baseball Classic had more fun than he did. He hit a grand slam in a win against China and earlier in the tournament had a two homer game delivered some special moments for Korea. Fast is outside. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Look pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. And it remains two and two just off the outside edge. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. Swings through it and that’s a strike out. Oh, I think he was waiting on the change up right there and he got it. It just drifted too far in on him. I think that pitch is just a little more out over the plate. Probably squares it up, but instead he’s going to have to go take a seat. and now it’s Brandon Laauo. He swings and fouls one off. Lao measures 5′ 10 in 30 years old now and he was a third round pick back in 2015. One down base is empty. Missed with a change up and now it’s even one and one. Just missed. They say who went down. Base is empty, one away. And we’re the top half of the sixth. The next pitch misses and the count’s full. These first two hitters really making them work out there. Already 14 pitches this inning. And they’ll do it again. Finds his way through base hit. So he ends up with a hit after seeing a lot of pitches. That was a good bat. batting third baseman Junior Camro manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Tyler Anderson departs and a nice effort out of him. No doubt new arm coming on. We’ll be back for that in a moment. Now pitching for the new pitcher in the game for the Angels, Jack. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Man at first at the plate. Junior Camro and the first pitch misses for ball one. Counts one and0. late with the swing there. I got a ball, one strike. Swing and a miss. That one at 99 count one and two. One- run game. One out, one on. Fouls it off. Still one and two. That one hit to right. Moving under this one. He’s got it. There’s two away. Now batting designated hitter Christopher Morell. Christopher Morurell will hit next. Bowl for two in this one. And that chops in for a strike. That one ran inside. Almost got him. Talk about tying a guy up. That was ugly. Loud the runner at first with two gone. That misses the zone. It’s two and two. Caught on and missed and it’s a strike out and that is the inning. Nice work from the angel pen there. 91 and two scheduled to hit in the home half of the six. It’s the Rays one and the Angels nothing back in Anaheim. And now number 51 right fielder Gustavo Campo check swing and he went. That’s strike one. 01’s the count. Yeah, there’s the strike. That misses. Now one and two. Rarely will you see a pitcher just a waste pitch like that. The batter wasn’t even tempted to swing. Every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out. And that one almost got him. We got Zack Neto in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. in danger of losing a no hitter here. In the air out towards left center and there’s one down. Now batting shortstop Zack Neto and next for LA Zack Neto. If you don’t get ahead in the count, you can forget about having any success against him. Fast ball for a strike at 95. Home team down a run here in the bottom of the six. Swing and a high-fly ball right field. Duca calls it in and there’s two away. Now batting first baseman Nolan Nolan Shadow the next to hit for the Angels swinging a drive deep right field. That one back there gone. Home run number 10 on the year. It’s 1-1. He ambushed him right there, Sigy. Yeah, swinging on that first pitch and I think losing one over the fence is exactly what he had in mind as well. Well, I’m sure there’s a big win on his face right now, Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat it looked like he was going to foul. Was able to keep it in there, tucked it nicely, and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. Now a chance for Taylor Ward. All one there, two outs. Swanging a highf fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. Looked like you got a little excited on that fast ball. You got to think to yourself, I want to stay up the middle. That way, if you’re a little bit early, you hit it out of the ballpark. If you’re a little late, opposite field, not two down, do on ball three. Three balls, one strike. Yeah, that’s fouled off. This one in the air. Diaz moves under it, makes the play, and it’s out number three. One in the inning, and it comes from a rather unlikely power source. All even at one a piece. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Luis Garcia. He’s pitching on two days rest. Now up for Tampa Bay, Johnny Duca. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Anytime you rip a line drive the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. And now Josh Low fought off foul. And now one hit hard but foul off to the left with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Swing and a miss. struck him out. Well, clearly just anxious right there and understandably so in an 02 count, you feel like you’ve got a lot of plate to cover and you don’t want to strike out and you end up striking out. That’s just one of those pitches where it’s not over the plate, but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand, by the time you realized it wasn’t going to be in the zone, it’s too late to hold up your sway. Now, the left fielder, Jake Mangum. First pitch and he just misses. Ball one, no strike. Move to first. Duca back in on a dive. rips one to right, makes a nice running catch, and there’s two away. That was just a great jump and route to the ball. Well, it had to be if he was going to cover all that ground and bring in that sinking liner. That’s the way it had to be done. Nice job. So, up next, Nick Forez. This is a good situation if you want to try to steal a base. Nine hitter, man, you’re about to turn this lineup over. So, get a little momentum as you turn it over. Two outs. That breaking ball drops in for a strike. That’s down and in. Next pitch is outside. Chris, with that distraction and the speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in. Fouls one away and now three and two. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap should definitely score it. Checks out to first, back safely. Two gone. The possible go ahead run at first. Foul ball and it remains a full count in the air to left down the line. Ward sizes this one up. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. The Rays strand just the one. Score remains tied 1-1. ready to go for the last half of the inning. Leading off, Joe Adelfielder Joe Adele. You can tell by their swings, this lineup is having trouble gauging speeds. Timing is everything in hitting and right now they just don’t have it. You know, these Angels being a little too patient at the plate in this game. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but today they’re continuing to fall behind in the count, and that’s adding a ton of pressure to their offense. The 1-1 is fouled off. The one two strikes him out for the second time today. Oh, that slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Here is Mona center field. Duca has this one sized up. They got it for out number two. Up next for the Angels. And now it’s going to be Logan O’Happy. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. He’s a big strong guy. Can untie this game with one swing. Swings through that. And it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today. Good fast ball, excellent slider, but they’ve not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there on the outside corner and a count is 0 and2 the count and a foul ball. He stays alive. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Swing and a miss. struck him out. Strike out number eight. Angels go down 1 2 3. Still tied 1-1. Andrew Chaffan enters the game. Well, walks have been a big issue for him this year, so I expect these hitters to be patient up there. Number 39, Andrew Chason. Back to the top of the order now. Yandi Diaz, Gandhi Diaz. That one missed. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Kenley Jansen, the closer is getting loose. Brogden getting cranked up as well. Oh, that’s low outside. Feel like he’s frustrated a little bit. He wants to be challenged. Hassan Kim in the ADC circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. It’s a leadoff walk and that’s the go-ahead run. He did not take the bat off his shoulder the entire at bat. Substitution now at first base. Pinch running here for the Rays number 14. So next to the plate for Tampa Bay, Hassan Kim 0 for three with two ground outs and a strikeout. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. The go-ahead run aboard at first. Nobody out. breaking ball in there for a strike. Well, he had a pretty good look at that pitch and not sure exactly what tied him up there. Couldn’t pull the trigger and perhaps the and a swing and a miss and one out now. Stood absolutely no chance on that slider right there. And I don’t mean to laugh, but that’s a tough one. I mean, pretty much a perfect strikeout pitch. I mean, it looks like a fast ball middle end. Kind of has putter action and it just bunches you up to where you can’t get your hands through and the barrel to it. And not much you can do unless you recognize the spin early and you spit on it. And the batter now, Brandon Loud, dives, and he can’t hang on. There’s one. Well, I really like this right here. He knocked the ball down on that dive and then was able to pick it up, get it to second base, cut that lead runner off, and that’s keeping a guy out of scoring position. And next will be the cleanup hitter, Junior Camro. 0 for three in this one. And that’s outside ball one. with a go-ahead run at first and we’re in the top of the eighth. Next pitch is outside. That’s a bullet, but it goes foul. Slider first drive. Probably the best one we have seen. Going where he wanted to have a nice tight spin to it and a teaser just off the edge of the plate. And that one in the air center field, drops into the glove and that’s the third out. One left for Tampa. Score remains deadlocked at one. Back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Baker. Well, he’s had trouble at times keeping the ball in the park this season. Something to keep in mind here. Ryan Baker, Tristan Gray getting loose there. He’s now in the game at first. First base number 10. So in now for the Angels, Luis Rangifo. And leading off for the Hill, second baseman, Luis Reano. That one in the dirt. And that’s ball one. Bullpen movement for the Rays. Garrick Clevenger warming up for manager Kevin Cash. That one’s in there. Got to count even at one. And that’s strike two. One ball, two strikes. And there’s a ball. Still two and two after the foul ball. swing and a miss. Struck him out and now one away. Now batting. So here’s Darnell with one out. Darno and the pitch is outside. Ball one. All tied up here in the bottom half of the eighth inning and fouled off. One down. Base is empty. Just missed. Two balls, one strike. The 2-1. This one. Chopped on the ground, but fouled. Next offering is downstairs. That’s a really good take. That’s ball four. Tried another fast ball but missed the spot. Now batting. Now it’s the switch hitting out. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. Tap foul at the plate. One away. Tie game. Go ahead run stands at first. Fly ball center field. Calls it in. Two away. And now the shorts stop. Zack Neto. Three fly outs already. He’s 0 for three. Neto. Hits the top of the zone at 98 for a strike. Felt impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch. That’s the key. Try to get ahead in the count and you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands. The one that one to first can’t glove it cleanly and they put the tag on him for the out. So it’s no runs, no hits, no errors and one left on. Ninth inning coming up. All tied 1-1. Now pitching for we’re back and on the mound is the closer Kennley Jansen. Should be a good first match up for him here. He’s been doing a great job against right-handed bats so far this season. They’ve had a lot of trouble squaring him up. At the plate now for the Rays is the DH Christopher Morel. Christopher Morell. Swag and a miss. 0 and one. And one. This to third. throws across the diamond. One up, one down. Johnny Duca next to hit for the Rays. swing and a highf fly ball out there towards left field. Brings it in and there are two outs. Now batting right fielder Josh Low. Now it’s the right fielder Josh Low. One for three. And that’s off the outside edge. One and0. That one missed. Good hitters count the 200 and another ball. Jake Bango in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And there’s the automatic. Two down, nobody on. You’re in the top of the ninth. Next offering is in for a strike. Two down. Doon gets a piece and stays alive. Here comes a 3-2. Got the looking game. It is a three up, three down in. So, no runs, no hits, no errors, and no one left. 234 set to hit in the bottom of the ninth. All tied 1-1. Back here at Angel Stadium, we head to the bottom of the ninth. Now, the number two hitter, Nolan Showell. First baseman, Nolan. Baker back to work. And that is out of play. Highf fly ball out to left field and there’s one down. Up next for the Angels. And next for the Angels, Taylor Ward. Now field playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. The bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. Double barreled action in the bullpen. Garrick Clevenger warming up for manager Kevin Cash. Fairbanks the right-hander also getting loose. That misses ball one. This guy’s got good power. With one swing, he can win it for him. I think he was sitting off speed there. two strike the one two battling here as he fouls it away. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And that’s in the dirt. got him swaging. He chased the change up. Two gone. So now the angel cleanup hitter, Joe Adell. One swing is a lot easier than getting two or three hits to win this ball game. You better believe he’s going to be all in to hit the ball over the fence somewhere. And there’s the strike, man. I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. And that one wrapped foul. These hitters like this that have so much power, look forward to seeing them hit the ball a long way. But if you’re in the stands or you’re in a broadcast booth or you’re a writer, better keep your eye on the game. Up and in. And it’s one and two. One ball, two strikes to count. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s the third out and we’ll play extra innings in this one. And welcome back to the ballpark. On to extra innings. And stepping in for the Rays, Jake Mangum. Jake, now this guy a player that if he gets on base has the ability to really be aggressive getting around the base paths right through there for a strike. Fouled off. He was late. Well, if he’s going to do something special right here, it’s going to have to happen with two strikes. And at second one, one ball, two strikes. keeps the attack going with a foul ball. Here’s a one, two, straight three. Got him swinging. One gone here. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He’s out in front there. Just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strike out. And now the catcher for the Rays, Nick Forez. That one down the line and it goes just fouled. Here comes the 01. This one in the dirt and the runner holds. Pitch misses and a count two and one. Home played umpires try to tighten things up a little bit. The count two and one and that one is inside. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. Tristan Gray in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. Hard hit to right center and it’s into the gap coming home. He’ll score easily. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. Now, here is Tristan Gray taking his first at bat here in extra innings after coming in on defense. That’s in for a strike. Jansen fires and the slider just misses. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Brock Burke, the left-handed reliever, appears to be getting loose. Brogden also getting ready. Falling behind. Two and one. Two-1. And he takes the strike. One out and a runner at second. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. I got three and two. Good slider down and in can be so hard to get on plane with. You’re better off taking that pitch. The kick the 3-2 and that’s who will win. It’s a strike out. Hassan Kim next to hit for the Rays. 0 for four. two strikeouts and two ground outs. The shorts stop takes the ball. Man on second, two down. And that’s in for a strike. Paul, that pitch is up. That one fouled off. Two and two. just off the inside edge. That two seam fast ball is usually coupled with a slider away. And when a hitter’s conscious of the pitch in, it’s hard for him to cover middle away. And that’s where a pitcher can really finish off that batter. swing and a miss. And that is that. But a run will score in the inning on this RBI double. And it’s now a two-1 ball game. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Pete Fairbanks. I can’t imagine any save is an easy one. You’re holding a small lead on the scoreboard and you know those hitters are going to give you the best at bats they can. So it’s always high stress. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Yawan Monata getting ready to hit 0 for three with three fly outs. And that’s in for a strike. In today’s game outs are valuable. So guys aren’t just willing to give themselves up to advance a runner. They’re trying to drive him in as well in the process. So I don’t expect him to shorten up and just try to hit behind the runner here. So the tying run at second fast for a strike. Well, we call that key holy. Even though it’s right there and looks pretty good. If he doesn’t love it, he’s not going to swing that early in the count. And that one is inside ball one. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. One and two now. Fights it off. He’ll see another. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. hits and misses. It’s a strike out. Oh, that right there is what you want to see out of your closer. Come in and close the door. Cancel any hope that the opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game. Tell you what, that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs. Oh, the next to hit takes high for ball one in the dirt but kept close. Ruer stays where he is but the count moves to two and 0. That one misses and it’s three and0. And you know this righty’s got to be worried about one swing ending the game. Wow, you actually said it this time. Normally you kind of dance around it. And ball forward to a board. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there. Anyhow, first and second, one out. And next for LA, Luis Ranifo 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. Swing and a ball lifted left field. Makes the catch for the out. Angels down to their final out. Travis Darnardo digs in now trying to deliver as the hero. Oh, how he’d love to walk it off right here. And that one fouled off. And that’s the inside edge. And the count is one and one. Hit to right and that ought to do it. And he’ll make the catch. Ball game. And the Rams hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game. Well, Boo, four games wasn’t too long of a losing streak, but they’re definitely happy to be back in the win column. Now you can turn things around, get on the right track, and probably start a winning streak from here. Heat. Heat. What the move?
