If he’s shit, he won’t be here long. If there’s something that can be figured out, then it’s a nice low risk pick-up. We’re due to have a good one of those again.
Well, he wasn’t good in Boston and doesn’t fit into their playoff aspirations. He still has really good stuff and I think he can turn a new leaf over here.
He was a big part of my dynasty in MLB The Show 22.
Cool
Thank God….missing piece….here come the redbirds tra-la, tra-la!!!!
Could it keep Miles off the mound the rest of the season?
Buckle up. He has a great arm, and can be effective. BUT … sometimes no control. He cost the Twins a few games this year when he came in and ignited fires, but I think he improved some with Boston.
At least he’s not Ryan Fernández
I would welcome the opportunity to acquire a proven power pitcher on waivers. It would be great if he could be like O’Brien.
Pretty sure he is the best player of our lifetimes, just sit back and enjoy.
Its great. This is how you build a long term pen. You take guys with big strikeout upside and hope you can tune them enough to limit the walks. We saw this with O’Brian.
It doesnt hurt to take a swing.
I mean, it’s better than nothing.
Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
Is he related to Rodney Alcala? If not, then we’re good! 😂
Great 4seam, that’s about it. Probably going to tweak his pitch usage and see if the can make him serviceable https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/jorge-alcala-660896?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb
Randomly started throwing a curveball this year. Heatzone either looks like he can locate it well or he hangs it
Didn’t we acquire Romero in a similar way? I’m pretty sure he was a Phillies throw away. Bullpen arms come and go every year.
Who did they drop from the roster to make room?
With the moves this season, I cannot help but think of the scene in Major League where the construction workers are looking at the spring training roster…”Who are these f@%$ing guys?”
Most waiver wire pickups don’t amount to much, and this one may not either. Doesn’t hurt to take a chance on him though. The walk rate is scary, but he’s running a K/9 a tick over 10 in the big leagues this year, and there’s some reason to think that his batted ball luck has been worse than what his stuff has earned. We’re pretty much already out of the race this season, so it costs us pretty much nothing if he doesn’t pan out, but he’s still under team control next year if he finds a little more control and becomes a useful bullpen option.
I kinda figured we would grab a LH reliever off the scrap heap to hold the bullpen together the rest of the year. Not sure why we grabbed another righty?
He’s a warm body with potential upside. Could be a solid contributor if he figures command out, could be gone after the season if he doesn’t.
I read his ERA was in the 6.50 range. Another arm to finish the season, especially bullpen with the 3 relievers we just traded.
Typical low hanging fruit from Mo. Nothing new.
Workin the waiver wire is exactly what we should be doing
Fangraphs has him down as a free agent after this year but Baseball Reference shows he has another year of control. Guessing Fangraphs is wrong and acting weird because of the 2 year contract but he still has an arb year remaining.
Fine to kick the tires to see if he’s worth rolling out next season with his strike out numbers.

Sure why not
We’ll see what happens.

Bullpen depth never hurts
[His 2024 Baseball Savant page tells you why we took a flier on him. ](https://imgur.com/2RG2cHM)
