[Perrotto] Sources: Pirates’ Payroll Unlikely to Rise in ’26 Despite Heat From MLB

In other breaking news, the sun rose from the east this morning
I’m fully expecting our payroll to be lower.
Pham and Heaney will be released and Keller will be traded with bargin basement signings replacing them
So, you know, don’t wait too long to purchase those season tickets.
Force him to sell the team.
So much for winning it all. Not much motivation to win when they get paid 💩. The rebuilding will continue and 2027 will be our year if they play
They’re losing money just as they lost money last year. The moves at the deadline couldn’t be any clearer.
Payroll will continue to be nearly lock step with ticket revenues. The change that will come due to MLBs pressure is that Cherington will get the boot and a new GM will come with MLBs recommendation.
Insert pretending to be shocked gif
The PG report was crystal clear. Major League payroll = ballpark revenue. They haven’t strayed from that in over 15 years. If attendance is down this year, payroll will be down next year.
Wait say that again so I can pretend to be surprised, I wasn’t ready
In other news no one seems to care about the Pirates an longer.
That’s excellent reporting by Perrotto. I can’t wait to see him breakdown how there will be a Thursday next week.
The MLB needs to put pressure on this crook. Raking in millions and spending none of it on this team. Their bro club should be dismantled. I’ve written to the commissioner and will continue to do so weekly until something is done.
Not surprising at all, I fully expect their payroll to be at about $85 million again next year. Until they get a new owner or a floor/cap, nothing is going to change.
I read somewhere that the Mets pay more in luxury tax than the entire Pirates 2025 payroll, and that was before the trade deadline.
There are ways to win without a huge payroll, but it comes from a constant stream of younger talent moving through the system. Zero development on the offensive side of the game in six years of the Cherington regime. Nick Gonzales is the only draft pick that does anything at the plate, and he’s a slap hitting 2B at best.
When you can’t supplement your roster with significant free agent talent when you miss on the development of drafted players, you get the 2025 Pirates roster.
Don’t worry. Both him and Cherrington insisted they want to win. /s
Actually I think payroll will be lower next year, perhaps by a good amount. Nutting is among many other things (cheap, incompetent, dorky, poor dresser, etc) RISK-AVERSE. I believe he is looking at the lockout coming and will save as much money now as he can to withstand that work stoppage when I assume there will be mo revenue sharing going on without any games. Keller will definitely be traded, possibly Reynolds too. Could be looking at around $50-70 mill.
Im not hoping for anything, but this feels like the same “sources” pony gets
He’s starting to grease the wheels about a potential move, talking about declining attendance 😔
Yet ticket prices will increase right?
ThIs Is NeW YoRk AnD La’S fAuLt!!!
That’s telling me that MLB wants Pirates ownership to make an effort to win while they have a generaltional pitching talent. The league wants him in the playoffs and they want it now
Perrotto is probably correct but he’s just throwing shit at the wall. 9/10 he’s completely wrong in his reporting. This is just an easy W for him
but I thought Bob had BC working on an extension for Skenes? 🤣
I have to think other owners must hate Nutting almost as much as we do. He just puts out shitty team after shitty team, and gets rich from revenue sharing. I’d be pissed.
I am fully convinced the Pirates will move once their PNC Park lease expires.
“But the history!” Yeah, that doesn’t mean anything in today’s world. If Charlotte or Nashville is projected to bring in even a little more $$$, no more baseball in Pittsburgh.
I legit hate this man from the bottom of my heart. He is a swindler to the highest degree. He knows that fans have no other option. It’s not easy to just “stop caring” or “find another team”. He knows the fans will be there no matter what shitty product he puts out there and will still make money.
Until he becomes burdensome to the rest of the league, no one will force this fucking hillbilly doofus out.
Shocking! 😂😂😂😂
I love the pictures of Nutting that they run with these articles. You know they’re trying to make him look as diabolical as possible!
There are just a few people in this world that I know I’ll never meet but I absolutely loathe.

Bob Nutting is one of those people.
