CONTEXT: Celtics Shaq” refers to Shaquille O’Neal’s final NBA season (2010–11) with the Boston Celtics. He was past his prime, often injured, and played limited minutes. The term is often used humorously to describe a slowed-down, aging version of a once-dominant player.

  1. Chris Archer was a really good pitcher until he came to the Pirates

Definitely not the best example, but the most recent one I think about

  2. Chan Ho Park! Awesome career, probably the best Korean player of all time, and he ended his career on a dogshit Pirates team.

  3. Obviously not hall of famers like Shaq, but a few names that come to mind for me include Todd Frazier (who had a 40-HR season in one year and a 35-HR season in another), Chan Ho Park, and Derrek Lee (Granted, he actually did alright in his short time with the Pirates, despite their collapse that season).

  4. I’ll always fondly remember Pokey Reese and Reggie Sanders as oddly placed Buccos.

  5. Hank Greenberg

Although his last season with the Pirates he had 2.7 WAR.

Not too many other players that are HOF and then played their last season with Pit

  6. Matt Morris, Jeromy Burnitz , maybe Morneau sound about right.

The thing is if you are using the Celtics Shaq example the guy had to totally suck while as a Pirate.

Takes out a bunch of these names like Lofton, Derrick Lee , Burnett (lol cmon he was great here)

  7. Maybe Jim Bunning, although he drifted for a couple of years after the Pirates.

  8. What do all of these players have in common?

    Kirk Gibson
    Derek Bell
    Raul Mondesi
    Mackey Sasser
    Ken Oberkfell

    >!all had 10+ years of MLB experience and hit under .200 while with the buccos.!<
