Miami Dolphins Release SURPRISE Depth Chart Ahead Of NFL Preseason Week 1 vs. Chicago Bears
We officially got the first depth chart of the year. Miami before their preseason game against Chicago this upcoming Sunday released the depth chart for every position group. I’m going to go through my top five takeaways as well as some other minor takeaways on today’s show. I am Nick Rolloff. This is Dolph Today by Chat Sports. But make sure you subscribe and make sure you have your notifications turned on because we are posting two videos every single day. And we go live twice a week nowadays with Tuesday live shows as well as live on game days. Subscribe, turn on notifications so you never miss any content we put out because there is a lot heading your way. And before we get into my takeaways, I do want to make it known that this depth chart is unofficial. It’s just the first one. It’s not like it’s the depth chart heading into week one of the NFL season. So, there is a lot of time for this to change. There are some players on here that are actually injured still. So, that’s another part that is confusing to me, but I just want to make it clear this is not the end all be all right now. It is just a updated look on how it might stand. We don’t know how serious the Dolphins take making this depth chart or not. But we’ll start with my first takeaway, which is the shuffle at the cornerback room. That’s the biggest storyline of this training camp, right? Outside of maybe Quinners’s development and Zach Wilson, it’s where do the corners stand since we lost Jaylen Ramsay, Kater Coo, and Kendall Fuller from a year ago. Well, on the first depth chart, Storm Duck and Kendall Sheffield were listed as the two starting boundary corners. I have consistently said that I believe Jack Jones would be the other corner alongside Storm Duck. Mike Hilton was the top nickel with Cornell Armstrong right behind him. But I do want to make a note that Armstrong has gotten a lot more repetitions at that spot. Maybe it’s because they’re trying to preserve the veteran Mike Hilton. But some quick thoughts here after looking at the official cornerback depth chart, at least right now. Kendall Sheffield being the starter is surprising. Um, he’s had a very strong camp. If you actually look back at the video we put out earlier this week or late last week of Dolphins training camp, winners and losers after the first week of training camp, well, guess who was a winner on that list? It was Kendall Sheffield. He has been very, very good. Now, do I think Jack Jones has been slightly better and because of his experience starting as a boundary corner across the Patriots and Raiders? Would I give him the edge? I would personally, but there is no guarantee the Dolphins see that way. And then there’s one more other major takeaway here. I think it’s pretty telling that Cam Smith is listed on the third line. You go back to that depth chart and text. If we could actually show that one more time real quick. Like you see your starters, you see your second line, and then that third line, well, that’s where Cam Smith is. Like Ethan Bonner’s ahead of him, Jack Jones is ahead of him. Jason Marshall Jr. even technically is slightly ahead of him. This is just really telling. The former second round pick in 2023 simply can’t stay healthy, can’t stay on the football field. And I truly do believe that Cam Smith will be cut. I said it on a video yesterday. I would cut Cam Smith. He is not reliable. And when we have seen him on the football field, he has been very, very bad. So if you can’t stay healthy and even when you are healthy, you stink. Well, you serve no purpose on my roster. And I’ve said this often as well. If Cam Smith was not a former second round pick, he would already be off this roster because his injury history, his play in production, it just isn’t an NFL caliber guy. So Cam, see you later. I think they cut Cam Smith, but let me know your thoughts. Pin comment on today’s show. Do the Dolphins cut Cam Smith? Type Y for yes, type N for no. I’ll be looking to see what your answer is in the comments. Next on the list, Darren Waller was listed as tight and one. And this is what I was referring to just a bit ago about how some injured players were on the depth chart. So, it’s hard to know how serious we actually are with the depth chart being put out, but Waller was listed as tight end one with Julian Hill and Pharaoh Brown in pursuit. Tanner Connor, Hayden Ruchcci, and Chris Merrick round out this depth chart after Jaylen Conurs. The UDFA from Texas Tech was put on IR earlier this week. But I am just so shocked that Waller is listed as tight end one at this point considering that he is still on the pup list and he is still not practiced yet. Now, if you were watching this on Wednesday afternoon, we updated you in the video on Wednesday morning. Another reason why you guys subscribe and turn on notifications. But Darren Waller is projected to return at least to the football field and make his first debut at practice for the Miami Dolphins this upcoming week. Not going to happen this week, but Mike McDaniel expects him back potentially next week before their second preseason game. So hopefully that is the case. But if you’re staying in at the tight end room, I am a little bit stunned that Pharaoh Brown was actually listed as tight end three behind Julian Hill. Based off what I’ve read and seen at Dolphins training camp, I feel like Brown has outplayed Julian Hill pretty consistently to this point in training camp. And I would make the argument that Tanner Connor could have a shot to be ahead of Julian Hill on the depth chart as well. But I will hit this point a couple more times on today’s show as I already have. It is the first unofficial depth chart and we’re just having a couple takeaways. I am not overreacting to the absolute maximum capacity at this point. Next on the depth chart takeaways, we have Chop Robinson, Jaylen Phillips, and Bradley Chub all as starters. And even more interesting is that Jaylen Phillips was listed as an outside linebacker rather than an edge defensive end because we know Jaylen Phillips has played that position his entire career. And I know we’re nitpicking here, but for depth chart standpoints, that does make both three of them starters. Phillips at all outside linebacker and then the two Chop and uh Chub as edge rushers. And we’ll talk a little bit about Tyrell Dodson and the rest of the linebacker situation, but I just did want to show how the Dolphins labeled out their linebacker room. And this goes to the point that we will see them on the football field together. And when I say them, I’m referring to your three best pass rushers in Chop, Chub, and Jaylen. They will play together on certain packages in certain situations this year. When we get to the regular season, it’s third and eight and it’s an obvious passing situation in the middle of the field or just on their own side of the field and it’s clearly going to be a pass. Yeah, why wouldn’t you throw your three best pass rushers out there? And Chop Robinson may develop into a fine edge setter and run stopper this year compared to his rookie season. And if he improves at that level, you can just have those three on the football field together because we know that Bradley Chub and Jaylen Phillips have been pretty solid run stoppers in their own rights. It’s really just Chop that has that question mark. So, we will see those three on the football field together. Now, will it be in a certain situation where one of them lines up over the center or will it be alongside two defensive tackles like a Kenneth Grant and Zack Celler or will it be the three of them and just Caler? There’s so many different formations and packages we can see, but we will see those three together, which will be a ton of fun during the season. What could be a ton of fun as well is grabbing this Dolphins Cutoff hoodie. It’s got that sleek design where it’s you get the orange sleeves and the aqua little base with the Dolphins Miami football um text and logo. It’s a huge sale, too, by the way. Usually 55, cut down to 33, so $22 off. Go to chatsports.com/mia cututoff sale. That link is in the description and comments of today’s video. Grab yours now before sizes run out as well as the sale. Don’t know how long it will continue. Fourth takeaway, we go to the defensive tackle rotation here. And Bonito Jones is actually put ahead of the rookie first round pick Kenneth Grant. This is how the defensive line room is shaping up here. Now, I’m not going to overreact that big, but Jordan Phillips, the fifth round pick out of Maryland, is that defensive lineman four and the seventh round pick, Zeke Biggers, is behind Butler and Dickerson. Dickerson has had some pretty good reps here in training camp to this point. Um, I will remain strong on this point. By the way, I still think Kenneth Grant could easily be bumped up the depth chart. And depth charts don’t really mean anything if we’re gonna be honest. Like they do matter. Like I don’t want to act like maybe saying they don’t mean anything is bad phrasing, but you are still going to see the three of them work in rotation consistently. Bonito Jones a year ago was your stop your top run stopper. Like he was your one tech, your nose tackle. You had Campbell and Caler as your three texts, but Bonito Jones in that major run situations, especially on third and one, third and two goal line. Bonito was lined up over the center every single time. Um, and he was pretty productive as well playing in all 17 games. So, it doesn’t surprise me that much. We know that there will be a lot of players rotating in on this defensive line room. Last takeaway, at least from the main portion of this episode, Ashton Davis still listed as a starter on the Dolphin safety depth chart. It was him and Minka Fitzpatrick with Campbell, Trader Jr., Melanu, and Mc Morris all trailing behind. But the part that is the most intriguing to me is Ashton Davis’s injury. He had a pretty severe injury last week at training camp. Mike McDaniel said it was not season ending, but he will miss time. They did not clarify how much time would be missed, but the fact that he has not been placed on IR further illustrates the point that it is not the end of his season. So, who knows when he could return. Maybe he gets put on the pup list, misses the first six games. Maybe it’s just one of those two IR slots at the beginning of the year where you’re allowed to have two players miss the first four games without being out for the year placed on IR before the regular season starts. And I don’t want to overreact because like I said it is just the first unofficial depth chart. But maybe it’s signifying that he’s not going to miss that much time to start the year. I know that’s aggressive. He probably is placed on IR and misses the first four weeks at bare minimum. But maybe it’s a sign that he’s not going to be out for eight ten weeks and miss the majority of the season. It would be pretty clutch if he could play early on in the season. This safety room has been a major question all off season long. Obviously, you let Jordan Puyer walk. You let uh Javon Holland walk to the New York Giants and you revamped this entire room bringing back Minka Fitzpatrick signing Melfanu and Davidson free agency drafted Dante Trader Jr. but with Campbell a little bit banged up right now Trader Jr.’s banked up and obviously Davis if one of those guys aka Davis the most experienced out of the bunch is ready to roll sooner rather than later that’d be a major boost to that Dolphin safety room. So, I’m going to give you five extra takeaways very briefly here in a second, but I did want to know my top five takeaways you just saw. What was your biggest takeaway from the depth chart? Was it the corner room? Was it the linebackers? Was it the tight ends? Was it something else? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments. Final little small takeaways I wanted to know. Jaylen Wright stole RB2. We showed that graphic um a little bit earlier. I don’t know if we did actually, but I we can show it now real quick. They did have Jaylen Wright as RB2 behind Devon Achan. Alexander Madison was RB3. Ali Gore in RB4 with Alec Engold as your fullback. I was shocked by that because I think Madison’s had the better camp. I get it right. Was here last season, but Madison has been a starter before and has been very good. Quinn Eers, the rookie seventh round pick out of Texas, is still labeled as QB3. That should not be a surprise whatsoever. By the way, if I had to predict what the depth chart would look like, I would have had Quinn Ears as my QB3. Now, have I said that could push Zack Wilson for the QB2 spot? Absolutely. He’s been a pleasant surprise so far through the first two weeks of camp, but yes, he is still QB3. Eas chart. That was interesting. You had your top four. No surprise. Tyreek Jaylen Westbrook Ackini and Malik Washington. D Escridge was wide receiver five. No shock. I’ve had him as wide receiver five all camp long. But I have consistently said that UDFA wide receiver out of Missouri. Theoise Jr. should be wide receiver six. Well, it’s Eric Ezukama with your seventh round pick a year ago, Taj Washington actually being wide receiver seven. So something to monitor there. We’ll see a lot of these guys play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Couple other quick takeaways. no clear starting punter. They listed Jake Bailey or Ryan Stonehouse as the Dolphins punter. I do think it’s going to be Stonehouse due to his relationship with Auckerman. I also don’t think Jake Bailey is that good. And then we did briefly mention it earlier in the video, Tyrell Dodson was labeled as the starting linebacker alongside Jordan Brooks. Anthony Weaver did say to Dolphins media over the last 48 hours that Dodson is still the starter, but on depth chart videos that we’ve shown, I have had Willie Gay Jr. as a starter because if the game was happening tomorrow, I would start Gay considering he has been a top five player in the entire roster during training camp. the way he’s been able to disrupt plays in the run game, get after the quarterback in blitzing situations and cover a little bit as well. I think I would start Willie Gay Jr. today if we needed to win a football game, but Tyrell Dodson is still listed as the starter in the first unofficial departure. All right, that will do it for today’s episode. Appreciate everybody hanging out with us here. And if you’re still watching, make sure you follow me over on Twitter, Nick_rollwolf. I actually tweeted out the first full unofficial depth chart on my profile before making this video. So, if you want updated and coverage more, I guess with urgency because if any news happens, we’ll do it over on Twitter first before coming to make a video. So, you need to go give me a follow right now.

Idk. Noah was never a starter and last year he started for Washington in NFC championship games
YYYYYY! One more thing why haven’t we looked into Kendall Fuller if he’s healthy
Defensive tackle
I would have Jack Jones over Kendall Sheffield and Kenneth Grant over Benito Jones. Other than that, I’m fine with it.

Julian Hill can't catch the ball and can't block. And he gets way to many penalties
I remember you being wrong about chop Robinson. I’m hoping you’re wrong about Darren Waller.
Good Night Phinz Up
They seems to be consistently making the rookies and young guys earn it. I think this is the right way to do it. Our corners look horrendous so my hopes are low 😂
I can’t fing believe duck and Sheffield are our starting corners are you sh**ing me
Yes cut Smith he’s a lost cause

New Culture?? The Dolphins offense is the same Speed Divas with Mr Glass trying to complete a 10 slant. Physical Running, they bring in an obvious run package. Waller and other receiving Tight Ends that can't block put pressure on Ingold and Mr Glass. Physical Running demands gap Blockers that establish the line and that success creates your play action opportunities. Not some Tight End going down Field
