Amazing news. I hope for her sake she has eyes like a hawk – or the bros will have a damn field day. Although I’m sure she knows exactly what she’s getting herself into. Every pioneer lives under a standard that escapes the rest of the boys. LFG, Jen!

As I’ve joked with the NBA and NFL, it’s progress when women get the opportunity to make bad, game-changing calls at the highest stage. That right shouldn’t be exclusive to the Angel Hernandezes and Scott Fosters of the world.
Joking aside, hoping she’s got a good strike zone.
Jen,here’s a tip; you should bring snacks in tupperware for the other umpires, juice boxes, and cloth napkins. And sunscreen.
I wish her all the best, she’s got to be tough as nails to have gotten this far.

That’s awesome. There are at least two female umpires at my local minor league stadium. I’ve seen them both behind the plate and they did a great job.
Baseball fans will handle this with grace and aplomb.

It’s silly but I still get excited for stuff like this. As a kid (and as a young adult) it never even occurred to me that women *could* do things like ref/umpire, call games in a broadcast, etc.
