ST LOUIS CARDINALS VS SAN DIEGO PADRES ⚾ MLB REGULAR SEASON | AGO 03, 2025

Padres’s but for himself as well. It has been a weird year for Dylan and that continued on Monday night against the Mets. You you certainly hope this is somewhat of a reset. It has been a weird year for for Dylan all season long and none of us really know what the the the culprit is behind it, right? I mean, if it is indeed that he may have been worried about being moved, he no longer has to worry about it. is he is in here for the long long long haul and the Padres’s are are really depending on him to return to form because they expect to make a deep run when it’s all said and done and he’s going to be a major part of that if that’s going to happen. Let’s see if today he can kind of start the direction towards getting on that path. The weird thing about the game today is for the first time in this series none of the starting pitchers faced the other team last week in St. Louis. That does change the dynamic a little bit. Yeah, and that’s interesting cuz it was a four game set and so this is the one two the one matchup where they didn’t face each other and so uh for the Padres’s they’re just trying to get out of here with a with a series victory. They had a terrific series against the Mets. To finish it off and get two out of three here, go on the road only having lost one game at home would certainly be a nice little feather in their cap. Yeah, quick road trip begins tomorrow night. [Applause] And if you want a Son 5 and 6, I’ve got an extra five. And then it says has worked as a TV commentator, you know, and I did start back in 1978. I did the Yankees and the Red Sox playing the oneame playoff and ABC said, “If the Yankees win, Reggie will play and you’ll go broadcast with Howard Coell and Keith Jackson.” And that’s how I started my broadcast and that’s the Bucky Den home run. So every time I see Bucky Den, I go, “Thank you for making me a broadcaster. [Music] I was in TripleA and right before the game they said, “No, no, no. You got to stop. You need to hurry up and go to Cincinnati. You’re about to go play a game there. You got 45 minutes till the game starts.” So, I get in my car and I start driving and all I keep thinking about is which jersey are they wearing that night. So, when I get to the locker room, I see my my jersey hung up and love the white jerseys. Just the stitching on it, the old school feel to it. [Applause] Heat analog spa and salon. on. And Freddy Fine back behind the dish for the Padres’s. He’ll bat ninth. On the mound, Dylan Cece 3 and 10 with a 479 ERA. Jesse, like we said, weird year for Dylan. Go figure. He’s out there warming up. Padres’s in the camo tops here on this military Sunday. Cardinals back in there. Traditional road grays after the powder blue alternates in last night’s game. And boy, with Dylan, I mean, we we could probably spend the next two and a half hours just talking about his season, but I tried to think about the simplest, easiest way to illustrate what’s been going on with Dylan CE. And maybe this is the best I can do. He’s got the fourth most strikeouts in the National League and also the fifth most walks in the National League. There’s no other National League pitcher top five in both strikeouts and walks. You have stuff category. Clearly, he’s in there. Command category. In normal years for Dylan CE, he’s in that category, too. But I think that speaks to how he can lead or be in the top five in strikeouts, but also be in that same area with walks. And that’s kind of speaks to the year he’s had this season. Very, very weird. Mason Win will lead it off for the Cardinals. He stands in, cease, delivers, and first pitch swinging. Win sends it in the air, foul at the right field line. That is strike one. And we are underway. Mason Win leading off for only the sixth time this year. That was not the original plan for Ali Marvel’s team today. Brandon Donovan was a late scratch. We got that news about a half hour ago. No word as to why he’s not in the lineup. 01 pitch is up and in at 96. And now a ball and a strike to win. Who is generally batting down at the bottom half of their order. two for four last night with a two-run double in the fifth inning that put them ahead six to four. That would turn out to be the difference in the game. Foul ball here right at home plate and now one and two to Mason Win who has reached safely in seven consecutive games and hit in 12 out of his last 14. Ivona on deck. Alec Berles to follow here in the top of the first inning. Rubber game of this three-game series. Padre is trying to finish the home stand. 5 and one. Here’s the onetwo pitch. Swung on and miss. Blew him away with a 98 mph fast. First strike out of the day for Dylan Cease and one out in the top of the first. Just gas through one sweeper in that at bat. The four seam fast ball riding it to the top of the zone. Gets it by win for out number one. So the base is empty for Ivon Herrera who is doing something other than dhing for the first time in seven games against the Padres’s this year. Starting out in left field and the first pitch to him is a fast ball up at 97 ball one. They’ve got Contrarus as the designated hitter today. Herrera only his third start of the year in left field. They’ve all come in the last week. 10 pitch he takes and right on the inside edge. That’s a good slider and a called strike. One and one to Herrera on the season. Herrera now batting 301. He’s got nine homers, 39 runs batted in. One-1 pitch, swung on and missed. Different breaking ball that time and the count is one and two. Dylan Cece has been better at home this year than he’s been on the road in terms of erra. One-two pitch and Herrera fouls it off at Petco this season. Dylan a 399 erra. On the road, the number is about five and a half. So perhaps a little comfort here at home, although his last start was also at home. That was against the Mets on Monday night. Didn’t get out of the fifth inning. Gave up five runs. Here’s the one and two. Herrera swings, fouls it back. We do it again. One ball, two strikes. Talked about his season being weird. That start was a little bit weird for Dylan on Monday. No doubt it’s didn’t quite look like the other starts that he had struggled in where the fourth and fifth inning kind of started a little bit early. One and two and Herrera again fouls it away. Yeah, he kind of flirted with disaster the first few innings and kept getting away with it but eventually as is generally the case especially against a good team you end up having to pay the piper and he did when Mark Ventos hit a grand slam. One out nobody on just underway. One and two. The pitch to Herrera. Swung on and he just got a piece. Knocks it foul at the dish. The spur ball of the day for Dylan. And still one ball and two strikes. Now seven pitches into this at bat. All of these pitches have been tough pitcher pitches. Herrera doing a nice job spoiling them and creating another opportunity for himself. Four straight foul balls. Now it’ll be pitch eight in the at bat on one and two and Herrera checks his swing takes in the dirt and it evens up two balls, two strikes. Dylan in his last eight starts a 570 erra. It has been hard to figure. He has messed with his mechanics, his pitch selection. Fast ball high three and two. He has messed with the shape of his pitches, the number of pitches that he throws. He has messed with his facial hair multiple times this year. He’s done everything in terms of the superstition categories. Pitch 10 now and a hard hit liner into left field. That’s down for a base hit in front of Lauriano. Quite an AB for Ivon Herrera. And a well-earned one out single in the top of the first inning. Guy on top of the 99. Blazer in the left field after nine pitches on the 10th. Gets the line drive. base hit to left. Game time temperature 72° brought to you by Lineage Watch Company, San Diego’s very own watch brand and the official time piece of the Padres’s Radio Network. 40 years today at lineagewatchcco.com. That’s lineagewatchcco.com. Blue Sky Baseball at Petco Park. Alec Berles, the left-handed batter, stands in. He takes the first pitch curve ball for a strike. Nothing in one. Cardinals have Herrera at first, one out. and a guy at the dish who has grounded into 11 double plays so far this year. Second most on the team nothing and one the pitch and Berles pops it up foul ground left side that’ll be into the seats out of play and now 0 and2 on Berles starting at first base today after spending the first couple of nights out in left field. [Applause] sees sad of the stretch for the first time this afternoon ahead 0 and2 cause of the belt now the pitch and Berles takes high one ball two strikes burles an RBI single in the ninth inning last night also walked twice scored a run one for six in this series a two-run homer the final game these two teams played against one another last weekend in St. Louis the only two runs they got in the Padre blowout win. One and two is way up and in. Had to bail out of the way and somehow was not hit by that pitch. Count is now two and two. He got his arms extended and then had to bail. This ball was coming in tight. Able to avoid that 96 mph sinker. How moves the 22. That was legit up and in and he got the hands and the arms up out of the way somehow. Pitch coming and Berles sort of inside out in the air straight away left field. Lauraniano in two steps and he makes the catch for round number two. Herrera back to first base and the designated hitter Wilson Contreras coming up and Wilson Contrus slumping but still dangerous particularly as we’ve talked a lot about this weekend here at Petco Park. He’s finding ways to have influence on the game one way or another. Has has a knock in each of them. Hasn’t necessarily been his typical series against the Padres’s. Dylan to keep it that way here today. Homer day in game one. Doubled and scored yesterday. Also had a sack fly and he takes outside 1 and0. All that said, Contras three for his last 24. Cardinals dropped two out of three in Miami earlier this week or at home against Miami earlier this week and now trying to avoid the same fate in San Diego. One pitch and Contras laid on a fast ball swings and misses one and one. He is their leading RBI guy this year. He’s got 63 on the season. Contras has hit in nine straight games here at Petco and homered in five of those nine games. No score top one. Here’s the pitch and Contras kind of a threequarters swing and miss. Down now one and two. Basketball ended up in the middle of the plate. Contras started to attack then changed his mind. There’s a strike either way. Count moves to one two. Here at first, two down. A ball and two strikes. Cease with a pause at the bell. Now the pitch and a little bit up at 98. Two balls and two strikes. CE now 23 pitches as he works here in the first inning. An elevated pitch count certainly, but trying to limit the opportunity for the Cards. Two and two is outside. That slider kind of slid away from the right-handed batter. And now on three and two, Herrera will be off from first base. of the 24 pitches he’s thrown. Of course, 10 came to Herrera who would single to left field. Contras taking his time getting back in. Now he is in the box. Cease come set. Three and two. Herrera runs the pitch and Contras takes low ball four. So a walk and a strikeout here in the top of the first inning so far for Dylan Sees. Told you the only pitcher in the National League top five in both of those categories. that those numbers kind of put in perspective how unique Blake Snell’s season was. I mean, it it almost two polar opposite result wise that you could get. Blake uh came closer, ended up leading the league in both. He led the league in both. Hadn’t happened in forever. I know we had a great note about it at the time. the catcher for me and going to go out and chat as the left hand hitting Nolan Gorman who was not originally in the starting lineup today gets ready to bat. He’s sort of the beneficiary if you will of Brendan Donovan getting scratched. It was supposed to be a day off for Gorman but he’s in there now. Two for seven in the series. Had an RBI single and a run scored in their four-run fourth inning yesterday. [Applause] [Applause] Quick chat between the pitcher and the catcher and ready to go. It is a curve ball for a strike. Nothing and one. Prior to Snell in 2023, the last guy to win the Sai Young while leading Major League Baseball in walks early win the Hall of Famer with the 1959 White Sock. 0 and one. Gorman takes upstairs one ball, one strike. And those two statist statistics just are like oil and water. I mean, and that’s why you can see how much Dylan has struggled despite this stuff. If you can’t command it at this level, you’re going to get yourself into trouble. And that’s where he’s been most of the year. Hard hit grounder right to first base. So Hearn handles it. He’ll bring it himself. And that’s the end of the inning. So CE does work around the traffic. No runs a hit. Two guys left on base and no score with the Padres’s coming up against Andre Pal. So, without further ado, snap on your time goggles and prepare to zoom a thousand years into the future. The Dbacks are still the Dbacks, though now they’re represented by a robotic technos snake. And the Cubs have embraced their future amongst the stars, now being represented by Ursa Major. Minneapolis was the first to establish relations with our extraterrestrial friends. That’s why I choose the friendly pros at Petco as my home team for my pets. Food, vet care, grooming, and more. Petco, the pets go. Bottom of the first inning, no score. Fernando Tatis Jr. will lead off against right-hander Andre Palante. 6 and seven with a 462 RA. First pitch on the way and Tatis takes a little bit low and outside. Ball one. Fourth major league season for the 26-year-old from San Clemente. and the first time that Palante has worked exclusively as a starter. One career start against the Padres’s that came last August in St. Louis. 10 pitch runs inside, two balls and no strikes. And perhaps fitting that we’re seeing Palante the day before the Padres’s go to Arizona because he looks like Josh Pmentor out there. Yes, he does. Iron Mike straight over the top. Going to get a good look at it. Here’s the two and 0. Tatis looks and a fast ball strike at the knees right on the inside edge. And the count two and one to Fernando looking for his first hit of the weekend. Luis Arise on deck. Many hits this weekend and Manny Machado to follow. Two and one to Tatis. Alante steps back, kicks and delivers and he misses low. Three and one. If you’re thinking to yourself, by the way, hey, wasn’t McGrevy yesterday’s starter for the Cardinals also from San Clemente? Well, yes indeed he was. And in fact, they’re actually high school teammates a couple of years at San Clemente High School. Pretty neat. Now pitching back to back in the big leagues. 3-1 pitch. Fernando in the air up the right field side. That’ll fade foul into the seats out of play. And the count is three and two. Volante coming off one of, if not his best start of the year. Seven shutout innings against the Marlins on Monday night. Allowed one hit, one walk, four strikeouts, only 81 pitches. And that was their only win of that series. 3-2 Fernando takes inside ball four lead off walk and is not something he does very often and the Padres’s in business right out of the shoe gear in the bottom of the first inning. It is something however we’ve been seeing Fernando Tatis Jr. do a lot of finding a way on the base path one way or another lead off walk here to begin the first for Tatis has now walked at least once seven out of his last eight games. So here’s Arise who’s got a career best 15game hitting streak. Fernando at first, nobody out and a pitch low away. Ball one. Arise hitting 417 during the 15game hitting streak as the batting average overall up to 299. Trying to get back where he belongs. Well over 300. Will Smith is the leading hitter in the National League. The Dodger catcher I believe at 325 coming into play today. One and0 throw to first. Fernando had a big lead. It’s close and he’s back ahead of the tag from Berles. Tati’s 22 out of 26 stealing bases this year. And he was stretched well away from first base and he was leaning. Cardinals held it up to see if they were going to challenge that call at first base. They will not. He was back in just barely though. One and0 to arise. Palante comes. Fernando takes off. The pitch is smacked the other way and fouled. Might have been a pitch out. And guys just reaching all the way to kind of spoil it. Foul it off. And the count one and one. I I think even if they had a pitch out, the jump from Totty was so good. Palante doesn’t pick up his foot very much, but he kind of has a kind of giveaway where he moves part of his body before he starts his wind up. Totty picked up on it. got a great jump. One and one to arise. He’s running again. Luis swings and misses. The throw to second base. The tag. He’s out. Great throw from Po. And a good quick tag at second base. [Applause] Mason Win tagging him out. And just like that, one out, nobody on. Little cutter. Luis was trying to hit it. Let it get deep. Hit it the other way. Great throw from Po to nab Fernando Tatis Jr. One and two to Arise. Volante steps back, delivers, and Luis muscles it in the air. Shallow left center. Scott charging. Has to play it on a hop. How about another for Luis Arise? 16 consecutive games with at least one hit. And the Padres’s with a man aboard, one out, and Manny Machado coming up. It’s kind of another cutter. This is what Luis was trying to do on the previous pitch. This time able to get enough of the baseball. Drops it in front of Scott for not. Now’s the Padres’s first hit of the game brought to you by Frozen Ropes travel ball. Free triyouts are underway for ages 7 to 14 with Coach Kurt and his Frozen Ropes team. First pitch to Manny. He bunts and pops it foul into the seats behind home plate. Check him out at San Diego.com. That’s San Diego frozenropppes.com. A rise at first, one out, no score. Bottom of the first inning. 0 and one to Machado. The pitch from Palante is fouled back. And now 0 and2 to Manny who like Arise has a double-digit hitting streak going right now. 10 straight and during that time hitting 476. Aado batting 301 on the year, 20 homers and 72 RBI’s. 20 for 42 in that stretch. As hot as it gets. Go to pitch swings and misses. That’s strength three and a second out of the inning here in the bottom of the first. Jackson Merrill coming up. Padre cleanup hitter brought to you by Asgard Energy. Get a free solar estimate and clean up your energy bill at asgardenergy.com. veteran at locally owned Asgard Energy, your trusted name in solar for Southern California. No score. Bottom of the first for Merrill with rise at first base. Two outs. Jackson hit a home run to center field in the third inning last night. Swings and misses at a first pitch curveball here. Nothing in one from Palante. It was a fourth round pick by the Cardinals in 2019 out of Irvine. The main thing to know about Palante is that he is a massive ground ball pitcher, but we’ve yet to see a ground ball. Check swing on a pitch up. They appeal and he went. And now Maryland in 02 hole. Volante is the second highest ground ball rate of any qualified starter in the major leagues this year. We’ve seen a walk, a bloop single, and a strikeout to begin the day. Merryill behind 0 and two. Palante delivers and in the dirt. Good block by Poso. Arise will scamper back to first base. And now one and two on Jackson who’s hitting 266 on the year. Last night hit his eighth home run. Has 44 RBI’s about a third of which have come literally in the last two weeks. Andre is trying to strike first again here against the Cardinals. One and two from Palante. pitch and Merryill swings, just gets a piece and fouls it off his foot as the ball kind of rolls up the first baseline. It remains a ball in two strikes. Slider there to Jackson. Fouled that ball off his foot. Taking his time here to feel right again before getting in the box. By the way, just talking about the walks [Applause] for Fernando, the next walk he gets will be a new career high. Yeah, this there’s there’s definitely a noticeable change in in how he’s putting together ABS. One and two again to Merrell back in after the foul ball off his foot for the first and rise back without a tag from Eurles. [Applause] Mention Palante working as a full-time starter for the first time this year. He is four and a third innings away from a new careerhigh in innings pitch. One and two to Merrell. Here it comes and Jackson takes outside. Two balls, two strikes. A rise there kind of drew the attention of the catcher. Joel Poso took a huge secondary lead. I think Poso might have thought that Arise might have been going. Yeah, he definitely took the step out like he was getting ready to throw to second base. Two and two to Merrill. Here’s the pitch from Palante. check swing on a curve in the dirt. They appealed this time. Third base umpire Manny Gonzalez says he did not offer and the count is full. Three and two. Most certainly now Luis Arise will be on the move as Jackson did a nice job laying off that slider. [Applause] Bozo knows it. Palante knows it. About 45,000 people the building know it. Berles in the first base will back up behind him. And so a rise will get a pretty good head start over there. Three and two to Merryill with two outs, no score. The pitch is grounded to the right side. So JC, the second baseman from Carlsbad High School has it and he throws him out to end the inning. No runs a hit, one man left on base. After an inning at Penfield Park, no score against the Cardinals. [Music] Here we are. Arlington, Texas. This is the Graham Slam Burger. So, two patties, brisket, caramelized onion, American cheese, ranch ioli, or ranch mayo, if you will. Oh, yeah. We’re in Texas. Yeah. It’s something that you definitely want to take a picture of and just put on the gram. I I took a bite of it, but it still looks dope. It’s a burger that looks great, but also delicious. [Music] Top of the second, the Tresin will score. The Padres’s nothing and the Cardinals nothing. Right fielder Jordan Walker will lead off for St. Louis against Dylan Cease. Dylan a scoreless first inning though he had to really work for it. 28 pitches. Walker swings and misses. Had a first pitch fast ball that was away and the count nothing and one. Walker back in the starting lineup this afternoon after Lars Newbar got the nod in right field last night. Came off the IIL 01 pinch knocked foul behind home plate and cease ahead. 0 and2 on Walker. Hoso on deck and then Saji to follow. 67 and eight for the Cardinals here in the top of the second inning against Cease. Dylan struck out Mason Win to begin the first inning. Then a 10 pitch battle with Ivon Herrera that led to a single. It was also a two-out walk to Contreras, but eventually Gorman grounded out to end the inning. Nonetheless, pitch count elevated early. Here’s the 0 and2. Walker fouls it back. That’s something to keep in mind when you remember that Randy Vasquez did not record an out in the fifth inning last night. I think it’s also important to mention that, you know, despite having the type of weapons that the Padres’s have in that bullpen, they don’t want to be going to the bullpen in the fifth consistently. Pitch high one and two. Mike Schulz said as much yesterday and yesterday’s game or last night’s game was a reminder of that. It was also a reminder that even if your name is not, you know, Miller, Suarez, Adam, you’re going to have to get some outs to win games. pitch low and away and it’s gone two and two on Walker without question. I mean, and that’s why, you know, in some ways it’s unfair. You know, we we focus on those five, but the entire bullpen is important for that reason that you just mentioned. [Applause] Two and two to Jordan Walker. The pitch from C. Swung on and missed. Strike three. Good slider, maybe the best one he’s thrown today. Second strike out of the afternoon and one down in the top of the second inning. Good slider able to finish him. That at bat doesn’t extend too long before the good slider comes out of the hand of Dylan CE for the punching. So here’s the big catcher Joel Po. He’s already thrown Fernando out trying to steal second base. Now he steps up to bat. They have Pedro Pah back there last night. Hit the big three-run homer in the fourth inning. Pitch on the way and Po takes a first pitch slider for a strike near the outside. Corner nothing at one. Mansion sees just changing everything up as this year has gone along trying to get right. A one pitch swung on and miss strike two. The mustache is a little bit different this week for Dylan CE. First of all, he shaved today. Everything but the mustache. So that makes the the stash even more prominent. And I would say think Daniel Lewis in there will be blood for the current version of the Dylan C stash. Pretty accurate. 02 Poso takes way away and now one ball, two strikes. Talking about the rotation and trying to work deeper into games, Padres’s actually optioned Randy Vasquez to Triple A for the first time this year before the game today. One two too in the dirt and that was to make room for the veteran lefty Nester Cortez. Obviously, lefty JP Sears has also been added. He came with Mason Miller in the trade with the Athletics and so uh probably find out I would guess after the game today the order in which we’ll see those guys but it’s going to be soon. Two two swinging a miss got him to chase a slider running away. Backto back strikeouts for CE to begin the inning. Two outs nobody on and the top of the second brought to you by Sinly Food. Ignite your taste buds with the precious flavors at Sinly Food. Discover authentic ingredients at 4665 Elcohone Boulevard. the Cooks Asian Resource. Ozo got all spin in that at bat. Slider, sweeper, sweeper, slider, slider before it ended. Now the 23-year-old out of Carl’sbad High School, Thomas Sajci, starting at second base for the Red Birds and he takes a fast ball a little bit up 1 and0. First opportunity to play at Petco in a big league game for Sid JC. A fifth round pick by the Rangers back in 2020. One and0. Cease will turn and deliver and Saji late on a fast ball. Tipped it into Fine Smith. That is even one and one. Guy the Cardinals are really high on can play the infield. Rocking the no BGs at the plate. One and one from Cece and Sajci takes outside. Two balls at a strike. 42 games at AAA Memphis for him this year. hit 317 there with five homers. 24 runs batted in 33 major league games this year. 237 average, one homer. Two outs, nobody on scoreless game. Second inning, two and one the pitch and SJC takes high. Three balls and a strike. Rangers traded him to the Cardinals at the 2023 deadline in the deal that sent Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton to Texas. made his major league debut last September for the Redbirds. Played in 18 games. Three and one. Cease delivers and JC fouls it off. Count full. Three and two. [Applause] I don’t know if it’s the no batting gloves, but gives me Matt Carpenter right-handed vibes here. The setup in the uh the box looks very much like a right-handed Matt Carpenter. and seeing him in that uniform certainly adds. I think it it all plays into how it’s kind of portraying in my mind. So, you’re saying he’s a very Cardinals kind of guy. Three and two. So, JC fouls it back. We do it again. Healthy rip there at the 3-2 heater. Fouls it straight back. Nice to be able to get a start in the hometown. His only appearance in the four-game series against the Padres’s last weekend was a pinch hit in the finale. They had a couple of innings in shortstop. Swings and misses here. That’s a slider. That’s strike three. And that is three straight strikeouts in the second inning for Dylan CE after one and a half at Petco Park. No score against the Cardinals. And now here’s what’s happening at Valley View Casino and Hotel. The score was Xander Bogard’s leading off against Andre Palante. And the first pitch to Xander is in the dirt. One ball and no strikes. Ryan O’Harn on deck. Raone Lauriano to follow. Five, six, and seven here in the second inning. A guy that’s been around a couple years and then two of the new guys. One pitch and Bogarts lifts up the hands but takes a fast ball for a strike. Bottom of the zone on the inside corner and the count is now one and one. Stat of the day brought to you by Culligan Water of San Diego. Providing advanced water treatment solutions, including softeners, filters, and bottled water. ensuring cleaner, safer, and great tasting water for homes and businesses since 1936. Follow 2 and one. In the last 20 games, the Padres’s are 14 and6 here at Petco Park. That is your stat of the day. And great to see that kind of winning percentage here at home. Two and one. The pitch to Bogarts is down and in. Three balls in a strike. Also, if you include the 2020 wild card series with the Padres’s took two out of three from these guys. Odds have now won 15 out of their last 22 at home against the Cardinals. Three and one to Bogarts leading off and Xanders swings, pops it up off the end of the bat to the right side of the infield. Berles fighting the sun in a big way and it’s going to drop behind him. The second baseman SJC came running over. He had a sense that Berles just didn’t see it, but he couldn’t get to the spot in time. And how about another good fortune base hit for Xander Bogarts. I’m of the belief he’s deserving of all of this good fortune. He had a a long period, long stretch of baseball where he was hitting the ball hard and it was right at people. The last four days has been great for Xander Bogarts. This one lost in the sun by Burles. Go down as a sweet single. Little sun pop. So now Ryan O’Harn with a man aboard, nobody out. And he rips one foul into the netting by the Cardinal dugout. Strike one. O’Harn in his career against Palante, one out of three with a home run. And the only reason I mentioned that, he’s the only guy on the Padre roster who has ever homered against Palante. Still, by the way, we have yet to see a ground ball with Palante on the mount. 0 and one and O’Harn takes at the top of the zone. That’s a called strike and he’s behind 0 and2. O’Harn 0 for four here at the start of his Padre career. He was the DH last night. Came off the bench on Friday and starting at first base today. 0 and2 Hearn takes down and in. And like Gavin Sheets, he can do a lot of the same kinds of things. He can play first, he can play left, he can DH, he can pinch it. With Baltimore this year, he did a little bit of everything, including 40 starts at first base, more than anything else. Xander at first, nobody out. They throw it to check on him. He goes back in standing up. Ogart 16 out of 17 stealing bases so far this year. One and two to the left hand hitting O’Harn. Palante set on one and two. Here’s the pitch and O’Harn takes in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. Saw the curve ball of the hand there. Ryan O’Harn moves the count to 2-2. Hearn the starting designated hitter for the American League All-Star team this year in Atlanta. The only oral to go to the Midsummer Classic. Two and two from Palante. Here’s the pitch and O’Harn grounds it to second base. charged by Saji goes to second and he throws it into left field. Everybody’s safe. Little bit of a double clutch, double pump situation. You could almost see that he wasn’t quite sure if second base was the right choice, but he tried to force it in there. The throw got away from win. It’ll be an error on Saji and the Padres’s now two on and nobody out for Oriana. I think the problem was he never committed to it. You could just tell in his body language he was unsure as Bogey passed crossed his path as he turned he just kind of felt like he didn’t know if he wanted to throw it. That throw ends up in left field. First and second now for Raone Lauriano. [Applause] Golden opportunity for the Padres’s in a scoreless game. And first pitch in the dirt. Check swing and I think they said he went nothing and one on Raone Lauraniano. Ball just hit a little too slow. So Jaci to go to second there gets the error because of it. O’Harn at first. Bogart’s at second. No balls. They had a strike to Lauriano. And he takes high at 95 mph. One and one. Remember in the fifth inning on Friday night the Cardinal defense got real loose on the infield. Both Gorman and Contreras committing an error on the same play and that pretty much unschooled for them. Padres’s won that game four to one. All four runs came in that inning in very large part because of the errors. Here’s a foul ball off the catcher Po and he is going to require a moment. One and two now on Lauraniano. [Applause] So the Padres’s took full advantage of the sloppy infield defense on Friday night. We’ll see what they can do here in the second inning today. Orianado making his third straight start in left field for the Padres’s. 0 for four in his debut on Friday. One for four with the RBI triple in the second inning last night. Ball and two strikes. Palante a look at Xander. Now the pitch and Lauriano takes loan outside. Two balls, two strikes. Andre is looking to crack the seal here from game three of this ball of this series. Volante a long look into Poso. Now he’s set. Two and two to Lauriano. Here’s the pitch and it’s in the dirt outside. Ball three. Andre’s for the most part have been good laying off that slider. Count moves to 3-2. [Applause] Oriano came with O’Harn from Baltimore. last year’s split time between Cleveland and Atlanta. Played here as a visitor in the wild card series against the Braves. Three and two runners lead. They do not run and Lauriano chops it to shortstop. Win has it flipped to second one. So JC fires to first in time and that’s a double play. So just like that, two outs. Bogarts at third base and left up to the number eight hitter Jake Cronin. Oh, when he needed that ground ball, he finally got it. And it comes in the form of a 643 double play and certainly pours cold water on what the Padres’s had cooking. Still an opportunity here with two outs. Only the seventh ground ball double play he’s gotten all year, which is pretty wild when you consider he gets more ground balls than almost anybody in baseball. So Xander at third, two outs, and the first pitch to Croninorth is under the hands at 96. One ball to no strikes. I always like to compare ground ball rates to Logan Webb because that’s the guy I feel like we can all sort of picture in the NL West. One and0 is the count and Croninworth will take inside. Two balls and no strikes. Logan Webb gets ground balls this year at least at about 51% of the time. Again, we’ve seen him pitch against the Padres’s. You know what that looks like? This guy Volante 62%. So noticeably higher than Logan Web. Two and0 to Croninworth and Jake takes on the inside part of the play. That was a slider for a strike. And now two and one. Yeah, you’re you’re competing with Web or Soriano for the Angels or Sanchez for the Phillies. Like you’re in the top tier of of ground ball getters. Fomber. Fomber. Another one. Two and one. Corona where it swings. as it misses out in front of a curveball and out two and two. Scoreless game. Bottom of the second inning. Padres’s have Boggarts at third base, two outs. And Cronorth has gone two and two against Palante, who like C says had to work here early on today. Pitch coming and Cronorth flinches, takes down an in. That’ll fill the count. Three balls, two strikes. That’s the pitch to me that he seems to have the best command on right now. He’s throwing that slider just off the plate. That’s exactly where he wants to put it. Boneworth able to lay off to move to counter to 3-2. And now Palante will step off just kind of reset a little bit. Jake has been drawing walks with some regularity. Has won in each of the first two games of this series. as he has reached safely eight consecutive games. Three and two from Palante about to deliver his 42nd pitch of the day already. Three and two here it is. Cronorth swings, muscles it air out towards second base. Mason Win comes in a few steps and he makes the catch to end the inning. No runs, a hit and error and Bogart’s left at third base. We’ve played two innings at Petco Park. No scoring. Heat up here. Heat up here. That’s Alertis Goriel Dawn. That’s a nice touch. Companion power. Apparel of wearing earrings when you’ve got netting on the field. That young fan not a new ball fan. What a present for mom. Oh my goodness. Look at this guy. Oso. Yeah. Jay Uso. Yeah. Yeah. Just shot putting it off when there’s nobody on base. There’s a little debate for Domo and Kim watching their bucks in the replay together. That’s beautiful, isn’t it? I second leads off for the Cardinals here in the top of the third inning. Scoreless game as Dylan Cece goes back to work and a first pitch fast right on the outside corner at 97 mph. Strike one. Dylan with four strikeouts in two innings. He got Walker, Poso, and Sajci. One, two, three. In the second, one curve drops in. That’s a strike. And quickly ahead of Scott, no balls, two strikes, who’s not brought to you by the grilling store at Hillrest Ace Hardware, the official grilling store of the Padres’s Radio Network. 02 pitch and Scott swings, pops it up right side of the infield. Croninworth coming in from second base. He’s fighting the sun and on the grass cutout able to make the catch. One away. For all your grilling needs, visit them on University Avenue or the grilling store sd.com. Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff is hot. Since coming off the IIL after missing almost 2 years with shoulder surgery, he has gone 2-0 in four starts with a 2011 erra. Pretty good. Well, it’s got to feel good, too, after all that time. Missed with injury. One out, nobody on top of the order. Mason win 0 for one with a strike out and he takes a first pitch curve ball right at the top of the zone. Called a ball one and0. Yeah, when you missed two years, man, like the amount of doubt that can creep in as you’re rehabbing trying to get back to that level that you’ve been at. Swinging a miss one and one can be debilitating at times and uh so to get back and be throwing the ball this well has got to be a pretty good feeling for for W. Yeah, doing it for a first place team. Ball in a strike to Mason Win. Cease will wind and fire and he misses in on the hands. Two balls into strike. All right, so Woodruff is hot. Michael Bush of the Cubs is not. Couple of weeks ago, Dave had him on the hot list, but now he’s in a 6 for 38 slump. There’s the two in one. Win takes a fast ball down the middle. Strike two. Now, normally we talk about guys Dave puts on the not list getting hot, but this is the opposite of that. He has cursed Michael Bush of the Cubs. Two and two the pitch and win just gets a piece knocks it foul behind home plate and the count remains two balls, two strikes. I so wanted to pull up the Cubs box score. See that Michael Bush had a big day but just a kind of one for three with a run scored. He’s starting to pull himself out of it. Yeah, he is. It’s only a matter of time now. Two and two to win. One out, nobody on. And he fouls it away right side. Yeah, he has yet to hear that he was put on the the who’s not who’s not list. Once word reaches Wrigley lookout. Have a full out of town scoreboard for you in a little bit. But Marlins just swept the Yankees for the first time ever. Three sellouts in Miami. How about that? Two and two to Mason win and a swing and a miss. Blew him away with a 98 mph fast. Wind strikes out for the second time today. That’s five for Cease. Two out. Top of the third inning and we’ll pause 10 seconds for station identification on the Padres’s Radio Network. KWFN and KWFN HD1 San Diego. What’s up? This is Jeremiah Estrada. You’re listening to Padres’s baseball on the Padres’s Radio Network and Odyssey Sports Station. Two outs, nobody on. Scoreless game third inning and a first pitch curve ball for a strike to Ivon Herrera. Nothing in one. Dylan seized through 28 pitches in the top of the first inning. 10 of them came to Herrera. Since then he has looked very sharp. See if it continues. 01 pitch is another curve ball for a strike. 0 and two. He’s punched four out of the last five. has a chance to punch five out of the last six with this next pitch. Here it is. And Herrera very late swing and a miss. Strike three. He says it’s catchers interference. Homeplayed umpire Brock Paloo said it’s a foul tip. And now we wait and see if the Cardinals want to challenge whether or not his bat made contact with Freddy Fine’s mint. He’s already Oh, they’re going to check. They’re going to check it. So, it’s either a strikeout to end the inning or catchers interference. They’re calling the field with no catcher interference. St. Louis is challenging that. So, uh this should be a fairly quick and straightforward review. This was such a bad swing that it’s a chance that he did catch it. This manager’s challenge is presented by Silverstrand Technology powering smart plays and smarter systems. Silverstrand Technology, your experts in commercial security. Visit silverstrand.com. [Applause] Yeah, he absolutely clips the the the glove of Fine. He was so fooled on that pitch that it produced that kind of swing that can actually catch the catcher’s glove. [Applause] After review, there was catchers interference batter first base. St. Louis retains a challenge. There you go. So Herrera at first two down and uh in a way right he’s rewarded for that bad of a swing. It is I mean because there’s it’s twofold right because catchers are taught to try to get as many strikes as you can. They’re a little bit closer which puts them in in jeopardy of you know giving up one of those errors to that type of swing. So now Burles with a man aboard two outs and he takes an ugly swing and a miss. strike one. It appears to me that CE is leaning on his curve ball not only more often than usual right now, but earlier than usual right now. I think Dylan generally speaking kind of waits to break that pitch out as a start kind of progresses, but we’ve seen a lot of curves early on. He’s obviously got great feel for it. 0 and one the pitch and Berles with another ugly swing and a miss. That time a slider. It’s 0 and2 [Applause] right now. 17 sliders, eight knuckle curve balls through this start so far. 0 and two and Burles swings and misses. It a slider strike three. Six strikeouts in the first three innings for Dylan Cece. No runs, no hits. The error and Herrera left on base. Middle of the third, no score. Oh, this is the most famous jersey in baseball, right? The Yankee pinstripes, the interlocking NY uh in the Midnight Navy. I was a Yankee fan growing up my whole life, die hard, and became a free agent after 7 years with the Rockies. And I wanted to be a Yankee so bad. Putting this jersey on for a head shot for the first time, it felt different than any other shirt I’d ever put on in my career. [Music] What is it that that kind of got you hooked as a foodie, so to speak? My dad was really into food when I was a kid. He traveled for work and he would go to places all over Europe and stuff. He was in sales and feel like he would come home and and try and cook the things he ate overseas. And so, as a kid, I was exposed to a lot of like stuff that kids aren’t usually exposed to. And so, I credit my dad for that. Heat. Heat. [Applause] online at melissaatui.com. Dixie Line Lumber and Home Centers helping San Dieans fix it, build it, and enjoy it for over a hundred years. Freddy Fine will lead off for the Padres’s. The trust and will score. The Padres’s nothing and the Cardinals nothing. Tatis Sandrise to follow as Fine gets his second consecutive start behind the dish. Worked with Vasquez in company in last night’s game and with Dylan Cece this afternoon. Andre Palante back to work for the Red Birds. First pitch and for me buns towards third base. It’s a good one and it’ll be picked up by Palante. He’s got no play. A blunt single for Freddy Fine. And the Padres’s have the leadoff guy on base here in the bottom of the third inning. What a wellexecuted bunt by Freddy Fine. Use the element of surprise. He did not run out of the box. He executed putting it down first. And the placement is what allows this to be a hit. Palani has to kind of run backwards towards the baseball and had no play as Fine gets the infield single on the bunt above that out of your number nine hitter and now Fernando with a man aboard first pitch Tatis Squares ends up taking a strike right on the outside corner nothing and one Fernando drew another walk leading off in the bottom of the first inning but was thrown out trying to steal second base with a rise up [Applause] for game leading at first base, one out of three. He’s not going anywhere. And the 01 to Fernando kind of inside outed in the air the other way, but that’ll push foul into the seats. And now 0 and2 on Tatis. [Applause] [Music] Fernando 0 for eight in the series, but mentioned all the walks. Had a great time in St. Louis against these guys. went seven for 17 with a homer and three doubles. 0 and two the pitch. Tatis takes in the dirt outside. [Applause] Slider away there after the sinker in. He fouls off. Certainly has the right side to play with on the ground. Big gaping hole between first and second. So JC pinched way up the middle. One and two from Palante. Here’s the pitch and Tatis takes just a little bit low. Two balls, two strikes. Definitely was down. Palante wanted it but misses below the zone. Count moves to two. Brock Belaloo calling balls and strikes tonight. A minor league fill in for Cory Blazer. And a good eye there. Two and two to Tatis for mean at first. Nobody out. Scoreless game. third inning and Fernando takes into dirt ball three. Great unforgettable memories at a 2025 Padre game with a group of friends or family. [Applause] Got to figure the sweets are filled here today because every other seat is unbelievable this place. Three and two to Tatis Volante pauses for me not running and the pitch is low. Ball four. So another walk for Fernando. He is now walked more times in 2025 than any season in his major league career. And it’s only August 3rd. Andre for the second straight inning. First and second, nobody out. That’s just an excellent at bat there. Fell behind early but able to lay off some tough pitches, including that last slider. He takes the walk. That’ll bring the Padres’s hottest hitter and Luis Arise to the plate. Already extended the hitting streak to 16 games. First pitch from Palante is a fast ball strike. Nothing in one. 63 walks for Fernando now. More than he had in 2021, which was his previous high. He’s at first. Bermine at second. Nobody out. 0 and one to arise. Palante delivers. San Luis fouls it back into the screen strength two. Luis wants that slider back. One of the rare bad sliders Palante has thrown in this game. Left it in the middle of the plate and he’s fouls it straight back. Last inning the Padres’s had first and second, nobody out thanks to the sun pop and the error by Saji. So the Cardinals were giving it to him, but Palante pitched himself out of trouble thanks in large part to a double play ball. See how it goes this time around. 0 and2 to arise. Volante delivers and Luis chops it back to the mound. Volante has it. He lost the throw to third base and just barely in time to get Fine. It was not a good throw. Gorman had to kind of go up and get it and then awkwardly feel for the base with his foot as he came down but able to force out for mean one away. Monte had no confidence as he threw that ball and just kind of left it in the air. Fortunately, Owen Gorman was able to go up and then get to the back just ahead of her mean slide. Certainly had a chance at two there and elected to get the lead runner at third. Yeah, I’d like to talk about that. Here comes the lumber brought to you by Dixie Line Lumber and Home Centers. Fix it, build it, enjoy it. First pitch to Machado, swung on and missed. I mean, look, obviously he wasn’t particularly comfortable making a throw, so maybe that’s part of the calculus, but it would have appeared to me a fairly straightforward double play if he throws to second there. Not if he’s going to throw it at that speed. What it comes down to one Machado swings and misses strike two. I think you hit the nail on the head. He understood he wasn’t comfortable making that throw and the first guy he looked at made eye contact seemed to be Nolan Gorman so he just kind of led him to the bag I guess I think he looked at second and win was kind of moving towards the base and he didn’t want any part of that oh and two to Machado Manny checks on a ball in the dirt they take off the throw goes to third Fernando is safe so a great bit of aggressive base running there a not so wild wild pitch and Tatis now at third. Arise also takes second behind the play and that changes the complexion of this inning in a major way. That’s just incredible. Incredible instincts. Toddy on his second there. That ball trickled away and he was on it and he needed to be cuz it didn’t trickle away far. The throw was on point, but the feet first slide gets Totty in just ahead of the tag. So now the Cardinals got to bring the infield in against Machado, which is kind of a hazardous thing to have to do. One and two to Manny. Second and third, one out, scoreless game. And Machado rips it. Foul into the net behind home plate. We do it again. One ball, two strikes. That’s just made the job that much easier for Manny. Although he’s doing it from a one-two count, this is certainly something Manny does well. Arise huge lead at second base with the infield in. Fernando close by at third. One and two. Here’s the pitch and Machado lines it. Foul the other way into the terrace up the right field line. Still the ball and two strikes to Manny who struck out his first time. [Applause] Palante set to deliver. Runners lead now the one and two and Machado swings and misses. Strike three. Good slider. Just the second strike out of the day for Palante. He’s gotten Machado both times. And that’ll be left up to Jackson Merrill. We had two guys in scoring position and two outs in the bottom of the third inning. There have been very few sliders that Bonte has not executed. That one included. Great pitch there to Manny to get him to chase. He gets the second out of the inning. Jackson grounded out his first time. The infield now backs up with two down. Pitch on the way is up and in. Look out. Ball one to Merrill. Jackson four for nine in this series. He has hit in 11 out of his last 12 games. A hit here would give the Padres’s the first run or runs of the afternoon. They’ve certainly had their opportunities. Now trying to cash one in. Padres’s 0 for four with runners in scoring position to begin the day. Pitch to Maryland in the dirt. Checks his swing. And now two balls and no strikes. Wonder how much he’s going to see to hit here with first base open. Although Xander Bogarts is walking around with a horseshoe in his pocket these days. I’m not sure Palante wants to test his faith there. [Applause] Rise at second, Tatis at third. Two down, two and0 to Merrill. Volante deals and a swing and a miss. Another good slider. Slider has been on point from Volante. He’s thrown the one slider that I can remember that he left up. Arise fouled it back. Everything else has been in that area, which is down and in the lefties are just off the plate in that similar spot. Two and one the pitch. Merryill takes inside ball three. [Applause] Classify as effectively wild in this game so far. Like cease in his last start though. It feels like he’s playing with fire. Waiting to see if he’ll get burned. Three and one to Jackson Merrill. Volante delivers and Merrill grounds it. Bow right side. The count is now full. Three and two. I know he has natural cut to that fast ball, but certainly seems like it’s getting in, especially on the lefties. Fernando kind of running a little bit over at third base. That forced Palante to step off. I think he genuinely spooked Palante. Palante hadn’t been paying attention. He came sit. You saw Totty coming down the line, stepped off. Three and two to Merrill. Tatis dancing. The pitch is in the dirt ball four. Third walk of the day issued by Andre Palante, two to Tatis, one to Merrill. And now the base is loaded. Two outs for Xander Bogart. It certainly appeared that Totty coming down that line was kind of bothering Palante there and now his infielders are come in and and check on him. Nolan Gorman was way off. So Todd had the luxury of being able to get about halfway down that line. Players only mount visit with the bases loaded, two outs, scoreless game bottom of the third inning. Mentioned Bogart’s walking around with a horseshoe in his pocket last night. an infield hit and a blue pit had an infield hit his last time up on Friday and then in his first at bat here this afternoon hit a pop up to the right side of the infield and Berles over there he was fighting the sun and fighting the sun but the sun won the battle and the ball bounced in behind him. So Bogarts now with the sacks full two outs, eight career grand slams and a warning being issued to Palante for coming set too quickly by the home plate umpire Barack Beloo. This thing is starting to speed up on Palante. That’s typically what you see from pitchers when they get that warning. Game is moving a little quick for them. Base is loaded, two outs. Dangerous man at the plate. First pitch coming and Xander takes a fast ball. near the inside corner for a strike. Nothing at one. Merryill at first, Arise at second, Tatis at third. And the left fielder Herrera playing almost into the gap in left center. [Applause] 0 and one to Bogarts. Palante delivers. Ander takes low. One and one. [Applause] Volante getting ready to throw his 65th pitch of the day and it’s only the bottom of the third inning. 37 strikes, 27 balls. Remember his last start. Seven shutout innings, one hit, 81 pitches. Ball on a strike to Xander Palante deals and Bogarts fouls it back. One and two. And we kind of noticed early on he wasn’t getting ground balls like usual. Well, that’s probably a sign that his stuff is not doing what he wants it to do or what it normally does. Like I said, he’s been effectively wild. He’s not pounding the zone, but seemly seemingly making pitches when he needs to. Couple good sinkers to get ahead of Xander Bogarts here. One, two, and when he’s gotten to this point, that slider has come out has been very effective against this Padre team. Bases loaded, two outs. He’s ahead of Bogart’s one and two. No score. Bottom of the third inning. Volante set and ready. Now the pitch on the way. Xander takes in the dirt again. And two balls, two strikes. Poso, the catcher, really earning his money here early this afternoon. I think Todd’s got to be careful. He’s He’s getting the same lead, but Norman, Nolan Gorman, has kind of crept a little bit towards the line and is starting to kind of come in on those balls in the dirt. Scott’s got to be leerary as he comes down that third baseline. Jim Leaper looking out for him a little bit over there as well. Two and two now to Bogarts. Palante delivers. Ander swings and misses. Strike three. Second strike out of the inning. Third of the day for Palante. And the Padres’s leave him loaded. Head to the fourth inning at Petco Park. No score against the Cardinals. Coming up for the Redbirds against Dylan CE, who um at least early on here has gotten better as the afternoon has progressed. He and Palante though both have thrown a lot of pitches already. First one here is low ball one. Dylan six strikeouts in three innings. He is allowed though only one hit, a single to Herrera in the first inning. It’s also walked to this guy Contraras and rare reach last inning on catchers interference. One and0 Dylan delivers and that’s in the air up the right field line. It’ll push foul into the seats and out of play. One and one now on Contrarus. Three for 11 in his career against Dylan CE with a homer and a double. One and one. Dylan looks in now. He’ll turn and deliver the pitch. And Contrarus takes right down the middle in 97. One ball and two strikes. Contras pretty much a full-time first baseman for these guys these days. Of course, began his career as a catcher dhing this afternoon. One, two, and Contras takes high. Two balls, two strikes. So he had ceased closing in on 70 pitches as he works here in the fourth inning. Palante has thrown 69 through three. Two and two. Contras checks. Takes loan and outside. They appeal. He went. That is strike three and seven strikeouts now for Dylan CE. One away. Be careful what you ask for. Wilson. Contras pointed down to the first baseline indicating he wanted the call to go down that way. And certainly Rag Bolu did just that. And he’s rung up by Ron Copa. And he couldn’t believe it. Kind of waved his hand at the first base umpire as he walked back to the dugout. So CE with seven strikeouts out of the 10 outs that he’s recorded. One away for the left-handing Nolan Gorman. He takes outside ball one. Top of the fourth brought to you by Genesis Home Improvements. San Diego’s trusted painting, roofing, and window company. And we we we pointed it out earlier. This the stuff is there for Dylan. He’s racking up the strikeouts once again here today. Pitches near the outside corner of the knees for a strike. One and one. Seven so far. When he’s able to add the command to this, this is that’s when you get the Sai Young version of himself. One out, nobody on. One-1 pitch is tipped into the catcher’s mitt. Strike two. Mentioned it at the start. It’s just so bizarre to see a guy top five in the league in both strikeouts and walks [Music] cuz it doesn’t happen very often. I mean, we we talked about Blake Snail’s year. That was a an anomaly in terms of a successful season like that. Seeing those two guys though kind of makes some sense. Not 100%. Pitch way up and away, too. And if I’m not mistaken, when when the Padres’s first acquire him, I believe we were calling him the right-handed version of Blake Snail. So far today, he’s already passed Skins and Web. So now, Zack Wheeler, the only guy in the NL with more strikeouts. Two and two. Gorman will take high. Three balls, two strikes. Cease, if my math is right, is now at 160. Wheeler well ahead at 182 which is quite a number for August 3rd by the way. Crazy 182. Three and two to Gorman. Cease delivers and a swing and a miss. Went back to that curve ball. Had him out in front. Three straight strikeouts for Case for the second time today and now eightks with two down in the fourth. Definitely got it going today. Haven’t seen him frustrated with himself as much today. This time it was the knuckle curve ball to finish off Nolan Gorman. And again, it seems like he’s gotten better every inning. Here’s Jordan Walker. He hits the first pitch just foul at third base. And I mean just foul. Rolled right past the outside of the bag. Nothing in one to the Cardinal right fielder who struck out in the second inning. How that ball they just showed a replay did not hit the corner of the bag. I don’t know. It was millimeters. 0 and one. Walker hits it hard. Oh gosh. Got right past CE who got out of the way. Ronorth fields it. Throws to first and that’ll end a one two three inning. Remember he took that ball from Lindor off the back of the head on Monday night. Dylan C says got it going. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Heat up here. Sales and service teams are topnotch. Ryan O’Harn will lead off for the Padres’s. Lauraniano and Croninworth to follow. 67 and eight in a scoreless game against Andre Palante. Palante has been playing with fire. He has yet to be burned. We’ll see if that changes here this minute. Eventually, you got to figure luck runs out. 67 pitches already and the 68th is in the dirt ball one. Padres’s have had first and second, nobody out each of the last two innings, but have failed to score against Palante, who, as you said it perfectly, has been effectively wild to this point. It’s been a this game has been a grinder for both sides so far. One and0 the pitch and O’Harn takes a little bit outside, but called a strike. One and one. Whether it’s because the pitchers have been effectively wild or the hitters are making it tough, both pitchers have extended themselves quite a bit here through the first four. Now Dylan’s pitch counts have gotten lower and lower as the day has gone on. Volantes have gotten higher and higher. This one inside outed on a line to left field and caught by Herrera who came charging in. One out in the bottom of the fourth. Palante 20 pitches in the first, 22 in the second and 27 in the third. CE has gone 28 18 1613. So he’s headed in the right direction. Here’s Ramon Lauraniano grounded into a 643 double play. His only other time off. That’s part of how Volante has escaped runs so far. First pitch swinging is cracked foul on the ground behind third base coach Tim Leaper. And nothing and one on Lauriano. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Palante comes set. He’ll deal and Lauriano swings and misses and a slider running away. No balls and two strikes. [Applause] Palante has been a guy for the Cardinals this year who has just not gotten run support and he looks up at the board right now and he sees a single base hit on the board. O2 bounced about 3 ft in front of the plate and then caught the catcher Poso flush. One and two now from Palante. Just the same old same old for Palante as he looks at the scoreboard. One hit, no runs, but still has the job of keeping the Padres’s off the board. ahead of Lauraniano. One and two. One out, nobody on. Scoreless game, fourth inning. And Lauraniano takes down and in. Two balls, two strikes. Palante perhaps thought that his luck was changing on Monday night against the Marlins. They blew Miami out. I think it was seven to one. He got all seven runs of support. Here’s the 2-2. Lauraniano chops it towards third base. Going to be tough for Dorman coming in. has no play. Infield single, Raone Lauriano Andres with another base runner. Got seven runs of support in his last start against the Marlins. He had gotten one total run in his previous five starts combined. I know that felt like Christmas for him. But right back to the norm here today as Mariano legs out the infield single. That’ll bring Jay Conor to the plate. Jake go for one. He popped out to wind to end the second inning. Oriano big lead at first not going and Cronorth takes a fast ball strike on the outside. Corner nothing at one. Oriano four out of seven stealing bases so far this season. All of that of course coming in a Baltimore uniform. He’s a a really good defensive outfielder, so you might instinctively think that he’s a big base stealer, but not really the case. 01 is launched in the air to deep right center field. Walker’s going back on the track at the wall looking up. Going to go Jake Cinworth. A two-run homer and the Padres’s finally strike against Palante. It’s two to nothing. We’ve been watching this offense. This comes as no surprise. It’s the bottom of the out of the order doing the damage. Lauraniano with the infield single. He hits in the seven spot. Jake Croninworth follows it up with a two-run shot to right center. Tried to get the fast ball in. He did not. Exit stage right for Jake Cronorth. Homer number nine. RBI’s 33 and 34 on the season. Now the number nine hitter for me. He swings it. The first pitch, sends it in the air to left field. Well struck, but playable for Herrera. And he makes the catch for out number two. Top of the order, Fernando. And boy did the Padres’s need that from Jake Proner. Padres still hitless with runners in scoring position. Of course, when you hit a homer, runner does not have to be in scoring position. Two nothing San Diego. Two outs, nobody on for Tatis. He’s walked both times today. And he squares the bunt, pushes it towards third base. It’ll spit foul. I love the willingness of everybody in this lineup. At least willing to think about it. Totty trying to catch Nolan Gorman sleeping as he’s playing back. Fortunately, it rolls foul. Cal moves 01. [Music] [Applause] [Music] 80th pitch of the afternoon about to be delivered by Palante. [Applause] Oh, and one to Fernando. the righty delivers and Tati swings and misses at a slider that was kind of up and away. No balls, two strengths now. Slider was just big enough to be called a slider, but also could be mistaken as a cutter. Pitch here in the dirt. One and two to Tatis Volante. not a guy who walks a lot of batters. And so you got to certainly figure that Fernando probably had something to do with those walks more than maybe Palante did. Just being very careful with a dangerous hitter. Tatis locked in seeing the ball very well. One and two the pitch and Tatis takes inside. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] Volante hasn’t walked more than two guys since the end of May, but three here today and two of them to Tatis. Two and two. Fernando flinches takes low and away ball three. And yeah, he’s seeing it very very Saudi is really the only one or I shouldn’t say the only one, but he’s done a good job of laying off that slider that Palante’s had a lot of success with in today’s ball game. All but one of the bats for Totty. Donte’s been ahead of him before issuing those two walks. Three and two now and Tatis takes at the top of the zone. Strike three call. That was a wellplaced fast ball. First fourth strike out of the day. It’ll end the fourth inning, but not before the Padres strike. Two-run homer. Jake Croninworth and we go to the fifth. Padres’s two Cardinals nothing on the Padres’s radio network. Frozen is calling all baseball players ages 7 to 16 to join our elite travel ball teams. [Music] Top of the fifth inning and for the first time today, Dillian CE takes the mound with a lead. Padres’s up two nothing. And the bottom of the order for St. Louis coming up, Joel Poso, the first guy and he takes in the dirt ball one. Padres’s with a two nothing lead thanks to Jake Cronward’s ninth home run of the year. And enjoy it all the way up to first pitch. Smile spirits making San Diego smile. One out. Nobody on for the number eight hitter Thomas JC. He struck out his first time. Today’s question of the day brought to you by Kaiser Permanente. If you have questions about your health, visit kp.org/ San Diego Kaiser Permanente for all that is you. Sandra writes in today as JC takes high ball one. Good question. I’m sure you know a lot of fans probably wonder about this. Can each player choose their own brand of helmets and bats and gloves and equipment or is it a teamwide thing or a leaguewide thing? And and how does all of that work? one and Otis JC and the pitch is in the dirt outside Paul too. So a hitter can pick the different styles of helmet. You know, you might see the one with the vents in it. You might see the the extra piece that comes over the jaw, but at least to my knowledge, all the helmets are made by the same company. That is a leaguewide deal. Two pitch. So JC swings and miss. What was the other part of the question? gloves, shoes, bats. Now, uh I think everybody is entitled to choose the gloves, batting gloves that they want. A lot of these guys have deals with these companies, so that they have to wear that specific brand. Two on pitch is low, but the strength two and two. But in today’s baseball world, a lot of guys are comfortable not being signed to a company and having the kind of leeway to go whatever way they they want to go in terms of shoes, batting gloves, and equipment. Two and two. So JC fouls it back. Now, when it comes to batting fielding gloves, most guys are very particular about their fielding glove, whether you’re a pitcher or or position player. So, they they tend to stick with one company when it comes to that type of deal. That’s the baby, right? That is bats and gloves are are are held with great honor. Two and two. So, JC takes on the outside corner. Strength three called number nine for Dylan CE. And two out here in the fifth. Jay-Z had a rough one there. Got a call that went against him that certainly seemed to be below the zone, but this fast ball is dotted on the outside corner and he goes down looking. Yeah. I don’t think you want to be in the box when a guy with the kind of stuff that Dylan has gets a call like that cuz it’s up. He’ll climb. Yeah. Now Victor Scott the second. He shows bunt. Takes a curve ball strike. Padres’s are ready for it. O’Harn charging at first. Manny’s on the grass at third. See’s trying for a second straight 1, two, three inning. One pitch and Scott knocks it. Foul behind home plate. 0 and2. Dylan looking for a doubledigit strikeout. Season high is 10. His careerhigh, which is incredible, is 13. Nine so far today. He is 0 and2 on Victor Scott the second. Dylan will turn and fire. The pitch is taken a little bit up and in. One ball, two strikes. Two outs, nobody on. One and two. Here’s the pitch from C. Scott. Swings and loops it foul up the third baseline. Kind of a half swing pop and still one and two. [Applause] See? Pitching change brought to you by Valvaline instant oil change. Valvaline is here. 15minute instant drive-thru oil change. Visit socal oil change.com for directions and discounts. That’s socal oilchange.com. And now really for the first time since the trade deadline, we get to see Mike Schil operate with this super pen in a two-run game. Top of the sixth, Mason Win struck out both times against Case and he fouls one back. Strike one against Jason Adam who really all year has been the eighth inning guy. And here he is facing the top of the lineup in the sixth inning. I could see a scenario which in which the three guys ahead of Miller and Suarez are all interchangeable depending on who’s coming up in the lineup. Pitches, I guess down and in. One ball, one strike. Just watching how the first day unfolded. Mason took the eighth. Suarez took the ninth. And we’ve seen Shil kind of mix match Jason in Estrada and really all season long. What a luxury man. One-1 half swing grounder to the right of the mound. Adams got it. Little underhand flip. Easy does it and one out in the top of the sixth inning. I mean, that’s got to be from a psychological perspective on the other side. You’re you’re seeing a guy who’s one of the best set of guys in baseball out there in the sixth inning and you’re like, uhoh. Yeah. I mean, and listen, there’s no hiding, right? I mean, if if you’re left-handed and there’s a bunch of you coming up, you won’t see Adam. You’ll see more than home. [Applause] One out, nobody on for Herrera. Officially one for one with the single back in the first inning. Also reached on catchers interference and he takes eyeball one. I mean, you look at Jason’s numbers, they’re incredible. And I would argue that he hasn’t been himself for most of this season despite the the year he’s having. An allstar for the first time. Auto pitch is up and away. really hasn’t commanded the baseball the way we’ve seen, but his stuff is so good and and he’s so intelligent. He can get still find a way to get the outs. Two and0 to Herrera. Adam delivers and a swing and a miss and a good slider. Two and one. And listen, some of that could have been the workload. I mean, he was taxed early in this season and now with the addition of Mason Miller, he’s going to get more rest than he had probably at any point during the season. Carrera swings on two and one, hits it in the air to deep right center field. Long run Jackson Merrill on the track. He will reach out and make the catch. Tatis was kind of cutting behind him, so they had to sort of navigate around one another, but Merryill stuck with it all the way and went a very long way to make the catch. Two outs here in the sixth inning. I think both outfielders took their eye off the ball and just ran to a spot. When they picked it up, they realized how close together they actually were. And you’re right, Totty kind of had to veer off to the right to get out of the way. May have been an easier play for him at the end of the day. So, two outs, nobody on for Berles. Two nothing Padres’s in the sixth inning. Left-handed batter and he takes outside ball one. So, there’s kind of two different versions, right, of the the super pen. One is your starter goes, you know, five innings like today and now you’ve got, you know, 6 7 8 9 however you want to handle it, right? The other version is, you know, when your starter goes seven maybe like Pavlla, like Pavlla did. pitch grounded foul on the right side. One and one. And then you can say, “All right, today it’s going to be right Suarez in the ninth and Miller in the eighth. The next day it might be Adam in the eighth and Miller in the ninth and and so on and so forth.” And you really are able to sort of better manipulate the workload for these backend guys. The one guy that this year for the Pods prior to the deal one-1 to Berles outside that has been probably the most difficult to replace is Suarez. And now with the bullpin being situated the way it is, especially if you get a starter or back-to-back starters that go six or seven, you can now give him a day of rest and feel pretty good about the guys you have in the bullpen. Fouled back two and two. And so now having no matter how you cut it, whether it’s multiple eight and nine guys or you need to kind of interchange 7 89, however you need to do it, Mike Shield is well positioned to be able to handle it. Two outs base is empty. The two to Berles in the air to left field. Lauraniano backing up towards the corner right in front of a shadow. He’s there and he makes the catch to end a one two three. Top of the sixth inning after five and a half Padres’s two Cardinals nothing on the Padres’s radio work. Summer [Music] I believe this one’s my it’s a rookie card. I know, but I feel like it’s the first card that I ever like big league card. Obviously, as a kid trying to get to the big leagues, uh the dream of making it, but as a kid that had cards, right, as a kid, this is like seeing your card the first time is pretty cool. So that’s pretty powerful when you see that card. I was so inspired by what you were making that I want to do my own allstar ballpark bite, but I’m thinking we take some of that brisket that you make and I’m going to do like a little slider. Got the uh pepper jack cheese, some American, get it going some of the barbecue sauce that you have, that spicy delicious one, and then caramelized onions. Make like a little sandwich. We cool. Ranch of the Braves concluded their Speedway Classic today at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee after the game was suspended in the first inning last night. Braves won 4-2. Here’s the one and two and O’Harn pops it up. Foul grab third base. Gorman racing over to that side wall and he can’t make the catch. Kind of lost his footing on the side warning track there and uh just I think he got some leather on it but just couldn’t make the play. He got some leather on it. He was far too concerned with the fence and wall coming up. He still had about three or four steps before even getting there and certainly let one drop that I’m sure he would tell you he should have caught. Yeah, they didn’t give him an error, but that play has got to be made. So, new life for O’Harn. Now, the one and two in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes [Applause] with Nolan Aronado on the IIL. And it’s no guarantee by the way the plays again this year, although they’re hopeful he will. Foreman going to get a good long look at third base. And it’s been a bumpy couple days for him defensively. Two and two to O’Harn. The pitch is low again. Three balls, two strikes. Missed a ton of time with that back issue and don’t know if that’s affecting him, but certainly, you’re right, defensively it hasn’t been great for Colin Gorman in this series. Three and two and O’Harn hits it fair up the third baseline into left field. His first knock is a Padre. Big aggressive turn at first base, but Wisely heads back as the throw comes in from Herrera. And a one out single in the bottom of the sixth inning for Ryan O’Harn. Ryan can check that box now and perhaps relax a little bit. Able to inside out this pitch just inside the third base bag. Picks up the one out single. [Applause] Raone Lauriano. one out of two with an infield single. He was aboard for the Croninworth homer in the fourth inning. Two nothing Padres’s and Lauriano takes outside ball one. The Braves beating the Reds by the way at the racetrack pushes Cincinnati 3 and a half behind the Padres’s for the final wildard spot. No, that’s how many tickets they sold. Okay, there you go. And yeah, there was not that many people today. I imagine not. It’s much earlier start time. Last night’s rain was not great for that event. Hole in the dirt. Two and one. Sounded like there were a bunch of logistical issues as well. You you mentioned it. You and I were talking about offer. They had so much success with some of the these kind of oneoff spots, but when you’re doing it in the Midwest, it you’re bound to run into that at some point. They got lucky. Was it two years ago with the uh Field of Dreams game? Yeah. Last year Rick Wood in Birmingham. Sharp grounded. A short win has got it. Drops it. Picks it up. Flips to second. That’s all they’ll get. And a little bit of a hard slide there as O’Harn went in. And uh he and Saji now pat each other on the back. For a moment it looked like perhaps there was some animosity there, but it turns out it was just kind of a good hard tough clean slide. Yes. So JC was kind of in a tough spot. Had to kind of wait for the ball as Mason Wing kind of booted and just left him there. And as he caught the ball, he was kind of right in the slide path of Bo Hearn. Everything all good. Both guys checked on each other and we move on. Yeah, good clean play. I mean, exactly what you’re supposed to do if you’re a her. So, Lauriano on first and Cronorth, the batter, his two-run homer, the only runs of this game. A fast ball strike nothing at one. Giants beat the Mets 124. They are now tied with the Phillies in the East. Phillies playing the Sunday night game tonight against the Tigers. Brewers swept the Nationals and they just beat him up again 14-3. Yeah, and I bet you if you go back to the series before, which I think was against the Cubs, they went double digits in two of those three games. Wildorth in the air foul at the left field line. It will remain 0 and2. Mentioned it earlier, but the Marlins sweep the Yankees 7 to3 today. The Marlins are now at 500. At one point this year they were 16 games under. We just saw that team. Two nothing Padres’s as we [Applause] You know, in Boston, every now and then you’ll do those throwback days where you bring out the big baggy jerseys, and the baggier the better. When I broke into the league, everybody was wearing really baggy pants. And then as the years go along, I started wearing these skinny mini tight pants that look like they were painted on. So by the time I was with Boston, I really want to wear the baggier the better. We just wanted to be flying around in the outfield there having a good time. [Applause] Heat up here. them. Bottom of the seventh inning, Freddy Fine leads off for the Padres’s against Gordon Graceo. On for a second inning of relief. Padres’s with a two nothing lead. First pitch coming and it’s upstairs in 97. One and0 for me who’s one out of two with a bunt single. Only two runs of this game courtesy of a Jake Croninworth homer against Palante in the fourth. One and0 the pitch and F mean fouls it back towards Tony. Look out and right above our heads. One and one. That one had some steam on it. I certainly would have uh been diving out of the way if I felt like I was in danger. That was a no-go. No, Tony has a very smart though disadventurous take on foul ball. Ground ball is foul here. One and two. Definitely disadventurous for sure, but very smart. Yeah. You know, I I played this game for a long time and the whole time I had a glove on. No longer have that glove and now catching that baseball is not nearly as enticing. And by the way, not easy even with a glove. Exactly. And by the way, I was always in front of the hitter. This whole behind the hitter thing is a whole different spin. And you know, I just rather not. Always talking about the different spin like in left as compared to center. Here’s a hard hit base hit into right field. Freddy Fine second knock of the day. Opposite field single to begin the bottom of the seventh inning as the Padres’s try and add to their lead. That’s the punt single in the third here in the seventh. Little inside out action. Shoots it to right field. Lead off knock for me. Fernando coming up 0 for one. Couple of walks and a strikeout. Mason Miller has started warming in the Padre Bullpen. Adam in the sixth, Estrada in the seventh. It’ll be Miller in the eighth if it’s still close. Here’s Tatis. First pitch breaking ball grounded right side through the dive of S JC into right field. A base hit for me. going to go first to third with ease. Tatis trying for two and he’s there with a hustle double. Mentioned that the last AB for Tat. He had that right side wide open. This time he takes advantage and I don’t know what happened in center and right, but Walker ends up being the one that gets to it and has to get rid of it on the run. Just never really looked like Victor Scott II could get there. And so Todd takes advantage, slides into second, hustle double. They got to bring the infield in now against Luis Arise. Second and third, nobody out with a two nothing lead and a fastball strike. We didn’t get a great look on the replay, but the only thing maybe I saw was that Scott was going to let it roll to him and Walker was trying to be a little bit more on it knowing that Fernando might take second. It’s exactly what I think happened. Oh, and one to arise. Prophec delivers. Luis swings, pops it into shallow center field. Long run Scott coming on. He’ll get there. Make the catch. And that is the first out of the inning. Visit America’s number one ballpark and go behind the scenes with a Petco Park tour presented by Bubs of the Ballpark. One of the rare times you see Luis Arise not be able to execute in that situation. Cardinals get the out. Second and third. One away from Machado. Here’s the first pitch and Manny takes in the dirt outside. Ball one. Manny needs a knock to continue his hit streak. 0 for three on the day so far. Has hit in 10 straight. One hit yesterday, one hit Friday. Prior to that, it seemed like two or three hits a night for the entire week. Yeah. One and0 and in the dirt again. Two balls, no strikes. He got first base open. And you wonder how long they’ll let this go on. A great block by Posal has been terrific keeping a lot of these pitches in front of him. Padres’s with a two nothing lead. They’ve got Tatis at second, Firmina at third and one out in the seventh. 2 and0 the pitch and Machado takes high ball three. Poso keeps looking over to the dugout like he’s expecting to see her fingers being held up by his manager. But so far Ali Marl has not issued an intentional walk and he will not. Jackson Merrill waits on deck. Here’s the 3 and 0. Machado takes slowing outside ball four. Nothing was close and we can call that the old unintentional intentional and load the bases for Jackson Merrill with one out here in the seventh inning. Wonder is there a learning curve in there for right? I mean you’re not going to always be able to just put the four fingers. You’re going to sometimes need to be able to try to entice a hitter to swing them back. Got a little practice there. All four of those pitches looked like they were in the zone. Manny just was a little bit better. He takes the four pits walk. Seen a lot of that from the Cardinals in this series. We kind of talked about it on Friday night after their trade deadline. Very much the opposite situation is the Padres and maybe focusing a bit more on development now. See some more of that probably coming up in Arizona this week as well. And listen, certainly Ali Maro could have put the four out and let him go, but there going to be a time where you you’re not going to want to do that. You want to see if you can get the hitter to put the ball in play. loads the bases though for Jackson Merrill. Two nothing in the bottom of the seventh inning. First pitch, Merryill swings, grounds it towards first. That’s a fair ball down the line. Here we go. Fine is scored. Fernando’s on his way. Machado being waved at third. The relay comes into first. No chance. A bases clearing. Triple for Merrill. And it’s 5 nothing in the seventh. And the gates have opened. Chopper right down the right field line. Clears the bases for Jackson Merrill. Threerun triple. Padres’s open it up here in the seventh. 5 nothing Lee. Those insurance runs brought to you by Pine Solomon Personal Injury Lawyers. Don’t let any insurance company convince you that’s enough. Your local San Diego lawyers at Pine Solomon pursue the compensation you deserve. Learn more at seriousaxaccc.com. Merryill third infield in. Bogart’s the batter and he takes low ball one. I have to think Mason Miller sits down now and probably David Morgan gets up. 5 nothing Padres’s in the bottom of the seventh inning. One and0 and Bogards takes a fast ball strike. When it was two nothing, we were talking about the idea of going Adam to Estrada to Miller to Suarez. This, I am sure, is Mike Schultz’s preference. Yes, that you extend the lead and maybe get to use some other guys. 1-1 is outside. Two balls in a strike. No question about it. This is much more ideal for Mike Shill. I know talk about workload is probably kind of boring, but it is absolutely critical, particularly when you consider the number of innings the Padres’s hope these guys are going to throw in the month of October. 2-1 is swung on and miss. Two and two now to Xander. The way things are shaping up very well the innings they may need to throw in September as this division has gotten a lot tighter. Second time this week Merryill has had a bases clearing triple. He’s at third with one away. Two and two to Bogarts. The pitch. Xander swings. Sends it in the air to left center field. Not too deep. We’ll see. Scott coming in. Still coming in. He makes the catch. Merryill tagging. He’s going to try. Here’s the throw to the plate. It’s up the first baseline and a sack fly to add on it. Six to nothing. That is how you tag up from third base with it kind of being 50/50. He took off and he took off looking back cuz he if it’s a good throw, he can hit the brakes and go back. He realized it wasn’t a good throw and you can almost see him get the next gear as he picks up another run for the pot. [Applause] Now Ryan O’Harn will bat with two outs and nobody on. Padres’s with a four-run seventh inning. First pitch swinging. Ground ball foul right side and strike one to O’Harn who picked up his first hit as a Padre and his last at back. Got some help when Gorman couldn’t catch the foul pop up earlier in the AB. And one GPO delivers and O’Harn takes inside. One ball, one strike. Padres’s a six nothing lead. They are out hitting the Cardinals 9 to one and it is David Morgan warming with six outs to get. [Applause] Ball on the strike. Pitch on the way and O’Harn hits it hard on the ground right side. Diving stopped by Saji gets up, bounces and rolls the throw to first in time to end the inning. And a really nice play by the kid at a Cardinals bat high. Padres’s do damage though. A fourrun seventh inning and we head to the eighth. It is now San Diego’s 6 St. Louis Nothing on the Padres’s Radio Network. With the clock ticking on the solar tax credit, now is the time to act to save thousands of dollars. Veteran and locally owned Asgard Energy is offering. They flip the glove. That was not a good idea. All he needed to do was try to get the lead guy by giving a nice easy feed. Oh no. Stay your feet. No. No. I thought he was going to stay on his feet. Uh-oh. The goose did not know that the game was starting. Maybe the goose thought it was 6:45 first pitch time. Oh man. Off the glove and off the dome. He’s saying, “Oh man, what happened?” It’s a moment that he’ll never forget. And that’ll be on the pooper everywhere. Downey Rinse and Refresh. Fights odor in just one wash, guaranteed. They’ve now got a 6 nothing lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. Joel Poso, the catcher, leads off for the Redbirds. And Morgan’s first pitch swung on, fouled away right side, nothing and one. Morgan threw two innings in last night’s game. A scoreless seventh and a scoreless eighth. He ended up using 19 pitches to get those six outs. So back out there for a second consecutive day as was Jeremiah Estrada who worked last in 0 and one. Poso check swing takes low and outside. One ball and one strike. So JC on deck. Victor Scott the second after that. Bottom of the order for the Cardinals here in the eighth inning against Morgan. [Applause] One and one to Poso. Morgan delivers and a swing and a miss. He tried to check but went almost all the way around. One and two. Pitching change brought to you by Valvaline Instant Oil Change. Valvaline is your 15-minute instant drive-thru oil change. Visit socal oilchange.com for directions and discounts. That’s socalo oilchange.com. Ozo 0 for two with a strike out and a ground out. Morgan is set now. The one and two pitch is on the way. Taken low and outside. So it goes to two balls and two strikes. That was the curve ball from David Morgan who also throws a slider. making his 25th appearance of the year. A 193 erra. [Applause] Two and two the pitch and Posa takes down and away again. Another curveball count. Phil fills three and two. Padres is trying to win this series. And with a victory today, it would be a five and one home stand. swept the Mets earlier this week. Three and two and way inside. Poss out of the way and somehow did not get hit by that 97 mph pitch. [Applause] Take his base after ball four almost clipped him. Now bring up JC made a terrific play to end the last inning. Took a base hit away from Ryan O’Harn. did the kind of uh bounce and roll over to first base. [Applause] Runner on first, nobody out. Morgan has issued a leadoff walk. Got a double play yesterday. Fastball strike here. Nothing at one. And that’s certainly in the arsenal for David Morgan. Pitching with a 6 nothing lead here in the top of the eighth inning. 0 and one the pitch. So JC swings and misses at a 97 mph fast ball strike two. Looking ahead 02 Beacon finish to JC off here. Bo at first base, nobody out. The O2 pitch is swung on and fouled on the ground towards the Cardinal dugout left side. mentioned SJC’s great play in the bottom of the last inning. Padres’s have played some really good defense again on this home stand. Tony’s hung a couple of stars. Somebody was telling us the other day that after one of the plays in which you did not hang a star. There was a fan screaming at us. We just didn’t hear him. Jesse, hang the star. Hang the star. Here’s the O2 fouled back. And this is where I I have to report. Uh it’s Tony. It’s not Jesse. Yeah. No, it’s definitely me. And uh my standards are are pretty high. Yeah. So, you know, for most I’ not the first time a fan has yelled at me for not hanging on or been disappointed that I have it, but are the standards. It is a very high bar and Tony takes it very seriously. 02 again. So, JC bounces it foul at third base. If people only knew how many times as a kid I was disappointed looking up to see if there was going to be a star hung out and Jerry or or Ted hadn’t hung one. I realize that, you know, it can’t just be any normal play. It’s got to be a star worthy of a play. They had high standards. You have high standards. No one’s standards are higher of course than Dave Marcus. No one. If Dave were in charge, there would never have been a star hung ever. All the dirt goes to the back stop. Bozo will take second base and now one and two to sug Jason. Of course, he was basically raised by those two gentlemen that I mentioned. So, he drives a hard bar. There are is a rare occasion I’ll look back at him to get his approval and I don’t think in however many years I’ve been doing this I’ve ever got his approval. Like he’s been like thumbs up. He’s a he’s a big disapproval guy generally. Yes, he is. So, that tracks. Wild pitch, runner on second and one, two is outside from Morgan. Two balls, two strikes. Wave is going here at Petco. And what a perfect moment for a Wave. Beautiful Sunday afternoon. Top of the eighth inning. 6 nothing lead. Two and two to S JC Morgan delivers in the dirt. Three balls, two strikes. 02 to 32. Oh, excuse me. David Morgan already having walked the first hitter after being ahead one. Poso is that hitter. He’s at second after the wild pitch. Three and two now to Saji. And in the air, foul out of play right side. We do it again. There will be at least 10 pitches in this at bat between Morgan and Saji who playing his first ever game in the big leagues at Petco. Carl’s bad kid and he struck out both times. Just made a nice defensive play. You know he’s up there grinding trying to get on base one way or another. 16th pitch of the inning. And now time called by Saji. Back in the box and waiting on Morgan who comes set. Runner on second. Nobody away. This is the 10th pitch of the at that. And a swing and a miss. Strike three. So SJC strikes out for the third time today. And Morgan wins a great battle there. And one down with Victor Scott the second coming up. Nothing special. Just a 97 mph fast ball. Top of the zone. Able to rush it by saci number one. 13th strike out of the day for Padre pitching. And that might be David Morgan’s superpower by the way. Just not afraid to throw strikes and challenge a guy. Victor Scott II takes low ball one. Especially when he’s falling behind. He’s not afraid to use his heater. And you know, I think in some ways David is working on some of the same things some of the other young pitchers that the Padres’s have seen this year on this roster are working on. That’s getting ahead and being able to finish guys. One and0 to Scott. He takes on the outside corner for a strike. One and one. And for David, I don’t I think it’s less about the type of stuff he has and more about commanding the stuff he has. You see those strikeouts start to climb a lot more. Bozo at second, one out. 6 nothing Padres’s in the eighth. And a ground ball wide of first. Nice play with the bare hands by the Cardinal first base coach Stubby Clap. One of the best names in all of baseball. They got Stubby Clamp coaching first and Ron Pop War Corner at third. Their pitching coach is Dusty Blake. Far and away the best named coaching staff in the National League. One, two, right down the middle. That strike three called backto back Hayes for David Morgan. And now that Victor Scott II has struck out, the only Cardinal today not to strike out is the number two hitter Ivon Herrera. Good comeback fast ball. Fast ball. You see Mike from Michael King often this time is David Morgan utilizing it for out number two. So a lead walk, a wild pitch, but now two straight strikeouts as the leadoff man Mason Win stands in. 0 for three with two strikeouts of his own and he takes a little bit in in 97 ball one. [Applause] Want to begin this inning put a Cardinal on base for the first time since the catcher’s interference in the third inning. They’ve not had a hit since the first and it’s their only hit. 10 is high. had two balls, no strikes. Dylan C started five shutout innings, one hit, one walk, nine strikeouts. A lot of pitches, especially early on before settling in. Jason Adam a perfect six. The Estrada struck out the side in the seventh. And now it’s Morgan in the eighth. Two pitch and win takes a fast ball strike. Two and one. Radar Munoz and Andre Grano who hit Machado last Sunday in St. Louis that caused the benches to sort of empty are warming up for the Red Birds. Saturday might have been Saturday. Swinging a miss two and two on one of the four games in St. Louis. Feels like a month and a half ago when it was really we spent four days there. So, you know, game one feels like game two and three. Four game series break the break particularly in the summer months. Two and two and win in the air foul up the right field line. Still two balls. The only reason why I know the fourth game doesn’t factor in there cuz it was a day game. It looked different than the other three. That’s the only separator is that it was bright out. Right. That’s what’s terrible about having the four game series in the domes. You can’t tell the difference. It’s all the same. They all run together. Runner on second. Two outs. 25 pitches for Morgan now trying to finish the deal. Two two to win. Swung on and miss. Strike three. A leadoff walk and then three straight strikeouts for David Morgan. 15ks on the day for Padre pitching after seven and a half. The name of the business is Legacy Catering. We all were talking about how mom taught us all how to cook. She was a cook at the um the public school system for ages. So, we all started cook with her. So, we decided, you know, to do the business. So we went figure out what we’re going to call it. So we said let’s cook and honor you know our mother. So there legacy came in and just remember that legacy catering is about people and this is what barbecuing is all about and this is why we love it. [Music] I was in TripleA and right before the game they said no no you got to stop. You need to hurry up and go to Cincinnati. You’re about to go play a game there. You got 45 minutes till the game starts. So, I get in my car and I start driving and all I keep thinking about is which jersey are they wearing that night? So, when I get to the locker room, I see my my jersey hung up and love the white jerseys. Just the stitching on it, the old school feel to it. Coffees, prune juice, everything. Then Mirax and Hello, gentle relief without the harsh side effects. Ooh, how does it work? It works naturally with the water in your body for constipation relief. Find Mirillax today at your local retailer. Use as directed for occasional constipation. [Music] Hey Padre fans, just like my pets are family. That’s why I trust Petco for the food they love and the services they need to stay happy and healthy all at great prices. PCO for the Pet Lauraniano Cornworth and for me coming up in the bottom of the eighth inning they’ll face a new pitcher the hardthrowing right-hander former Marlin Rodri Munoz saw Munoz make a start against the Padres’s last year in Miami. Recalled from Triple A Memphis on Friday. He’s been up and down six times with the Cardinals this year and in six games he has an erra over eight. takes over for Grace who allowed four runs on four hits in two innings. Pitching change brought to you by Sid Garbid Barn. Sids Carpet Barn stands alone as San Diego’s floor covering leader Laurato gets in there. And the first pitch from the 6’2 Munoz is swung on and missed strike one. From a huge selection of premium high-end choices to quality budget friendly options, Sids has you covered. Bottom of the eighth inning, the Trust will score. is the Padres’s six and the Cardinals nothing. 0 and one. Lauraniano swings and misses. That is strike two. Padres’s led two nothing after four and then broke it open with a four-run seventh inning. Adrien is throwing in the Padre bullpen. Looks like he’ll be the guy to close this thing out. Oh, and two to Lauriano. Muno’s pitch is way high and I think he crossed up his catcher there. Poso expected that ball to break and it was a fast ball that just took straight up. You’re right. He certainly looked like he was prepared for spin. [Applause] Pitch here is low and from 0 and two to two and two. [Applause] Lauraniano one out of three with an infield hit and a run scored. He was aboard for the Croninworth homer and he grounds this one foul at third base. Stay tuned for the Hamul Casino Resort postgame show with Braden Serprenit immediately following the game. You look at the bottom of the lineup today. Four hits between seven, eight, nine and able to come around and score some runs of their own. So this is kind of that formula Jesse and I have been talking about. Two and two to Lauriano delivers and that’s in the air to right field. Well struck. Walker’s going back. He’s on the warning track at the wall. It’s going to go taco for Ramo Lauraniano. His first is a Padre 16th of the season and now seven to nothing in the eighth. The bottom of the lineup continues to do damage for the pods. Now five hits between 7 8 n this one. Oppo taco to the right side. 16th of the year RBI 48. Padres’s doing some damage on the offensive end. Second consecutive Sunday they have really kicked around the St. Louis Cardinals. did it to the starter last week doing it to everybody here as this one line foul strike one to Chrono last Sunday in St. Louis a 9-2 win in which they out hit the Cardinals 16-6. And that home run by Lauriano not only makes it seven to nothing, but it gives the Padres’s doubledigit hits again here this afternoon. The one pitch and Cronorth grounds it foul at first base. That strike two. Padre’s totaled nine hits in yesterday’s game, but now 10 or more hits in five out of the last 10 games. It’s a lot of hitting. Sure, that brings a smile to hitting coach Victor Rodriguez’s face. [Applause] Oh, and two to Croninworth. Munoz delivers and Jake swings and misses at a good slider. That is strike three and a first out here in the bottom of the eighth inning. [Applause] [Applause] one out, nobody on. Bottom of the eighth, 7 nothing San Diego out hitting the Cardinals 10 to one. Freddy F mean two for three with a run scored and he takes inside ball one from Munoz. One single single to right run score supporting that bottom part of the lineup and catching a one hit shut out. One and0 and F mean rips one foul down the left field line. It’s probably worth mentioning. We talked about Cease being a little bit off in the first inning and then settling in. That was the first time he ever threw to Freddy Fer. No doubt. No doubt. That certainly could play a part in it. And we did see Dylan settled in, kind of managed some of the issues he had and got through five. One-1 is swung on and missed. And now a ball in two strikes, two for me. Fernando on deck. Beautiful Sunday afternoon at Petco. Final game of the home stand. Padres’s three outs away from a five and one home stand. [Applause] ball in two strikes, two for me. Roari Munoz on the mound delivers and in the dirt two and two. Jesse Agler, Tony Gwen Jr., our producer engineer is Dave Marcus. Back in the studios though, we have Kyle Ovenshshire. Shout out to Kyle. We need to talk a little bit about that. Yeah, we do. Two and two to for me again. Ball three. So, we don’t often get to meet the board operators because they’re in the studio. We are at the stadium and it’s just kind of the way it goes. And what we know of the board operators is what we get from Dave. He hands us a little card with their names on them and we like to shout them out and thank them for all their hard work back in the studio. It’s kind of a thankless job. So, we like to thank them. No doubt. Three and two and for me takes inside. That is ball four. It’s a one out walk ahead of Tatis here in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Padres’s up seven to nothing. So all year Dave’s been handing down the little sheet that says Kyle Ovenshaw. And we’ve been saying Kyle Ovenshaw and it got to us I don’t know a day ago maybe two days ago that in fact it is not Kyle Ovenshaw but rather Kyle. Yes. And that Kyle was just too nice of a guy and didn’t want to correct anybody. Come on Kyle, that’s your name. Tatis takes down and in for a strike. Nothing in one. If it wasn’t for Matt Matt Scravy coming in here and kind of putting it on our radar, we may have never gotten it right. And then I would have felt really bad as opposed to just a little bad cuz it’s only been, you know, one year or one pitch in the dirt. Imagine 3 years from now we get a bump into Kyle or Ralphs or whatever. Hey, by the way. So, I’m glad we got it taken care of here in his first year working with us on Padres’s Radio. Kyle, apologies for getting it wrong all these months, but you definitely should have told us. One and one to Tatis. Runner on first, one out, and Fernando takes a fast ball. Strike one and two. Since we are handing out apologies, uh I do owe Thomas JC and his family an apology cuz I certainly butchered his last name here in the lineup. So to the Sajci family, my apologies. It’s a good baseball spelling be name. It is. Fernando swings and misses. That is strike three. Two down here in the eighth inning. A rise coming up. And uh wouldn’t it be funny right if the Saji families were friends with the old fans? It would be quite funny and ironic. SJC is spelled S A G G E S E. So like we said, it’s a good baseball spelling be name. Rise swings and misses and a down and in cutter strike one. I don’t know that Luis has swung a miss at a baseball in this stretch of good hitting in maybe three or four weeks. It’s been a while for me in that first two down in the bottom of the eighth inning. 7 nothing Padres’s over the Cardinals. 01 pitch and Arise takes in the dirt. one and one. Kind of ended up in a pike position and then walked his hands back towards his feet and stood up. Guess didn’t want to hit the dirt, so held the pike position. Ball is trying to arise. Antonio steals and Luis swings, pops it up shallow left field. Win is back from short. Perrera coming in and win will sort of lean to his left and make the catch to end the inning. Padres’s add-on thanks to Raone Lauraniano’s first home run in the Brown and Gold. And we go to the ninth inning at Petco. They flip with the glove. That was not a good idea. All he needed to do is try to get the lead guy by give a nice easy feed. Oh no. Stay on your feet. No. And that’ll be on the blooper everywhere. This is a good one right here. The Padres’s little pinstripe uh unis. We wear these every Thursday. When I kept it, I wanted to keep it all dirty. always felt like if you didn’t get dirty in a baseball game, uh you kind of didn’t really play that day. So, I had my pine tar there, uh a little dirt in the front side of it, but the brown and orange really cool cleat. All the fans really enjoyed it as much as the players did. [Applause] [Applause] auto parts, snakes, zombies, public speaking. The list of fears is endless. But the real danger is in your hand when you’re behind the wheel. Distracted driving is what’s really scary and even deadly. Eyes forward. Don’t drive distracted. Brought to you by Nitsa and the ad council. Top of the ninth inning. A trusted will score the Padres’s seven and the Cardinals nothing. Ivon Herrera, Alec Berles, and Wilson Contreres coming up against the new Padre pitcher, left-hander Adrien Morahon. And Herrera will get into the batters box as the only Cardinal to have yet to strike out this afternoon. Padre pitching has racked up 15 strikeouts in eight shutout innings. Cardinals have one hit today and it was this guy Herrera singling with one out against ill in the top of the first inning. A lot of Ks looking at the score sheet there on the Cardinal side. at home looking to add one to Herrera who hasn’t struck out all game. The only guy first pitch is a little bit up in 96. One ball and no strikes. Each of the last six outs have come by a striker. Morgan in the eighth and Estrada in the seventh. Here’s the one and0. Herrera lines it sharply. That’s it to center field and a base hit. Only the second hit of the day for the Cardinals, their first since the first inning. And Ivon Herrera, not only the only guy not to strike out, the only guy with a hit here this afternoon for the Cardinals. Got both of them. Singled in the first. Well, not a surprise. Getting a chance to watch him for seven games. That’s the tool that he has. He can swing the bat. Most strikeouts the Padres’s have collected in a game this year is 17. So that is in range here in the ninth inning as Alec Berles gets into the box to go lefty lefty against and a first pitch fast ball low 1 and0. [Applause] If you’re wondering you know in the ninth inning of a 7 nothing game well it’s been a little while since he’s been out there. He last pitched on Tuesday against the Mets and that was a really brief appearance. 10. Berles fouls it off at the plate. One ball and one strike through nine pitches in the seventh inning on Tuesday. Working a one two3 inning in the 71 run. Then you start thinking about all right well you had Matsui worked last night. Palta worked last night. Adrien certainly makes sense. One is low two balls in a strike. Reality is with these guys out in the bullpen, there are going to be times when, you know, a high leverage arm is pitching in a less than high leverage situation and those things all point to good signs for the ball club as a team. Better believe it. 2-1 and Berles grabs it right side. Diving attempts corner, but it’s into right field in a base hit. So back-to back singles against to begin the ninth inning. Got the sinker elevated and Brolison able to bang it through the right side for a knock. [Applause] Just kind of peaked out towards the Padre bullpen to see if maybe Miller or Suarez might, you know, stand up and start moving around a little bit. But everybody is exactly where they were a minute ago. Contras gets in. Two on, nobody out. and he takes high ball one. Obviously the Padres’s are playing with a nice cushion here in a seven nothing game. [Applause] One and OD to Contis Morona look back now the pitch and outside two and0. The command is clearly off here. [Applause] Berles at first, Herrera at second, nobody out. Top of the ninth inning. Padres’s with a seven nothing lead over the Cardinals. The pitch is taken for a strike at the top of the zone. Padres’s have 15 shutout wins this year, more than any other team in baseball. The Cubs and the Pirates are next with 13. Not going to be automatic here though with first and second, nobody out. Two-1 pitch and Contras takes up and away. Ball three. And this is what can happen when a guy has been out often and all of a sudden has some time between the his last outing. You know, not as sharp as we’ve typically seen him. 10 pitches so far, only four strengths. Three and one on Contrarus. Here’s the pitch and it’s up and away. Ball four. The bases are loaded with nobody out. Padres’s have a seven nothing lead. We’ll pause 10 seconds for station identification on the Padres’s radio network. KWF and KWFN HD1 San Diego. This is Mike Shield, manager of the San Diego Padre. The Padres’s play here on 973 The Fan, an Odyssey sports station with Tony Gwyn Jr., our producer engineer Dave Marcus. I’m Jesse Agler. Kyle Oenshshire is our studio coordinator. Padres’s with a 7 nothing lead over the Cardinals here in the top of the ninth inning, but St. Louis has loaded the bases with nobody out against Adrien Moral. Ruben Eve, the Padre pitching coach, is out to chat. And the visit to the mound is brought to you by The Window Depot, offering the best prices and biggest inventory on in stock vinyl windows and interior and exterior doors. Order online or find a location near you at the window.com. [Applause] Still, nobody has moved a muscle in the Padre Bullpen. Now they’re content to let Morning Hong work through this. Base is loaded as Nolan Gorman comes to the plate. Contras at first, Perles at second, Herrera at third. Gorman 0 for three with a couple of strikeouts going lefty lefty against Moral. First pitch is a fast ball strike, nothing in one. Runners [Applause] lead at all three bases. Oh, and one to Gorman. And Mora Holmes pitch is inside one and one. Padre’s got a two-run homer from Croninworth in the fourth inning to go ahead two nothing. And they broke it open in the seventh. The big hit, a bases clearing, three-run triple from Jackson Merrill. Ramon Lauraniano just homered in the bottom of the eighth. But now the Cardinals with the bases loaded and a ball in the dirt. Two and one. [Applause] The pitching today once C settled in has been just absolutely overpowering. But the Cardinals with an opportunity to rally truly for the first time this afternoon right here, right now. Two and one taken and a fast ball strike that evens it up. Two and two. Yeah, easily their biggest threat of this ball game. Mahome gets the count back to 2-2. Runners lead at all three stations. delivers and the 2-2 is at the top of the zone but called a ball and it’s now full three and two looked like it caught the top of the zone but disagreed. Count moves to 3-2. Remember Moron’s kind of been spraying it all over the place. So yeah, three and two the pitch lined and over. Bogarts into center field. A base hit. Herrera will score. They’re going to throw to third. have a shot at a course, but Berles there as the floor came a little bit up the line. So, an RBI single for Nolan Gorman. The Cardinals will not be shut out. It’s now 7 to one and they still have the bases loaded with nobody out. Good stroke there by Gorman. Got the sinker again. It’s the sinker is elevated. It’s good hitting. Gorman shoots it to center field. Picks up the RBI single. Bases remain loaded now for Jordan Walker. [Applause] First pitch on the way and Walker with a big swing and a miss at a slider. Strike one. Walker 0 for three with two strikeouts. [Applause] Robert Suarez now is warming in the Padre Bullpen. 18 pitches for 10 balls, eight strikes. This is lined into right field. That’s down at the base hit. Furles will score. Contraras will be held. Another run in. It’s 7 to2. And still the Cardinals have the bases loaded and nobody out. Now the tying run is in the on deck circle. So that makes it a close or excuse me a safe situation. Single to right from Walker. And I think at this point Freddy Vermine and Manny Machado are going out to stall. This will be the 20th pitch coming from Morio. Single single walk, single single to begin the inning. [Applause] And just uh one of those days it happens, you know, a guy like you said hadn’t been out there in a few days and it just looked off almost from moment one. Yeah. for more at home. Town visit is over. See if Mike Schill pops out of the dugout or perhaps they give him one more batter. You got the number seven hitter Koso at the dish. Looks like they’re going to give him one more batter. Perhaps Adrian can induce a double play and speed the process up a little bit. Nope. Mike Schil now is coming out. So he took absolutely as much time as he possibly could to allow Suarez to warm up. And as Tony said in a fiveun game, bases loaded, the tying run is in the on deck circle. So it is a safe situation now. And Mike will make a pitching change with the bases loaded and nobody out in the top of the ninth bing. Padres 7, Cardinals 2. Here comes Suarez on the Padres’s radio network. Thinking about home improvements. Genesis Home Improvements Padres’s return to the closing. Robert Suarez enters the ball game 31 of 35 in save opportunities. Fifth, excuse me, 49th appearance, three and four with a 335 ERA. This pitching change brought to you by Valvaline instant oil change. Valvaline is your 15minute instant drive-thru oil change. Visit socal oilchange.com for directions and discounts. That’s socal oilchange.com. What was a 7 nothing Padre lead and what looked like a fat plea here in the top of the ninth inning is now a 72 game and the Cardinals have the bases loaded, nobody out as Suarez comes on to face Po and a first pitch fast ball, first strike, nothing at one. So JC was scheduled to be next, but Lars Newar has stepped out on deck. They’ve got Walker at first, Gorman at second, and Contrarus at third. Two runs already in. Here’s the 0 and one. Poso takes a fast ball strike and Suarez is ahead. No balls, two strikes. Ahead. A couple good fast balls. Well located. Moves ahead. 02. Sellout crowd of 44,79 here this afternoon. Many of them are listening to us right now in their cars. Place emptied out with the Padres’s up 7 nothing. But the Cardinals are making it interesting here in the ninth. 02 pitch. Poso swings and misses. Strike three. Out number one in the top of the ninth inning. All gas, no breaks. Three heaters from Suarez. And the last one dotted up on the outside corner. Ozo goes down swinging. So, Newar, who came off the IIL yesterday and made the start in right field, going one for five with a single and two strikeouts, will pinch hit for Saji, who struck out all three times. Newar hitting 226, a dozen homers, 37 RBI’s. This is his 90th game. Left-handed batter against Robert Suarez. Bases loaded, one out, and a swing and a miss. Well, the biggest uh contrast right now between Suarez and is that Robert has come out throwing strikes. It’s just that simple. Robert dialed in all strikes so far. Oh, and one to Newar. The pitch is line foul left side. Nothing and two or 19 pitches. Only nine were strikes. Suarez. Suarez is scoring five. All five strikes. Oh, and two. The pitch is way outside. One and two. Change up. Got away from him a little bit. 72 Padres’s with the bases loaded for the Cardinals. One out, ninth inning. A one-two pitch. Newar takes low outside. Another change up and it’s two and two. RBI singles from Gorman and Walker have made this thing more interesting than it was a few minutes ago. Two- two pitch, check swing. They appeal to third, didn’t go, and a fast ball missing high. So the count now full on Newar. Three and two. Mike Lars was able to check his swing. Nowhere to put him. 3-2 pitch. Here it comes. And Nbar swings. Sends it in the air. Fouled out of play behind the third base dugout. It’s still three and two. I mean to give you a sense of this inning, not only have the only two runs of the day for the Cardinals come here in the ninth inning, but four of the five hits that they have had today have come here in the ninth inning. Bases loaded, one out. Three and two to the pinch hitter. Here’s the pitch from Suarez. Line to left field. Lauraniano backing up. He will make the catch out number two. Contraz tagging. He comes in to score. It’s a sacrifice fly to make it seven to three. But the Cardinals are finally down to their final lap. Bar hit it on the line. But Moriano right there for route number two. Cardinals get another run, but the Padres’s just one out away from winning this series. Tying run will come to the plate. Victor Scott the second is the batter. 0 for three with a strike out. Pardon me. Tying run is still on deck. Pitch is high. One and0. TV had the boxes wrong and I didn’t trust my own eyes. First and second, two down. Scott two for four in his career against Robert Suarez. One and0. The pitch is lined into right field. That’s down in front of Fernando. He’s got to play it on a hop. And now the tying run will come to the plate. Gorman was held at third base. But another hit here in the ninth inning for the Cardinals. They’ve got the bases loaded, two outs. And now Mason Win, the only Cardinal hitter not to come up so far in the ninth inning, will bat representing the potential tying run. Cardinals just are not backing down or going away. They’ll bring the tying run to the plate here in Mason W. Base is loaded, two outs. Seven to3 Padres’s win 0 for four with three strikeouts. First pitch to him is a little low. Ball one. You do have something of a shadow right at home plate now. Tying run of the dish. Two away in the ninth inning. One and the pitch. Quinn takes fast ball strength near the outside corner. one in one and didn’t get the change up at the bottom of the zone, but got the 100 mph fast ball that looked to be just off the plate to move the count to 1-1. Suarez comes set, runners lead. The pitch is swung on and miss strike two. Blew him away there. 101 mph fast and the count is one and two on Mason Win. win like Scott before him. Two for four in his career against Robert Suarez. He saw CE and Morgan blow heaters by him. Another punch out will be his fourth of the game. Here it is on one and two and a line drive caught by Suarez. The game is over. far more interesting than anybody in that first base dugout wanted it to be in the ninth inning, but the Padres’s literally hold on for the victory as Suarez snags the line drive to end the game. Cardinals get three in the ninth, but that’s all. And the Padres’s wrap a 5-1 home stand with a 7 to3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Take a break, come back, give you some final thoughts and the totals on the Padres’s Radio Network.
