“I’ve been here five or six games,” O’Hearn said. “To finally do something felt good.”

What he did was hit a game-tying home run leading off the ninth inning against left-hander Kyle Backhus, ending a night of missed opportunities and sparking the Padres to a 3-2 series-clinching victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The left-handed hitter, who started in right field place of Fernando Tatis Jr., who Shildt was giving a day off, was hitless in his first three at-bats Wednesday and was 1-for-12 since joining the Padres before the homer.

“It feels good to contribute and do something,” he said after his first home run of the season against a lefty. “I think you get traded to a new team and you want to instantly contribute and be a part of it. And it took me a few games, but happy to do it tonight. And, you know, kind of capped off a great series for the boys.”

  2. Glad everyone’s made a mark so far. I can imagine that’s a mental hump to get over for everyone post-trade, so now that they’ve all contributed to wins, hopefully they’ll feel confident moving forward and we’ll finally have a team that fully gels.

  3. moving across the country isn’t an easy thing to adjust to. add in that he’s surrounded by new teammates/coaches with the expectation to produce? rough

    he’ll find his groove, and with how our other stars are producing, O’Hearn doesn’t need to carry the team by himself. just show up in the big moments (like last night) until he really heats up

  4. Hell yeah. Him/sheets off the bench. Can afford to give tatis a day off. Ktf has really paid off. Fermin and laureano absolutely killing it too. Then watching miller light up the radar gun is insane. So much hype right now

  7. One could sense the frustration. Like, I’m an everyday All-Star player, in fact the lone All-Star for the Orioles this year, why trade for me to ride pine?!
